(update) My autistic brother was banned from the local hobby shop. Posted: 04 Oct 2018 10:48 AM PDT So I want to start out by saying that I was wrong and I want to apologize to anyone I may have hurt with my last question. It was wrong of me to defend my brothers actions and I wish I could have seen that at the time but thats the past. I went to my parents and talked to them and they have begun to see that they were wrong too. Me and my dad went last night and apologized to the shop owner for our actions and how we treated him and the victim of my brother and that we agree with his ban. The owner was genuinely happy with us for this so i'm glad we did that. The girl who who my brother touched was also at the store and despite what many of you said I felt that I needed to apologize to her too because she deserved it after my actions and she thanked me for it. My parents are now looking into different options to deal with my brother including therapy and other programs. I really want to end this by saying thank you for helping me learn I was wrong. Like I said I'm sorry if i hurt anyone with my post, I didn't mean to do that but it was wrong of me too. This has been a learning experience for me and I hope that I can become a better person because of it. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Oct 2018 12:48 AM PDT I live in South Carolina and I work in the restaurant industry and my bosses are well aware that I have epilepsy and that I need to take my anti-seizure medication at very specific times in the day. Recently, they decided to start locking all out belongings in a closest and without a manager to unlock it I am unable to reach it. There is one particular manager who I usually work with who doesn't seem to understand how serious this can be. She always seems irritated when I ask and takes her time to finally allow me access to it. So, after days of taking my medication hours after I needed it I finally had a seizure at work. I was wondering if this is worth talking to an attorney or if there is anything at all I could do about this. I told them locking up my medication could potentially lead to this if I wasn't able to access it. I haven't had a seizure in about 5-6 months since adjusting to my medication until all this happened. I've watched her take smoke breaks, scroll on her phone, etc. Just not sure how to handle this situation. [link] [comments] |
Pharmacy refuses to fill my Suboxone prescription. Terrified of relapse. Posted: 04 Oct 2018 01:49 AM PDT So my main issue is I live in a shitty little podunk piece of shit town and there's only a single pharmacy here. My battle with Heroin and prescription pain killers is long and storied. I overdosed 6 months ago and the hospital put me in an in-patient treatment program. I came out of there with a Suboxone script and my primary care doctor has kept me on an tapering dose ever since. Thanks to the Suboxone, I've managed to clean my life up a little bit. I've got a job that's keeping me off the streets and I'm saving money for a car. Everything was fine until last month when I got my script back with huge question marks penned on the paperwork by the pharmacist. I asked what the problem was and he told me my dosage is too high, it was the last time he was going to fill it and that I should call my doctor. I followed his advice and called my doc, who told me not to worry about it because she was going to reach out to the pharmacist. Well I went back yesterday to get my refill and the pharmacy followed through on their threat and refused to fill it. I called my doctor and she said she talked to the pharmacist, who has apparently recently replaced the old pharmacist here and is refusing to fill it at any dosage. The doc suggested I go one town over and have it filled. The thing is, I can't. There's no public transportation here. I have no car or support network and I barely make enough money to eat and put a roof over my head much less drive away from here. I thought I could get through this but As I type , my withdraw symptoms are starting to kick my ass. I'm afraid I might not even be able to last until morning when salvation is only a phone call away. I've worked so hard to get this far. I can't believe a pharmacist is just allowed to flat out tell my doctor to go fuck herself. Is there any hope for me? Is there some sort of regulatory body I can complain to in order to get the pharmacist to comply with my doctor's orders? EDIT: GOOD NEWS! The Hospital is willing to fill the prescription. I can't get a ride though. I tried 211 and they put me in touch with a bunch of people who give rides to doctors appointments and stuff like that and they're all booked up for several weeks in advance. So I'll be making the long walk today. I think I can handle 6 hours of walking once a month. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Oct 2018 08:55 AM PDT (Not sure what flair to use) TL;DR Told my parents I was trans and pushed me into the closet. came out again to a friend at work who bought a bra for me. My mom now is locking me out of the house so I can't get in after school. She now seeks emancipation, I do not know my dads stance on this. I think she also may have abused me as a child. I don't know what to do. Today I woke up and forgot I had my bra on. She noticed it and was pretty mad that I lied to her about being fine, and that I was doing well on this issue. It's all blurry as to what happened next. I went into auto pilot and went to school. After I arrive at school we have a quick chat where she informs me the house will be locked when I get home. I tell her that that is illegal and she doesn't care. In her words she says "call the cops", and I inform her I'll also call DHS. She proceeds to say "go for it" and "They'll put you in foster care". I then inform her that she may lose custody of my brother, and will likely do time" She then stays "You forget who your pap is". (Now a quick TL;DR about my Grandfather. He is a well known figure and wealthier than us from running a gas station. He is also extremely transphobic. He also has invested in college funds for me, which would greatly help me out for college.) I tell her that we could have a far more reasonable approach and that this is a violation of human rights. She then states that "there is no reasoning with me" and that "she is done with the bs" she also states that my brother would stay with my dad should she go to jail. I then tell her that my brother's life will be ruined", and she retorts with "It'll be ruined if you stay" (My father is a good parent, however I don't want my brother's life to be ruined.) (Now before we continue there were spikes were I informed her the Dysphoria was not going away and I stated If I couldn't transition I might as well seek emancipation.) My mother than states "If you want to be an adult and think you can take care of it yourself than it is time, hopefully you'll learn from it and grow the fuck up. I'm not BSing u/LogicOfReality, I've had my limit I'm done. Have your friend from work take you in and feed you and you can use there own electricity and water. Once your emancipated you will no longer have insurance either. Already calling a lawyer." (I'd post our messages to have evidence for our conversation, but I'm not sure if that's allowed.) I also believe that she may have abused me as a child, and will also bring that up in court. I remember roughly 3 times were it is definite. 1. I do not remember how it started, but my back of my head was slammed into a dresser multiple times before she stopped and realized what she did. 2. One time as a child I was put to eat Ice cream with a child hood friend, they gave me vanilla instead of swirl and the parent there threw it away, because I didn't want it. After my kid brain realized I would get no ice cream I ran around the parking lot and hid. She was called to take my home and I was whipped multiple with a belt multiple times. 3. When I was 6 I was playing with neighborhood kids and they started beating me with lightsabers. I went to crying they were hurting me. I got a response along the "lines of fight your own battles" my brain assumed that as going back and fighting back. This happened about three times over until I cried myself to sleep that night. I have no idea what to do as I cannot go home and have no where. I do not have my own bank account and use a conjoined one. [link] [comments] |
Oil Change Technicians left “love stains” in the backseat of my car Posted: 04 Oct 2018 09:02 AM PDT Hi legaladvice, this is my first post so please bear with me. As the title states, I got an oil change yesterday and everything was fine until today I was getting something out of my backseat and noticed fresh white stains. The receipt it states that company is not responsible for any damage inside of the car during the oil change, so I think this is how they think they can get away with this. I can contact management, but I have a feeling theyll just use that receipt as a defense, so i dont really know what else to do. I dont need any financial compensation for this, I just want to make sure those involved are held accountable. [link] [comments] |

Schools Closing Bathrooms and Leaving BR Doors Open Posted: 04 Oct 2018 04:47 AM PDT Recently, my high school has been cracking down on people vaping in the bathroom. Their method has been to 1) Close the boys bathroom near most of the classrooms (just lock it) and 2) Leave the boys bathroom door open in the only open boys bathroom (on the other side of the school). There is no wall that you have to go around to see into the bathroom, rather you have a perfect view of the sinks and almost the urinals from the outside. Is there any legal threat I can bring to the school? Is what their doing illegal? I don't vape, but I find it a huge violation of privacy, and a huge inconvenience that boys have to walk to the other wing just to use the bathroom. [link] [comments] |
Can we have a verbally abusive Hospital Tech kept away from our son? (Pennsylvania) Posted: 04 Oct 2018 11:53 AM PDT My fifteen year old son has autism, and severe depression/anxiety. He was hospitalized last week after his anxiety got out of control at school and he engaged in some self-harm. He's fine physically and is actually doing well in the hospital. Right now they're just waiting to see how he is handling the medication increases and changes, and it looks like he'll be home early next week. The staff seems great for the most part, and his therapist in particular has been fantastic. But there's been one staffer who has been anything but, and I'm concerned about his further interactions with her. This person is a tech, not a nurse, and the following occurred on a Sunday (the day after his admission) when the weekly staff is not there. Patients get one phone call/day, and while he was talking to his mother he started crying. There's a lot of reasons for this, beyond the obvious one of being a teenager in a mental hospital who really missed being home: he hadn't received his second dosage of his anti-anxiety meds, he was getting a lot of teasing by older/bigger kids, and on an social/emotional level he's functionally about eight years old even though on a physical and intellectual level he's fifteen. The tech cut the call short, about three minutes in, telling him that if he was going to cry he had to hang up. This part, my wife clearly heard. What follows we know only from my son's account, but in our experience he's a reliable witness and a terrible liar. He continued crying after he was forced to hang up, and she told him to "Shut up." He then began punching himself in the head, as he often does when he's blaming himself over getting in trouble, and her response was to tell him to "...hit yourself harder." We called the next day and we were told that there is no policy forbidding kids to cry when they're on the phone. If they're upsetting another patient, something might be said, but our son was alone with the tech when this happened. When we spoke to him later that day and got the rest of the story, we called back and spoke to a supervisor who seemed to be taking this accusation very seriously indeed. We were told that the hospital's director was going to get involved, and that we would be kept informed. Three days later, we've heard nothing on this front. While I am fairly confident that the situation will be addressed, I want to be damned sure that he's not going to have to deal with this woman over the weekend. Someone who would treat an emotionally disturbed child like that has no business working with such kids in the first place, and I am frankly concerned that she might be prove to be vindictive as well. He's there to heal, and he flat-out told me that he's very scared of this woman. What is the hospital obliged to tell us? And do we have the legal right to demand that this woman is NOT to work with him? It's probably needless to ask for this, as I suspect that they'll be separating them of their own accord, but the lack of updates makes me nervous and when I call tomorrow I want to actually know what our rights are. It's hard not to be paranoid under the circumstances, particular when we're several hours away and can only speak to him for a brief period in the evenings. On a related note, do they need to tell us how or if this situation is resolved internally? She's working with a lot of high risk kids, most of them in worse shape than my son, and has the potential to do a lot of damage. [link] [comments] |
Didn’t get s job because I wouldn’t take my pants off Posted: 03 Oct 2018 03:01 PM PDT Update: I'm currently in talks with a lawyer, and finding out the board of directors. Thank you for your advice and words. I'm taking this very seriously and want to do things the best possible way, to not only stand up for myself, but for any other applicants or, god forbid, the kids in this program. Today I had a follow-up interview for a case manager position with a non-profit at-risk teen center. I met with the Director. When discussing how I can empathize with some of the kids I mentioned my own abuse, cutting issues, etc. my intent being that I have been in some of their shoes and I can be a safe haven for them to come to with their problems. The director asked to see my cutting scars, and I laughed it off telling him that they are hidden on my upper thigh. He insisted in seeing them, stating that he "needs to see that I can relate to the kids". I kept telling him no, I wasn't going to take my pants off to show him my scars. Mainly because it is a personal question and also...because I'm not taking my pants off to get a job. He said that he "was grown, and you're grown, just stand in the corner and show me" He started getting more confrontational about the issue, I offered up showing him the light scars left on my arm, but he insisted in seeing my legs. He went on to say "I have 3 other people interested in the position, now is your chance" and I declined again. Once it was clear to him I wasn't going to do as he asked, he asked if I had anymore questions, and promptly ended the interview. My question is what are my options in either confronting him or airing this out publicly. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Oct 2018 05:04 PM PDT This is not the advertisement in question because I'm way too embarrassed to show my face, but it's something similar to these tasteless ads you find on adult sites (NSFW): https://i.imgur.com/1P2CRQ2.jpg My photo was never submitted to any kind of public database, it was taken off of my Facebook page. Could someone have done this as a prank or for revenge? I am talking to a lawyer and trying to build a case against MindGeek, who hosts both PornHub and their ad service, Trafficjunky. Is this the right way to go about this? Do I have a case? How do I get in touch with the USA branch of MindGeek to get them to remove my picture from this disgusting, trashy, ad? [link] [comments] |
[CANADA] My girlfriends best friend is accusing me of raping her. Posted: 04 Oct 2018 02:25 AM PDT I live in Ontario, Canada. My girlfriend (20) and I (23) have been dating for a little over a year. Her best friend (21) has been her best friend for about 5 years. The three of us are very close. A few days ago my girlfriend and I got into a pretty bad argument and she broke up with me. My girlfriend deals with a lot of anxiety and depression and she has a lot of trauma from her past. Her best friend is the only person I knew I could talk to as she would understand the situation best. I checked her story on snapchat and saw that she was at a hotel nearby so I called her and asked if I could come talk to her and it was really important. She lives with her parents and they dont allow her to have friends over so it was convenient that she had a hotel room we could meet at. I called her and asked her if I could come by and she said sure so I got there an hour later. I told her how my girlfriend was really upset after an argument and told me that she wanted to leave me. I told her that I still love her but I dont know what to do. She told me not to worry and that if I give it some time she'll eventually come around. We ended up having sex. We we're both sitting on the bed and it was stupid but we did it. This isn't why I'm asking for help, it's everything that happened next. After we did it I felt really bad and she could tell. She asked if I was okay and I told her that I have to go. She asked me if I could give her a ride back home but I told her I can't because I need to be alone and think. She told me that she would call me the next day and we could talk. We both said goodnight and I left. About an hour later my girlfriend calls me to ask me why her best friend is asking her if we broke up. It turns out that after I left the hotel room the best friend called my girlfriend to ask her if she and I had broken up, when my girlfriend told her that she had no real intention of leaving me and she only said she was leaving because she was angry, the best friend told her that I raped her. My girlfriend called me crying asking me why I did what I did. I talked to me girlfriend and explained everything to her, how I went to the hotel room and that we both had consensual sex. Apparently the best friend told my girlfriend that I raped her, and that I didnt allow her to leave the hotel room and I forced her to have sex with me. I feel like she did this to gain sympathy from my girlfriend because she knows that it was wrong for her to sleep with her best friends boyfriend. I know what I did was wrong, but what she is accusing me of could ruin my life. My girlfriend has been raped when she was younger, and I helped her recover from it, never in my life would I ever force anyone to do anything they were uncomfortable with. At this moment my girlfriend is terrified because shes scared that I might go to jail. Or that people will believe the rumours about me. The best friend is now terrorizing my girlfriend, telling her that she deserves to burn in hell, she has told all her friends that I raped her and my girlfriend has already lost friends over this. I cant sleep at night, I'm worried about my family hearing about this, I could lose my job. I know what I did was wrong, and that's something only my girlfriend can forgive me for, but I did not rape her best friend. I dont know what to do. I dont know who to turn to for help. The best friend told my girlfriend that she is going to go to the police and I'm worried that this could ruin my life, as well as my girlfriend's. The best friend has a history of acting out like this, she has accused her ex-boyfriend of rape, she's admitted to having rape fantasies, she's always looking for attention. What can I do? Is there even anything I can do? tl;dr: I had consensual sex with my girlfriends best friend after my girlfriend broke up with me after an argument. When the best friend talked to my girlfriend and learned that my girlfriend didnt plan on leaving me for good, she told my girlfriend that I raped her in order to gain sympathy. She is now threatening to go to the police. [link] [comments] |
(ND) My employer provides housing. Am I a tenant or not and what rights do I have? Posted: 04 Oct 2018 05:59 AM PDT I work for a hotel chain in ND. Part of working there is having a private room at the hotel to live in. This is offered to all employees as a perk and does not effect salary. It's important to note that there is no lease or any kind of paperwork regarding employees staying for free. Not even anything regarding moving out upon quitting. It's just something they've always done and several employees live on site. I chose to stay at the hotel and it is my permanent residence where I live, get mail, etc. I do not have another residence. Recently my employer has decided to start doing "employee room checks". They come in and check to see if the room is trashed, basically. I found out they've gone into my room without notice when I was not there. I found this out because the office manager mentioned to me I needed to remove an extra laundry basket I had. I was not happy and told them as much. I was told "It's Sarah's hotel and she can do what she wants." They've now posted a notice saying there will be weekly room checks for all employees, but no telling what day or time. I was told last night at 11 that there will be room checks this morning at 11am. Less than 12 hours notice. Weekly room checks seem really excessive. We're an extended stay and don't even go into the guests rooms on a weekly basis. If they decline housekeeping, we never go in. My question is: am I a tenant and if so, what rights do I have to privacy? Is my employer really allowed to enter when I'm not present with little to no notice? [link] [comments] |
An older guy has been showing his coworkers inappropriate pictures of me Posted: 04 Oct 2018 01:24 AM PDT [California, US]He was 39 and I had just turned 18. Everything we did and every picture or video taken was consensual and I take full responsibility for my irresponsible as fuck actions. But that lasted less than a month, and now that I'm with someone else he texted me out of the blue asking me if I still had any pictures that I hadn't sent him. I basically told him it's creepy to ask that when I'm dating someone else. A couple weeks later I hear from a close friend that he had showed a coworker one of the pictures, after promising when we broke up that he "wouldn't do anything mean with the pictures". I'm not even sure if there's anything I can legally do here? It was completely my choice to let him record me, and I assume they would technically be his property now? I have no idea. I made this mistake and I have to live with it, I'm just wondering if there's anything at all I could at least threaten him with? [link] [comments] |
My daughter can’t visit. Owner said we’ll be kicked out if she does. Posted: 04 Oct 2018 11:03 AM PDT So the apartment we live in is in my husband's brother's name. He filled out the paperwork to have the apartment put in my husband's name and my name. The owner waited two weeks and finally told us that he wasn't going to allow that because I have a 4 year old daughter and he doesn't want to "deal with that". Now he's saying if she comes over even just to visit, he'll evict my husband from the apartment. The owner is literally tearing my family apart. I hardly see my husband now and my daughter doesn't get to see him either. Is there anything that I can do legally? I mean the renter has visitor rights, right? Any advise would be so greatly appreciated! I live in Texas btw. I'm not worried about putting the lease in our name because we are planning on finding a new place. I'm just wondering if the LL has the right to evict my husband just for my daughter visiting. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Oct 2018 02:52 AM PDT Okay so first things first, i have not been fired and it wasn't a formal warning (Verbal warning only now, unclear if formal is coming) so lets get that out of the way, at the moment i am confident it won't get out of hand but i'm just wondering what cards they hold in their hands right now. I am a casual hospitality worker in a non-unionised workplace in Australia. Going to try and make this TL;DR as possible. There was a discrepancy with my pay rates, i wasn't sure if i had made a mistake so i contacted a co-worker of mine to check as i didn't want to wrongfully accuse my manager of anything. The most frustrating thing as it was just a small mistake on their part and they have already rectified it. The co-worker is older, more qualified than me and has been working there for over 24 months. In her rage she contacted my manager name dropping me and all, saying we 'were just casually talking about our pay rates', this makes it sound so much worse than what actually happened and I've already come clean to my managers in person about how she came to finding out my rate. As she has worked there a substantial amount of time, she is demanding they back pay her (Which i would say would be around the 2-4k mark). My manager obviously was annoyed and said that i broke my confidentiality agreement, which was apparently in an induction handbook i remember signing when i commenced work. I am unsure what was in that booklet in regards to confidentiality, but as a casual worker it worries me about what rights i actually have. Like i said, I'm hopeful that it won't go down any path like that, and the both of us have a great relationship with our manager away from work, but just wondering what consequences they can legally impose on me for this. Cheers in advance for any and all help. Edit: Warning specification. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Oct 2018 10:36 AM PDT My son started to record the bus driver when she got into kids faces and yelled at them for complaining after she slammed on her brakes and sent kids flying into the seats on front of them. When she found out he was recording, she made him stay on the bus until he deleted all pics/vids. She wrote him up claiming it was unauthorized recording and cited "Privacy Act". I read the transportation policy and there is no mentions of recording not being allowed. Can anyone, including law enforcement force you to delete things off of your personal device? Posted: 03 Oct 2018 06:12 PM PDT A few months back, end of July, my father felt something pop in his chest and was in excruciating pain so he decided to go to the ER. My father has always had a history of high cholesterol and very high blood pressure, so with the amount of pain he was in he was sure he was having a heart attack. When he arrived at the ER, he told the people who Check you in how much pain he was in and that he was having a heart attack. Instead of getting him checked out ASAP, they told him to wait, because they assumed he was drunk because of his slurred and shaky speech. My father had been seeing doctors because they believed he had Parkinson's disease. So not only was he told to wait, they also assumed he was drunk because of his Parkinson's condition, and did not see him for that reason. Two hours passed in the ER and my father still had not been seen. He was there all alone, moaning and falling out of the chairs in the waiting room, and even had my mother (his ex-wife who is now remarried) on the phone with him telling her how much excruciating pain he was in and she was having him continue to tell the people at the counter he was having a heart attack. After hours passed and he still not been seen, they finally took him to a room. After hours of waiting in his hospital room, the doctors came and told him his aorta had split (aortic dissection) and he needed surgery ASAP. The hospital he had been waiting at for hours did not have good enough surgeons to complete the procedure he needed, so he was airlifted to a hospital in Chicago. While he was in the hospital he was originally at, his chance of survival was 75%, but by the time they got him to surgery in Chicago, it was only 10-20%, so clearly time was of the essence with a condition this serious. They wound up having to put a stent in that was the entire length of his aorta, one of the biggest a doctor we went to see a few days later has ever seen. A few months passed and he was still in recovery, and he just passed away two weeks ago today. The autopsy results are still out and we are waiting to get those back still, so I will update this post once I do, but it was ruled as cardiac arrest the night he died. My brother is currently in contact with an attorney my father had been seeing before he passed about a pending medical malpractice lawsuit he had started. My father was forced to sit and wait in an emergency room waiting room while falling out of the chair and moaning and writing in pain, being treated poorly because the staff thought he was drunk, and had delay of treatment for an extremely serious condition that needed immediate attention and surgery. I'm curious to know what exactly we should expect from this. [link] [comments] |
[TX] Can a tow company just raid random parking lots for cars with expired stickers and take them? Posted: 04 Oct 2018 06:18 AM PDT I realize I have no one to blame but myself for letting the sticker expire. I dont intend to give the towing company a hard time over my mistake. The question is really just academic. EDIT: The sticker I am referring to is the registration sticker. EDIT: So is on my apartment lease and it seems the towing company maybe has a legal obligation to notify me within ten days. They mailed that notification to me, it probably doesn't matter that I did not get it. They had a lot of signage saying state law requires they accept card payments, but they said the card reader was down and I would have to pay cash. I got the sense from that the card reader has been down for a very long time, if it exists at all. All in all this was all probably legal, if scummy, and also again my own fault for letting the sticker expire. $200 lesson learned. [link] [comments] |
(IL) I talked to a lawyer about prior employer's practices and now I've been subpoenaed. Posted: 04 Oct 2018 12:15 PM PDT A few things for starters. This is a mortgage company in Chicago. As best as I can remember, I never signed an NDA with this company. They originally hired me as an intern, and then brought me on full time when I graduated college. I never signed anything when I became a salaried employee because I was already in the HR system. I left the company about a year and a half ago. A few months ago, out of the blue my old manager from that job (Company A) called me and wanted to catch up. When we got in touch, she told me she was with a new company (Company B). Company A and B are fighting a lawsuit against each other, and she wants to know if I would talk to Company B's lawyers about how some of our data processes worked. I led our team on that so I know how it all works. I agree because I like her and figured I would do it as a favor. The mortgage industry is obviously heavily regulated post-recession, so when a mortgage company gets a new loan officer, we have to be careful about how we receive their past client information. Company B's lawyers asked me about how Company A received this data and processed it. I told them everything I can remember, they draft it up into a statement, and I signed it. A few weeks later, I get a call from Company B lawyer saying that Company A is going to subpoena me. I sigh and say OK. I receive the subpoena, and it is requesting that I hand over any communication I had with Company B employees/their lawyers, and that I appear in front of a notary, but not in court. I have been a little queasy about the whole thing, because even thought I'm almost certain I didn't sign an NDA, I can't remember for certain. But I do know that another past coworker talked Company B's lawyers, and my old manager didn't indicate any worry about it either. Another reason I'm worried, is because in my statement, I indicated that there may have been times that we did not process the data "by the books". Meaning, the way we handled the data was not up to our compliance teams standards. I don't know if Company A's compliance team had these rules in place because it was explicitly illegal to do otherwise, or just for best practice to protect the company. So I have a few questions:

My friends dad got a bill from his HOA for 23k?! (Washington state) Posted: 04 Oct 2018 06:28 AM PDT Apparently my dad's HOA thinks it's ok to sign off on $23,000 of work without my dads written consent and then bill him for it. The HOA presidents argument was that he sent a letter stating that work needed to be done and there would be some cost on our end. From my understanding he would still need to show us the estimate and we would need to agree to the cost before he even started. He had no authority whatsoever to sign a $23,000 check expecting $23,000 back in reimbursement. My dad is trying to be civil about it because he doesnt want to deal with lawyers, but I think he should lawyer up. Is this legal? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Oct 2018 11:12 AM PDT A law firm has been gathering records for my personal injury case for the past 3 or 4 months. I've only called twice in that time and spoken to the attorney once and the assistant once. Today I called the assistant to get an update and was treated with silence and then a passive aggressive "joke" about phone calls being bad for her. I understand that they're busy but a third phone call in 3 or 4 months hardly seems unreasonable. Am I overreacting or should I be genuinely concerned. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Oct 2018 04:32 AM PDT Hi everyone, I'd really appreciate some outside opinions on an issue I'm having with my vet. I'm really upset and confused about it, and have my doubts as to whether it is normal/decent. (For tl;dr skip down) First, some relevant background: I've been a client of the practice for eight years now. I think I have been a good client. Total, I have spent upwards of $60k over the years on my show-jumping horses, most of whom were rescues I rehabilitated and trained for new careers and good homes. I have always paid bills promptly and reliably. Well, I downsized due to a nasty divorce and custody battle which wore my finances thin. I have only had the one horse, a thoroughbred rescue I've owned for almost a decade, on the roster for about two years now. In February of this year I had my vet do work on said horse's hocks and stifles (he has residual issues from being over-raced as a youngster), and the bill came to just over $900. Shortly thereafter, my ex husband stopped paying child support (illegally), and the still-continuing court case blew up all over again. I've been strapped thin by lawyer costs and such. I made payments on the February vet bill every month, but my finances have been fragile so they have ranged from $100 to $400. My vet asked why the delay, and I explained that I'm going through a rough spot and doing my best. By July, I had paid the total initial amount. Suddenly, I got a text from my vet saying he is sending my bill to collections. This was so absurd to me that I ignored it, thinking he sent it to the wrong person, as has happened on isolated occasions before. Nope. I got a notice from a collection agency in the mail shortly thereafter. I owe another $1000 in interest and late fees, apparently. My vet has suspended service. As a bonus, he called my farrier and told him that I don't pay my bills, and the guy bailed on an appointment without even the courtesy of a notice. Just didn't show up, and didn't answer my calls/texts. My horse had thrown a front shoe, ripping out a good chunk of hoof with it, and I had to scramble to get someone out. I only found out about what really happened from someone else. This is despite a history of paying the farrier in person at time of services rendered, every time. For those who don't know, it can be very damaging for a regularly shod horse to be missing a shoe, especially if it took hoof with it. Now, my vet has never been personable with me, and I've tolerated his poor social skills on account of good services rendered. But...this seems excessive. I know vets have bills to pay too, but a few hundred dollars seems pretty weird to be so punitive about. I've ignored the collections bill so far because, frankly, I have no idea what to make of all this. My daughter and I have lost almost everything because of my ex, but the horse in question is family and we won't sell him. Am I crazy? Am I justified? Is this normal? TL;DR paid $900 vet bill off over 6-month period due to sudden financial hardship, got slapped with $1000 collections bill for interest/late fees, vet has been besmirching my name to other pros at risk of my horse's wellbeing. Wtf? Thanks in advance for any input! (Cross-posted from r/equestrian) EDIT: Yes, I'm aware of how collections work. Yes, I have paid the total amount of the initial bill. Yes, a payment plan was agreed upon. No, it was not made clear to me that there would be interest, let alone so high. Yes, I was honest about my situation. No, I had no prior unpaid bills. And, for those who really don't know how to read, YES, I sold the horses to loving homes. I'm a vet tech and would never allow an animal to suffer under my own limitations. [link] [comments] |
