Socal AAA won't continue my umbrella policy because one of the rental unit is not with AAA. However, socal AAA does not provide rental insurance. Does anyone know what is the best option to do? So far AAA provides me the best insurance rate for my home and auto

I was in a car accident this morning, I was not at fault. I am not sure what to do next and there are several details adding to my confusion.

    Posted: 02 Aug 2018 05:02 PM PDT

Hey there, I posted this on r/legaladvice earlier and it was recommended I might post it here too since many of my questions are based on insurance details. Thanks in advance for taking a look, original text as follows:

I apologize if this has been answered elsewhere and I would greatly appreciate being pointed to that. I searched here and a few other subreddits and couldn't find any answers to my specific issues.

This is the first accident I've ever been in. I'll try to include all the details as briefly as I can.

I was hit by a van for a heating company that ran a red light this morning. I had a green light and was just pulling into the intersection when the van came hurtling at me and hit my car and the pickup truck next to me. We all were able to pull our vehicles off the road and exchanged information. I was very shook up, naturally, but I managed to get the insurance company name and the policy number from the driver that hit me. I also took pictures of the vehicles, his licence plate, his insurance card, his licence, and his vehicle title which he had on hand. He also gave me his company name and their phone number. Both the other drivers were predominantly Spanish speaking and I only speak English, so I tried to do my best to make sure we were calm and spoke slowly and did our best to understand each other and I figured I should get as much info as possible. I also had two other people that were not involved in the accident but witnessed it all give me their names and phone numbers as well, thankfully.

Now then, here are the details since the wreck that I'm still sorting through:

The accident happened in Portland, Oregon. I called the police who told me that they didn't need to come to the scene and no police report needed to be filed since it wasn't a hit and run and no one was injured immediately. They told me I need to file a report with the DMV, which I plan to do tomorrow.

Now, the car I was driving is my grandfathers. He is on the title, and he is on the insurance. He lives in Montana while I live in Oregon. My mother is trying to help me with talking to our insurance as my grandpa has become less sound of mind due to Alzheimer's since giving me the car. I called my insurance company who told me to talk to the other driver's company and to file a claim with them. I did so, filed the claim, and was told they would call me back to take a statement and move forward once they'd talked to the insured driver.

The tow truck driver picked me up, took me to a body shop, and the body shop and tow truck driver both agreed my car would likely be totaled since the damage done will probably cost more to fix than what they estimate the value of the car is. They did this basically by looking at it. They both told me the best option would be for me to take my car home and park it there and wait for the insurance company to get ahold of me.

Meanwhile, I no longer have a vehicle, which I need to get to work. I have also missed a day of work today as a result of being hit. I have kept my receipt from the tow truck and plan to keep any other receipts related to this. I have scheduled a doctors appointment to make sure I'm okay a couple days from now, though I feel okay now I know many people complain they don't experience the extent of their injuries from an accident until the next day or even later. I have several questions, so I figure I will just list them:

Am I entitled to a rental car to be payed for from the other driver's insurance? I need transportation to get to and from work. How do I go about making sure this happens if I am entitled?

If the other insurance company tells me they want to total my car and offer me a sum of money I don't think is correct, what are my options? Can I make them repair my car or replace it with the same make and model?

I realized after the fact that I did not get any information from the driver of the pickup truck that was also hit, except for his name and phone number. Do I need any information from him and if so should I contact him directly for it?

What else do I need to do that I haven't? Does it seem I've missed any important or critical details?

    Question about emergency room visits

    Posted: 02 Aug 2018 12:03 PM PDT

If my mental health was suffering and I needed to visit the emergency room to treat my condition, once they send me the bill assuming they successfully treated my condition, will insurance like Medicaid or Medicare pay for the visit ? I also was wondering if there is any government insurance that can pay for me seeing a new psychiatrist. i'm sorry, i just don't understand anything about health insurance.

My car was hit while parked last night by a neighbor. Another neighbor witnessed and informed me who did it.

    Posted: 02 Aug 2018 07:50 PM PDT

I haven't filed a claim in a very long time and would be grateful for some advice.

Oregon driver here. This morning I was informed by my next door neighbor that he witnessed my car being backed into last night by another neighbor in our parking lot. A sizable dent was left in the trunk. The only reason he saw it was he heard the crunch and then looked to see what happened. He added that the driver looked at the trunk to assess the damage, and then looked up at the residential windows and saw the witnessing neighbor looking down at him. i.e. the driver that hit my car saw that he was being witnessed.

The driver that hit my car hasn't made any attempt to take responsibility by leaving a note on the car, knocking on my door (I was home when it happened last night). It would seem he also knows he was witnessed.

The advice I've gotten from my insurance company is NOT to talk to him about this, but to file a police report. That way a record trail is established which could help in establishing that I had no part in this. And it puts me in a better position if I decided to pursue a civil case for reimbursement of damages.

    Two questions:

    1. Should this claim be filed with my insurance or with the neighbor's? (If he agrees to it)

    2. Advice on how to approach this? My inclination would normally be to try to work this out with my neighbor before going to the police, which seems an antagonistic action between neighbors that have otherwise been friendly to this point (Save the part where he damaged my car and did nothing about it)

EDIT: Maybe I should have framed this differently. My main question is should I involve the police - would a police report help with the claims process?

    An interesting Insurance liability question.

    Posted: 02 Aug 2018 03:57 PM PDT

The car in front of me on the high way had something stuck under his car he had run over. He cut in front of me to pull over and when he did the thing flew out. Went airborne and did about $3000 worth of damage to my MINI Countryman. I have it all on dash cam. We both stopped. We both left. So now I am thinking my insurance will cover my damages but I have to pay my deductible. $1000. Is this guy who was in front of me liable for my damages?

    Get mass quotes

    Posted: 02 Aug 2018 02:51 PM PDT

Hello all, I apologize if this is the wrong place to post this. If so, please direct me to the right sub Reddit. I am interested in an App or website that allows me to put all the information needed to get car and home insurance quotes from multiple insurance providers simultaneously. I just tried EverQuote but all they did was direct me to each providers site to re type all the information again without giving a quote. Does such an App or website exist?

Can I request payout from guilty party’s insurance or does it have to go directly from the insurance company to my medical bills?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2018 06:36 PM PDT

I was in an accident in May. The other party has accepted full liability for the incident. She was underinsured so my insurance has been footing the bill for my medical bills and for the value of my car. I sustained serious injuries and am still in rehab to relearn to walk. It has been a miserable experience. I have been without an income since the accident and have racked up close to a million dollars in medical bills. I will require Home therapy for some time after I leave the rehab facility. I will also require building a sidewalk and ramp into my home, wheelchair, hospital bed and the cost of home therapy. The guilty party has 100k that her insurance will pay out. The agent asked me for my medical bills so he could put that money toward them. I however would like to receive the money and use it how I want. The home health care alone may use the bulk of it. My question is: is there a requirement that the insurance give the money to the hospital or can it be paid to me directly?

Got in a car accident, have questions

    Posted: 02 Aug 2018 01:12 PM PDT

    Long story short.

I got in a car accident

I took it to a shop that repaired it

Not long after it is making unpleasant noises.

Went back to the shop, they told me it's mechanical and I should take it to the dealer.

They said if the dealer determines it is related to the accident I should pay for the fix and then the shop will help me get reinbursed from my insurance company.

Is this the best course of action or is there something that would be better for me?

    Auto Insurance Question (Truthfulness) [CANADA]

    Posted: 02 Aug 2018 10:47 AM PDT

    Hello r/insurance,

My SO recently was in an at-fault collision (less than 3000$ in damages) and we immediately started shopping for new insurance companies as my SO's company told her that they would be increasing her rate upon renewal.

We found multiple companies while my SO's car was being repaired and were truthful about a previous speeding ticket and an active at fault claim. Each company offered us a quote.

Eventually we found a company that was "technologically advanced" and had us enter our drivers license #'s and it would do a search for all priors & gather information. It at no point asked us if either of us were in a collision, but did ask us about the previous speeding ticket and required us to verify which month it was incurred.

It ultimately gave us the cheapest rate, we chose this company and have the insurance starting in approximately two weeks. We assume that the system didn't detect the collision as the previous company still had the claim open and might not have it listed "publicly?". However, I don't want to feel like a dumb-ass calling the company saying "Did you know about X?" and I also don't want to shoot myself in the foot per se by increasing my rate for their lack of knowledge/not providing us an opportunity to disclose an accident during sign-up.

For reference this company is "Sonnet."

    What should we do?

Others have noted that the company will likely do another scan of our information upon renewal next year and then will increase our rate. Our fear is that they deny us a claim should we get in accident...

    Thanks.

    Recommendations for short-term medical plans

    Posted: 02 Aug 2018 04:41 PM PDT

I have a client who is looking for a short-term medical plan for his adult son in California for just this month. The two companies we used to use stopped offering short-term medical and I'm not sure which companies to recommend now. I haven't been doing much individual, so this hasn't come up for a while.

I've left messages for a couple of my reps, but don't expect to hear back today since it's nearly 5. Any help would be appreciated.

Brother moved first time, needs help finding insurance. I told him Reddit could help!

    Posted: 02 Aug 2018 04:27 PM PDT

Brother is 32, moved to the Hilton Head area in SC. 1 bedroom apartment , lives by himself, Subaru personal car.

What type of renters/car insurance should he look for? Anything he should be sure not to miss (hurricane, flood, etc) or he can turn down extras? Any ideas on a price range would be super helpful and/or companies to use/avoid.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! He moved out of state for the first time and I'm trying to be a good little brother.

Insurance Being Canceled Because Roof is In Poor Condition But They Never Actually Inspected It?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2018 12:39 PM PDT

    Is this common?

    Bought the home in June.

Home inspector said the roof was in good condition, was actually up on it. It's 12 years old.

All the insurance company did was a walk around the house and are basing the cancellation on that.

    Is that typical?

Other insurance accepted liability, go through other insurance or my insurance?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2018 11:52 AM PDT

Hello, I am a new car owner and recently in my first ever accident. The other persons insurance (State Farm) accepted full liability for the accident. My insurance (AAA) gave me a call and asked me whether I would like to go through my insurance (AAA) or their insurance (State Farm) for the repairs. What should I do in this scenario? Thanks!

As a surgeon, how do I insure my hands?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2018 03:23 PM PDT

As a heart surgeon who just started his career, I believe it is very reasonable to insure my hands. A trivial tendonitis of my index finger could literally end my career as an active practitioner.

I am VERY surprised that the Internet has very scarce information to help myself get started. Most my Google results turn out to be posts making fun of celebrities insuring their waist sizes.

Please help me. Thank you Reddit.

Insurance refusing to replace car seats after car accident - NY Central

    Posted: 02 Aug 2018 03:01 PM PDT

I read a previous post and responses about this. Someone had posted an executive service line...anyone have one for NY Central Mutual?
They appear to be positioning to refuse to replace our car seats after an accident.

I did see a recommendation for a demand letter and will try that as well. The car was technically able to be driven away but was declared a total loss, one side is entirely smashed in. Severe enough that I would not be comfortable using the seats.

Prior experience with this company were good, but they must've undergone a change. The service is horrible this time around.

    Thank you for any help.

I keep getting bills for a hospital visit that I paid for last year, insurance company told me to ignore them

    Posted: 02 Aug 2018 02:58 PM PDT

Sorry if it sounds like I don't really know what's going on, I'm covered under my parents' insurance and this is the first time I've ever had an issue.

Last year, I met my deductible for my health insurance. So, after a hospital visit last year that was over $1000, I only had to pay around $300

This year (so, a year after I paid my copay for that visit) they sent me another bill for $400. I immediately contacted my insurance company about it because I'd already paid the copay for this visit.

They were confused, it took the person I talked to 45 minutes to figure out why I was even being charged again. It turns out, when they hospital reported the charges to my insurance last year, they had made a mistake and it turned out that I owed more than what they originally reported.

The representative told me that since it was the hospital's mistake, I wasn't liable to pay that extra cost and they already covered it.

When they covered it the insurance company actually accidentally overpaid them but they just let that be.

Now there's this bill for $400 for apparent lab work that I never received the results from and didn't actually consent to at the hospital. They just came in and took my blood and left, didn't even speak to me, I had no idea why they were taking my blood. I guess I should note that this visit was for mental health issues and I was very much out of it. I assumed later that they may have done it because I have a thyroid condition, but usually my lab work for my thyroid panels is around $30, not $400.

My insurance company couldn't even figure out why they were still trying to charge me when they covered it. You can even see that on the bill they sent me. They charged my insurance company an extra $800 for the lab work, they covered it and then this $400 appears out of nowhere.

The representative told me that they would contact the hospital to deal with it. He said I wouldn't have to pay anything and to just ignore the bills, he said if I did end up having to pay anything, it would be a small amount.

He said that if there was an issue, they would call me. I never received a follow-up call that there was an issue where it wouldn't be covered so I figured I should just ignore the bills like they said.

But now the hospital has sent three bills for that $400 amount since I spoke to my insurance company, they even tried to call me a few times. They threatened in the bill that if I didn't pay, I'd be sent to collections.

I'm not sure what to do...my insurance company said they had it handled. It seems like the hospital is getting more aggressive since my insurance company contacted them.

EDIT: if this is the wrong place for a post like this, can y'all please redirect me because I don't really know where it would be better to post?

    Cobra and secondary insurance

    Posted: 02 Aug 2018 08:17 AM PDT

So my wife and I are in a confusing and frustrating situation and I was hoping someone might know what we need to do to get this sorted out.

Background: I changed jobs back in September 2017 and the new job didn't have the same insurance (old insurance was Kaiser and new insurance was Anthem). My wife was 6 months pregnant at the time and went to several doctors under the new insurance to try to find someone she liked. After a dozen or so doctor's appointments we decide that her doctor at Kaiser was better than any of them and so we enrolled her in Cobra on my old employers insurance. From then till the baby was born we were enrolled in Cobra and went to Kaiser and everything was fine.

Present problem: Now we get a bunch of letters from Anthem saying that they aren't covering the dozen or so visits she made to other doctors before we enrolled in Cobra. Apparently Cobra backdates and Kaiser was then the primary insurance and Anthem was the secondary. None of these dozen doctors were covered by Kaiser but Anthem is claiming they need Kaiser to formally respond to some letters they've sent to Kaiser or my wife and I will be responsible for the full amount. We've both called Anthem, Kaiser, and the doctors offices multiple times and each time we get told something completely different. It seems like Anthem is trying to wiggle their way out of paying for something they are supposed to cover.

Does anyone know the best way to handle this?

TLDR: Insurance company is trying to make us pay for what they should have covered. Help!

Adjuster said I would receive offer late next week, or early the week of 7/30, no offer yet?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2018 06:13 AM PDT

    Hello,

Adjuster said I would receive an offer "later next week, or early in the week of 7/30" and it is now the latter part of the week of 7/30.

Should I follow up with an email? I do not want to bother them, as I realize they are doing their job. But I am just days away from having about 12K go to collections in my name for an accident I didn't cause.

    Thank you.
