    For those that didn't pass

Don't give up. The CPA exam blows and the real secret of passing the exam is to keep trying. I found out today I passed my last exam (minus the ethics exam) after a year and a half of trying. There were so many times I wanted to stop, but I didn't and now I'm 4/4 after all the tears, BS, etc. I finally beat this thing

    • FAR: 59, 71, 81
    • AUD: 71, 78
    • BEC: 75 (PERFECT SCORE)
    • REG: 71, 84

I matched with my b4 recruiter on Bumble.

    Posted: 27 Jun 2018 12:38 PM PDT

    Little background:

I'm starting my senior year at a big D1 school this upcoming fall and I still have no internship or full-time offers. This is primarily due to my 2.8 GPA. I understand accounting, but I never study. I'm a social butterfly that likes to party and have a good time. It's hard to pass up all the young pussy running around on campus.

I'm a pretty good looking guy that's tall and muscular and a member of a Top-House Fraternity, so I'm basically a Chad. My looks have always led me to success and have caused me not to try as hard as my peers in academics.

But now it's costing me, but so I thought.

    Actual story:

So I'm at home on Bumble swiping right furiously to maximize my potential matches, and then I match with someone that looks oddly familiar. Turns out its a b4 recruiter that frequents my campus. I've met her previously at one of their social events and recognize her from the career fairs. She's a good looking gal, just like all the other female b4 recruiters.

Anyways, she messages me with the typical hey how's it going type spiel. Then it took a turn when she asked me to message her on Kik.

Her message reads verbatim: "Kik me username and do whatever I say"

At this point I'm a little turned on and a little scared, but I get on Kik to play along and see where it goes. She asks me over Kik to send her a video of myself winking at her while repeating "I'm ready to serve".

My first instinct is fuck no, that's weird I'm not into that, I only like vanilla missionary sex. But I've been thinking lately that obeying her and letting her potentially dominate me, might be my only way into the revolving door of public accounting. What should I do?

TLDR; Should I let a b4 recruiter dominate me so I can have that b4 work experience on my resume?

I just got into an Auditor position and it is overwhelming me.

    Posted: 27 Jun 2018 06:45 PM PDT

First day, I am given a handbook and a guide for the procedures and rules that goes a long with each audit, and what the auditor should look for.

I have been reading the guide while at work, and it has been overwhelming me. I don't know where to start.

What should I do to survive, and how should I learn?

    Career Advice

    Posted: 27 Jun 2018 06:03 PM PDT

I am a good candidate at a non-target school that was able to land an internship this Summer at a middle market top 10 firm in assurance. My long term goal is to get into consulting/advisory, but coming from a non-target, that has been difficult.

Also..coming from a non-target, it was difficult to get my foot in the door at a Big4 firm, but was fortunate enough to be offered an internship for next Summer in Risk Assurance at a Big4.

The question I am battling with is what is my best route to get into consulting. I know it is difficult to go from audit to consulting which is why I have come up with the following options.

    1. Accept the Big4 risk assurance offer-- grind 2/3 yrs-- then try and move into Transaction Services or MBA, then to consulting at big4 or MBB.
    2. Leverage the Big4 offer at the middle market firm to try and get them to offer me another internship in advisory for next year--grind for 2/3 years--then re-recruit for big4 consulting/advisory or MBB.

Obviously things could change, but Im just looking for some advice as to what is the best route to get to where I want to go. Its been difficult because of the school I go to. If anyone has any other better routes, Im open to hearing them. I guess my goals are to have the best salary I can at the best firm I can get into. If I do get an MBA id want to get it from a Target top 10 school which will need a few years at a Big4 probably.

Other info: Finance & Accounting Major. Due to sports, I'm on a 5 year track. So Im looking for an internship for next Summer. Then Full time or another Internship for the Summer after.

Choosing between big 4 firms, one firm is better in everyway but in the other firm I really liked the partners, does that matter?

    Posted: 27 Jun 2018 01:38 PM PDT

One firm had more "technical" benefits as in it has lower turnover, more vacation days, let me intern in both commercial and financial, so strictly better than the other. However, the people were equally as fine as the other firm, the difference was this firm had boring partners. Felt like, do your job, leave your job type job.

The other firm had way cooler partners. My interviewer had his feet up on the table. I stop and talk to one whenever I see him at events to talk about camping and hiking. Another interviewer still emails me to chat. In "partner Free time" thing, everyone I talked to was super cool and ez to talk to. but they offer 2 weeks less vacation so idk how cool they are.

    Opinions ?

Deciding Career Path. Internal Tax at F500 or Top 15 Accounting Firm

    Posted: 27 Jun 2018 09:01 PM PDT

Hey guys. Trying to get some advice on deciding where I should take my career. Right now I work as a intern in a public company doing tax (ranked in the 200s). I think I could secure a full time job with them if I wanted. They already have started to feel me out on whether I want to stay or not. Really nice brand new office, probably reach manager in 5 years if I play my cards right. Only thing is.. the culture. No one fucking chats, like ever. Very depressing, I could bite the bullet for the money but I have other options. They also don't pay for cpa exam or study material.

I just got an offer a few days ago for an internship with a top 15 accounting firm. Most likely get full time as long as I perform well which I think will not be an issue. They give the same starting as any other firm would plus they will pay for the cpa and study and even give a bonus for passing in a year. The people seem super fucking chill too. Im just worried if Im limiting myself by going to a smaller place. The public company is alot larger and the work more similar to what someone from a larger cpa firm would do. Also the office isn't nearly as nice (this is a nitpick it has no actual factor into my decision) But I think its better to start in public and work your way out to the internal/private side. Also, it seems the public company really likes to retain their interns, I have a feeling if I don't like the midsize cpa firm as long as I leave on good terms with where Im at now I could come back

So what are your overall thoughts on this? Am I hurting myself by going to a bit of a smaller company? I know it is ultimately my decision and I have to make it myself but some other perspectives will definitely help!
