Apple Announces Slew of New Anti-Addiction iPhone Controls

    Posted: 04 Jun 2018 11:54 AM PDT

This is definitely going to start impacting usage of iPhones by some margins.

    https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-06-04/apple-announces-slew-of-new-anti-addiction-iphone-controls

Apple Inc. introduced features to help iPhone users put down their phones -- at least temporarily -- after criticism people were addicted to the company's flagship device and following similar moves to combat smartphone addiction by competitors.

The slew of tools includes updates to "Do Not Disturb" and new ways to manage notifications. Instead of waking up to a string of notifications missed over night, users will get a new "Good morning" screen summarizing the alerts. There's also a larger array of controls for muting notifications and grouping alerts to reduce the number sent to a user.

The most notable enhancement is called "Screen Time," an activity report showing how much time you're spending inside of individual apps, how often you pick up your phone and which apps are sending you the most notifications. People can set time limits on specific apps and get alerts reminding them to stop using that software as the limit approaches. It then shuts the app off, until users change the setting, executive Craig Federighi said Monday on stage at Apple's annual developers conference. The time-limits feature will synchronize between multiple devices via Apple's iCloud service.

AMD Up On Big Investment From Hedge Fund

    Posted: 04 Jun 2018 06:48 AM PDT

Isreal Englander has upped his stake in AMD 1,312% and he sold off all the funds holdings of MU.

Looking at the companies fundamentals it is interesting to me. Not the best company in the universe, fundamentally speaking but does this hedge fund manager see something we don't?

I see a gross margin lower than 40%, can't say there has been a consistent track record to follow, and the revenue has been flat for about 10 years. Seems to me this is a large speculation.

What happened to WYN , which now seems to be WYND

    Posted: 04 Jun 2018 12:05 PM PDT

I just looked at my shares and what used to be a thriving WYN , is now a lackluster WYND and I cannot trade it.

I know some spinoff company was created but I was wondering how the price in shares dropped so much and why I cannot trade them anymore.

My notes on the DXC spin off

    Posted: 04 Jun 2018 07:39 AM PDT

    • May 24: Bought 42 shares of DXC for $4,180.21 ($99.53/share)
    • June 4: As of today the value of my 42 shares is $3,561.60 ($84.80/share)
    • June 4: Due to the spin off, I gained 21 shares of PRSP valued at $507.36 ($24.16/share)

So 3561.60 + 507.36 = $4,068.96. My total value has gone down about 2.66%. The "purchase date" for my PRSP shares show May 24, not June 4.

    Some other notes:

The whole deal was structured as a 'Reverse Morris Trust' transaction, thereby making the entire transaction as tax-free to DXC Technology and its shareholders. Upon completion of this transaction, DXC stockholders received 1 share of Perspecta for every 2 shares of DXC held in the company as of record date May 25.

    and

DXC currently has a Zacks Rank #4 (Sell). Notably, the stock has underperformed the industry to which it belongs to in the year-to-date period. DXC has lost 12.1% of its value in the said period, while the industry has gained 10.1%.

    Implication of Microsoft acquiring Netflix

    Posted: 04 Jun 2018 09:18 AM PDT

I'm a rookie and have a question: I own stock in both Microsoft and Netflix. How would the share prices of each change if Microsoft bought Netflix? Would they both go up?

Do you think such an acquisition is likely? It sounds like some nonsense that a Motley fool writer dreamed up as some clickbait.

What do you all think? How would it change the landscape?

I don't want to be a day trader, I plan to invest for the long term like 2-3yrs+. I don't know which broker site to use so do you have any suggestions for my case?

How do companies like BUX make money?

    Posted: 04 Jun 2018 01:36 AM PDT

Okay so I'm a beginner when it comes to stocks and as I don't invest much, £10-20 here and there, I use the app BUX as it has super low buy and close fees. BUX also however doesn't have a spread so I started thinking 'how on earth are they making money?' Idk exactly how traders work but surely they have a lot of fees and that they had to pay for facilitating the transactions of the people who use there app. And other traders charge like £5 to open and then close the trade. How can BUX charge so much less?
