I'm running into this brush off more and more in some way shape or form. I have some success in taking the conversation further when I point out that we are niche provider and the need usually drives the relationship. But trying to find better ways..since the veterans here must know better .. any thouths are appreciated.

Third interview, asked to create 30/60/90 plan... please help!

    Posted: 25 Sep 2018 10:54 AM PDT

Hello guys! I have my third interview for a small tech company that I'm really excited about. The hiring manager asked me to create a 30/60/90 plan in regards to what I need to succeed during my first three months. I have never created one of these plans, and my research is producing different information. What are some do's and do nots for this plan? I want to make sure that this is done well, as this would be my first big break.

I'm fumbling inbound leads - how do you guys follow up?

    Posted: 25 Sep 2018 10:09 AM PDT

I'm getting emails and form-opt-ins on my website as well as referrals from small business owners.

People even sometimes book a time, and send an email asking when we can meet.

However, when I go for first opening email with an up-front contract saying that I'd like to learn more about what they have going on and their goals with a email typed by me - I gets ignored and meetings get missed.

It was a feat to get these incoming leads.
Do I just keep following up until they say otherwise? Do I put them in my drip campaign and wait until they book a time?

My top competitor met up with us undercover

    Posted: 25 Sep 2018 01:36 AM PDT

It was 2 months ago, a prospect was into making music (I'm in the music education business) and being involved with our product, the prospect had a good look at the place, did out entrance exams and one of our advisors talked to him about a standalone course which he wanted. He wasn't interested in taking a full on program (which contains more courses and information) My boss called his number after not answering me nor my co worker for a month or more, and found out that they are our competitors. I was planning on doing so also(to know my competition) But now its even more difficult to do so... Should I even go and visit my competitors after all of this or is it too late? The thing is that i know my business offers more value and a comfortable price, I want to see how they sale and behave towards their prospects Is it too late to visit them?

First sales job: Making $300 a week no commission

    Posted: 24 Sep 2018 03:21 PM PDT

Recently moved to Miami to work in the fintech industry providing working capital. I started learning things very quickly and had my first deal get funded my second week. That was when I was told that the commission I was promised is won't come for 6 months. The only pay is $300 a week for 60 hours of work. Is this pretty common in the world of sales to be paid under minimum wage at the start? I really love sales but the salary is unsustainable.

Edit: quick note, 19 years old took time off college to try to earn some money to support my family. The company flew my out to Miami and provides room and board

If you can pick any sales job what would it be and why ?

    Posted: 25 Sep 2018 01:52 AM PDT

I have 7 years of successful B2B sales experience and am looking to make a change and am struggling to decide what field would be best. Help me.

Backstory : I left my long term job last year to pursue an opportunity at a small family owned business. They didn't really want to change anything about their business like they had originally said they asked/ begged me to come on board. We went our separate ways and it's an amazing opportunity to try something new.

    Managing Channel Partners

    Posted: 24 Sep 2018 12:13 PM PDT

    Hey folks,

I'm in education and my company is bringing in a new channel partner to increase the size of our sales force. I get the joy of managing this new team.

They've got a VP, two sales managers, some marketing people, and about 25 reps across Canada (I'm Canadian).

Does anyone have any advice or feedback on their own experiences with this? How did you manage to navigate the partnership and how did you refocus yourself to provide enablement support?

Non-Compete Agreements in Sales Job Offers

    Posted: 24 Sep 2018 03:02 PM PDT

I recently got a job offer at a SaaS company as an SDR. I've been looking over the job offer and there is non-compete/non-solicitation section. How standard is it for sales organizations to have this kind of thing in their contract, and to what extent is it enforceable? Would they be able to prevent me from working at other software companies, even if their product is not a direct competitor, or is it generally nothing to worry about?

    Explain sales

    Posted: 24 Sep 2018 04:32 PM PDT

Hey there, I was wondering if someone can explain sales to me but more specifically B2B sales. I'm not sure how account managers come in or how does it differ from territorial sales. Like is the account manager the same thing as the actual salesperson?

    Thanks!

    Trade show advice

    Posted: 24 Sep 2018 05:29 PM PDT

Hey r/sales! Today I found out that I'll being going to my first trade show in a few weeks! For obvious reasons I'd prefer to leave details vague, but the company I work for sells software into the healthcare space (mostly small private practices).

All I've ever done is inside sales, so cold calling and getting rejected feels right at home, but I'd like some advice from veteran sales people who have been to trade shows before.

I want to crush my first show, so any advice on how to approach this new challenge would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks all! Let's finish this month strong!

    Glassdoor Reviews and Realism

    Posted: 25 Sep 2018 12:38 AM PDT

Long story short, received an offer for an AE role at Darktrace which is in the cyber security field using AI. The Glassdoor reviews are a solid mix of 1 star STAY AWAY or AMAZING OPPORTUNITY/SALES IS WHAT YOU MAKE OF IT.

It's pretty much split in the middle, but I'm weary of the negative reviews. For those who were unsure of companies with low(ish) Glassdoor reviews, how did it turn out? How realistic are the negative reviews? How realistic are the positive reviews?

I've interviewed with people in their office, but they're not going to bag on their company during an interview.

Any advice would be appreciated especially those with knowledge of Darktrace or experiences with Glassdoor and comparing offers with different companies. Thank you!

edit: I'm assuming the downvotes are current managers or employees. Maybe instead of downvoting, comment something productive to add to the conversation? The Glassdoor reviews aren't going away.

Anyone ever sell solar and roofs?

    Posted: 24 Sep 2018 06:38 PM PDT

    Hi all,

I sell solar door to door, and am trying to also sell roofs along with solar. Wondering if anyone has done this, and how it has managed with time? Insurance adjusters, I also have free solar leads that are scheduled at random. How all this works time wise. If its even possible.

Favorites earbuds (not headsets!) for making calls on the go?

    Posted: 24 Sep 2018 08:05 PM PDT

Would love to be able to use my jabra elite wireless for calls but mic noise cancellation isn't too hot. I'm fine with going corded even if it means a mic that does a great job isolating my voice for the other caller

Entry Level B2B - Take what I can get? Or be a choosing beggar.

    Posted: 24 Sep 2018 01:49 PM PDT

    Hi friends!

I'm currently looking to change industries and get into B2B sales. Specifically SaaS.

I currently only have a year of experience in sales. 8 months in car sales and 4 months as a F&I manager. I graduated college but it is no way related to any business positions.

I've been looking around for about 3-4 weeks now for entry level b2b positions and have been having a hard time landing an interview.

I had a phone interview today and landed a 2nd interview. It's with a marketing group as a field sales representative. The rep focuses on this certain tobacco brand and will be dealing with 8-12 gas stations. They are required to maintain relationship with the owners and educating staff about the products.

Base is 43K and Commission/Bonuses will be discussed in the 2nd interview.

As I'm trying to move my career in a path to SaaS, should I grab the first b2b that is offered to me? I have no b2b experience so I feel like that hinders my chances of landing an interview at any SaaS company. So I'm not sure if I should go into the first opportunity presented in order to gain experience or wait a little bit to see what else comes up. Any insight is appreciated!

    Trouble Overcoming an Objection

    Posted: 24 Sep 2018 02:37 PM PDT

    Hello Fellow Reddit Salespeople!

I sell marketing and advertising solutions (new customers) to SMBs via cold calling and get a ton of brush-offs, stalls and objections on a daily basis. One of the more common brush-offs/objections

I've been getting these days is "I'm booked out/can't take on new customers" or "I already have enough business." This is usually on the first cold call, anywhere between 5 seconds and 3 minutes into the conversation.

I'm aware this is a bunch of BS (how many times have you been turned away by a business you were newly patronizing?) and is most likely a smokescreen shrouding a real objection. I am just not sure how to go about handling this without calling out these prospects on their lie (doesn't create any value) or ignoring it and continuing to establish credibility with value (doesn't show the prospect that you're listening).

Does anyone have any good advice for handling these and pushing to the next part of the sales process?

    Thank you!

I think I’m about to be laid off. Wwyd?

    Posted: 24 Sep 2018 05:50 PM PDT

Anonymous account for obvious reasons. I just saw my company posted an open position for my territory a few days ago, so I think the writing is on the walls. Do you think this could mean something else?

I was the top rep in Northern CA at my last company, out of about 20 people. Plateaued and wanted to move into the major leagues if you will.

Joined this new company about 2 months ago and was their first hire in a long time without industry experience or an engineering background. I had a lot of success in past sales jobs and school so they took a chance on me.

Rode with my boss last week, and he was very disappointed with how little knowledge I had of the equipment. I'm across the country from him and only trained with him a few days, outside of a few training videos. Been trying to study videos online, read trade articles, and anything else I could find, while making sure to still blast my territory hard.

He was really disappointed and now I'm a little concerned. Took a big risk coming to this company, with so much respect and success at my last job.

If anybody in the San Francisco Bay Area knows of sales executive opportunities, please let me know. I'm up to grab a coffee and discuss.

How to break into an SE role while being remote?

    Posted: 24 Sep 2018 05:49 PM PDT

I'm trying to take my selling skill set to the next level. Over the past years in my company I've gone from Isr / SDR / BdR to small deal AE to technical writing (Rfp's etc) and everything in between.

After we were acquired a few years ago I learned about the world of sales engineering / solutions engineering and was interested immediately. However, I think I lack the technical side of things. What are some good ways for myself to either A) convince someone to take a chance on me or B) begin building a skill set on my downtime that would line up more with your standard SE role?

One more layer of things is I recently bought a house where I'm at, which isn't in a city. It's a decently sized town of around 80,000 meaning there's not a crazy amount of jobs I could see myself doing here. How feasible is this kind of role as a remote employee in the best possible situation? How about in my situation?

    Thanks in advance.

So here's the back story: took a job with a new staffing agency in my town to head up sales ina very niche area: UX aka not selling the farm when prospecting: its been two months and no serious bites. Truth be told, struggling a little bit as I was top sales person at the previous firm. Though I believe that being niche is important: Any suggestions welcome!
