I know what it’s like to lose. To feel so desperately that you’re right, yet to fail nonetheless. Dread it. Run from it. Destiny still arrives. Or should I say, I have.

Here is my real world "If I can do it so can you" post.

    Posted: 28 Jun 2018 05:34 AM PDT

I just found out yesterday that I passed my final CPA exam. This is not a humble brag, just look at my scores and you will see I don't have anything to brag about.

This post is for anyone who, like me, assumed they weren't smart enough to pass the CPA exams. I wanted to emphasize that passing the CPA exams doesn't require a 4.0 Acc GPA, Beta Alpha Psi, a B4 internship, a Master's in Accounting, or Becker. I didn't have any of those things. They definitely help, but aren't required. When I started studying I didn't believe that all you needed to do was put in the effort and you will pass, but that is completely true.

My job didn't pay for materials so I used Ninja and Google. I have a full time job and was working on a Masters two nights a week, studying for the CPA exams on the weekends, and planning a wedding. I won't sugarcoat it, studying for these exams, especially after failing a section sucks. It is hard and seems impossible, but it is not.

    My scores:

    B: 83

    A: 63, 74, 84

    R: 57, 79

    F: 76

You bet your ass I wanted to quit after I got a 57 on REG or got a 74 on my AUD retake. You will probably want to quit multiple times. My advice, if you are going to quit, quit early. After I passed my first section I realized that if I gave up at any point, all the time I dedicated to this stupid exam would be for nothing. All the nights and weekends away from my family and friends, the money I had spent on materials, applications, and tests would all be gone and I would be no better off because of it.

Moral of the story: the exam is hard, but it is definitely not impossible, put in the work and you will pass eventually. It is really that simple.

    Help me pass BEC

    Posted: 28 Jun 2018 08:43 PM PDT

I already passed AUD and REG. I took BEC for the fourth time and failed. Here are my scores: 70,70,69,69

I've used becker then switched to rogers then back to becker + ninja. I didn't finish all the ninja questions though. Please advise on how to study for my retake. I'm hopeless.

I packed the wrong clothing for an interview, how bad is it to be overdressed?

    Posted: 28 Jun 2018 08:05 PM PDT

So the dress code is business casual, I absentmindedly packed my pinstripe suit and am not sure if I should just take the pants/collared shirt, or go in with the suit and tie at this point. any advice? The day will also have an office tour/presentation component.

Does anyone have any idea about the normal starting salary in Hawaii? I am having trouble finding the numbers. From what I can tell Hawaii's average pay is among the lowest.

    KPMG LA audit

    Posted: 28 Jun 2018 04:58 PM PDT

Anyone know what kind of audit clients (industries) the KPMG Los Angeles office primarily specializes in? I know Herbalife and Skechers were two SEC clients from years ago that left due to the Partner's insider trading scandal.

Anyone have more information on current clients/industries? (For example is the office heavy on real estate, financial services, construction, consumer goods, etc.)?

Any thoughts or insight would help, thanks.

    For those waiting for BEC

    Posted: 28 Jun 2018 04:46 PM PDT

I have been religiously checking the NASBA portal and my score report for FAR just came in. I took FAR and BEC in the same testing window. Upon checking my score report it shows a credit for BEC! If you have taken BEC with another test in the same window this is definitely worth a shot to get your pass/fail result a little earlier!
