My brother spilt milk all over my laptop and it's now ruined. My insurance company is sending a guy over tomorrow to pick it up to see if he can fix it (he won't) before they replace it. I was hoping to get all my photos off of it and to do that I need to open the laptop up. Will this void the insurance from covering it if I open it up?

Kaiser cancelled my insurance months ago and I never knew?

    Posted: 27 Oct 2018 01:26 PM PDT

I just found out today that Kaiser cancelled my insuranced July 31st. Inbetween then and now, I've had multiple doctors visits, a colonoscopy, and a prescription filled. I can't talk to them until monday, but i called healthcare.gov aka marketplace and they said I'm still filed as covered under their records. I looked at the claims on KP.org for my past visits/procedures and all were denied due to no coverage after July. I requested an address change in May that was never carried out, so I haven't been getting paper bills. I decided this was fine since I used online more anyway. All my bills currently listed online, I've paid. But I've also gotten very few e-mails for bills, and the bills I received monthly, I've paid. The only thing I can think of is that my request on the phone to switch my automatic monthly payment from an expiring card to a new one (this was also during the address change request) didn't go through. If so, why have I not seen any monthly bills on kp.org? And why was I not e-mailed or called? HOW did no one notice I didn't have coverage while sending me to all these tests and procedures? The first person to notice was the pharmacist today.

Big question, if it does has something to do with my monthly payments, can I just pay them back, reinstate my coverage, and resubmit my claims? My medical bills that they've been charging me in full for are at $6,000. I have no idea how I was never notified. Does anyone have any advice?

Question for life insurance peeps- strange stuff after policy was reinstated?

    Posted: 27 Oct 2018 08:48 PM PDT

Hi 😊 Something weird is happening with my dad and I'm wondering if this is something his life insurance company is doing. His life insurance policy lapsed when he went to Florida for several months in winter and forgot to pay his premium (which was mailed to his home in the northeast). He was able to get it reinstated by paying it and making a phone call. The policy has been in effect for over a decade.

Now, a few months after this happened, a woman came out to my dad's house and said she was part of a "community health initiative" for seniors. She can even give him a $50 gift card! 🤗 She just needs his weight, blood pressure and some questions answered. He said no thanks. She kept pushing and he said no. She finally left.

A few weeks later she comes back. Same story. He says no and she leaves. A few weeks after that a new woman comes out and says she's woman 1's supervisor. She wants to give my dad a gift card and collect his health info etc. Same story. My mom says "how about if I do it? Can I have a gift card?"

Woman says "uh, no. Your husband was randomly selected. But not you."

My mom asks if any of our neighbors are eligible. Uh, no. Well, maybe. She really can't disclose that info. My parents tell her to leave and she finally does. But she is even more pushy and annoyed that my dad doesn't want the magical gift card and health assessment. My mom checked with neighbors- none of them received this offer (though several wanted it! Lol).

We're wondering if the life insurance company might be behind this and trying to get information about my dad in order to cancel his policy or something. Is it strange that a very old life insurance policy could so easily be reinstated after lapsing? Our imagination might be running wild, but we're wondering if it shouldn't have been so easy to reinstate the policy and maybe the insurance company has realized it and is trying some weird, yet legal, way of getting his information??

California - Car Insurance for Gifted/Financed Car

    Posted: 27 Oct 2018 11:13 PM PDT

I just bought my father a car, but I'm not sure who needs to carry the insurance or how to go about showing proof of insurance to the banks. Does anyone have any experience with this?

    Getting prescription filled without insurance/doctor?

    Posted: 27 Oct 2018 12:51 PM PDT

I hope this is the right sub for this.

I've been on antidepressants for about 6 years now, the same med for the last 3 or so. It was initially prescribed by a psychiatrist, but eventually my GP would do it. I've had the same GP since I was born, so he and I would work together on my meds, I would see him every few months to check up, and he'd set me up with a few months of refills until I'd see him again. I lost my insurance this year, so he'd worked with me so I didn't have to come see him every few months, as I couldn't afford it.

I got a letter in the mail informing me that my GP has kind of suddenly resigned, or more likely retired. Basically, I can't see him anymore, but I also can't afford to go to a doctor without insurance. As my meds are an antidepressant, I can't just stop taking them. Do I have any options as far as getting my prescription without seeing a doctor?

As I'm typing it out, it sounds shady, but I just can't suddenly stop my meds just because my doctor retired. I called his office to see where he went, if he's got a different practice, and they didn't know. I couldn't even get in with their other doctors for the time being because they're apparently booked until May.

    Help?

Medicare and Medicaid - How should one offset the other in regards to patient costs?

    Posted: 27 Oct 2018 01:23 PM PDT

I am currently staring at three medical bills of various amounts, all for services rendered in 2015 and 2018. All of them are for specialized exams. I am beginning to think that someone, somewhere screwed the pooch in regards to billing the proper insurance due to the dollar amounts involved. Two of the bills are less than $100 and one is for over three times that. How does Medicare and Medicaid begin to pay the costs?

    Car Insurance Claim Question

    Posted: 27 Oct 2018 04:16 PM PDT

I'm not sure if this is the right sub, so I apologize if not. This is a long story but I'll try to make it as short s possible.

A few months ago I moved to Maryland from Florida. MD has a law where a vehicle inspection is required before you are able to get a state license plate/registration. This is the only state that I have lived in that has required this.

About a month and a half ago, I went to get my inspection. There were three things that I needed to fix to pass the inspection: sway bar, brake light, and a large dent on the driver's side panel of my extended bed pickup. The gentleman who did the inspection told me that the dent failed inspection because someone or something could get snagged on the edge of the dent.

The dent was caused when I hit a pole in a parking garage about 6 years ago. I did not file a claim for the damages at that time as the damages didn't effect the mechanical ability of the vehicle to run. I did get an estimate for the damages and they were, I believe, around 2500 to replace the panel. This was in Iowa.

The shop where I got the inspection did not do body work. I did get the sway bar and brake light fixed at the shop that did the inspection.

I took the truck to be looked at today to see if it was possible to repair the truck to the level where I would be able to pass the state inspection. The gentlemen at the shop said that the only way he would be able to assist would be to replace the panel. The cost he gave me on the written estimate would be around 2600.

The truck is 11 years old and currently has around 150,0000 miles on it but, other than some small technical issues, runs fine. I would like to keep the truck for 2 more years, if at all possible. The KBB on the truck is around 2K.

At the shop where I received the written estimate on the damages today, the guy mentioned the possibility of claiming the damages through my insurance. I have been with my current auto insurance company for about a year. I recently updated my policy when I moved states for work. Is this legal to claim damage this old? Is it ethical?

I feel the state inspection has put me in something of a rock and a hard place. I don't want to replace the vehicle as there is no damage that makes it dangerous to drive but I can't seem to pass the inspection without spending more than the vehicle is worth.

Edit 1: Additional data. My Florida vehicle registration expires in February. It is unclear how much longer I will be at my current position. It is possible that in July or August of 2019, I would be able to move out of state.

Health and welfare and company health insurance on a federal site

    Posted: 27 Oct 2018 11:17 AM PDT

Hello all, I am the shop steward of a union on a government federal contract in Washington state. We are provided a health and welfare fringe as per federal contract.

We have a wide mix of situations obviously with veterans on tri-care, single and family people obviously creates many unique situations.

I have had an odd situation brought to me and for the life of me I can't find the correct wording or rule to quote that counters their argument in the situation.

Here it is:Worker with wife and 2 kids. H and w of approx 900 month, while on company ins must pay an additional 1500 to cover wife and 2 kids.total of roughly 2400 and change per month on company cigna insurance. He obviously wants to seek out insurance elsewhere with open enrollment upon us starting next week. They claim the insurance he has found, is not acceptable as it is not a "group" plan, but an individual plan. I can't understand the difference, if there is any, or why they would care so long as the individual is covered per federal rules for contractors on a federal site?

I am allowed to move on to my " legally domiciled adults" plan through her work which would check all the boxes to take my health and welfare payout to then purchase the insurance there but he is not.

I am fairly certain they are self-insured and don't want to lose a large percentage of employees on their plan but welcome to the free market I guess. My individual plan costs me 790 dollars a month btw, which is why I am switching asap.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated. I decided to be shop steward to help make positive changes but it seems like I signed up for daily ass kickings more than anything.

Should I sign up for a $0 premium high deductible bronze plan on top of the health insurance I get through my spouse's job?

    Posted: 27 Oct 2018 02:13 PM PDT

My employer switched to high deductible plans a few years ago, while my spouse's employer continues to offer traditional health insurance. Since the switch, we've signed up for family coverage (us plus kids) through my spouse's employer. We're happy with our current insurance.

This year, my employer is offering a high deductible bronze employee-only plan for a $0 premium. On one hand, this seems like an opportunity for me to get more coverage, but on the other hand I imagine it would introduce additional hassles and only really pay off if I had claims above the deductible.

I assume the hassles would be caused by having to use the lesser plan as my primary and then having to submit everything to my spouse's plan as secondary. What would the benefits be? Are they worth it?

I'm in my 40's and in reasonably good health.

Who's fault is in minor car accident

    Posted: 27 Oct 2018 05:17 AM PDT

I would like to know who's fault was. Tried to draw it. http://imgur.com/8vyvvvx 2 lanes, 2 cars A and B. B was trying to get out of parking spot with the back maneuver. A was going back because of safety reasons (big truck couldn't fit). Who do you think is responsible for crash?
