    Micron vs. the world

    Posted: 08 Jun 2018 10:42 AM PDT

Hi, I'm new to stocks and I'm hoping someone can explain this like I'm 5: Micron looks like it's really cheap to me. It has a P/E (TTM) of 13.89, and an earnings per share of $4.41. The stock is trading at about $61/share. Contrasting this with Amazon (totally unrelated, I'm just using it as an example) which has a P/E(TTM) of 370, earnings per share of $4.55 and a price of about $1687/share. Does this mean that Micron is a great buy?? What am I missing?

How are options food for beginners?

    Posted: 08 Jun 2018 02:30 AM PDT

So recently came back from an event, and yes I take it with a grain of salt as it was a lot of marketing. I had actually gone to see a speaker after the sort of educational marketing presentation.

Either way presenter seemed like a guy with good faith. Strangely he didn't shove things down your throat like a we will teach you the 3 secret tips kinda thing, so didn't give me any reason to not trust him. One thing he said was if you don't have enough money for stocks, and you should be able to buy blocks of 100 then go for options. Going on to show how options are profitable.

However, curious when I got home after I realized holy crap these look terribly risky, not like oh I can loose 100% of the money for the contract. That isn't what scares me, what scares me is if your doing this because you can't afford stock and you get "assigned" it seems like your screwed. I know the two main types are call when you expect it to go up and put when you expect it to go down.

I've been reading more literature but still kinda stuck on that there's just so many sources ranging in quality it's hard to get a good solid understanding. Any insight appreciated!

PS I wrote this late at night and can't believe "good" in the subject corrected to "food without me catching it 😂😂

    IQ?

    Posted: 08 Jun 2018 02:30 PM PDT

I bought IQ at its IPO and after it went up to around 21, I sold and took the gain, but sadly never bought back in, trying to buy back in but I'm waiting for a little dip backed by people taking profits, anyone think a dip will ever occur? I'm just trying to get some opinions thanks

    $VRX

    Posted: 08 Jun 2018 01:21 PM PDT

What do you guys think about $VRX? I have it at a cost average of $16.87, so I'm up around 53%. Not sure if I should keep holding long term or sell. I'm thinking of holding until at least the 18th to see how the PFUDA for the new drug turns out. I'd like to know how everyone views Valeant's future considering its name change and its payment of debt (in other words, would it be beneficial to keep holding it?).

    Day trade restrictions

    Posted: 08 Jun 2018 12:55 PM PDT

Hey all. I know I messed up pretty good but I have a quick question. The broker I currently use bagged me with a restricted day trade, so now I'm not allowed to buy any stock for 90 days. I was wondering if it was only for this account because I was looking to move to a big boy broker anyways and really don't want to wait 3 months. Thanks in advance.

AMD is the #1 stock to buy right now

    Posted: 08 Jun 2018 12:43 PM PDT

AMD makes both processors and graphics cards.

AMD has a market cap of $15 billion.

Intel makes processors among other things, and has a market cap of $260 billion.

Nvidia makes graphics cards, and has a market cap of $150 billion.

AMD is currently dominating 2018 in terms of value-for-performance.

All signs point to AMD having a $100 billion market cap in the next 5 years without breaking a sweat.

    What do you guys think?

"When you win, someone else loses. When you lose, someone else wins." How strong is that idea, really?

    Posted: 08 Jun 2018 12:00 PM PDT

I hear this quote a lot but want to provide an example of why I don't believe it's always true, and offer it up for discussion.

Example: I buy at $50/share, and sell at $100/share. You buy it from me at $100/share, and it runs up to $150. You won. I won. We all won together!

On the other side, if I buy at $100 and it drops to $50, I lost, and whoever I initially bought from "won" but whoever I sell to at $50 also loses if it keeps dropping.

Am I looking at this wrong? I understand the idea of Opportunity Cost, but I just don't buy into the idea that anytime someone sells for a profit, someone else is losing, since over time the market is going to keep rising. I may have lost some opportunity cost, but I won overall!

How do I utilize the Ichimoku Cloud

    Posted: 08 Jun 2018 10:58 AM PDT

Apologies for being new, but I just started studying the Ichimoku Cloud, and I am having trouble finding a website that provides this form of analysis. For example, Finviz shows charts with SMA and RSI, etc. I don't see an option for the Ichimoku cloud there. What website can I use?

    Giant TVIX buy

    Posted: 08 Jun 2018 10:05 AM PDT

I play the Investopedia stock simulator game. You start with $100,000, and today someone made a >$7 million purchase of TVIX. I can't find any news on this stock or why somebody with this much money would buy it. Looks like a terrible stock. Anybody have any ideas?

Any thoughts on Nutrien (TSX & NYSE: NTR)?

    Posted: 08 Jun 2018 08:49 AM PDT

Became Nutrien after the merger of Agrium and Potash Corp, two major players in the potash business. Market cap of $44B with no other competition even close.

How to determine whether the stock is low to buy?

    Posted: 07 Jun 2018 11:52 PM PDT

I use AAPL for an example.

In Feb 2018 the lowest is about $156. Many people believe it is a low point to buy, which is right because it is $190 in June 2018.

Why people believe ~$160 is a good price to buy during early 2018? It may go even lower, in 2017 lowest is $120, $160 is consider high in 2017. In June 2018 it is $190, most people tell you to sell or hold but not many people tell you to strong buy. If the stock go to $220 in 2019 $190 is consider low.

How do people really tell when is a low point to buy?

How to find the next low point?

Is it low if drop to $175?

If I miss this $30 jump $160->$190 is it mean I am not going to get another chance like this?

    Degiro vs webull

    Posted: 08 Jun 2018 07:00 AM PDT

I live in the UK I'd like to open an account with either degiro or webull as they seem the cheapest option for me, i'd like to make 1-10 trades per month of stocks.

Can anyone recommend one over the other and why? Thanks.
