Posted: 01 Sep 2018 03:37 AM PDT Need advice or help about traveling home to the US. On August 15th, I flew from the US to Croatia with a stop-over in Munich. My return flight to the US is scheduled for September 4th. I booked my flights through online 3rd party budget ticket agent. My problem is that apparently the airline is saying that I was a no show for my flight from Munich to Zagreb in August, even though I was on the plane. They cancelled my future flight with them on September 4th claiming it is their policy to cancel return flights if a passenger no shows. (But again, I didn't no show. I was on the flight.) I have called my travel agent company multiple times but get the same answer - they tell me every time that they need to verify with the airline, put me on hold, and then tell me the airline will not budge - the airline shows me as a no show and won't reinstate my return flight. The travel agency says there is nothing they can do since it is the airline's policy and the agency wants me to purchase a new return flight, which I cannot really afford, and don't think I should have to anyway. I called the airline directly and they keep saying that their register is showing me as a no show for the Munich to Zagreb flight. But I was on that flight. When I arrived and boarded the plane in Munich, I was told there was not an actual attendant to check us into the flight so we were guided to scan our tickets and board the plane, which I did, along with the other passengers. There are people who sat next to me on the plane and I had conversations with who can witness I was there, besides airport CCTV which I am sure can prove I boarded the plane and exited the plane in Zagreb. I have a visa stamp in my passport from going through the boarder in the airport. It is so scary to me to think this airline allowed someone to board the plane and has no record of them on the flight. What type of security is that?? I need help - I am at a stalemate. I am not sure what to do since I was 100% on that flight and it is the airline who made the mistake. I have been recording the names and numbers and taking notes of all my conversations. Can anyone give advice on what I should do? I have 3 more days before my planned return flight should leave. Any help is greatly appreciated. TL;DR My airline made a mistake and said I was a no show even though I was on the flight. Subsequently, they cancelled my upcoming return flight reservation. Neither the airline nor my travel agent will fix it, as they both push it off on each other. EDIT: Thank you all for helpful advice and support! There are definitely some suggestions made I would never think of and I will definitely look into. Just some additional information and updates: Yes, I'm US citizen. As someone mentioned about the luggage, I did have issues when I landed in Zagreb, none of my checked bags made it to the destination. Looking back, if they thought I was a no-show they might have pulled it from the plane. However, when I landed I didn't know that was a possibility and just thought my bags didn't arrive. I immediately filed a lost baggage claim, called the airline and they confirmed that my bags were on the next flight to Zagreb. I received my bags the next day. While on the call with the airline there wasn't any mention of me not being on a flight. I've spent the afternoon on calls with the airline and they haven't changed their position, although they agreed to pull the flight manifest and notify me when they have more information. I had already thrown away my printed boarding pass and luggage tags. I'm making a customer services complaint with documentation of an e-boarding pass, iPhone location data showing me in Munich airport and then after the flight to Zagreb airport (the times match the flight), passport visa stamp and luggage tracking sticker. I'll attempt to get the lost luggage form from the airport as well. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Sep 2018 07:56 AM PDT My dad just wanted me out of the house for a while, and this is the way he did it. It resulted in a very boring 5 days in a hospital, a $1200 hospital bill, and my gun rights being taken away from me. The officer who showed up was on high alert from the moment he arrived, and he looked at a steak knife in my room (for steak and only steak) and pretended like that's evidence of some kind of potential threat, which he used for the involuntary commitment even though I was calm and not a danger to myself or anyone else. The ambulance staff were completely aware that it was bullshit and I didn't need to be involuntarily committed to a hospital. The ER room they had me waiting in for about 11 hours, completely alone, also appeared to realize I didn't actually need to be there. The mental hospital people appeared to be overworked and scarcely noticed I was there at all. Too busy with actual crazypeople to address the fact that I didn't need to be there. Now that I'm out of there, I've got this $1200 and I've been stripped of the right to bear arms. What can I do to resolve this situation? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Sep 2018 09:25 AM PDT Not really sure where to go or even if I should talk to an attorney. Over a month ago I was having kidney stones. I called in for it late july and they said that my calling wasn't sick time so the two days I was off were personal leave, which is pointed differently, and they used that to put me on probation. My plant manager said if I took FMLA for it he would have my job one way or another, legal or not. So I kept coming to work for three days, going to the ER for the pain so I could come back in to work, still strung out from the morphine and norcos and Percocets they gave me. Each time the ER doctors and nurses would be telling me I need to see a urologist asap, to which I told them I would when I had a day off. They wrote drs notes but they wouldn't have done me any good in my situation. I finally couldn't get off my bathroom floor after three days of being in and out of the ER and fearing they'd fire me, took FMLA anyway. It's been three weeks and I finally had the procedure done to have the stones broken up by my urologist. I talked to the urologist about getting the two "personal kidney stone leave" days covered under FMLA but they said they can only date back to when I first saw the urologist which leaves me hanging. Today was my first day back at work and my boss won't even make eye contact with me. Wouldn't even respond when I gave him the paperwork from the Dr. Already I'm hearing from co-workers that they're watching me for any type of slip up for the chance to follow through. I am already looking for new work. But with the time it took to get the company to tell me where to go to file a STD claim and being off work I can't avoid this place. I have to be here. Can't remember being this stressed or ever feeling so singled out. I love my job, but do I even have a leg to stand on to make talking to an attorney viable? Or should I just accept that this is corporate America and move on? Forgot to add that this situation happened two or three years ago under the previous hr manager, when I had pneumonia from working in our wastewater treatment and was off for a week. They fired me saying it was job abandonment/no call no show. It wasn't until a supervisor here said that I HAD called in that they finally agreed to drop it. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Sep 2018 11:07 AM PDT So we're renting out a unit in a single-floor house near the football stadium (Ohio) and we woke up this morning to find 10-12 cars parked in the backyard. I texted the landlord and asked if he was renting out that area to people for the football games (I wasn't sure if they were just random people that decided to park wherever they wanted), and he said that he is renting out that area. When we signed the lease agreement, I combed over it really thoroughly and I definitely don't remember anything about people being able to park in the backyard or the landlord being able to rent out the property. It isn't really an issue of us (tenants) not having enough parking spots (we have 4 in the front of the house) as it is that there are now a bunch of people parked in the backyard and we had no idea this was going to happen. I'm wondering if there's anything we can do about it since the landlord is the property owner. Is there a legal precedent for something like this so we have some negotiating power? I'd at least like to see about negotiating lower rent or something like that as compensation for our backyard being filled with cars all day. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
[Florida] My abusive father is disabled, am I legally required to take care of him? Posted: 01 Sep 2018 09:08 AM PDT Hello everyone, I'm going to legally be an adult in a few months and my dad has always been a constant abuser in my life. I left school and am now taking classes online due to stress and now he relies heavily on me multiple times a day to get him dressed or in the shower or into bed. He could do all these things himself if he had lost weight, but still refuses to. Because he abused me sexually when I was a child it's very difficult for me to want to take care of him. He brought up the legality of things and I'm not educated in Florida law with this situation. Do I legally have to care for him? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Aug 2018 11:14 PM PDT Here's the story. I hired a Rover sitter off the app to watch my year old Mastiff/Corso puppy. On her Rover profile it states she has no dogs in heat at her residence, or that she dogsits. My dog is not neutered. From day 1 of dogsitting she told me how much she loves my dog and if I ever want to get rid of him that " she'd take him in a heartbeat" I have pages and pages of texts that prove everything I am about to say here. So about a month into her sitting for Titan, she texts me and tells me Titan might be a dad, Mitch(her boyfriend) didn't keep Sam (dog mom) and Titan (dog dad) separated and they latched up, she then sends me pics of Sam and Titan latched up. She didn't try to separate them, she took pics. This coming directly after she told me if I ever want to get rid of Titan that she'd "take him in a heartbeat". I was upset but her dog Sam is very sweet so I was ok with the puppies. I asked for two out of the litter and she agreed that's fine. Two weeks go by, her dogs pregnant, vet verified it. Ok so we have a pregnant Sam with Titans puppies who everyone loves and always tells me how sweet and handsome he is, and we have an agreement on text that I get 2 puppies. She ends up being pregnant with 9 pups. So Sam's pregnant, everything is going good. Until. Sara, Rover "sitter" was watching my dog for daycare when at 8 am he jumped the 4ft fence, nipped a small dog causing stiches (mind you he's a puppy, still learning, needs guidance and a sitter, hence the reason I pay for a sitter) The owner of the dog Titan nipped when he jumped the fence called the humane society. The ahumane society issued my sitter 2 citations. Both for not restraining a dog and one other I can't remember. They then issued me a "Dangerous Animal" citation which requires me to do the following: -Neuter -Microchip - Dangerous Dog license ($100) -Insurance ($120) -Dog behavior classes ($112) -Dog ownership classes ($80) So now I have to neuter my boy who I have been repeatedly told to wait until 3 years so their bones can completely form because he's a big dog, and complete the above list in 90 days. This all happened while I was paying Sara to "watch" my dog. So I fire Sara as my Rover sitter and go elsewhere. Fast forward to right now, the puppies are born, healthy and she texts me telling she's charging 350 per puppy and that I can only have one due to food, vet bills, cleaning up poop ( yes she really said that), etc. I agree to one puppy. Two weeks go by and the puppies are ready, she texts me "hey bad news we have to charge you 300 per puppy because we aren't even breaking even" She got by dog neutered, no more puppies, then keeps my dogs only puppies and is trying to charge me for them. Competitor has published our company's pricing information on their website [Georgia] Posted: 01 Sep 2018 09:47 AM PDT My company is in the software industry and we do not make any of our pricing public. We usually only give formal pricing after an NDA is signed. One of our competitors have posted on their website something along the lines of "Make the move from Company X to our company!" Then display cost information and their comparison of our products. The cost they are saying we charge is about double our actual price. They have a disclosure at the bottom of the chart saying that the information is from publicly available information and it might not be completely accurate. They've also made similar posts about 4 of our mutual competitors. Are they breaking a law? What should I include in an angry letter to them asking them to remove inaccurate information (while not giving them the accurate information)? [link] [comments] |

Evicted from own home by fradulent PFA. She doesn't even live there! Pennsylvania Posted: 01 Sep 2018 06:34 AM PDT Asking for a friend. This happened last night. Quick background: In July my friend got a temporary PFA against his abusive girlfriend and under the PFA she was evicted from the house. She fought the PFA, and under pressure from his own lawyer (You'll ruin the poor girls career!) he dropped it, since he figured she was out and it was over. In August she started harassing him. Showing up at his house randomly, etc. This brings us to last night. She shows up at his house, saying she wants to see his kids. He says no, leave or I'll call the police. She leaves. At 3 AM he's awakened by the police. She has retained an emergency PFA against HIM for "threatening" her. She listed HIS home address as HERS and he and his children were forced to leave. She is now in his house. It's a holiday weekend. What can he do? How long is it going to take to get her out? What if she destroys his house? She's caused damages in the house before. Can she get away with listing his house as her residence (she is homeless)? Can he get another PFA on her due to this? Is he going to have to formally evict her? Sidenote: He has never hit, threatened or harmed her in any way. She has routinely assaulted him and had the police called on her three times, one resulting in a disorderly conduct charge. Please help and thanks, he's desperate. [link] [comments] |
Driver's licence being suspended after seeking professional help? Posted: 01 Sep 2018 08:45 AM PDT Hello reddit, and thanks for any thoughts you might share with me - I've worked in the restaurant industry for nearly 12 years now, and I do enjoy a drink when I come home after a long shift. It's a way to bond with fellow humans and cope with whatever hardships we all have to face. Lately though I've found that I've been a little overzealous on the alcohol, so I asked my doctor for a psych consult to see if I could work down my need for the stuff. I met with the psychiatrist (in a provincial-funded institution) earlier this week, we went over each aspect of my life to try and narrow down the source of my unhealthy coping to hopefully find better solutions. I was very honest with her, and opened up old wounds to truly work on myself and get better. However, I received a call yesterday from the provincial-motor-vehicle-department (apologies, I'm not sure how to translate this) saying they would be forced to suspend my licence due to my current drinking habits, starting on Sept 20th. As far as I know, there is no link between the "DMV" and the mental health clinic I visited, besides both being government bodies. I'm honestly not sure how to handle this. I'm very careful never to drive drunk. I turned to professionals to help me work through personal problems, and now my life will be severely impacted from not being allowed to drive. I've just started a new job to help support my parents, I've met a new potential partner who lives a fair bit away, I have pretty hefty car payments that I can't just forgo while I sort out this situation. I've been driving for about 13 years now, clean record, never had an accident, always pay on time, you get the idea... They'll be sending me a letter with more information next week, as far as how to get my licence back. The lady on the phone told me it would take up to 12 months of regular psych visits to prove that my mental health is adequate to drive. I know people who drink and drive. I know people that have been arrested for drunk driving. They still get to drive. I went to medical professionals to help me through personal problems, and now a third party is threatening to revoke my freedom. So much for doctor-patient confidentiality. Do I lawyer up? Thanks again so much for any advice. I definitely needed to vent a bit at least. I'll fight this with every fiber in my body, I'll make it public if I have to. I'm from the large french-speaking province in Canada, if it matters. Apologies if I don't respond this morning, I stayed up very late last night trying to cheer up, so I have to sleep off some of my coping. Thanks so much for being awesome, reddit ~ Cheers ! MIL received letter from SS for underpayment of Widow Benefits(IL) Posted: 01 Sep 2018 07:48 AM PDT My MIL received a letter from social security today stating they had underpaid her by a couple hundred dollars each month on her widows benefits and that moving forward they would be upping the monthly payments by that amount. The question is she has been drawing these benefits for 9 years and there is no mention of there being back pay from the mistake, is this something we should look into, if so how? Thanks! Posted: 01 Sep 2018 06:39 AM PDT I'm going to try to make this as short and sweet as possible because I'm literally trying so hard to find a way out. My son's father pays me $300 a month for child support. He says that since he pays child support, whenever our 19mo son goes to his house on weekends, he does not have to buy him clothing, diapers, wipes, or do anything other than feed him. I this possibly child neglect? Even if it's not child neglect, he tells me constantly he does not have to do anything because he pays me $300 a month (such as make/take him to doctors appointments, or provide him with proper day care). Can I use this as a way to get out of this situation? It's a very abusive situation, my ex will not leave me be, constantly verbally abuses me, allows his girlfriend to bully me about our child, and has told me multiple times that he intends to replace me with her as our son's mother. He has tried to not give our child back as well. I need as much help as I can get. I know I need to go to court but I cannot afford a lawyer. Please give me any advice you can I am desperate. Mum is keeping me without my consent in another country Posted: 01 Sep 2018 09:30 AM PDT This might be a long one but I'll try to shorten it up, sorry. I am going into my senior year of high school on the 4th of September, which is in two days now (I'm 16). However, during summer, my mother proposed to spend the holidays in Singapore. My parents are divorced and my mother has full custody of me while my dad covers all of my living expenses (it is even stated in the court order that he needs to reimburse my mother for every flight we take, whether they are to see him or for holidays without him.) My dad started to run out of money a long time ago, so he can't afford the monthly payments. He has decided to lower it ever so slightly. This year my mother is moving to Singapore, but can't afford to make me study there. Hence I am supposed to stay with my father. Unfortunately since my father doesn't have custody of me, he needs to create a new contract or whatever it is with her so the custody can be transferred. My mother is using me as leverage to get my dad to pay her 15k €. If he doesn't pay up, she keeps me longer in Singapore. We can't afford this. I know the only reason my mother keeps me is because she can't afford not having my dads finances to support her lifestyle. I've seen the emails she writes to my father, and she treats me as cargo that needs shipment overseas. She says if my father pays for my airfare and has me fly over to him without paying up the 15k, she can accuse him of kidnapping. Is this true? Is there a loophole in this kind of situation or am I stuck in my mother's custody until she decides I can go back to school? [link] [comments] |
My neighbor stole $700 from my apartment while I was talking to the cops HE called on me. Posted: 01 Sep 2018 01:24 PM PDT BACKSTORY: (TLDR below) Today I asked my neighbor to take me to the marijuana dispensary like I have several times before. On the way to the dispensary we stopped at my bank so I can withdraw money for rent. We went to the dispensary and I gave them $60 cash and he brought out to eighths of weed. On the way back to our house (basically I live on the first floor and he lives upstairs with a few other people in their own separate rooms all considered different apartments) he was on a phone call with his wife and she was basically saying some bullshit about how I made it so she didn't have cigarettes because we had to go to the dispensary before dropping off cigarettes to her. I got an attitude and basically he pulled over the car, I got out and took the weed that he had just purchased from the dispensary for me and started walking down the street since we are close to the house. He ends up getting out of the car and says you owe me five dollars for gas which, I had promised him, and I said "fuck you" and kept walking. As I got to the house and went inside he pulled up and ended up knocking on my door and I told him to again fuck off through the door. He threatened to beat my ass and then said he was going to call the cops. I told him to go ahead and call the cops, which he did. When the police showed up and knocked on my door the officer came inside and explain to me that my neighbor said I had robbed him of his medicine. I told the officer straight out that I bought weed from him and we done it several times before. I tell him that I threw the marijuana over the back fence of the yard because I was nervous but actually I had flushed it down the toilet. The police officer went back outside to talk to my neighbor and tell him apparently what I had said then the officer returned and said that I might be keeping it in my 'drawer.' Which my neighbor knows where I keep my weed and as of today after the bank my rent money in cash. I open the drawer and show the officer there is no weed in there and he sees the $700 I had just withdrawn from the bank for rent. He asked me to go outside and show him where I threw the weed over the fence. While we were walking outside and into the backyard my neighbor yelled "I'm going to go into your apartment." I yelled back " no you're not"and he repeated "I'm going into your apartment." I turn to the police officer standing not 2 feet from me and said "he said he's going into my apartment can he do that?" The officer said he cannot do that and said show me where you through the weed and we continued into the backyard. After a few seconds of searching for weed and me explaining that I don't know where it is I just threw it back here we walk up to the front to find my neighbor walking out of the house front door. This door is not my apartment door but it's the door that lets you enter the whole house and once you enter that door my door is directly on the left. I don't think anything of my neighbor walking outside of the house considering it's his house too and I continue talking to the officer. The officer tells me to go inside and I do I wait in my living room and open my door and asked the officer "what should I do." He tells me to go back inside. I wait in my living room for a few minutes and overheard my neighbor saying he never has sold me weed or even smoked with me. Even though i have texts and screenshots of him texting me unprovoked about deals at the weed dispensary. I then see that the police officer is walking away so I go into my bedroom where my computer and desk is located to sit down and process what's happening. That's when i noticed that my money in my drawer is missing. I immediately start running towards the front door to trying to catch the police man from driving away but wasn't able to, so I start dialing 911. My neighbor is now getting into his car and I yell "don't leave I'm calling the police you stole my money." Right as the police dispatch pick up he starts pulling away and I explained to her the situation as fast and frantically as I can. She says an officer is already out to the call and i said no its all new call i need him to come back he just pulled away. She said she will send somebody right over, and the same police man that had just left comes back about 10 minutes later. He pulls up and rolls down his window and says "what happened now" and I say "when he said he was going into my apartment he did and he stole my $700." Then as he's getting out of his police vehicle I say "I thought you said he couldn't go in?" The police officer replies "he couldn't" and I replied "well he did and he stole my $700." The officer followed me inside and I show him my empty drawer he hands me a piece of paper and says he will add it to the initial report. I ask if I can fill out a statement he says no there is no need and a detective will call me within the week. Then he left. I've called the landlord and explain the situation she is very reasonable and knows that my neighbor is already in a legal dispute and not a great guy, from her words. I asked her to call him and tell him what I told her, and she did. She called me back a few minutes later and said he denied everything. He even tried to tell her that I don't have a job at the moment and I wasn't able to pay rent, so how would I have that money. Talking to her I believe she is on my side or at least believes me more than him considering i'm being honest and upfront and don't have to come up with some bullshit to cover my ass. The truth is always easier to explain. She says she is willing to be lenient with the rent this month. Ultimately is not doing anything about my neighbor though but "understands." I've texted the neighbor and told him I had the officer come back and spoke to the landlord (this was before she had contacted him). He is already in a legal dispute, so i informed him that over $500 is considered a felony in our state, Rhode Island. He denies taking the money and said that he has texts of him trying to buy weed from me, and i informed him i have screenshot of him sending me weed dispensary prices. He also said i had said a few days ago i didn't have money for weed so how could i have had money for rent? Implying i never even had the cash in the first place. I let him know that i have a paper bank statement from the transaction only hours before, and banks and mostly likely the dispensary has cameras. In addition the officer saw the money when looking through my draw. Lastly as a dick move I called the dispensary and told them he's been selling it illegally. I didn't have his name i just gave the bar code on the weed bag. TLDR: My neighbor called the police on me saying that I stole weed from him. While I was talking to the officer and distracted, my neighbor went into my apartment and stole $700 cash. So my advice that I need is the officer said I could be charged with stealing his "medicine." Do I need a lawyer? I know that Cash is very hard to recover but what are my options? Is my neighbor going to get in trouble for selling me weed from the dispensary? Is saying you're going to go into my house intent enough for and officer to think he went in my home? How can they prove i "stole his weed" and he stole my money? Is the officer at fault at all for telling me to ignore my neighbor saying he will enter my home and then does? It is my fault for being rushed outside by an officer and forgetting to lock my door? Am I in the wrong here? Really not sure what to do or where to go from here. Not even sure the right questions to ask. This is probably the longest post ill ever make and its because i really need some advice on what to do next. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 01 Sep 2018 06:01 AM PDT I manage at a bar in Virginia that's currently short staffed. To keep the place open in September, the owner has spread the remaining employee's hours out pretty thin. In order to schedule me to manage an extra Thursday evening shift and keep me at 40 hours, owner has notified me that he's cutting all hours worked after close from my schedule. Meaning: he will not be paying me for hours worked after the business closes to customers but I'm still responsible for closing duties i.e. breaking down the bar, stocking glassware, sweeping, mopping, prepping for next-day open, cleaning restrooms, trash, etc which is usually an additional hour to two of labor depending on lagging customers and additional cleaning/stocking needs. In addition, I've received complaints from some of my staff that the owner shorted them on their tips for these last pay periods. I dove into the reporting and did the math for the last pay period, and it looks like the owner is not dividing the tip pool on a nightly basis (as I've seen done in the past), but on a pay-period basis. So instead of the weekend staff receiving their tips from the pool of weekend tips and the week-day staff receiving tips from the week-days they worked, the owner is combining all net tips for a two week period then dividing that pool among the employees. I don't know if it's necessarily illegal, but as a manager, I can't say I condone it. My weekend staffers (myself included) give up time with family and friends to work nights and weekends, it stands to reason that they should receive the entirety of their weekend tips and not have to pool those tips with the week-day staff, who generally is tipped less but doesn't have to give up weekends or work late into a hectic Saturday night. I'm almost certain the closing-hours issue violates Virginia overtime laws, and I plan to file a DOLI complaint, but I want to ask reddit if I'm in the right to also include a tipping complaint? TL;DR Owner is shorting staff on closing hours to avoid overtime, and possibly mishandling tip divisions among week-day and weekend employees. Do I have some valid Dept. of Labor complaints on my hands? [link] [comments] |
Late mothers car got towed, but I don't want it back. Posted: 01 Sep 2018 04:57 AM PDT I'm in Southern California and I've found myself in an odd situation. Recently my mother had passed away, she didn't leave much behind but had an old junker jeep. Since the death was recent, I havent bothered to transfer the title or really do anything with it. Now last night it was towed, but the thing is I don't want it back. It doesn't have my name anywhere on it, but I am the next of kin. I know there is a 30 day period the tow company will wait, until they'll sell it. If I just leave the car with them and do nothing, is there anything that can come back to bite me? I'd really just like to be done with it. Thank you! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Sep 2018 12:41 PM PDT My landlord is making it as hard as possible for us to get any money back on our security deposit. The original deposit was $2,000, he took $1,700 and returned $300 to us in the form of 1 check written out to 5 different people, one of which payed none of the original deposit in the first place. He sent this check 27 days passed the 30 day due date in which a security deposit must be returned to tenants. Two of those people no longer live in the state, one of them says it isn't worth it to him to drive back here to cash the check, the other I can't get ahold of at all. How do I go about cashing this check? I've written a letter back asking for the check in a different form but he replied saying he has done all he needs to do and wants no further contact. Landlord is turning my living room into an extra room to rent out[CA] Posted: 31 Aug 2018 10:28 PM PDT Before you keep reading, I live in Ontario, Canada. I rented out a room in a house back in 2012 when I moved towns to go to college. My lease was for 8 months and after it was over I decided to stay. I've been at the same place now for 6 years, month to month. I never signed a new rental agreement after it expired, there was just a verbal agreement between me and my landlord that I would be month to month. During this time we have generally had a good relationship and good living arrangements. The landlord lives in the house with the tenants. She lives upstairs and we live in the basement. There is a shared kitchen and laundry and there is no door separating the upstairs from downstairs. There is a living room upstairs and a small living room downstairs. My landlord said that we dont use it, she texted me first and asked if I would be OK with that idea and I said no. 2 days later I came home from work and all the furniture in the basement was out on the lawn. I texted her and said that I would like her to give me a discount on my rent since she is taking away half my space and she said "you have the option to move out". I'm doing some research right now and I found this which tells me that going month to month after my initial lease is ok and my original arrangement is still in place. Also I also found this http://www.sjto.gov.on.ca/documents/ltb/Brochures/2018%20Rent%20Increase%20Guideline%20(EN).html page of information regarding rental increase guidelines. About 3 years ago there was 1 roommate in the basement who had a heater going in his room 24/7 which drove up the electric bill, when our landlord found out she told us we had to pay for it and increased our rent which was originally agreed in the lease to be $450 a month, up to $500. This was a verbal agreement between us and we didn't have anything in writing. It was inconvenient but it was still relatively cheap, at the time however, I was unaware of what, if any, rights I have as a tenant, according to the landlord and tenant board she cant increase my rent by $50, she would have only been allowed to increase it by 1.6%. So is a verbal agreement still technically legal and final? Is it legal for her to take away and convert our living space and what can I do about it? If the terms of the original agreement are still valid then she has to give me 60 days to move out, should I just look for another place? UPDATE Because I share a kitchen with the LL, I effectively have no protection or right in the RTA, so I will probably have to start looking for somewhere as soon as possible [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Aug 2018 11:57 PM PDT My boyfriend (19M) of 2 years raped me on the morning of August 26th 2018, we live in Texas. Im 17F. Im still distraught about this event & considering suicide. We were laying in bed fully naked, we share a bed & live together; for us this is the normal. I had my back facing him, laying on my right shoulder. He physically pulled me & held me towards his body while he penetrated my vagina, after I clearly & repeatedly told him "I dont want to have sex" he responded with "okay we wont." I continued to say "no, stop, i dont want to have sex" multiple times. He then responded with "We arent having sex, im raping you." I somehow got out of his grip & tried to walk to the kitchen out of the bedroom, but before I could leave he proceeded to bend me over onto the edge of the bed & entered once more. He only stopped when I told him he was hurting me. He didn't finish. I want to take legal action but I am not sure if my case will be taken seriously. I have no proof he raped me. In June, I had the Mirena IUD inserted; and every time we've had consensual sex after the IUD insertation, he's been finishing inside me, consensually. Since he's been ejaculating inside of me for 3 months, Im not sure if a rape kit will be much help in my case. My questions are: How do I go about taking legal action against him? What is the first thing I do? Will my case be taken seriously, even though we are in a relationship and I have no proof of the rape? Is there a time limit for me to report this rape? Thank you for taking the time to read this.. Edit: spelt physically wrong, corrected it Edit#2: Added location [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Sep 2018 09:07 AM PDT They sent a tech out to me on the side of the road he stated that they had left it loose and they would fix it. An investigator for jiffy lube calls me later that day and tell me they have tape of it being tightened. I ask to see the tape he's says I'll need a subpoena. They are going to do nothing!! What do I do?? Can't afford to get a lawyer if I'm going to loose. [link] [comments] |
Truck towed from parking garage and sold at auction Posted: 01 Sep 2018 11:14 AM PDT My brother parked his truck in the parking garage at his friend's apartment complex in Indiana. While visiting his friend, he had a stroke and was hospitalized for over a month. During that time, his truck was towed by the apartment complex. About 3 months after his stroke, he asked me to reach out to the apartment about locating his vehicle, but the apartment complex only gave me a list of several possible towing companies it could have been towed by. I called all of them but none of them were able to account for his vehicle. One of them told me that if it had been over a month, it would have already been sold at auction to cover the cost of storing the vehicle. I am completely at a loss as to what I can do to locate this vehicle. The title was registered to the state of Oregon but it was towed in the state of Indiana. Would there be some kind of paper trail in the title system that I could use to locate who towed the vehicle and sold it? [link] [comments] |
Much needed Divorce questions. Posted: 01 Sep 2018 07:48 AM PDT Hey! Thanks in advance for any advice or ideas. I'll paraphrase alot and if anyone needs more info I'm more then willing to give it. Background about me. Live in Texas, currently no job and very little money. I was medically retired from the Army about a year ago and live off my disability at my wifes parents house to save money and work on doing school. I currently told her I need a few days away from her and went away with friends to figure put what to do.... So earlier this year in March I got married and pretty much its been bad. Things were bad before we got married but I was always making excuses for why she was acting so awful to everyone, me included. She refuses to take responsibility for her actions always making me feel like crap about everything that goes on. No matter how much I do there is always something very wrong and she is gonna make sure I feel like shit over it. Is doesn't matter what the situation is. Telling me my feelings aren't valid cause she doesn't think so. She treats our best friends like shit, lying to them whenever she had an opportunity, and has been caught gaslighting me by her friends. Malingers on health issues and one ups my problems so she can get her way. And just is a storm of constant criticism and malcontent towards everything. All of her friends that have known her for years say she has changed so much in the last few years. It's to the point I don't wanna go out with her, or be around her at the house cause of the attitude and feeling of being around her. I get depressed and anxious when it's me and her cause she gets so mad about nothing and makes it such and issue. Without a doubt she has turned this part of my life into one of the worse, just cause how she acts all the time. Now. Legal. I need to know if any of these situations could lead to serious legal action being taken against me and how I should prepare for it. Her and her mom put together a very big wedding, I did not want it and protested many different things about it in the name of saving money. They didn't wanna listen and now that our marriage is falling apart within months I'm not sure how this is gonna go. I kmow it was alot of money for them and I don't want it to be wasted but I also can't do this anymore... They also gave me a very old truck for free, that I turned the deed over and now cover all the costs of repair on. But also could break for good at any moment. We have no shared assets, only a savings bank account that I can just be taken off of. I don't care about anything at the house besides my documents and a few select items that she wouldn't want even if they were free. I am going back to their house on monday and plan on slowly starting to pack my things and hopefully sometime this week there'll be a moment when I tell her im moving out and gonna figure out what to do from there. But at that point my mind will be made and ill be working on getting papers filed. Cause I just wanna leave, I don't care about anything we have I just can't stand to be around such negative and mean behavior and people anymore. I really need advice on if the wedding costs, truck or anything can come back to haunt me. I also need go know what steps I can take to make this less painful. i just wanted the quick easy and cheapest option here to escape this hell. My mental health isn't the best and I can't handle this to go bad right now. Thanks again. Have a great day [link] [comments] |
