What car insurance company doesn't count accidents >3 years in the quote?

    Posted: 02 Jul 2018 11:06 PM PDT

I had an accident a little over three years ago and I remember quote shopping after my accident. Most insurance companies ask if you've had an accident in the last 5 years but only ONE I looked at asked if there was an accident in the last 3 years. Does anyone know what insurance company this is?

Best way to get a 19yo insured after ex-husband's COBRA ends for her....

    Posted: 03 Jul 2018 04:34 AM PDT

My 19yo lives with me and soon will have no health insurance. She also has no job or money either. To put her on my COBRA is over $450 a month and is just too much, what is the best way for her to get coverage cheaper. She doesn't go to doctors or take medication at all really, but still one major thing. Is there such a thing as just major medical insurance like there used to be before ACA came about? Also, if she lives with me, but has no money or job yet (working on it), can she qualify for Medicaid based on that, or is it totally on household income because she lives here. I don't actually get that too. I'm required to pay her health insurance just because she lives with me because her dad won't anymore?

    FLASH Application California

    Posted: 03 Jul 2018 12:05 AM PDT

Hello, I'm currently filling out my FLASH application for P&C license in California. It says to list full time, part time, unemployment etc. I worked for Door Dash and Postmates doing food delivery for a while. This might sound sort of dumb but how do I account for those types of jobs? I don't want to delay the application process. They are a 1040 tax for (self-employment). I also filed for a LLC that didnt workout to start a business in the state of CA in January.

Will policy holder get rate increase if insurance company settles?

    Posted: 02 Jul 2018 06:50 PM PDT

Two years ago a texting driver plowed though a red light and totaled my vehicle. No witnesses stopped so she conveniently claimed the light was yellow and got away with it. I've spent the past several years dealing with the injuries from the accident and recently found a well established law firm that is willing to take the case. I'm assuming that it would likely be settled out of court. My question is whether or not she will be notified if her insurance company settles before a lawsuit is filed and also if she would be considered responsible if her insurer chooses to settle. It shouldn't matter to me but it would at least bring me a small amount of comfort to know that this individual will suffer consequences for her reckless behavior.

Liability of having father's vehicle on my policy?

    Posted: 02 Jul 2018 08:11 AM PDT

I have my auto insurance through Allstate as do my parents. When I called to ask about coverage on my vehicle to make sure I wasn't paying more than I needed to (over-insuring a 16 year old, $2000 car) the agent/receptionist told me I could save money by adding a second vehicle to get a multi-vehicle policy discount. She stated that I could move my father's vehicle (paid off, liability only) and move it to my plan and it would make my plan cheaper, as well as theirs. Now of course, I'm the only driver on my policy though, but we made this change a few months back.

Recently my girlfriend has made it a point to inform me of how she's pretty sure I could be held liable if he were in a major accident in the vehicle on my policy and it was above the coverage maximums etc.

My question is, am I opening myself to un-necessary liability in this manner?

Does collision car insurance cover me for this???

    Posted: 02 Jul 2018 04:08 PM PDT

    Incident location: Vancouver, BC. Canada.

I messed up the latch for my hood some time back in a small accident. I decided not to fix it but today on the highway it somehow came loose and my hood flew up and smashed my windshield. I immediately put the hazard lights on but unfortunately had no sight. I drifted to the right side which i knew there was a median. i hit the median and hit the front bumper right side.

I do not have comprehensive. All i have is collision. Please tell me i am covered for not just the front bumper but the windshield and smashed hood...

Insurance says I owe them but I cancelled my policy months prior

    Posted: 02 Jul 2018 03:49 PM PDT

Cancelled my plan in January. Our premiums went sky high ($1300/mnth) Had to call again to cancel my plan in March. They assured me. This time our policy was cancelled. We hadn't paid the premium for months..

Late May, I went to the ER. Myself and my wife told the financial lady we were self pay. Today i got a bill from BlueCross blue sheild saying I owe them $1000 for that ER visit.

What gives? Why won't the insurance company cancel our policy? Is the hospital double billing or what? They claim they didnt charge any insurance. Insurance is claiming they paided the hospital. Any advice?

Tiny stone broke the rental car windshield.

    Posted: 02 Jul 2018 09:13 PM PDT

Hello guys, I was driving this afternoon and little stone flew to the car that I rented this morning and broke the windshield. I didn't get the enterprise insurance plan because my credit card (Wellsfargo) company says they can cover the insurance for the car rental.

I didn't expect that stone coming from somewhere nor can break the windshield.

What will happen in the future? Is it effect to my credit score? Or should I pay for the Enterprise for repair?

This is my first car accident by nature, and I don't know anything about it.

Auto claim advice please - Australia (VIC)

    Posted: 02 Jul 2018 06:32 PM PDT

Need some advice guys. My car is insured through Bingle and somebody ran into the back of me in February.

I made a claim and was told I had to pay the excess up front ($750) in order for it to be repaired which would be refunded when the other guy made his own claim.

I did this and provided details of the person who hit me. It's now July and the other person has not made a claim with their insurance company. I called Bingle and they told me that there is no deadline for him to do this and they cannot chase him up. I doubt he's going to make a claim and now I am out of pocket for someone hitting me.

Does this sound normal? Bingle are quite frustrating to deal with and I'm wondering if there's any way I can escalate this. Shouldn't they be chasing his insurance?

    Psychiatry and Super Bills

    Posted: 02 Jul 2018 05:03 PM PDT

Hello r/insurance! I've never made a text post on reddit and it seems you're supposed to apologize for formatting mistakes you will inevitably make when you do, so here's me doing that.

Moving on! Quick tl;dr....never had insurance, see a nurse practitioner for monthly visits and meds, would getting insurance and submitting a super bill save me any money since i'm not using it anywhere else?

Okay, so here's the long version. 23F - i've never had insurance, never seen any sort of health professional except for emergencies and my anxiety meds, even as an adult. I know this is ridiculous, but I have a hard time seeing it as a priority. When I was a kid the only time I ever got healthcare was when something was broken/infected or was actively dying, otherwise suck it up, because ya know, poor. Still not making a lot of money so I figure i'll probably not die from that weird ache/pain/rash. I do however see a nurse practitioner who prescribes me various meds for anxiety and depression. I try to see her once or twice a month. Meds and visits run me an average of $300 per month. I work for a small business (3 employees) and they do not offer any sort of benefits. Would I be throwing away money if I were paying for an insurance and not using it except for the super bills? I'm sure it varies by plan, but just a vague idea would be helpful. How much do you usually get when you are compensated for a superbill? I have no idea what i'm doing or how this stuff works, any advice?

Do Value Add Services help with sales?

    Posted: 02 Jul 2018 04:47 PM PDT

Hey Brokers/Agents of Reddit! I was curious if I could get some input from the Commercial Agents that have V.A.S's at their agency and your thoughts on how they help (or don't) with sales?

    • Do they help as a selling point up front?
    • Do they help with retention?
    • Do many of your clients use them if available or ask for them if they are not?
    • How do you market them?

Full disclosure, I work for a company that has developed a host web based risk management technology for large carriers but are simplifying these down for brokers to be able to provide their clients. I AM NOT TRYING TO ILLICIT SALES! I just want to be upfront and honest and was hoping for some feedback from the market place.

Any input or questions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks, and hope you guys don't get too many claims over the holiday!

    Own Occupation Definition

    Posted: 02 Jul 2018 04:15 PM PDT

    Hello all!

I'm looking at purchasing true own occupation DI and was hoping to get an honest take on an own occupation definition. A little background - 32m in NJ, newly minted family medicine attending, going to be doing hospitalist work. The definition in question is below - i've gotten conflicting reviews on it from 2 salesmen, one saying that the extra language is useful for physicians, while the other is telling me that it's a negative for the policy. Let me know what you all think. Thanks!

    Total Disability

You will be considered totally disabled if, solely due to injury or sickness, you are not able to perform the material and substantial duties of your occupation, even if you are gainfully employed in another occupation.

Working an average of more than 40 hours in a week, in itself, is not a material and substantial duty.

Your occupation means the occupation(s) in which you are engaged during the 12 months prior to the time you become disabled. Your occupation does not mean a specific job title, designation, industry, or job with a certain employer.

If your occupation is limited to a Medical Doctor or Doctor of Osteopathy and more than 50% of income is earned from hands-on patient care, we will consider you to be totally disabled even if you are gainfully employed in your practice or another occupation so long as, solely due to injury or sickness, you are not able to provide hands-on patient care.

Hands-on Patient Care means meeting with a patient in a clinical setting for the purposes of providing medical advice, evaluation, diagnosis, or treatment, that you regularly and personally provide, during the 12 months prior to your disability.

If your occupation is limited to a Medical Doctor or Doctor of Osteopathy and more than 50% of income is earned from performing surgical procedures, we will consider you to be totally disabled even if you are gainfully employed in your practice or another occupation so long as, solely due to Injury or sickness, you are not able to perform surgical procedures.

Surgical Procedures means the medical interventions involving an incision with instruments performed by you in a clinical or hospital setting normally involving anesthesia and/or respiratory assistance, that you regularly perform, during the 12 months prior to your disability. These procedures can be performed on either an inpatient or outpatient basis. Providing hypodermic injections, in itself, is not a surgical procedure.

(MD) stolen vehicle hit my car

    Posted: 02 Jul 2018 03:24 PM PDT

My vehicle was hit in an intersection by a stolen car. The driver fled but my insurance was able to figure out who the owner is. The owners insurance is refusing to pay because the driver took the vehicle without permission. Is it worth my time to go after the vehicle owner in small claims for my deductible and diminished value?

    Minor hit & run incident

    Posted: 02 Jul 2018 02:58 PM PDT

    Hi all,

Was involved in a minor accident yesterday, occurred in a toll plaza during heavy traffic. Got pictures of the car + license plate that hit us before being ushered to the side by the toll collector. Other driver starts driving off, we call the police and they have us exit across the bridge to make a report.

Wondering what my next steps would be here.. the damage is minor. Dents from the license plate fixture/screws of the other vehicle but its a lease so will potentially get dinged for it at the end. Have Geico as my insurance, but from what I've read it will potentially just come out of my deductible since I don't have their insurance info. Is there a way that Geico would work to look up their info and be able to go after their insurance for this?

Thanks in advance for the advice!

I crashed an insured company vehicle, does my rate go up?

    Posted: 02 Jul 2018 11:07 AM PDT

I was in an accident where some lady fell asleep on the road. No court dates are set yet, but I'm bracing myself for a roller coaster depending on how far the lady wants to go with my boss. Lawyer is already involved with my boss as well and remain in constant contact.

What I want to know is, I was on my boss's insurance while driving his vehicle. Will this effect my own insurance at all? I know it can be used as a secondary which probably won't come into play. However will it effect my rates on my personally owned vehicles if I'm determined at fault? Do they care?

I am located in United States, Southern Califnornia.

16 yr old son just got his license. Should (or do I have to) add him to our existing auto insurance?

I've had some folks say he needs to be added, others say that he is insured under our existing coverage (State Farm). The cost is significantly higher if we add him. Not sure what to do here. We live in Illinois if that helps. Thanks!

Opposing Insurance Company Isn't Paying For My Medical Bills?

    Posted: 02 Jul 2018 02:11 PM PDT

Hello! I want to give a short run down and that is, I was involved in a semi trucking accident and it's been two and a half months. I've noticed I've been increasingly garnering pain and I want to see a physical therapist and a therapist since the first one I saw said I got PTSD from the accident itself. The thing is, the insurance company says they will only pay for a maximum amount of 10,000$ for medical bills. I am seeing a regular neurologist because of this and now I have to add seeing a physical therapist and a therapist for possible for the rest of my life. I wouldn't mind so much but they only offered 9,000 which will only pay my bills for so long until I have to start paying out of my own pocket for THEIR accident. I want to start seeing the therapist and physical therapist because I can't stand and barely sit down because of the increasing pain resulting from the accident. Now they are putting a medical expenses cap? I was in the process of talking to a lawyer if it got to a point where I felt like I needed advice on my case which resulted in me contacting a lawyer. The insurance adjusters refuse to go above 9,000 and now won't pay past 10,000 for medical bills.

I posted a question on the topic of if the insurance company had to keep paying for my medical bills if something arose and everyone was in agreement that they should be doing that. They sent me a document saying that their offer is 9,000 and the medical expenses cap is at 10,000. Is this really possible or am I reading the document wrong and that after I sign the document, they will stop paying that cap? Thank you for any help!

EDIT: I forgot to mention that they offered two deals prior. The first deal was for 7,000 and even though my family ( again now I am unable to work for my whole life so living on my own is thrown out of the window and I am forced to live with family... ) had to pay for 1/4 of my medical bills, they were going to take it out of the settlement, meaning I would be left with 4,000-5,000. My guardian was talking with the agent and said that was ridiculous and they magically changed it to 9,000 and they would give back the rest of the medical bill expenses. This seems really sketchy to me on how they were trying to present it like 7,000 was a lot, but disguised the fact that my family had to pay for some of the damages. It's bad enough that because of this accident, I can't hang out with friends and go out to concerts like I used to. Now I'm stuck in bed, thinking about if they give only a small amount of money, my family is going to suffer for their company's negligent drivers. (Sorry for the mini rant there, this accident has really affected my entire life and bringing my family down is something that will kill me inside)

Oh, I forgot to mention! The semi truck company responsible is required by the state of GA to hold a minimum of $750,000 in policies. I also forgot to mention that the injuries I sustained were bones that were moved around my within my neck (MRIS before and after the accident proves this). I have a condition called Transverse Myelitis where I have neck pain/numbness/ can't control my bladder/ and back pain but it was nowhere near the level that it was after the accident.

I rear-ended someone. Am I at fault and what will happen to my insurance?

    Posted: 02 Jul 2018 01:19 PM PDT

I was driving on the highway in Texas and a car on the rightmost lane swerved into mine lane without putting without indicating. There was little space. I honked the horn and stamped on the brake but it wasn't enough. I ended up rear ending the person, however, the person did not stop to exchange information. I'm assuming that they were not insured. I called 911, pulled off the road, checked the car, and waited for the police to show up. I told them the nature of the damages and the police department determined it was a minor accident and said that a police officer would meet me to file a report. In the meantime, I called my insurance and told them what happened and they asked for the accident report number but I had no number to give them. Fast forward, the police came and I told them what happened but they told me it would be pointless to file a report since I did not at least get the other person's license plate number. I ended up not filing a report.

I have seemingly little damage from the impact. My license plate and the bumper is slightly bent, I have a few noticeable scratches, and I have a tear underneath my headlight. I did notice my alignment is off and found some leaking, as well. I went ahead and scheduled an damage appraisal at a collision center tomorrow.

I told my mother all of this but she told me that it would not be worth it to get my damages appraised since my insurance deductible may be affected in the future. I feel conflicted. I did some research online to see what will become of my insurance but I couldn't find any helpful information.

(P.S. I don't know if this helps but I have auto insurance through USAA and I have full coverage.)

Am I at fault and what will happen to my insurance if I accept or decline the damage appraisal?

Adding my cousin to my auto insurance, any downside?

    Posted: 02 Jul 2018 01:17 PM PDT

I'm 26 and share a house with my best friend, her sister and my cousin. My cousin's car broke down a few months back and since I have an "extra" car, I've been letting her use it to commute to her university and her part-time job. I called my insurance and they said that it was fine for her to be driving it. I was thinking of signing the car over to her and letting her get her own insurance though we found, assuming because of her age, that it's much more expensive. I'm trying to be a helpful cousin and save her some $$$ since she's a hardworking college student but if the plan is too risky, well, it's too risky.

Would it just be easier/cleaner for everyone for her to get her own insurance on the car? I'm not terribly concerned about the car itself (KBB shows it at >$8K) but more about any potential liability/claims if she were to get into any accidents.

    Thank you!

Just got a auto insurance quote from Progressive with more coverage that's coming in at less than half of what I was paying at Geico. What's the catch?

    Posted: 02 Jul 2018 12:50 PM PDT

    Auto insurance - Georgia

I'm currently insured through Geico and my policy is ending in a few days, so I decided to do a bit of shopping around. I got a got a quote from Progressive for a bit higher coverage than I currently have (I was looking to increase my coverage anyway). And, I found that Progressive was significantly cheaper than my current rates with Geico. Like less than half of what I'm paying now.

I called Progressive after getting the quote on the phone to make sure there wasn't any errors or something I'm missing and they confirmed that this is the right price. They took a quick look at my driving record and told me that I had no tickets or accidents in the past five years that would possibly change the price that I got. I also called Geico to see if they had been over charging me or something, and also to give them the opportunity to match Progressive's quote. Geico told me that I was receiving the best possible price available, and they couldn't offer me any sort of discount at this time.

Would you guys take a look at this info and see if I'm missing something. I honestly can't believe that I could be getting better coverage for so much cheaper.

    Geico
    BI - 25k/50k - $330.40
    PD - 25K - $230
    UBI - Declined
    UPD - Declined

    Comprehensive - $500 deductible - $118.40
    Collision - $500 deductible - $458

    Emergency Roadside - $14.80

    TOTAL: $1151.60

    Progressive
    BI & PD (Combined) - 100k/300k/100k - $211.00
    UBI - 100k/300k - $16
    UPD - 100k/$500 deductible - $7
    Medical payments - 2k/each person - $10

    Comprehensive - $500 deductible - $37
    Collision - $500 deductible - $166

    Emergency Roadside - declined
    Loan/lease payoff - $11

    TOTAL - $458

I know it's not an apples to apples comparison because the coverage is slightly different, but if I wind up switching to Progressive, are they going to run their MVR and wind up jacking up my rate significantly?

At fault driving mom's car on suspended license...

    Posted: 02 Jul 2018 08:51 AM PDT

Long story short, I rear ended someone on the freeway while driving my mom's vehicle. I am not on her policy but she does have full coverage. I also found out my license was suspended due to a 2 year old ticket I haven't paid. I'd like to know how such a situation will usually play out insurance-wise, especially since they told me they would ask my mom whether she gave me permission to use the vehicle. So far the claims agent has only spoken to me briefly, but have yet to talk to my mom. Therefore, I'd like to acquire as much info on the matter as possible, thanks in advance!

tl;dr When asked, should my mom say she gave me explicit permission to use the vehicle or would it be in our best interest to say the contrary?

Edit: Wanted to add that she has State Farm Insurance w/ full coverage (liability, collision, comprehensive, etc.)

Am I Over Insured? (car insurance)

    Posted: 02 Jul 2018 11:11 AM PDT

    Hello,

Hopefully a pretty straightforward question. Every year my insurance has gone up. I kept hearing when you turn 25 it goes down, that never happened. I'm 28 now and I'm paying way more than I ever have. I know I should be shopping for insurance every year, I just haven't gotten around to it. I just want to know if I really need all of the coverage I have. My car is 11-12 years old now, and maybe worth $3-$4k at this point. I know many people suggest dropping collision, is that really wise?

    Bodily Injury Liability: $100k/$300k

    Property Damage: $50k per occurrence

    Medical Payments: $2000 per person

Uninsured Motorist Bodily Injury - Nonstacked: $50k per person/$100k per occurrence

    Comprehensive: $500

    Collision: $500

I don't own a home, and my car is basically my only asset, so I wasn't sure if I needed all of this coverage. I'm paying $1,076 every six months. TIA.

[US-FL] Car Accident Wednesday other driver has claimed liability. Car is total loss, but offer low. Options?

    Posted: 02 Jul 2018 02:00 PM PDT

Crossposted to Legaladvice as well. First time going down this road.

So I was in a car accident on Wednesday. The driver of the vehicle that struck me has accepted liability, and due to the damage my car is being totalled. I received the adjustors report today, and the value on my car is low by nearly 2500-3500. They have provided the vehicles they compared it to, but as I drove this car off the lot with 3 miles, and am sure of every maintenance, and bump its taken - I am basing my number off of my same year, model, mileage, and certified pre-owned.

What options do I have with my insurance company? Or do I actually need an attorney to address this.

Considering a career change into insurance. Which pathway pays higher sales or adjuster?

    Posted: 02 Jul 2018 10:03 AM PDT

Please excuse my ignorance if I say anything that is incorrect. I'm currently in sales. I average around 92K a year and enjoy what I do but my field of work will eventually stale out due to the way telecommunication retail is slowing down.

I'm fine with traveling and have a strong eagerness to learn. I'm 30 years old. I don't currently have any certificates but would definitely do courses with CPCU and ARM, although I don't really know what those mean if I'm being truthful, I just want to be competitive.

I've heard of the extremely high turn over for regular insurance agents in sales, but understand they have a potentially high earning cap. I've also heard cat adjusters make a very healthy earning.

I would love some insight into the industry from someone who has experience here.
