I can't afford my student loans starting next month, what do I do? Student Loans

I can't afford my student loans starting next month, what do I do?

    Posted: 06 Oct 2018 08:35 PM PDT

As the title says, my private student loans are in forbearance right now, and starting next month I'll have to resume payments. I can't afford to do this.

My total take home pay is less than the total cost of my rent. I live with my mom and the only way we're able to afford rent is with my income and her disability check put together. We're barely able to survive as it is. Once the student loan kicks back in, I won't be able to pay any of it.

Also, these are private student loans, so there are no deferments/forgiveness/income based payments/etc. I have federal loans as well, but those are on an Income-Based-Repayment program. So I don't have to worry about those for the time being.

What do I do if I physically can't pay it? Will they sue me? Can a private lender garnish my paycheck?

Also, do I have a chance at getting my loans dismissed in court?

    UK to US

    Posted: 06 Oct 2018 11:35 AM PDT

Hi. So, I'm part of a UK plan 2 repayment system. I moved to the USA. Thought I was under the threshold when i got a job in April. Realise now that I'm not. How will this be handled by the student loans company as I now have 6-7 months of repayment to make?

    Looking for Resources

    Posted: 06 Oct 2018 03:02 PM PDT

    Hi guys!

So, I'm almost done with school, just 7 classes left, but I'm out of ideas on where I can look for funds. I've been out of classes for a year now after being rejected from multiple loans last year, and I'm fresh out of ideas on where to look for money.

I'm not eligible for federal or state loans/grants, I can't seem to get private loans with or without cosigners (and trust me, I've asked a lot of people with better credit than me), and I'm working two jobs to pay off what I currently owe directly to my school in the hopes that I can register for classes before the spring semester begins.

I'll have amazing job opportunities once I've graduated, but almost every employer in my field wants either certifications or degrees, of which I have none because I can't afford them.

Are there any resources I've missed or anything else I could do to get the last loan I need for school?

Help choosing IDR plan for loans

    Posted: 06 Oct 2018 04:05 PM PDT

My 2017 filing while in school was around 20, but the job I start in 2 weeks (govrn. public service) will pay almost twice as much. Based on my research, I believe that IBR is best for me since my pay will increase, but I am open to suggestions.

I should also be eligible for public service loan forgiveness, and IBR allows for the most forgiven when I put in my future salary.

    any thoughts?

    OSAP

    Posted: 06 Oct 2018 09:27 PM PDT

I am receiving Ontario Works and I really want to go back to College through the PSW Program but my OW Worker claims that OSAP would be considered 'income' and I would loose my geared to income rent.

Now I don't know what to do, do I finish my MSFA For January and enroll or just forget everything and continue to do nothing?

Seeing as I have never been employed at all during my teenage or adult years due to caring for a controlling, manipulative Schizophrenic grandmother.

Hello, how exactly do loans work, I understand you get a parent one with fafsa but it might not be enough. Should a private one be “better” in terms of covering tuition and rent ? Also when I get a refund what can I spend it on? Supplies are a given one but, being out of state I’ll need a car.

Can I do that? I have money saved but just in case I need it for more important matters I'm not willing to spend it right now.

Direct PLUS loan and medical collections

    Posted: 06 Oct 2018 07:30 PM PDT

    Hi there,

I have $1500 in medical collections on my credit report and I will have to take a Direct PLUS loan for medical school next year. Will this affect my chances of getting approved? If so, does contacting the collection agencies and negotiating payments to close the accounts fix the problem? Thanks.

    Odd Financial Aid Verification

    Posted: 05 Oct 2018 08:34 PM PDT

After having to verify my fafsa information with my mother's 2016 tax transcript for community college, I was sent a verification task to "Please provide a detailed explanation as to how your family supported themselves on such a low income in 2016."

I've searched online for advice about similar verification questions with no luck. Is there anything I need to know about what they're looking for in this question? I'm just so worried I might mess up and lose the aid because I really can't afford even the costs of books that I'm paying for school. I'm not sure what to say: "It was hard, I was poor, but I survived?" I also moved out in 2016 but fafsa still considers me a dependent. Should I talk about just myself or my family too?

Any help is appreciated, thank you all so much.

Parent forbearance on a loan affecting my eligibility for government financial aid and filling out the fasfa??

    Posted: 05 Oct 2018 02:08 PM PDT

I am a high school senior wishing to fill out the 2019-2020 fasfa for college. I asked my parent for their information and they started yelling at me about how this president has changed everything about student loans, and how a forbearance on their 6different student loans (some private and some government I assume) wouldn't allow me to get federal aid. Is this true? Is it true that a parent's forbearance on a student loan from the government would disqualify their dependent for a loan? Posted this on a throwaway acc because it is personal. Thanks y'all.
