Posted: 27 Oct 2018 03:47 AM PDT I had colon cancer 6 years ago have been cancer free since, I have been declined life insurance or quoted extremely high rates. How should I answer the questions when they ask if I have been treated in the last 5 years. My oncologist monitors my blood work twice a year with yearly cat scans. Does insurance look at that as treatment? [link] [comments] |
Insurer wants to total truck for body damage Posted: 26 Oct 2018 02:15 PM PDT My truck was damaged during hurricane Michael and the insurer wants to total it. There is only body damage (granted there's a lot of it) but its mechanically sound. I was hoping to get a settlement for the damage and just keep it as a beater, which is much needed as I gather supplies to rebuild my house and drive around the disaster zone that was once Panama City. Do I have any options here outside of trading the insurer a check for title or keeping the truck and getting nothing? This may be easily googled but I have no house phone or internet and my phone's internet is very limited right now due to hurricane damage. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
How to properly file a claim against my Uninsured Motor Vehicle insurance coverage? Posted: 27 Oct 2018 01:15 AM PDT I got rear-ended a couple of hours ago. Other driver had no insurance, so I called my insurance company. Insurance rep told that I needn't call the police. My insurance company is going to cover repairs, plus rental. My question is how do I go about making a claim for diminished car value on resale, lost wages and lost opportunities and what is a reasonable request? I really don't want a lawyer so I what to research this myself and see if I can just make a reasonable claim that will be done with as little complication as possible. Edit: I found my policy and I pay for: U: Underinsured Motor Vehicle - Bodily Injury 100,000/300,000 U1: Underinsured Motor Vehicle - Property Damage 100,000 [link] [comments] |
Pros and cons of going on my parents car insurance? Posted: 26 Oct 2018 07:58 PM PDT I'm looking into buying a Nissan 370z. I can afford the monthly payments, but the insurance is ridiculous for a 19 year old male when compared to its competitors. I want to convince my parents to let me insure it under their policy so that it will be cheaper, but I need some talking points to convince them. I have a squeaky clean record and the only insurance claim I've ever made was a minor weather related claim that was $700. I'm also an extremely responsible driver. Also, this wouldn't be my first sports car as I am trading in a Dodge Charger RT. My parents are mainly concerned that if I get in an accident and i'm on their plan, that someone can come back on them and sue them instead of me. They are also concerned that I could raise their rates substantially in the event of an accident. Can that actually happen? I live in a no-fault state if that makes any difference. Rear ended by commercial truck Posted: 26 Oct 2018 07:14 PM PDT Hey all, I am the owner of a 14 F150 and recently got into a collision. It was my first accident and I am confused on what I should do. 2 Weeks ago I was rear ended by a commercial delivery truck while I was waiting to make a turn at an intersection. I was hit closer to my rear right and my truck spun about 45 degrees. The driver admitted that the brakes did not work and this was also filed in the police report as well. His front bumper flipped back and sliced his tire but my truck bed pushed into the cab of my truck damaging the bumper, tailgate, and also the cab on my truck. It was drivable but I could hear whistling coming and also there was a vibration that I didn't have before. After I drove off, the owner of the company for the truck called me and asked to settle without insurance and I kindly declined and filed a claim through my insurance later that day. BTW I had full coverage on my Truck with a 500 deductible, through GEICO. Also the other driver was given 2 citations. 1 for the accident and another one for driving w/o valid license. The accident happened on a Friday, and on Monday I took the Truck to a near by GEICO express repair shop they recommended. This shop is also a Ford dealer. I wanted to take it there considering if I get it fixed I want people who know Ford cars to fix it. The KBB for my Truck is about $32K. First, Geico said 11k and 17 days to fix but 5 days later they added another 5k, for a total of 17k to fix the truck. Also the repair date reset to 17 days still. After the accident I told the police I was not injured however later that day I started to feel back pain. My sister has back pain from an accident she was in, but she found out it was due to the accident a while later, so I didnt want to make the same mistake. On monday I went to the doctor as well. It was an expresscare because my pc doctor couldnt arrange an appointment for another week. I was told to go to massage and take some pills for a week. I've been taking the pills but I still have days where my back gives me great discomfort. I will go back this coming monday to the doctor. I've also been to massage once and have another appt tomorrow. So this is basically the back story. Some of my friends suggested I shouldn't have taken my truck to express shop and waited for an adjuster to give me a price first. Also what are some things I may have done wrong that I may be able to fix now or know better for next time, god forbid? Should I find an attorney? One of my main concerns was, I was thinking about trading/selling my truck after this winter. Is the accident going to make it lose too much value? Is there a chance GEICO can buy the car from me because the repair value is more than half the cars value, or maybe the dealer the truck is getting fixed at can? Or what other suggestions would you give? Sorry for the long post, I just have a lot of information coming from all over and dont really know what to do. Thanks and stay safe [link] [comments] |
Chiropractor trying to get me to not use my insurance Posted: 26 Oct 2018 06:30 AM PDT So my wife and I have a high deductable plan ($2,700) and he said we would end up paying out of pocket and he couldn't give us a "discount" if we used the insurance. How I read it is, my insurance will probably pay him like $30 and he wants more money? Could he then make us pay additional direct after the insurance pays him? [link] [comments] |
Losing insurance between jobs while moving to new state Posted: 26 Oct 2018 04:21 PM PDT I'm leaving my job in Illinois on October 31, and will lose my health insurance coverage on that day. My new job in California will offer insurance but I won't start until late November/early December. I'm planning on purchasing a short term plan, but don't know which state to purchase in. I'll be hopping in the car to drive from Illinois to California within a week of October 31st. Let me know if there's any more information I can provide. Thanks in advance for your help! It it better to have term life or whole life Posted: 26 Oct 2018 05:35 PM PDT I am male in my early 40's. I am single with no kids. I have a whole life that is $30,786.00. I pay 41 dollars a month. Do you think $41 is reasonable for whole life insurance or would I pay less if I choose a different company ? [link] [comments] |
Does the ACA's affordability check use AGI/MAGI? Posted: 26 Oct 2018 01:28 PM PDT The ACA does a check on your workplace's insurance to see if it is affordable (9.56% of your monthly income for the cheapest self-only option). Does this check use your gross income, AGI, or MAGI? In other words, if I were to sock away 18k into my 401k would that decrease what ACA considers affordable for me and allow me to gain a subsidy on a marketplace plan? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 26 Oct 2018 01:24 PM PDT If an insurance company won't cover a new ENT surgery because it hasn't been established long-term, will they still recognize the full cost that I pay as going against my annual deductible? Or would it not go towards my deductible because they don't recognize/cover the procedure? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Oct 2018 12:40 AM PDT So ultimately I have a few questions. I'll start by explaining what happened. I was in a roundabout and heading toward my exit going 10-15 mph. The other driver decided to enter the roundabout without yielding to any degree and smashed into my front passenger side by the tire and headlight. She was going roughly 30-40 mph. This is a 2-lane roundabout, I was in the right side lane to take my exit. She was in the right lane from her direction, the left lane was filled with cars that were stopped (waiting for their turn to enter the roundabout as is appropriate), because this was morning rush hour. This happened in Minnesota. I live here as a student, my policy is written back in Wisconsin where I grew up. The other driver's insurance is in Minnesota. 1) It's clear to me, the officer who reported to the scene, and I presume the other driver unless she's in some serious denial that I did not do anything wrong, nor could I have done anything differently to prevent this accident. The other driver is totally at fault here. However, the accident occurred Thursday morning, I called both my insurance and hers, and they are still waiting for her statement before they'll determine liability. She is essentially dodging their calls, which is already putting me in a difficult position with the rental car I needed. My insurance does not cover rental cars, but hers will for me up to 19.35 a day if she is found at fault. Because I needed a car immediately, I already rented one and was told by my insurance I'd have to deal with getting the money back after they determine liability. So regarding this my questions are: Is there any way that they're going to try to claim I was at fault given the situation? From what I've gathered, she is not a very responsible person, and I don't expect her to readily own up to her failure to yield (even though that's exactly what the police report said). Also, what if she doesn't call them back? How long before they give up and call it as is? This is a burden she's placing on me having to deal with rental car costs in the mean time. 2) The appraiser took a look at my vehicle today and found the front end damage is going to add up to ~5200, but completely neglected to look at the back damage. He said I'm already at 70% of the totalled value, and the back damage may bring me over. If it does, how much exactly are they going to give me? If 5200 is 70%, and they would ultimately give me 100%, that's a little under 7500. I've done some research, and it looks like cars exactly like mine with similar or even more mileage in my area are 9000+. Which doesn't really add up to me, so maybe I'm not considering something here. Any insight on this? 3) If my car is totalled, how long are they responsible for covering a rental? [link] [comments] |
How will a claim for hitting a coyote affect my insurance? Posted: 26 Oct 2018 08:15 PM PDT I'm 37F, never had an at-fault accident, had one speeding ticket the court threw out when I was 20. I own a home and my homeowners and auto is through the same company. I live in the Phoenix AZ area. Tonight about a half mile from home I hit and killed a coyote that darted out in front of me. I was goin g the speed limit, killed him instantly :( I live near Tonto National Forest and on a golf course so wildlife are common. This little guy is probably one of the coyotes that poop in my yard and drive my dog nuts. I'm fine, car is drivable but not pretty. From what we can see only plastic parts are damaged but we smelled antifreeze. I have 100/300 coverage and I know I'll have to pay my $500 deductible but what will this do overall to my insurance rates? Is this considered something "at fault" that Will shoot them up? CA-Car Insurance with $0 Deductible on Glass Posted: 26 Oct 2018 11:56 AM PDT Hi All, We moved to CA 1 year ago and unfortunately earlier this week we had two side windows smashed. Fortunately for us, nothing was in the vehicle to steal. We're currently with Progressive and have been for the last 7 years, but they do not offer a plan in CA that has $0 deductible for window replacement. Is this a state wide thing with all carriers or does anyone know of a GOOD car insurance company that can provide this? Current deductible is $500, we have the option to lower the deductible, but not add any small additional cost to our premium to make glass repair deductible $0. We live downtown and I'm just going to assume this will happen again. TIA. [link] [comments] |
How does my current insurance find out about old insurance, multiple times? Posted: 26 Oct 2018 04:06 PM PDT I have not used my parents insurance Kaiser for at least 7 yrs and i am across the country. However back in 2017 i had an issue with Medicare not paying a hospital because they say i have Kaiser. I called Kaiser and sent them a letter, they apparently say i dont have coverage with them. Yet Medicare says i do. Well yet again in 2018 i have another issue except this time its United Healthcare and Kaiser, they are not paying because they claim i have Kaiser. How can i delete my existence from Kaiser so i never have this issue. How are these insurances finding out about Kaiser? This is quite a hassle for me as i already have enough mental health issues. Getting car insurance in Portland as a Canadian student, tips appreciated! Posted: 26 Oct 2018 02:25 PM PDT Hello! Do Oregon laws require me to have car insurance from a Portland/Oregon insurer? If so, what car insurance company do you recommend? Besides comparing different rates they will give me, why would any insurer be better than the other? Thank you in advance! [link] [comments] |
Should I take P&C in Spanish or English? Posted: 26 Oct 2018 02:04 PM PDT Hey guys, pretty excited about taking my Property and Casualty test next week to join an insurance company as a producer. I am originally from Dominican Republic, and have been in the United States for close to a year working in corporate executive positions. This time, I decided to go for an insurance position, and landed accordingly. Even though I speak English in a fluent way, my native language is Spanish. When signing up for my test and making the payment, I see a "Spanish" option on Property and Casualty and figured if I should go for it, since it's easier and learning the basics should be easier (have been studying in English), or having an insurance license in Spanish would be a different license number that will differ from a normal one? Posted: 26 Oct 2018 01:35 PM PDT My heart doctor ordered bloodwork. Most of it was covered, but the "NMR lipoprofile" was not covered by my BC/BS "Blue Essentials" health plan. I called and they said it is considered experimental so they don't cover it. Is there any point in appealing this? Do I just have to pay it? Why does my insurance company have the right to just not cover what my doctor thinks is needed? He's the one who went to medical school, not them! [link] [comments] |
Should I get insurance through my job in the Department of Defense as and Air Traffic Controller. Posted: 26 Oct 2018 10:47 AM PDT Here is my concern. I have to get a physical every year to keep working as an Air Traffic Controller. We have the same rules as pilots as far as that goes. I get a medical condition and I'm out. You cannot work as an Air Traffic Controller if you have just about any medical issues. Even high cholesterol is enough, that's almost cost me once. So what happens if I get cancer or something? I lose my job because I can't work while on chemo. I lose my job, I lose my insurance? Am I understanding that right? Are pre-existing conditions out? Will I be able to get a new insurance? My wife is a nurse and were currently on her insurance. I should be DOD in a few months and were wondering if since this sort of condition exit. Should we just stick with her insurance. Or maybe get both? Am I understanding how this works? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Question About Chiropractor Billing Practices Posted: 26 Oct 2018 10:27 AM PDT Hello. Hopefully I explain this clearly. Basically, SO and I went to a chiropractor that is in our network. We have an MRA and found out afterwards it was around $100/pp but it didn't come out of our own pocket, came out of MRA. When we didn't call back to schedule another appt, the office called and wanted to check in. We told them we felt that $100/pp was a little much and we really only wanted the actual adjustments (popping lol), no fancy machinery involved for massages etc. She said that's understandable, but they can't just do the adjustments because that's only part of the treatment plans they offer. However, if we wanted to come back, they wouldn't go through our insurance. Instead, we could just pay $50 each out of our own pockets if we were trying to avoid using the MRA money. How does this even make sense? I'm so confused and feel like this is shady but I can't explain why. Anyone know what is going on here? EDIT: for clarity [link] [comments] |
Life insurance after a kidney donation Posted: 26 Oct 2018 10:06 AM PDT I'm a 21 year female living in Indiana that will most like be donating a kidney to my significant others father. I don't already have life insurance because I had never thought about it and I'm still insured on my parents health care. When speaking with tha transplant advocate I was informed that after the donation insurance companies will be able to deny me due to having a pre existing condition. Does anyone know any good life insurance plans and what the difference between term life insurance and permanent life insurance is? Any help is greatly appreciated! [link] [comments] |
How accurate are online Auto insurance quotes? Posted: 26 Oct 2018 07:36 AM PDT Curious, I'm in the market for a "new" car and I've been running some quotes on progressive up to the "buy now" option. with "full coverage" I find it weird that I can insure a 1994 Honda Civic for only 40 (220 month) bucks less a month than 2018 GMC Sierra (260 month). That seems way off no matter your driving record (mine is clean but I'm only 27 and only been license for 2 years) I guess I care less about my rate and more about why a car that cover 60K more only has a difference of about 400 bucks every 6 months for a policy [link] [comments] |
My auto insurer is raising my premiums for claim that shouldn't even exist (no actual incident) Posted: 26 Oct 2018 11:09 AM PDT Hey all, hopefully you guys might be able to give me some advice since my insurer has been less than helpful. I was recently notified that my premium would be raising due to "claims activity", however the only recent claim is from what was essentially a misunderstanding. Back in February, my car was illegally towed from in front of my girlfriend's apartment, and it was not reported to the police by the towing company. Naturally, I thought my car had been stolen since the police had no record of it being towed, so I called my insurance company to report it. After calling tow companies for a few hours, I finally tracked my car down and they released it to me. I called the insurance company back once I had it back and explained what had happened, and they assured me that it wouldn't be held against me and that the claim wouldn't go through. I DID receive a call from the actual claims rep two days later, but explained the situation to him as well and received the same assurances in turn. Fast forward to today, and after receiving the notice, I checked my claims history on their website, and sure enough it's there. Naturally enraged, I immediately started looking at other providers in case mine decided not to help, and lo and behold, it shows up in my history for them as well. I've already played the phone game with my insurance company, and I've now been waiting for a day for the original claims rep to call/email me back. So I'm trying to figure out what my options are if they decide to be less than helpful - do I file a complaint with the state insurance department, do I talk to an attorney, or do I just suck it up and say "that's insurance companies for you"? tl;dr - My insurance provider lists a claim that shouldn't even exist, what do I do? Edit - I'm suddenly wondering if there's a possibility that they treated it as an attempted false claim or something like that? [link] [comments] |
