Legal Advice What can I do about my WEIRDO landlord?

What can I do about my WEIRDO landlord?

    Posted: 27 Oct 2018 07:19 AM PDT

Hi! Not planning to take legal action here yet but I lurk on this Reddit sometimes and I am definitely curious about something! Location: USA, Pennsylvania

I just moved into a great new apartment last month. It's a house where the downstairs is my own apartment and the upstairs is the landlord's apartment. One important thing to know is that my kitchen is detached from my other rooms. I have to go through a common hallway to reach my kitchen, but it is MY kitchen. Only problem with the place is that the landlord has been doing some weird stuff that makes me uncomfortable.

I was going to try to skip over the socially weird stuff that he does and keep it to the stuff that I think could be illegal. But he's very creepy. He comes down and knocks on my door often, just to be like "What are you doing today?" This has happened once or twice a week the past few weeks. Once he even called me. He was like "I'm going to a party with some other property owners in the neighborhood, wanted to know if you would like to come too..." which isn't that bad, but when I said no he started pressing me. He got kind of mad, started being like "you know this is really disappointing to me, I thought maybe you'd want to support your new neighborhood etc" I ended up hanging up on him. I don't want to be friends with my landlord. I hate the dynamic and he's also probably the same age as my grandparents.

My apartment has three doors basically. But two of them are nailed shut and can't be used. It's an old house that was converted to be apartments. Last week he came down and knocked on the main door. I didn't want to talk so I didn't answer. So then...he goes down and knocks on the second and third doors really hard, knowing those can't be used. I stayed quiet and just didn't answer. Five minutes later I get an email. "Just knocked on your door to see what you're up to. Thought I heard you down there but I guess not." Which once again, probably not illegal but really weird and really makes me not like him. He also tries to get me to help him with things in his apartment. Like moving things around etc. I won't do it. Not that I'm opposed to helping someone but he just makes me so uncomfortable that I don't feel good going up to his place. He asks several times a week if I can help him with a "favor" or "chore" upstairs. Haven't said yes yet.

So that gives an idea of what he's like. He is really bad at personal space. And so far it's rubbing me the wrong way. But last week he really did something that I feel is illegal. I was having some friends over for dinner in my kitchen. While we were eating he came down and just barged into my kitchen. He stood really close to one of my friends and was like "I heard you having a party down here and wanted to introduce myself to your friends. I don't think I've met them before." And then he did so. All of us were pretty freaked out. We were all sitting at the table and he was standing over us, right over the table, rocking back and forth. Just kind of making small talk. Trying to get to know my friends. He has come to my kitchen doorway before to say hello while he's walking through the hallway but has never come into my kitchen. I eventually got him to leave by just saying "Alright, bye"repeatedly and then I stood up and showed him to the door. My friends left immediately afterwards. One of them was kind of upset and just freaked out about the way he was being. I didn't know what to do. I was so mad. The next day I sent him an email, so that it could be documented in writing. I said basically, what you did last night is not okay. You are never allowed in my apartment without permission. I pay you rent for my place, you respect my privacy, Etc. Made it clear that it pissed me off and I wasn't okay with it. He tried to make me feel bad in his response and didn't really apologize. He was like "well I heard there was company in my house and I wanted to introduce myself. I was just trying to be nice and social" or something like that. Tried to make it seem like he's this innocent lonely old man. Doesn't seem to think that what he did was wrong! I don't buy it. Keep in mind that he's been a landlord for a long time and has had many tenants and has to know how this stuff works. He's a creep.

So what I'm wondering is...if he does something like this again is there legal action I can take? Do landlords have to give a notice before coming into your apartment? I thought that was a thing. The reason I'm worried/wondering is because I haven't lived here but a few weeks and he's already pushed these personal boundaries very aggressively. If he continues down this path of invading my privacy, there's got to be something I can do, right?

[NJ] Not hypothetical question: A lawyer was hired as a defense attorney, subsequently fired, and then returned to work as a plaintiffs attorney? Is this legal?

    Posted: 27 Oct 2018 09:59 AM PDT

My previous post was removed for being hypothetical, however this is not a hypothetical question, and I'm dead serious. I wouldn't post on this sub just to joke around.

A lawyer that one of my family members hired as a defense attorney was subsequently fired, and then returned to work on the same case as a plaintiff's attorney.

Is this ethical, is this actually legal? And how common is this?

Also, just to make things clear, the person in question had submitted a motion to withdraw as defense counsel, which was accepted by the court. However, he nevertheless has re-appeared as a plaintiff's attorney. And is now filing motions on behalf of the plaintiff.

Are there any specific rules of court that this violates? Or is this a situation that is ethically unsound in principle, but not codified anywhere?

My neighbors keep bringing bed bugs into our condo complex

    Posted: 27 Oct 2018 10:48 AM PDT

Sorry I'm advance for any grammatical errors, I'm on mobile...

Edit: For reference I live in the south suburbs of Chicago IL

So I have lived in my condo for about 3 years now, and we've had to be treated for bed bugs three times, and according to our exterminator, it's the same people bringing in the bugs. This morning I wake up and again am greeted with the little itchy red marks on my hands. Once I report this to our association, they are usually pretty prompt on sending out an exterminator to handle it, but that's not my issue here. The exterminator every time has come out on Saturday mornings, (two saturdays in a row: one to check all the units for bugs, and if any are found, the second Saturday to do the treatment, I must be present on the days he is there or I will have to pay out of pocket for the service) meaning I have to take off work, wash ALL of my clothes, and find boarding for my cat while he nukes the place. This is all extremely inconvenient, and I am told by other neighbors that this was happening before I moved in. I guess my question is, can I do anything? My association isn't doing much, considering that my fees are not cheap, I expect more than what is being done.

TL;DR - condominium units I live in have been infested with bed bugs 3 times since I moved in with the same culprits, is there anything I can do?

[UPDATE] Buying a house. Seller's daughter commits fraud to stop it. Succeeds.

    Posted: 26 Oct 2018 08:41 PM PDT

I posted this yesterday. Just in case location bot needs it again; California.

To start, I wanted to clarify a few things that seemed to be misunderstood yesterday. First, all paperwork was signed and notarized as required before the daughter's interjection. The only item left was for the title company to record with the city. Because of the false claims of the daughter, they were hesitant to do this, and wanted seller to appear in person and sign docs again. Second, the seller is of right mind and knows what he is doing; selling one of his houses and moving to Cancun.

After writing up the last post, I spoke with an attorney associated with the broker I used to find the house. The attorney completely sided with me and informed the title company that if paperwork was not processed, there would definitely be a suit filed by them for damages (not sure for what, but happy they said that). He left it up to the title company if they wanted to risk a potential lawsuit by the daughter, or have a guaranteed one from the broker.

After hearing that, I called my lender and they allowed me to extend recording and close of loan until today (at minimal cost to me). Title company delivered documents to the county and as of this morning the house is officially mine. Now on to the real news.

First, the seller was not present or able to be found because of his grandson (the son of his daughter). Apparently, what was supposed to happen was the grandson was to pick seller up from the airport the day of title signing, and take him to the house getting sold. From there he was to meet his REA, and they were going to go to title together. Instead, grandson picked him up and they went to seller's daughters house. From there, they did not allow him to use a phone and he did not have a car with him. They essentially kidnapped the guy, and claimed he was in the hospital, in order to not allow title to happen (which it did anyway).

Both REA's are going to be reporting for elder abuse to the inspector general (?), as well as for forged documents, and whatever else they can think of. I have no idea what crimes were committed here, but I am assuming a few.

Finally, the seller's REA left the family out of the loop on what was going on with title for pretty obvious reasons. He (REA) informed them earlier today after title was recorded and in my name. They refused to leave.

I called county sheriff for trespassing. He showed up and informed me and my REA that they have tenants rights, even though they essentially broke in after the house was titled in my name. They have never lived there, the house is completely empty, and they have no claim to it. I was asked to leave the property.

That is the update for now. I will be filing for a writ of eviction come Monday morning, seeking lawyers for the rent I will be paying until it is resolved/mortgage until I can move in, and pretty much seeking every other way I can think of to ruin their lives.

I currently am in my condo with 20 days left before I need to vacate, and have squatters in my new home. Obviously, I will need to figure out what the hell to do with all of the deliveries and contractor until this is resolved.

I don't know what else to say. I am in shock and dumbfounded.

My boss cuts employees pay after they are fired or quit so their last paycheck is minimum wage. Is this legal?

    Posted: 27 Oct 2018 11:53 AM PDT

He's done this to several employees and insists it's legal but I find it incredibly concerning. I'm worried if I switch jobs my pay will be cut and I'll fall behind on bills as a result. This is in Mississippi if that matters

Can my workman’s comp claim get denied due to the fact HR lost my paperwork?

    Posted: 27 Oct 2018 07:19 AM PDT

    I live in PA.

2 weeks ago, I fell at work falling onto an outstretched hand. BEST case scenario, I majorly overstretches ligaments. However, they're leaning towards I tore some stuff in my wrist.

My doctor has me doing 4 weeks of physical therapy to see if I respond. If not, I'll need to get an MRI and probably an arthroscopic procedure to confirm diagnosis and repair. Recovery time from this procedure is 3-6 months.

I filled out an incident report at work the following day and gave it to my supervisor who saw it with his own eyes. He passed it down the administration. I called my HR person for my claim # and info and she told me she knows nothing about this. I went to go see her and she said my paperwork must've been misplaced and she'd look for it.

Yesterday, my boss calls me saying to call or text him the information because he needed to fill out another report, they lost the initial. I texted him the information so I had records of what I said so there's no discrepancies.

Workman's comp claims for me MUST be filed within 2 days of the injury. I'm now two weeks out because someone lost my stuff. Am I able to be denied coverage due to this? I just seem to be getting the run around with my company and HR person.

Property management keeps changing things/ taking amenities away

    Posted: 27 Oct 2018 07:41 AM PDT

I live in a large apartment complex in PA. My husband and I and our children have lived here since 2016. Up until a few months ago, we have been happy for the most part with the way things run. Beginning this past summer, there has been a complete turnover of office staff and a new property manager. Since then, they refuse to open the community pool, and they did not even inform the tenants here, we were waiting for it to open, and once mid June hit, I asked them what was going on and I was told the pool is permanently closed and was offered no explanation as to why. Most recently, the locks were removed from the building doors and when I asked when they were going to be replaced, the secretary told me that they were removed and that there will no longer be locks on the building doors anymore. I was upset, because that was a main reason why I selected this complex because of the extra layer of security having the building door locked. When I asked why, she refused to answer my question and instead gave me an attitude and told me that's the way it is now. I called corporate, and the lady only returned my call 2 WEEKS later. She was very rude, and simply told me that both the pool and security door locks were decisions made by management and "it's for the best". She said she is aware there have been a lot of changes since the new property manager, and there will continue to be more changes. Our rent went up $50 dollars a month, with our new lease (which we did not sign, the property manager "auto renewed" it a month before our lease ended) despite everything changing, so I asked if they can lower our rent back down to what we were paying, and she laughed at me and said thats not going to happen. I should add that over the summer, one of the maintenance men was charged with burglary for entering a tenants home and stealing thousands of dollars worth of stuff. Again, we were not notified of what happened, they just sent a memo out that he is no longer allowed on the property. I only found out what happened through my job. Is there any recourse, I really don't want to move because we are planning on buying a house, but I don't want to stay here if they are going to keep taking things away and treating us like crap.

(California) the sober living house i am staying at just declared chapter 7 bankruptcy and will be ceasing business on november 19th, what are my rights and what should I do about rent?

    Posted: 27 Oct 2018 10:02 AM PDT

So I have a month to month contract but we were informed yesterday by the trustee that the company will most likely be ceasing business on November 19th.

My rent for November is due on the first. I am currently looking for another place to stay asap but I don't know what to do about the rent until I find a new place.

The sle is a chain of about 40 sober living homes in the SF Bay area and they all appear to be closing November 19.

I was summoned for jury duty and I can't make it.

    Posted: 27 Oct 2018 10:50 AM PDT

I received a jury summons in the mail telling me to report Monday Oct 15th. No problem, I was unemployed at that time. I received an automated phone message the week before my summons date telling me not to go, but rather to call the hotline after 6pm Friday Oct 26th. When I called, the message told me to report at 730am Oct 29th, which is the day I start my new job. So I had to call after 6pm Friday, and I have to be there at 730am Monday, leaving me no opportunity to notify my new employer. The only way to request a delay is by mail, before the date of my summons. Obviously I can't do that, so am I fucked?

Is it possible for my best friend to bequeath his skull to me upon his death?

    Posted: 26 Oct 2018 10:27 PM PDT

A close friend of decades was recently hospitalized for heart concerns. The surgeon suggested the only through his malady was heart bypass surgery. This information was alarming and I realized I would miss him if he were gone. Being the sentimental type I am, I asked in the event of his passing if I could have his skull as a keepsake? He thought about it a bit and agreed that would be just fine.

I know this is possible. I recently had my gall bladder removed and the surgeon shoved it in a jar for me and it now sits at home on a bookshelf.

This is a serious question, yet I have no idea how one would go about this. He is in the state of California and is married. He has not brought this up to his wife, yet I am certain she would abide by his last wishes.

Good news is he had the procedure and is fine. The bad news is he may die in the future and do not know how it is (if it is even) possible to go about this the next go around.

Yes, we have discussed the possibility that I could shuffle off this mortal coil before him and to date he has not expressed an interest in having my skull adorn his keepsake shelf.

Lastly, I don't imagine someone is just going to remove his skull and hand it to me in a patients belonging bag. I suspect it would have to be denuded and fed to critters to clean the skull. Money is not an issue although I don't want to sell my house to pay for the project.

    Anyone? Ideas? Experience?

My girlfriend is being abused by her family and I don't know what to do [EGYPT]

    Posted: 27 Oct 2018 10:31 AM PDT

The guys over at r/egypt told me to post this here so here goes nothing

I am an 18 year old med student My girlfriend.. well, what's left of her She's 17, comes from a very extremely "religious" family، and is in Thanwya Amma (final year of highschool) Her parents figured out we are talking and .. ummm .. things are not going in a good way The first day they knew her brother beat her till she fainted, almost breaking her nose and ribs She has been trapped in her house since then, prevented from going to her lessons, even beaten when she tries to study at home. They want her to fail because they don't plan to send her to college. They want to marry her to someone as soon as the school year ends. She is being called a bitch and a whore and getting abused in various ways everyday The is a MAJOR risk she will be killed as she "brings shame to their name" It's been a month like this and we don't know what to do What does the law allow as to do? Can she escape and not be legally obligated to return home? Can she leave the country on some refugee program? How can I make sure my girl is safe???

PS. she is a very good English speaker, she already relies on herself in everything as her mother does nothing in the house, she took German lessons with me for a while, I can get the money she needs to live on her own if that's an option

Every day that passes leaves a risk I won't ever hear from her again so if someone can help in any way PLEASE do help us

Insane man keeps building deathtrap seesaws in my front yard [FL]

    Posted: 26 Oct 2018 08:04 PM PDT

    Location- florida.

This is like a combination of three or four issues that stemmed from one. I'm not a smart guy and I don't handle stress well and this is really overwhelming for me. Would appreciate it if i could have advice not loaded with legal phrases.

Some months ago I inherited a small house from an old relative who lived in a rural part of florida. have been living there for 4 months and have a big problem thats developed. My relative had a big stretch of front yard that was basically used by kids of neighborhood as a hang out spot to play soccer and things.

I don't hate kids but i get very uncomfortable with so many people near my house always, it scares me. I wanted them to stop coming so I put a sign up telling them to not go on my land anymore. Most kids got it and stopped but several kept coming.

On my land there was a seesaw which was old and crappy and looked super dangerous. not only did I not want kids on my land but was afraid of one hurting themselve on it and suing me. Plus the few kids that keep coming only came for it. I assumed my relative made/bought it and threw it out. Next day had a guy at my house who told me it was it was his, call him K.

K said he made it and thought someone stole it but I explained i took it down myself. He got very angry and demanded compensation (it was five fucking pieces of rotting wood) and I ended up giving him $50 because I was scared but told him to leave me alone and not build stuff on my land.

THE NEXT DAY I woke up in the morning and there was a new seesaw which was even more crappily made. The guy put a note on my door telling me my big yard was "public property" and that I had to give it for use. I got made and broke the seesaw and threw it in the trash.

That afternoon he came back again and told me that if I do it again he's calling police. Told him good luck.

That night I caught him bringing over ANOTHER SEESAW. Didn't confront him, the same pattern repeated with me dismantling it in the morning. Next night same thing more seesaw, and each time they get worse. Last one literally had a few open nails on the underside. That time called the police. Police came.

Basically what ended up happening is the police took his side and told me what I'm 99% is BS. They told me that it wasn't legally my land anymore because my relative had let the kids use it for so long and that the "community" considered it public land. Told me to stop breaking the seesaws and basically called me a piece of shit for not thinking of the kids. he at least let me took the nails off it.

K is a very scary dude, he's like 6'2'' with this crazy hair, dude wears bandages all over his body, crazy look in eyes. I'm also afraid he will do something to me. Don't want to fight with him anymore also. Don't think he has a job.

Most of the kids stopped coming but there is a karate studio dojo thing near my house and a girl from it and her sister or friend come everyday from it and ALL THEY DO is play with the seesaws. I'm pretty sure the karate girl's friend is developmentally disabled based on a small interaction with her and i'm terrified of them getting hurt. Have no idea who the parents are. Asked them nicely not to come but they said they had permission. No idea how to respond.

I'm very low COL and I don't make a lot of cash. Don't see getting an attorney as realistic. No idea what to do if the police don't help. Please help, not good with this stuff and i'm really on the edge of despair with this. thanks.

Verizon sent my account to collections after I suspended service with military orders

    Posted: 27 Oct 2018 07:32 AM PDT

I had my account suspended with military orders and that suspension lasts 3 years. Half way through my tour overseas apparently the account reactivated and they starting billing me without my knowledge and then charged me a cancellation fee of 300 dollars. I didn't pay that because I had no knowledge of what was going on and then they end up sending the account to collections agency. I just came back yesterday and tried to buy a phone which is how I found out. I've never had a credit card or taken a loan so I have never had any credit and when I checked my credit score it's a score of 550 now. I've called Verizon and I've spent hours on the phone with them, all of them agreeing they messed up but none of them have offered me any solid help. Can I sue for negligence or something like that? I've faxed them a copy of my military orders and they said they got it but it wasn't the right department even though it was the fax number they gave me and that they won't send it to the correct office. I have no idea how credit works but now I have to pay a down payment to get a phone and has me worried as I'm going to be renting an apartment next month. I'm worried my rates will skyrocket because of this. Any help would be appreciated.

Electrical contractor damaged my house and wants me to pay them for it [TN]

    Posted: 27 Oct 2018 07:26 AM PDT

My wife and I purchased a home recently, and she decided she wanted some can lights in the family room. We hired an electrical contractor (bigger company, not an individual) to do the work, along with some other jobs around the house. I came in to check the status of work one day, and saw their electrician finishing up cutting a hole in one of my floor joists for the second floor. He said he was having trouble drilling through the joist because it was so hard, and had destroyed 3 extended reach drill bits.

Now the important bit - these are 2x10 floor joists, and he was cutting 4 inch holes in them. Residential building code allows a hole up 1/3 of the total height, centered vertically. Needless to say, I brought in a structural engineer, who declared the second floor shouldn't be walked on (We had painters working up there at the time), and ended up installing some steel reinforcement plates around the new holes.

All in all, it was thousands of dollars out of pocket to pay for the engineer, contractor, etc. The electrical company said they would pay for the repair, but we recently got the bill from the electrical company, and they are still trying to charge us the labor to install the can lights (the part of the job they screwed up). I'm willing to pay for the materials, but not labor costs.

In this type situation, is it better to pay and then take them to small claims, or to keep fighting it, even when they say they're going to start adding a fee on every month? I'm afraid if I go the small claims route, then by paying, I'm effectively agreeing that the charges are valid. Advice?

My girlfriend's (F17) stalker (M18-20 not really sure) just got his record expunged, are there any steps we can take to keep her safe?

    Posted: 27 Oct 2018 10:36 AM PDT

On a throwaway account to protect her identity.

A few years ago, before I met her, my girlfriend went from home-school to public-school and was talking to everyone at school excited about being people's friend. One of the guys she talked to started showing up at lots of different places she went after they had exchanged phone numbers. He also texted her a lot. She asked him to stop these things and he didn't. She went to the school counselor who didn't do anything in the year she kept talking to him (counselor) because of stalker's mental disability. Eventually she went to the police and a restraining order was placed because of the harassment through text.

Recently she got a voicemail that she didn't hear until a few days afterwards that there was a hearing to get his record expunged the day after she initially got the voicemail. He's texted her twice since then and we're all scared for her safety. In one of the texts he talked about wanting nothing but her happiness but also said he is not afraid to go to jail.

Additionally she will be 18 in December and we live in Oregon.

    How do we protect her?

[FL] MIL receiving privileged health information about both of us and our daughters

    Posted: 26 Oct 2018 10:32 PM PDT

So me and my wife recently adopted twin girls.

We've also run into some medical issues, both minor and serious.

Anyways I got a call from MIL who was yelling at me for pumping her daughter (who she hasn't seen or talked to in three years, she even refused to come to the wedding) full of cancer causing drugs and that she was going to sue on wife's behalf.

Along with that she also had results from our daughters' OBGYN and called me a paedophile and pervert for taking them to an OBGYN so young (they're 13)

Anyways I was wondering is there any legal recourse we could take against the doctor's office/practice for sharing privileged information and against MIL for slander/harassment?

Home Depot stole my refridgerator and refuses to take responsibility for it.

    Posted: 26 Oct 2018 07:25 PM PDT

I've spent about 6 hours on the phone trying to get this resolved and haven't gotten anywhere with it so I'm asking this sub for advice.

I ordered a refridgerator from Home Depot to be delivered to a rental property I own. The existing fridge still worked and I could use an extra fridge where I live so the day before the new fridge was delivered I took the old fridge outside so that there was space for the new one and I could just pick up the old fridge the after the delivery. On the order page there was an option to have the old refrigerator removed for $20. I did not choose this option. I verified that my credit card was charged for the fridge without the extra $20 removal fee.

The day after the new fridge was delivered I went back to the property to pick up the old one and it wasn't there. I asked my tennant what happened and she said the delivery guys took it. She said she told them not to but they insisted that they spoke with me and that I told them to take it. That never happened.

I called the Home Depot appliance hotline and they said they would ask the delivery company what they did with the fridge and to call back next week to check on it. I called the next week and they said the fridge was scrapped. I said, "I think you owe me a new fridge then" and the lady laughed and said "We don't just give people new refrigerators." They said that it was the local stores fault because they were the ones who fulfilled the order and suggested I call them. I called the local store and was told that it was homedepot.com's fault for telling them to tell the delivery company to haul it away. I called homedepot.com and they said their appliance department needs to ha does this and transferred me to a supervisor from GE appliances. She told me that she can't give me compensation or a new fridge and all she can do is submit a complaint for me and she told me three times that it doesn't guarantee they will contact me. I haven't heard anything since.

What do I do? File a police report for a stolen fridge?

    Dogs attacked by neighbors bees

    Posted: 26 Oct 2018 07:44 PM PDT

A few hours ago my wife and I arrived home to find one of our dogs dead in the back yard and our second dog barely hanging on. She is now at the vet emergency room in critical condition. All over our yard we found dead bees and the dogs covered in stingers. The first vet we were able to get to removed over 100 stingers from the second dog which she said was only maybe half of them. The first vet got our dog stable enough to get her transferred to a vet hospital.

Our neighbors have a honey bee hive that they collect honey from (we live in Arizona) and have been re-queening. My wife has been stung before and we mentioned to our neighbors that there had been a lot of bees in our yard lately but they told us the bees were probably collecting honey. We live in a suburban neighborhood with most lots around .5 acres or less. I feel they should be liable but have no clue what I should do. The only thing we have done so far is rush to the vet to try and save the dog that is still alive.

Edit: Reggie (short for Regina and the dog we were able to take to the vet) is staying over night at the pet hospital. She is in stable condition for now but not out of the woods yet.

The mother of my boyfriends child neglects their daughter

    Posted: 27 Oct 2018 09:01 AM PDT

This is in New York State.

My boyfriend has a daughter who is two years old. She lives with her mother 4 days and stays with my boyfriend; who lives with his mom and stepfather, for the other 3 days. They never went to court for child support, or custody, etc.

I've noticed when the baby comes over, she's dirty. I'm not talking about messy, full on stink. She reeks. She came over yesterday to stay until Monday, and her hair was so knotted and unwashed we thought the mom put hair ties in her hair. Her clothing was dirty, and covered in stains. The shirt she came in was ripped and her shoes were too small. She had crust under her neck and in between her fingers and toes- it's honestly disgusting and triggering bc I grew up with a negligent mother as well. Also, every time she comes over her genitals are red and inflamed. She never touches it or complains and itches, but it is always clearly irritated. Oh, and she always comes over with a diaper that smells like death and was probably on her for a few days.

She also had these weird spots showing up one by one on her body. One on her leg, one on each foot, one on her arm, etc. They honestly look like someone put out there cigarette on her. The mother had an older child, a son about 6 or 7, who is COVERED, head to toe with those marks.

I don't know where to start, I'm so worried for her, and ever her brother. Every time someone goes to pick the baby up, the mom is laying down, the house is disgusting, but she has her nails done, etc. She also refuses to work.

Where can we start with this? Should we take photos and write dates with incidents? Should I call CPS and leave an anonymous tip when we drop the baby back off? It honestly hurts me so bad every time we send her back to her moms place and I'm worried something more is happening that I'm not seeing.

    Thank you

    Neighbor blocking my driveway willfully

    Posted: 27 Oct 2018 03:14 AM PDT

(San Francisco) I was hosting a party starting around 7:00pm PST. My first guests arrived around 7:15pm, and I went out to meet them, as I was bringing them in, someone parked in front of my driveway (blocking my vehicle from exiting my very narrow 2 car garage). I asked him politely (witnesses) to not block my drive and to perhaps park somewhere else. His response was a litany of slurs ending in "im not fucking moving, and if I get towed, i know where to look first." How do I handle this situation legally and respectfully?

I put my uncles' company on my resumé and my new job wants a W2 or paystub from it.

    Posted: 27 Oct 2018 06:50 AM PDT

So over the years I've occasionally done some work for my uncles' company (maybe 5-6 hours a year) and they take me out to dinner or buy me that thing I've been wanting, etc when I go see them. So I put it on my resumé as something like "May 2011-Present". Now, my new company that I'm supposed to start at on Monday wants to know why I forgot to put it on my background check form and wants either a W2 or paystubs. What do I do? Can I just say "Hey, it's my uncles' company and don't do a lot for them and they just pay me cash"? Is that a bad idea? My uncle said he'd be willing to make me a paystub, but that seems kinda illegal. I'm in US-NY (as is the new company) and they're in US-FL if that's important.

Edit: So to be perfectly honest it's more like 5-6 hours a year, and they give me like $100, as they've been doing every year since I was a kid. I suppose I could chalk up the money to just gifts and I have been working without pay. I was just thinking if it's something on my resumé I should tell my new employer they paid me. It sounds like that's not a good idea.

[WA] Seattle apartment- we pay for a unit with washer and dryer but the washer has been broken for 15 days. When can we bring in our own repair person?

    Posted: 27 Oct 2018 12:03 PM PDT

We've submitted maintenance requests and each time someone comes out to 'fix' it, the next time we run a load it floods again. Worried about the damage it must be causing to the floor and carpet when it floods bad enough to leave the bathroom and saturate the hallway carpet.

How long do they have to actually fix this? When can we hire our own repair person and have the cost deducted from our rent? Or at the very least, have our rent for the month subsidized to the price of a unit without washer and dryer?

    Flight cancelled

    Posted: 27 Oct 2018 07:27 AM PDT

Cuurently in Spain;Canary Islands;Tenerife trying to fly back to my home in Latvia;Riga

Flying from Temerfie South airport to Riga airport

So, my family and I decided that as every year we go on a one week trip in the Canary Islands, and everything was perfect the weather the flight there etc.

But yesterday was the day my family and I should have flown back the flight was expected to be at 17:00 but was delayed to be at 19:00 and we were at the airport checked in and ready to fly back home, but they didn't let anyone on the plane for about 2 more hours without giving any information why they didn't let anyone on the plane, and after 2 hours of waiting at around 22:00 they were saying that the emergency lights were broken and that the plane can't carry any passengers because of safety reasons so we waited til the baggage claim, claimed our bags and were in the main hall to get some more info about what happened and when will the next plane come...

After even more time at around midnight, we finally get some information that the next flight would be after around 12 hours.

And here is the interesting part, a relative that was with us on the trip has some inside info that when some people went and also recorded how he went to the dispatchers to see what is happening, that no one was there and that they were hiding, and when he got that footage he went back where some people from the company (smartlinx) were forcing the man to delete the footage and it got to the point were even the police got involved and detained the person who took the footage.

So we stayed the night with a relative who lives here and when we came back to the airport at 10:00 in the morning where we did the same thing we handed our baggage to be put on the plane when again the flight was expected to depart at 12:00 but was delayed till 15:00 and only now we get some kind of information that some kind of machinery is broken and that the plane can't fly any passengers and that the next flight is tomorrow at 10:00 in the morning.

Ps when I asked the people that are working here in the South Tenerife airport they said that it is the same problem as in the first day and that they are waiting from the destination's airport for directions what to do.. but it doesn't make sense that one day that is broken and the other day something else it like they are trying to cover something up with all that has happened (the forcing of deletion of footage ; hiding of evidence ; almost no compensation) it just doesn't make any sense...

Soo what should i do? Report it to the police, or should i just keep quiet and hope that my family and I get home tomorrow?

Update #1) We recieved some info and it is believed that we will board after 40 min (16:41 GMT +1)
