How Swachhcoin Seeks To Contribute To The Making Of Smart Cities In India And The World At Large

    Posted: 27 Oct 2018 12:11 AM PDT

INTRODUCTION In understanding the manner as well as the extent to which the Swachhcoin platform can contribute to the making of the cities across India smart and subsequently extending to all the cities in the world, it is essential to first have an understanding of what the Swachhcoin platform is.

The Swachhcoin Foundation has as its fundamental aim, the transformation of waste inputs into outputs which are useful and have high economic value. Such outputs include fertilizers, power generating gases and energy, among other relevant outputs. Unlike the traditional waste management process, Swachhcoin will adopt the most advanced and modern technologies in carrying out these transformation activities in a highly efficient manner.

The pertinent question at this stage then becomes: What is a smart city?

There is no universal definition of the smart city as the concept varies from one place to another. However, there are some common features that underlie every definition or conceptualization of a smart city. Basically, a smart city is used in reference to a city that utilizes technology and data to:

Create more efficient results; Improve sustainability in every sector Foster a wide-ranging economic development and Contribute to the enhancement of living conditions for those residing and working in that specific city. A smart city simply refers to a city that utilizes a smarter energy infrastructure. Among other things, therefore, a smart city should have a waste management system that handles the removal of household and commercial garbage, and the disposal of the garbage in a manner that is economically and environmentally sound. It is, however, sad that most cities in India and even the world at large fall short of the standards of a smart city in this wise. Most of these cities have major waste management problems that make the attainment of the status of the smart city a difficulty.

WASTE MANAGEMENT ISSUES For a very long time, the excessive generation of waste products has been a major problem for several cities in India and the world at large. As indicated in a World Bank Report, the US, for instance, is solely responsible for the generation of 250 million tons of waste yearly and this translates to roughly 4.6 pounds daily. Further breaking that figure down, it means an average US-based individual disposes of 1,200 pounds of waste yearly.

Another issue is that landfill issue leachate and emissions of toxic greenhouse gases are features of landfills. This is because most discarded waste have toxic components and these toxic substances find their way out of the soil and into groundwater causing them to be unfit for consumption.

HOW THE SWACHHCOIN PLATFORM SEEKS TO CREATE A CHANGE The global waste management issues cannot be handled by just some persons and organizations. On the contrary, the issues can be handled when there are willingness and contribution on the part of a mass population.

The Swachhcoin Foundation has a core aim to facilitate the creation of a global and decentralized waste management ecosystem that comprises of domestic households and industries. The creation of this ecosystem is to ensure the existence of an extensive and comprehensive infrastructure that offers sufficient momentum for proper waste management.

The Swachhcoin project is on a mission to bring about a change in people's perception of waste by showing them that waste products stand as the greatest untapped resources available to mankind. To do that, Swachhcoin seeks to implement a monetary incentivizing technique that allows people to get rewarded for proper waste management. It is envisaged that over a definite period, this technique will create a proper waste management habit among everyone across the world.

Not only will Swachhcoin contribute to making the environment more habitable for everyone, the Swachhcoin platform through the assistance of diverse advanced technology will also make waste processing very profitable for waste management industries and in turn leading to a widespread adoption.

By so doing, the Swachhcoin platform will contribute to making smart cities as it will clad those cities with the characteristics of smart cities in the waste management sector. For one, it fosters efficiency in the waste management processing and also supports sustainability by ensuring best practices in waste disposal.

Currently, the waste management system in existence is vast but very disorganized. The traditional waste management industries currently have poor and archaic technologies which limit their operational abilities. The system lacks the ability to leverage on modern technologies such as IoT, Big Data and Blockchain that can cause a major change in the system's revenue. The Swachhcoin platform can foster that adoption and change as it aims to entirely eliminate that problem and contribute to the improvement of the technological abilities thus increasing profit significantly.

Also, it contributes to economic development in the sense that it will develop a philanthropic structure to serve the less privileged through its network-fee contributions. All the funds gotten through this will be transparently distributed in an autonomous manner to uplift the less privileged and increase the living standard of everyone in the society.

All these contribute to the enhancement of human life of those living in cities indirectly but more directly, the Swachhcoin has an objective which contributes directly to this enhancement. Currently, waste management sector, directly and indirectly, exploits the workers who are made to work under inhumane conditions or are paid the meagre sum and have no employment contracts or workers protection to fall back on. Swachhcoin will independently make all these deprived benefits available to workers and provide better working conditions

Furthermore, additional revenue will be generated from the use of modern technologies such as Blockchain, Big Data and AI as there will be an increase in operational efficiencies and productivity coupled with an improvement in the output quality. Existing waste management companies will also have a complete business plan with the inclusion of a break-even point. This will be created based on detailed past research and development in addition to active onsite survey and all these will help in scaling the adoption barrier.

In conclusion, the Swachhcoin platform and its benefits are not limited to India alone. It is a project on a mission to be adopted in all parts of the world so as to foster the existence of smarter cities globally.

Student wanting to start a Food Stand, what are my barriers to entry?

    Posted: 26 Oct 2018 07:08 PM PDT

I'll keep it brief. I'd like to start a food stand/concession stand and go to different events and sell food, drinks, and other small items.

I have a 10x10 pavilion stand. I plan on purchasing an 8"ft table, some chairs, something to organize cash and coins, and a debit card processor. I'll create and/or order a poster listing some food items and their price to display in the front.

I volunteer with the city so I'll be on the lookout for upcoming events (such as our local parade) to attend. From there I just have to go to the City and ask permission to set up the stand.

Are there any other barriers to entry I should be on the lookout for? Am I going to need to get a license to sell food (even if it's just chips and Coca Cola or something of that sort)? Am I going to need to create an actual company, or can I just be a random bloke who gets permission from the city to set up booth?

Any critiques are appreciated and welcomed.
