Designing a Website for your Business Tutorial [Part 1] Posted: 04 Jun 2018 07:28 PM PDT This tutorial is cross-posted from r/OrderedOperations and can be found here. Subscribe for access to the full tutorial as it is released. This week I'll be doing a tutorial on the basics of web design for your business or any website that you'd like to promote. This tutorial will cover the basic HTML and CSS you'll need to keep your business up and running. For Part 1 I'll be going into the basics of how to prepare in order to have a successful business later on. Picking a domain name - Needless to say, many people get stuck on what they see as the very first step of web design. However, the truth is that you should focus on developing your website first before you put it online. That means you need relevant content that others might find useful. Remember, content first, then design, then branding. For now, here's an article to help you decide on a domain name, but we'll cover that more in detail later. First step - Download Notepad++ or a similar tool If you have Windows, this should be easy. Then start a document called index.html. Creating a basic design The first thing you'll want to do is divide your website into <div> elements. Think about reddit. They have the top header, header, main area, and sidebar. If you wanted to have a similar design, start out with the following code. Here's an HTML tester to try it out on. Add relevant information Once you have this basic design (give or take the sidebar) all you need to add is some basic information and incorporate design features. But first, make sure you're adequately prepared to take your business to the next step. Work with other Web Developers This becomes useful later on, as it can take anywhere from 5 to 30 people to keep a website running depending on how big it is. Get a social media account with your business name, if available Like domain names, these can get snatched away unless you have an obvious copyright or are famous enough for social media companies to oblige and reserve your business name for you if it's not copyrighted (e.g. Apple). Further design features will be covered in the next tutorial. Anything I missed? Respond in the comments. [link] [comments] |

Screwed over by Comcast?? Saying I can’t change my service Posted: 04 Jun 2018 03:34 PM PDT Hello. I am a college student who has been renting an apartment with a few of my buddies for the past few years. When we moved in, there was some Comcast rep. that was going door-to-door trying to get people to sign up for Comcast under some sort of college student saving plan. After the first year, the plan no longer gave me the discount (which was about 25-30$ off 99 channels and fastest WiFi available). When I went online to change our plan, i was unable to do so. Calling their customer service, I talked to some lady that pretty much told me I would not be able to do so at this time. I never signed a contract after the first year when the rep was walking down my street. I would like to change my plan so that I am not paying for all this crap we don't really need. I know cable companies do stuff like this all the time, and was just wondering if anyone had some tips for me to help deal with this without paying a hefty fee. Thanks [link] [comments] |

Advantage of Employing Automation In Your Business Posted: 04 Jun 2018 07:10 AM PDT When you are managing a business, having high mobility in order to cater to the needs of the different elements is not only important but also very advantageous. This is because of the fact that you have a lot of processes involved and some, if not most, are lengthy and a cause for some of your employees to cut corners in order to save time. When this happens, the integrity and standard of your operation go down leading to a whole lot of problems and revenue loss. But because of technology and constant innovation, business owners now have a way to avoid this and make their businesses more efficient, thanks to automation. An article I have read recently talks about 7 advantages when you use automation as part of your business. Here is a short summary of that article:
