    Tell us about your startup!

/r/startups wants to hear what you're working on! Contest mode is on, so remember to select 'Show All' to see all the replies. If you don't see your post, you probably need to load more comments at the bottom. Also, all posts are sorted randomly, so the sort function doesn't seem to work.

How do people test their websites now?

    Posted: 02 Jun 2018 12:21 AM PDT

Are the website owners relying on manual testing for their key flows? It does slow down the release process as sometimes QA takes quite some time to check all flows and also moreover some of the cases are not even possible with manual testing like of you have to check an input field for too many input types etc. I think Selenium coding also require a lot of investment upfront for automating test flows as we still need programmers to write test cases which might not be the best use case of their time. As an SME it might not be the best option. Do people use any of the modern tools for test automation which usually records and replays? People are doing a lot of stuff in testing automation but I am not sure whether people trust such tools which are mostly browser extensions for recording their actions.

What does product market-fit feel like, in reality?

    Posted: 01 Jun 2018 11:44 AM PDT

If you've ever been there, please explain how you got there and what it feels like.

When starting out, marketing can feel excruciating with little to no results until you find a channel/starving audience to drain.

Even then, even if your marketing yeilds great results you don't really feel like people are throwing themselves over your product... Until you've found product market fit.

That perfect balance of features, value and price.

What's your experience of how it feels like?

Is it when customers start approaching you? Is it when the selling starts getting easier?

Does it feel like the market is dragging you forward?

Am I required to report any illegal activity that happens on my website?

    Posted: 01 Jun 2018 10:08 PM PDT

    This is a hypothetical question.

Let's say I hypothetically owned some kind of forum. It has some mild moderation.

Some dude posts something illegal on the forum: for example, that he's selling illegal drugs. He gets reported by a user and we ban him.

Would we also be required to alert the relevant authorities (e.g. DEA or FBI) about this? In fact, where is the line drawn as to what should be reported VS what doesn't need to be?

I've looked all over the Internet but can't find a clear answer for this. Does reddit report all users who claim to own/sell illegal drugs for example? What about those who make threats of harm or self-harm? What if the user is e.g. in the UK?

    Thanks!

A proposal from the US government to remove the international entrepreneur rule.

    Posted: 01 Jun 2018 09:05 AM PDT

So apparently the US department of homeland security is proposing to make it harder for certain foreign entrepreneurs to temporarily come and build their businesses there.

The proposal is a bit vague but I really hope it won't be voted...

And as I need to write 500 words, I will just ask a question: do you know how many US startups have founders and/or executives coming from foreign countries such as India, Iran, Russia, and the like? Too many to count!

Seeking advice on what services should I offer and how to promote

    Posted: 01 Jun 2018 07:58 AM PDT

From my previous businesses, I've learned a lot of very useful skills. When I've heard one of the friend's company paid more than £1000 for a 30days very plain website design, I believe I could do it a lot quicker and for much less money since I have done a few websites for my own business before. Then I build my own design agency website and start to apply for jobs in Upwork and Peopleperhour. I know I'm new in this freelance market, so I charged £300 for website design in 7 days in the proposals to gain experiences. I don't think it's too much to ask, but it's been one month and I still haven't got any jobs.

I understand the web design business is a bit crowded and I should be patient. But maybe change the approach would be better or offer services that are not just like every other logo, graphic website design services would get better results.

    1. How about changing the business into the design-as-a-service? Flat fee every month for all type of design works.
    2. I've hared specializing in one service instead of generalizing. Maybe just focus on one area of the services? how about only web design?
    3. I have knowledge of Chinese online market and have FBA experience. Maybe focus on Chinese sourcing, Chinese influencers or website translation? Is the market big enough?
    4. Or maybe having a private label website, we handle from sourcing to e-commerce & marketing setup for small businesses.

what would you do if you were in my position?

Also, the most important part of the service business is finding the lead. I've read some posts here, but almost all of them already have clients. Any suggestions for starters would be appreciated.

Problem striking off ltd. company from Companies House register?

    Posted: 01 Jun 2018 06:53 AM PDT

I am trying to fill out a balance sheet to strike my company off but keep getting this error, no matter what figures I put in:

"Make sure 'Total net assets or (liabilities)' (box AC68) for the period you're filing for matches 'Total shareholders' funds' (box AC80)". My ltd. company has done no business at all, made no profits or losses.

Info for my company: number of shares = 100, aggregrated nominal value = 0.5, total aggregrate unpaid = 50. All in GBP.

It seems impossible to get these two boxes to match. Has anyone else been in a similar situation? This is slightly worrying for me. Any advice is appreciated.

    Thank you
