Anyone ever hire someone to take their business to the "next level"? Posted: 06 Sep 2018 02:49 PM PDT I am 9 years into my service business. Started with me and one other person each having our own route. Gross sales 186k first year, and now have 19 employees and over 2 million in gross sales. I have come to hate employees and customers alike. They exhaust me. I feel like I have given everything I have to get to this point. There is not much I like about my career any longer other then the money. I used to enjoy a new challenge and to always be finding a new service or product to offer. Now I just count the money and cringe every time my phone rings. This is not healthy and I know it. I also know I am leaving a lot on the table because I still have several areas to expand into and ideas of how to do it. I have promoted worthy people to management roles and crew leader roles but I don't have that one person that can just take something and run with it like I did. I am just about to turn 40 so selling and starting over or being partially retired does not seem appealing to me. I have been thinking about bringing someone in that is capable of pushing growth and expansion. I feel like it would need to be someone I know as I don't think I could trust a newcomer to do so. I actually have someone in mind who may fit the bill. I know I am complacent at this point and I've been that way for about a year now. I'm not sure if I need a shrink or a general manager. Anyone ever find themselves in a similar spot? Did it work? What went right and what went wrong? Did you have to give more then you should to hire that person? [link] [comments] |
Has anyone used affiliate links to promote their business online? Posted: 07 Sep 2018 04:38 AM PDT Anyone with experience using affiliate links to promote their business? (self.Entrepreneur) submitted 16 hours ago by evilblackdog I reached out to a popular industry blog and they said that they'd like to do an affiliate link. I asked them what % they were looking to get and they said they were doing 10% with two of my competitors. If you've used affiliate links how have they worked for you? Should I offer the same as my competitors or should I offer more in an attempt to get them to favor my products? Offer 12%? 15%? [link] [comments] |

Curious about Google Business Response protocol Posted: 07 Sep 2018 03:52 AM PDT I work for marketing in a wedding photography / videography company. We recently got a bad review claiming we never made their product. If I type up a response and include a link to the video proving we did (this video is publicly available and the client shared it, a lot), will this be against googles guidelines for responses? What freebies to have on a show stand? Posted: 07 Sep 2018 03:49 AM PDT Going to an interior design show in a couple of weeks time, don't want our stand to look like a uni fair mess, is there anything we can give away that isn't too expensive, but is nice/luxury/practical etc? So far we have sweets, which I'm not a fan of, but I don't know what else could draw people in.. tl:dr - what can we give away to bring people in at an interior design expo? [link] [comments] |

Can I register my business in a state I don’t live in? Posted: 06 Sep 2018 06:30 AM PDT My online company is an LLC based in Virginia that's taxed as an s corp. I've moved to Pennsylvania and started a side business here. For tax reasons, it would be best if I could just file my side business as a "Doing Business As/fictitious name" entity of my Virginia LLC instead of creating a separate LLC in Pennsylvania. The nature of my side business makes it very obvious I'm not doing business in Virginia, so is it legal for me to do this? [link] [comments] |
Bit of a Newb Question - Paying Corporation Tax (UK) Posted: 07 Sep 2018 01:50 AM PDT When paying corporation tax as a Limited Company, do I pay it from the business's own account, or my personal account? When I was a sole trader, I put aside income into a separate personal savings account for tax purposes. When it came to paying tax, I transferred the money to HMRC directly from that savings account. Now I'm operating as a limited company, I'm just wondering where to pay corporation tax from. Does it matter? If I pay it from the business account, is it a tax deductible expense? That sounds kind of silly, but worth knowing. Either way, how would it be declared on the books? Simply as corporation tax? Thanks [link] [comments] |

How do you pivot when your product has been banned? (Hypothetical) Posted: 06 Sep 2018 08:13 PM PDT Imagine you run a thriving business selling exotic imported perfumes and fragrances for example. You wake up to the news that the importation of these kinds of items has been banned. As a business owner, how would you pivot? [link] [comments] |
Are art representatives still a thing? Posted: 06 Sep 2018 08:05 PM PDT Hi, I'm an artist and I've been selling prints or merch and even custom paintings while I'm working at my day job. I was wondering if art representives/agents were still a thing(whatever you want to call it), more specifically online. Is it possible to get someone to do the marketing for me and increase sales/leads connect me to more clients in return I offer 10%-20% profit for each sale? I simply don't have time or the best marketing skills and I could really use some guidance on this. [link] [comments] |
Question for CPA's who own a small accounting business Posted: 06 Sep 2018 07:30 PM PDT When you created your business (LLC assumed here), did you have to file as a PLLC as a professional and obtain malpractice insurance and all that. In this situation I will be performing accounting functions such as financial statement creation (for internal use not publicly filed), workpaper packages, internal control reviews, some consulting. Again, all of this to be used internally. I am trying to understand if work like this falls under the umbrella of 'Public Accounting' which would consider my LLC a restricted professional entity and has a whole set of other requirements to file with the state, I am of course not going to be auditing or providing actual assurance functions. I would of course prefer to file as a normal LLC, but I want to make sure I do what is correct. Any insight is appreciated, Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Sep 2018 07:09 PM PDT Moved to a different part of Oregon and also working onsite in California. I am calling CPAs in Oregon but so far I haven't had the warm and fuzzies. One CPA told me to email him my tax returns and I did, but have not heard back from him after multiple calls. Another also asked me to email my tax returns to her but I wrote down her email wrong or something. Is emailing tax returns to a CPA without a contract or retainer in place normal? How did you find your CPA? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Sep 2018 03:21 PM PDT Okay, so one of my dreams has been to open a hobby and collectibles shop centered around Dungeons and Dragons, and Trading Card Games such as Magic the Gathering and Yu-Gi-Oh. How would I go about contacting vendors and securing the required permits? [link] [comments] |
Partner program — Advice on managing. Posted: 06 Sep 2018 06:45 PM PDT Was recently asked to start this partner program for work. (a telecom company) Basically, I meet with individuals and discuss signing up as an agent. The only expectation is to refer business to us. If the referral turns into a deal, they will receive a kickback plus recurring revenue for the term of the contract. In the first month I received 2 referrals that turned into deals. (Which is great) Im heading into month 3 with 11 agents. Im not seeing a lot of activity. Whats the best way to see results and manage these partnerships without being too pushy? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 06 Sep 2018 05:23 PM PDT Is there any business I could start for 100$ while in college? It would be something I would only be able to do part time as I am busy with classes. I would like to do something online as long as it is not drop shipping or t shirts I do not see how I could make money with those business models. [link] [comments] |
Looking for information on having an e-commerce site built Posted: 06 Sep 2018 04:25 PM PDT Hey guys, just wondering what a realistic price is for an e-commerce site and if you can point me in the direction of a good website designer. Thanks. [link] [comments] |
biz naming help / feedback part 2.. Posted: 06 Sep 2018 03:22 PM PDT Hi guys , so .. I asked a question in your fine subreddit not long ago, and after perusing the responses, decided "patient geek" or some variation was the way to go for my small, end-user focused tech support biz (geared towards tutoring people - perhaps in particular older, less digitally native people, to become better friends with their computers and have more efficient workflows.)
Now, I'm redoing my web presence and trying to figure out a good address. thepatientgeek[dot]com is already someone else's property.. as is patientgeek[dot]com , so i was trying to think of the best alternatives. patientgeektech? this sounds very wordy to me.. patientgeektechsupport .. still wordy.. yourpatientgeek .. corny, but perhaps memorable.. are there other options? maybe you can think outside the box better than I can right now..
Any ideas? thanks a bunch in advance ! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Sep 2018 12:31 PM PDT So a local business to me ran a promotion on Instagram ( https://i.imgur.com/1Zldf28.jpg ) and the prize is $200 and a job with them. Basically, anyone could win, would they be obligated to hire some random crack head that won? Aside from a bad idea and almost certainly a rigged raffle, would this even be legal? He's not my competition per se, but we're in adjacent industries so a lot of my customers have been talking about the last week or so. edit: For that matter could I auction off a salary position at MY shop?
