Starting at Deloitte, haven't sat for any parts

    Posted: 09 Jul 2018 02:22 PM PDT

I'm starting Deloitte Tax in August and I haven't sat for any parts of the exam yet. I finished my masters last year and took a year off to travel and do some shit I've wanted to do, how fucked am I going in with no parts passed? Is it going to be a problem, like am I going to get shit for not doing any? I'm halfway through studying for FAR so I'm hoping I can at least take it before my start date. Had a great year(ish) off but now I'm seriously regretting not doing anything lol.

Thinking about jumping ship- 20 year old B4 Intern

    Posted: 09 Jul 2018 07:16 PM PDT

    Hi Everyone,

I've been a long time subscriber to this subreddit since high school, and although I saw the constant negativity regarding the profession, kept pushing for this career. Through college, I juggled between pursuing a career in public accounting(to start off with) and a career in Health care management(requires a Master's)

I've experienced an internship in Healthcare(Really enjoyed it), and am now completing an internship with a B4 firm. The company is great, fantastic pay and benefits in the long run. However, it is the summer, so I am not experiencing a true view of how a career in audit would truly be, but I try and ask a lot of questions of the current staff to gain an idea. These people seem to hate their lives. Lately I've begun to wonder if any of this is worth it. I feel that if I pursue this career, I'll blink tomorrow and be 65. The monotonous sitting in a small room everyday, staring at a computer screen. There is little interaction with each other, and honestly this seems to be a passionless field. If I'm going to be working 70-80 hours a week, I would prefer it to be a somewhat derivable path to really helping people. I dunno, did anyone else experience these second thoughts when they were young and entering the field?

Also, If I do pursue Healthcare Mgmt, should I spend a few years(3 max) in public acc, and then return to school? Or just go straight into Master's for Health Care and that field following undergrad?

Thank ya, honestly just needed to write this out for myself.

    Transferring Intermediate Accounting I?

    Posted: 09 Jul 2018 10:11 PM PDT

I have the opportunity to take Intermediate Accounting I in a physical class (not online) which is a new thing at the community college I attend. I will have finished Accounting Principles II at the end of this summer and would prefer to take what I see as the next fitting class right away rather than waiting possibly a year (maybe more) after transferring to take my next accounting class.

I have looked up statewide guaranteed transfers in my state (CO) but have not been able to find any clear cut information. Should I take Intermediate Acct I and risk my transfer school not honoring the credit or hold off? I emailed admissions at the school I want to transfer to but have not received a reply yet. Has anyone had a similar experience or situation like this? Does Inter Acct I generally transfer in?

    EY Risk Advisory Interview

    Posted: 09 Jul 2018 09:54 PM PDT

    Hi All,

I recently attended EY's ELP and just got invited to a case interview for the Risk Advisory Program(RAP). I'm a sophomore and never done an actual case interview. What are somethings I should expect and which resources should I use to prepare myself. My interview is early next week.

Thank you all for the feedback in advance.

Took REG today and I feel uneasy

    Posted: 09 Jul 2018 01:09 PM PDT

I thought all of the multiple choice (even the second set) were much much easier than becker. Now I'm worried that I fucked something up and got a medium difficulty second testlet.

    Is this normal for reg?

Does anyone do in-house accounting for a tech company?

    Posted: 09 Jul 2018 10:43 AM PDT

I've been looking into in-house accountant positions for companies like Netflix, Uber, Lyft, etc. (primarily San Francisco Bay Area based) but was wondering what that job looks like in terms of responsibilities and work-life balance. If anyone here has relevant experience, please let me know!

How did you know accounting was right for you?

    Posted: 09 Jul 2018 08:25 PM PDT

Seriously wondering if accounting is for me and want to know how everyone else felt before they started!

I'm entering my senior year with a major in accounting and plan to sit for the exams after graduation. Ive had some experience because i work in the athletics accounting department on campus but I mostly just look after their monthly team budgets on excel so nothing crazy. I like my major classes sometimes but I generally enjoy school/being a student. I'm getting really nervous I'm going to hate being a CPA and even more terrified of feeling stuck, especially after going thru the tests and everything to get to that point. Is it going to be a waste of time? How did y'all know???

Trying to switch from Audit to audit-advisory hybrid group, tips?

    Posted: 09 Jul 2018 04:33 PM PDT

Some context, I'm an A2 looking at switching within the firm I'm at to a group that focuses on audit-advisory work with major deals. If I were to go forward with trying to switch, would I encounter issues with my rating or promotion if I move this early on?

If anyone has experience with this move or a similar one, I would love some insight. Thanks!
