Should I add that I’m an amateur boxer to my resume? Posted: 02 Oct 2018 07:52 PM PDT I have a friend who is a recruiter for a mid tier firm. She was telling me how all of the student resumes look exactly the same. They all have similar GPA's, similar extra curricular activities, and at least some internship experience. Also, that they all seem to blur together and that it's so hard to pick some candidates sometimes. She was telling me to have sort of special interest on my resume, or really anything to set myself apart. I'm currently an amateur boxer and kick boxer. I have a record 5-0 in boxing and 1-0 in kick boxing. It started off just as a hobby to lose some weight, but it's grown to be a passion of mine. I usually find a way to bring it up on interviews and the interviewer will usually respond positively to that. Should I really even consider adding boxing to my resume? I feel like it's just pushing past unprofessionalism which isn't good for a major like accounting. Idk what do you guys think? TL:Dr. Should I add the fact that I'm a boxer to my resume? Posted: 02 Oct 2018 06:29 PM PDT Just did the EY 'First Round' Online Interview. I felt the experience was very lousy. You are basically sitting there talking to yourself, you look at the screen then the camera then the screen again. So focused on the technical aspect that you get way too caught up in it. Has anybody done this? Were they selected to move onto the next round of interviews? I would assume they are more focused on the content of the answers than they are on your mannerism in from of the camera, but what the hell do I know? [link] [comments]
How to reply to the question "What do you like about majoring in accounting?" for job interviews? Posted: 02 Oct 2018 07:46 PM PDT Hello everyone, I've had a couple of interviews for some accounting positions and about a third of them ask this question and I don't how to respond to it. Every time someone asked this question I always draw blank and mutter some bullshit that never sounds right. I was wondering what everyone here would say when asked such question. Why do some people in public act like their shit don't stink? Posted: 02 Oct 2018 06:05 PM PDT There is this girl that is in the class above me and she acts like her shit don't stink. By that, I mean she is a total bitch. To make matters worse, I have to travel with her for a week. Who the fuck raised these people and why are they total bitches? [link] [comments]
Posted: 02 Oct 2018 10:26 AM PDT Not sure if any CCH tax users noticed this, when you calculate the return and the calculator appears on the screen the calculator in CCH displays the number "8675309" which is the famous phone number in the song Jenny by Tommy Tutone. [link] [comments]
Posted: 02 Oct 2018 08:25 PM PDT Hey guys i need help on advice on how to get an accounting internship. I just started my junior year and I want an internship but here is my problem: I just finished community college and transferred to an online school. I really didnt want to do it but disney has offered to pay 100% of my tuition and books at Brandman University. I do not know much about it and I just started at this online school. My parents are cheap and tell me I have no choice but Brandman. Is my chances hurt from getting an internship? I also input my resume for review. I have been applying to literally anything that says the words accounting internship on indeed lately. I didnt do clubs at cc. Did do come community service from my jobs, but they are not related to accounting https://drive.google.com/file/d/1NscT1YLE8ET8cCNVVFHQgN9qgCme83he/view?usp=sharing [link] [comments]

Is it worth to get Master's degree in accounting? Posted: 02 Oct 2018 04:02 PM PDT I graduated with BS in actuarial science and statistics, but these two weren't my thing, and it's hard to find jobs in these fields without a graduate degree (stat) and exams (actuarial). I really enjoyed financial classes in college and also got a minor in management. I work in a tax firm now. I just found out that my university offers MS in accounting that takes just 30 credits to complete (I always thought it was about 60 credits). I'm tempted now, especially because my pay isn't great, and I want to move to NYC. So is getting out of the job field for a year and getting in more debt ($22K) worth it? Will the MS degree really bump up my potential salary? I understand that CPA is much more important, but MSA program also helps prepare for it, and I don't have 150 credit hours and necessary credits in accounting to take CPA exams. Extra question: what about MS in finance? I really enjoy learning about investments and risk management. But I read that this degree is not good and worse than MSA. Why? [link] [comments]
PwC CMAAS or GT Transaction services (audit/FDD rotation)? Posted: 02 Oct 2018 07:39 PM PDT Hello all, I have these two internship opportunities I am currently deciding between. I am not sure which would be best, I am more interested in the M&A support that GT would offer but I fear that leaving a B4 offer on the table would not be a great idea, and hardcore technical accounting that CMAAS brings seems interesting as well. These are for the same location, pay is not a factor, and fit was good with both teams. How would you evaluate these? does anyone have experience with these groups? Any help would be appreciated. Edit: I will add that exit ops are important, and I'm not sure how different exit ops would be between either group [link] [comments]
Posted: 02 Oct 2018 06:34 AM PDT Both Deloitte and EY post a growth of 11%, while PwC bring in just 7%. Don't worry though boys, we're still #1 in Vault's eyes. [link] [comments]
Journal entry accounting for inventory appreciation? Posted: 02 Oct 2018 06:55 PM PDT If it was found that the inventory of a company was undervalued by $2,000,000 due to appreciation what would the journal entry be to revalue the inventory? I'm thinking a debit of $2M to inventory but what else?? thanks [link] [comments]
Interview for EY Forensics internship Posted: 02 Oct 2018 10:48 AM PDT Hey guys, So I applied through my university for EY's risk advisory internship, but they ended up giving me an interview for the forensics assurance practice. I'm pretty happy with that though, as forensic accounting is one of the more interesting roles in this field. I was wondering if anyone had any advice for the interview, particularly if they ask me "Why do you want this position". I'm not sure what to say beyond the fact that I find it fascinating uncovering fraud and discovering evidence. Any tips/suggestions/general interview strategies would be appreciated. Thank you [link] [comments]
Does anyone have the pdf of Barclays Capital Excel Shortcut Keys? Posted: 02 Oct 2018 08:10 AM PDT A while ago I remember seeing and saving a copy of the Barclays Capital list of shortcut keys for Excel. It was very helpful and pretty comprehensive. Now I can't find it anywhere and originally got it from some offhand reddit comment months ago. Does anyone know where I can find this in pdf form, or something that say a 60+-year-old coworker could follow? [link] [comments]
Renting A Condo For Work Travel in Canada Posted: 02 Oct 2018 09:31 PM PDT I am a single-employee corporation in BC. I live in one city in BC, but one of my main consulting clients is several hours away. I regularly travel there and stay in hotels to work onsite with the client. From a personal and corporate tax point of view, how can I rent a second place in that location so I can avoid paying hotel prices? Should I rent it as me personally and claim the personal tax credits for using it as a home office, or is there a way the corporation can rent it and would that be more or less advantageous? Any help you can get would be great. I need to find an accountant but haven't met one I liked yet. Thanks! [link] [comments]
How do you find stockholders equity for a small company? Posted: 02 Oct 2018 03:23 PM PDT I am trying to find out how stockholders equity will be presented on the balance sheet. The assets the company has is $1,290,562.36, there are no liabilities present. The company also has 835,000 common shares at a par value of .01. How would you make the stockholders equity section on the balance sheet with this information? [link] [comments] |
