    Individual Company vs Holdings Company

    Posted: 08 Jul 2018 02:33 AM PDT

I'm an experienced entrepreneur. Though I've never had more than one company at one time. However, I'm about to launch another company that will create a second company I'm owning. Additionally, I'm picturing multiple offshoots to come quickly thereafter.

I'm trying to figure out at which point I should transition from multiple individual companies to an overall "Holdings" company, wherein all of the various companies actually fall under the Parrent company. I guess really, I'm trying to figure out the benefit to having a holdings company.
Thank you for any thoughts. Cheers, Greg

[Texas] I have no business experience or education but I am interested in some ideas and want to know what to do next.

    Posted: 07 Jul 2018 03:29 PM PDT

Hey everyone I hope this is a good sub for a question like this. I have always had a dream to have my own childcare facility for infants specifically. I am lucky enough to have gotten the opportunity to be able to save money over the next few years and I don't know really where to start as far as educating myself on if my goals and ideas are realistic. Is there a service that helps people in my position go over the realities of business ownership and could set me in the right direction? Of course I would be willing to pay for these services. I am still working on my associates in college, so I'm at a good place to be able to change majors/take specific classes that could be beneficial to me while I figure this out. Thanks everyone for any advice and I'm sorry if this post if very vague, it's always just been an idea in the back of my head that I never thought I could make a reality until recently.

I've taken lots of advice from my last post, and here is the finished product! For this round of comments, PLEASE only provide feedback based on design, visuals, and functionality. Last post, I received lots of comments about the business and the purpose of it, the validity of our counselors etc. I do appreciate this feedback, don't get me wrong! However, I am really looking for the feedback of design, in comparison to other small business websites. Thank you all! <3

I want to buy a van and start my own courier business, is there anyone here that does this? (UK)

    Posted: 07 Jul 2018 05:01 AM PDT

I have found websites that allow you to contact businesses who need loads delivered. I am hoping to buy a VW transporter, get my courier and GiT insurance, Membership with one or more of these websites, and start working for myself.

I did some work for yodel a few years back, and was a delivery driver for a local restaurant. I now want to purchase a van and hopefully make a bit more money in the long run

I have gone through all my expenses, fuel, phone, everything, and worked out -if my estimates are correct I would probably have to average about £300 a week to break even in my first year. - With obviously the highest price being the purchase of a van.

Now with getting a load, taking it about 300 miles then a backload, with an overnight stay in travel lodge, fuel, food etc. I have worked out If I can get constant work, I should be able to make about £300 every 2 days give or take.

Do my estimates seem way off or is this about right?

I have also seen that some websites offer loads that you can take from Folkstone to Poland or Dover to Germany for example. So some long miles but I am hoping I can charge a rate of £1 a mile give or take - Is this reasonable or too high or low?

Im hoping after the first year I could make something between £16-£38k Per year depending on work availability, amount I work, any van problems etc. - Is this a good estimate?

The money Im hoping would come from my mum (So I wont be risking getting in real debt with banks/finance companies).

Also I am 26 if this would influence my insurance negatively?

Please tell me what I haven't considered, or if I am way off with anything I have written.

    Thanks.

Quick question about the Supreme Court ruling on sales tax for online retailers

    Posted: 07 Jul 2018 01:56 PM PDT

How would we know if we should be registering with any given state and collecting sales tax for that state? Aside from the state contacting you saying hey, you owe us. I ship all over the USA. Would a person have to keep up with each states laws regarding sales tax?

    Opinions on one-time consultancy services

    Posted: 07 Jul 2018 11:39 PM PDT

Whats your take on having a service which offers one-time consultancy services such as IT-related projects/tasks?

I am aware of the fact that there is nothing long term which might affect income however could it possibly have the opposite effect given that there are no strings attached?

    Thanks for any input :)

Small business frozen food quality check

    Posted: 07 Jul 2018 06:30 PM PDT

Hi. Our family owns a small store that sells frozen food. Our state (AR) health department came to do quality check and told us that we are responsible to label all the frozen foods expiration date even if the product itself does not have it stated. Or we will need to discard them all. This demand never happened before during 15 yrs of our operation. Im confused on how we are suppose to know their expiration dates if the production line did not label them. They are not some homemade packages. What am i suppose to do with this?

I'm one of those weird people who actually enjoys phone sales. What kind of business could I start with this skill?

    Posted: 07 Jul 2018 10:07 PM PDT

I just don't know what to sell, my only experience is in B2B trade magazine subscriptions. I'm not interested in face to face sales, just phone sales. I thought maybe I could sell other people's services, like web design, business automation scripting, or cleaning services. (Those are just examples I've come up with so far, not necessarily what I want to do.) I would love to hear suggestions from this sub.

Advice on approaching a business owner about a necessary cultural shift that they may be preventing

    Posted: 07 Jul 2018 04:58 PM PDT

So I've been brought in to help a company (around for a couple decades with around two hundred employees) that works in a commoditized service industry. My role really is around process improvement and product innovation (their service relies on this underlying product - think an outsourcing company). After digging into some of their operations, I'm finding myself in a situation where I don't think I can make the necessary improvements due to a cultural issue. There is an antiquated way of thinking and much of the hesitation for change stems from the fact that the owner doesn't want to do certain things such as cloud-based integration with some other vendors (as a side note, the whole industry is doing these and subsequently causing a customer retention/attraction issue). The owner knows the business is not on a trajectory it should be, but I don't think he realizes he is perhaps the largest issue for this. I have spoken with members of the executive management and they are wanting change, but have told me that the issue comes down to the owner not wanting the changes that even they have proposed for. I think fear reasons are why - such as not using any cloud-based service for the belief it may be hacked or the fact a third-party is involved. While I'm prepared to have this tough conversation with the owner, I feel like every turn I'm learning something new that perplexes me on how big of an issue this could really be. For example, I have found out that no department operates on a budget nor do those heads have any P&L responsibility. It's almost as if he is micromanaging aspects, but gives full autonomy to others, with out having a clear vision/strategy for the future. I'm curious if you found yourself in a similar situation, what things would you try to focus on?

This is my favorite tool to manage pipeline. What is yours?

    Posted: 07 Jul 2018 01:29 PM PDT

Instead of managing your pipeline manually, you can set up Closer Bot to automate tasks. It will send you notifications about current deals, giving you the option to set them as on track or push them one week or one month. Customizable workflows enable you to make updates as necessary to enhance accuracy in forecasting, which prevents the need to continuously run reports.

An added benefit of pipeline automation in addition to convenience is cost savings. This is because you'll no longer need to have status meetings that waste your time an add to expenses. Plus, you can even schedule notifications to arrive in time for essential meetings or to fit with other processes.

Starting an LLC in another state other than my own

    Posted: 07 Jul 2018 12:29 PM PDT

So the startup costs for an LLC in California aren't the cheapest and the annual fee is the most expensive compared to any other state.

I'm starting up a clothing accessory business to which I plan on selling through a personal online store and other online stores. But I also plan on getting my product sold in local shops throughout California. I will not have a shop of my own.

My question is would it be beneficial to start an LLC in another state if I'm going to try and push my product in other people's stores? This is purely to avoid CA's tax and annual fees.

Also, not sure if this is the right sub for this post. If not what's the right one? Thank You.

    Morning Rituals Of Successful Entrepreneurs

    Posted: 07 Jul 2018 04:02 PM PDT

Hey, whats up!? Just thought I would stop by and offer some great information to you fine business people. If you are interested in learning more about the morning rituals of successful entrepreneurs than read on! I Just created a video on this subject and wanted to post a summary here so you can benefit from the information as well!

I recently conducted a study on the morning rituals and morning habits of some of the most successful entrepreneurs and found some awesome similarities and some massive differences. For me, this points out how important it is to have a morning ritual and it also points out that you should tailor your morning routine to what you are comfortable with and willing to do on a daily basis. The purpose of a morning ritual is to prep you for a successful day and consistently put you in a great mood ready to achieve.

First, let's get into Tony Robbins morning ritual. Tony Robbins and I actually have a very similar morning ritual for the most part. Every morning Tony Robbins gets up and does a full minute of cold water exposure. If he is at his home in Fiji he actually has a small little pool that he jumps into every morning that is chilled to around 50 degrees which in the Fiji heat feels cold. Having lived in Fiji for a short time I know that there is nothing cold in Fiji at all. The water is even to warm to cool off in at the end of the day. The shower water is even warm. My version of this that I do every morning is that I take as cold of a shower as I can get the water and living in the NW, our water gets cold.

The next great part of Tony's morning ritual is his morning meditation that he does every morning. He does something called positive meditation where he sits and thinks about everything he is thankful for and grateful for in his own life. Since I started doing this form of meditation I have personally found myself to be much happier throughout the day and really love my day to day life that much more. After this meditation, he goes into a visualization meditation where he visualizes everything that he wants to attract into his life and create in his life. Everything from the relationships he wants to build to the people that he wants to help feed, he creates it in his mind through visualization and then sets out to create it. I have started doing this just a week or so ago and I have since seen massive growth in my youtube channel I have also begun to create more lucrative marketing plans for my current business and am feeling confident about the future.

Next, he goes through his list of positive affirmations. Positive affirmations, if you are not familiar, are short little phrases that you say to yourself or out loud that either you would like to manifest or that you would like to maintain. An example of this would be to say things like "I am growing richer every day" or "I am a beautiful person and people love me."

Next up, let's talk about Gary V and what Gary does every morning. Just as a heads up, Gary does have a super short morning ritual and it totally fits his gogogo personality. Gary usually wakes up eats breakfast then reads the morning news in the bathroom. Gary then spends about 5 minutes with his kids. To me only spending 5 minutes with your kids seems to be an incredibly short period of time to spend with your kids but I am sure he gets to spend more time with them in the afternoon and on the weekends.

Hope that you have enjoyed this read and find some bits and pieces to use in your own morning ritual to build a more productive and successful day!

How do you keep track of your users/clients/customers? CRM?

    Posted: 07 Jul 2018 08:05 AM PDT

Does anyone use any exceptional platform(s) that automatically syncs whatever is happening on the website onto the backend CRM? For instance, let's say we're early-stage Facebook and we want a database of all people that have signed up. We'd want to view the user and maybe write notes about them, see their account info, etc.

I'd love to have any feedback.

    In need of ideas

    Posted: 07 Jul 2018 01:09 PM PDT

I want to start a business and I want it to be within the jewelry niche. However, I don't want to make jewelry or have my own jewelry brand, but instead I want to offer a service to several established jewelry brands. What can that service be? The only thing I can think of is marketing....

    Suggestions are appreciated. Thank you.
