How To Make Money On Stocks of Video Game Companies Posted: 09 Jul 2018 06:36 AM PDT Many tech stocks continue their upward march, defying all critics. In fact, while the broad market, as defined by the S&P 500 index, has barely moved anywhere since the beginning of this year, many stocks related to the video game industry scored impressive gains: [link] [comments] |

Posted: 09 Jul 2018 02:47 PM PDT I invested some fun money and now I own stock in Canopy Growth and Aurora (CANADA). What would happen to said stocks and their value if they were to be bought up by a much larger company? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Jul 2018 06:17 PM PDT Seems like I've been reading about the end of this market for years now but it seems like a lot of people are signalling it's coming soon and there's been quite a few signs already. Anyone have any thoughts on this? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Jul 2018 04:32 PM PDT JPMorgan Chase's combination of scale, diversification, and sound risk management seems like a simple path to competitive advantage, but few other firms have been able to execute a similar strategy. JPMorgan now benefits from a nearly unrivaled combination of scale and scope within the United States, creating unique opportunities including its partnerships with other leading firms like Visa and Amazon. Will you buy it? [link] [comments] |
Twitter too zealously took up the fight against unnecessary accounts Posted: 09 Jul 2018 04:16 PM PDT The cleaning of Twitter user accounts turned into a drop in the company's shares by more than 8%. The leadership of Twitter launched a campaign to clean up the social network from "fake and suspicious" users, but the market did not appreciate the effort. The purges began back in October, when the company suggested that Russia used the network to intervene in the 2016 election, but their scale has recently been truly daunting: the Washington Post reports that 70 million accounts have been frozen in the past two months, representing nearly 20% of the total number of Twitter users. Last week, Twitter added 6.8% to the price amid positive comments from Wells Fargo analysts Peter Stabler, who praised the company for improving the efficiency of monetization and success with the integration of video content. However, now, when the cleaning of the social network has shown how many accounts are not of commercial value, the near prospects of monetization seem less rosy. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Jul 2018 06:28 AM PDT CNBC: Groupon is seeking a buyer, according to a Recode report which said that executives at the daily deals company have stepped up their efforts to lure possible suitors. Alibaba, which already owns about six percent of Groupon, is said to be a potential buyer. I heard a crazy idea this morning that it could be bought at as much as $12 a share. I don't know Groupon well enough so what do you guys think? Is there an opportunity here? [link] [comments] |
Stocks Are Showing Signs of Weakness Posted: 09 Jul 2018 03:08 PM PDT The Market Environment July 2018Key Points
Unemployment rose in June, but not because people are losing their jobs. In fact, the economy added 213K jobs last month. Unemployment ticked up because there is a larger pool of people entering the workforce. This is good news for investors because it means there is more slack in the economy than previously thought. With more slack, the Federal Reserve is less likely to hike interest rates at a faster pace, relieving investor anxiety. The Dow Jones Industrial AverageThe index is weak compared to other major averages. Trade disputes and tariffs are likely worrying investors of an impending slow down in economic and investment growth. The index has broken two major levels: the solid green trend line, and the 200-day moving average. Plus, breadth analysis shows that only half of the stocks in the index are above their 50-day moving average. Weak breadth and broken supports are signals that the index may continue to fall. However, not all hope is lost. The green dashed line on the chart above may be a new support. This support could be the one that investors are paying attention to, and it also helps support our Dow Theory analysis. Dow Theory – the idea that the transportation average leads the industrial average – gives us a positive sign too. The transportation average has found support at its trend line, and if it holds, it could signal a recover in the industrial average. Interest Rates May Signal A Top in StocksThis is a chart comparing the 10-year treasury and the S&P 500. The red vertical lines are points where yields peak, while the green ones are where yields bottomed. These lines show that treasury yields tend to lead the stock market. Now, focus your attention on the solid red lines. These lines precede the market tops in 2000 and 2007. Each time, treasury yields reached a high near the trend line, and dropped. A few weeks later, a bear market formed in stocks. Right now, interest rates are in a similar situation. They have peaked at the trend line, and everything points to them falling. If we see a dramatic shift in yields, we may see stocks fall next. visit https://www.brtechnicals.com/the-market-environment-july-2018/ to read the full blog with charts! [link] [comments] |

I Think TSLA is Having A Wider Impact On Miners Than EV's...Thoughts? Posted: 09 Jul 2018 07:57 AM PDT I've been seeing a lot of negative press on TSLA...that's great and all but it doesn't take away from the fact that mining for cobalt, lithium, graphite, etc could legitimately see a huge boom in the very near term. Look at some of the biggest companies in 2017 that topped charts (https://medium.com/stock-market-source/3-mining-stocks-to-watch-in-q3-1602a2b9992).
It's just a matter of time....so while people are hating on Tesla, I'm watching and buying basic materials. Just wanted to see what other opinions were...and again, not looking for a discussion on what TSLA will or will not do but the impact that EV growth from companies like it will have. Why do company profits matter? Posted: 09 Jul 2018 10:52 AM PDT As the title says, i don't understand why a company's profits matter to its stock price. Obviously, a share is a % ownership of the company, so that would suggest that one should care if the company makes or loses money, but since shareholders (talking about the vast majority of shareholders who own a very minute portion of the company) see none of the profits not sustain any of the losses of the company, save for dividends, which aren't guaranteed even if the company makes money. In my opinion, stocks are just commodities, and it is the populations belief that the profitability of the company matters is what makes it matter at all. Am i right? If I'm wrong what am i missing?
