I want to use Kickstarter to fund the development of an app. I have everything laid out but I don't want, in some miracle that it's a good idea, have it stolen.

The BLS recently came out with a study on the gig economy. Many reports claimed the gig economy was stagnant because there hasn’t been an increase in independent contractors. However this study didn’t measure side hustles. The number of diversified workers has been increasing.

The 'gig economy' isn't just made up of 2nd class workers who get low pay and no benefits. There are many workers who love their jobs and get paid well. The rise of the 'gig economy' isn't a bad thing and it's also not solely focused on millennials who can't afford basic necessities. As you can see from the Indeed chart below, the largest category of independent contractors are 65 years old or older.

How To Scale Your Business Better

    Posted: 08 Jun 2018 07:24 AM PDT

Hitting the ground running and keeping your momentum is important if you want to keep achieving new heights in terms of business success. Coming face to face with a wall and getting comfortable with the lack of any new actions can be detrimental and can be the very reason why your business, as a whole, stop innovating. When innovation dies, so to will your business in a matter of months or years.

An article I have come across talks about how you can continuously scale your business efficiently and without the usual red tape hassle.

Here is a summary of that helpful article:

    • Keeping the communication up and easy between you and all of your staff. Let your staff have the chance to give more input regarding the processes and workflows they are heavily involved in, especially when the concern is about making them more efficient.

    • Keep all lines and channels of communication up and easy to use. I know this can be really hard for large companies, but there is always a way. Instead of creating channels where there are hundreds of members, break them into smaller teams with a designated leader who can pass any concern to the rightful manager or officer.

    • Have a better grasp of what your individual team members can do. Give those with special skillsets the chance to actually shine and thrive with their unique talent that is very helpful and relevant to the company.

    • Centralize your database, especially when it concerns your daily processes so that the people who are involved can easily access them no matter where they are. This way, you preventing or minimizing your bottlenecks.

    • If you have established the right system, chances are, you can easily gather data of different kinds. Use this very system to study staff performance and what areas they are performing well and what needs more close scrutiny and improvements.

    • Create small teams when it comes to handling special projects. This is very efficient because you can easily pull out people from different departments with different and strategic talents to handle sensitive projects. When all is done, you can always disband them and put them back to their original groups.

    • Less hierarchy means less money spent on promotions and specially titled people whose jobs can be done by your other employees as just part of their obligation.

    • Small teams are very agile and easy to manage and accomplish more works compared to a convoluted organization that has a lot of red tapes.

    • with the right processes and instructions in place, small teams do not need a lot of micromanaging. One person can function on a lot of things and a small team can run an entire company, given that you have established a solid business system.

    • When problems crop up, small teams have a better way of handling and solving them because of the fact that there are less red tape and persons of authority to answer to, other than one or two managers and the CEO himself.

    • Small teams are better at innovation and creativity. Because of the fact that they are few, most team members take on the work of two or three persons and find more ways on how to accomplish them efficiently.

child business different From registered name

    Posted: 08 Jun 2018 07:14 AM PDT

I am starting a company that will have multiple branded products. I want to register "ABC company" - which my banking, accounting and taxation will be attached to. Online, I want to have "someproduct.com" and build a brand around that. When I sell one of someproduct it would appear as ABC company on the customer's credit card statement and the product itself would state in various places that it's a brand of ABC company.

I'm trying to streamline my idea by having an umbrella brand that has child brands.

Is this legal in Canada? I don't know who to ask. I just know I will likely want to make multiple products but I don't want to have to register and administratively maintain multiple companies, business numbers, tax numbers and so on.
