A year past since I left an Allstate agency Posted: 28 Jun 2018 10:39 PM PDT I have a legitimate concern with the way Allstate runs, at least in Virginia. The whole thing seemed very MLM to me. I worked for a woman who owned an Allstate agency who told me the buy-in to own an agency required enormous sums of money, you then have to spend thousands out of pocket for your store's signs, to furnish your office according to Allstate's standards, you'll have to buy Allstate marketing products and Allstate approved everything. It was wild. Then based on the size of your book of business (the book she bought from a previous agency owner) Allstate provided an allotment for payroll and the electricity bill. That was about it. That seems fairly standard if it wasn't for the amount of sales that came from the 800 number versus the amount of sales produced from the office. Captive agents can't sell dick when the product costs too much. No one wants expensive insurance, everyone will just call elephant or the general. Maybe it was just my experience but I didn't sell anything with the awful leads that my boss would buy. They were 100% dead phone numbers and then apparently Allstate judged my boss on my sales, which ultimately I got cut because my sales weren't good enough, because her fucking leads were bad. I was 21, she told me to go to the bars and hand out business cards to my friends. Talk to my classmates (I just finished school this past May) about insurance (what college student is buying insurance for anything?) This woman wanted me to sell renters policies and schedule personal property for 20 year olds. Explaining the importance of that to a 20 year old is just impossible. I get that I wasn't recruiting more salespeople for money so it wasn't a pyramid scheme, but owning an agency like that just sounds horrible and it reeked of never making any money. Her goal was to eventually sell the agency to make a profit (her husband made so much money at his own job to support her. I literally heard him tell her he had to leave the office when he was visiting to make money to support her hobby, which was the Allstate office.) after owning that agency for years I can't imagine she would ever sell it for enough to divide the profit by the years she owned it to say "I made anything over $15,000 a year for each year I owned this shit heap" Seriously, who buys into that kind of business model? Is there something I'm missing? [link] [comments] |
[CA] Life Insurance conditional receipt expired Posted: 28 Jun 2018 08:04 PM PDT I'm undergoing underwriting for Life Insurance and received a letter saying my conditional receipt coverage has been expired as they haven't received a "properly completed signed application and all medical examinations and test results" within 45 days. I reached out to my insurance agent but haven't gotten a hold of her yet about this. I submitted a complete application and my agent reviewed my application as well. Then it took weeks and weeks in underwriting with the carrier dragging their feet. They then requested a paramed exam. The paramed exam agent fucked up and didn't take my blood pressure despite me asking the paramed and the paramed saying isn't it necessary and then raising the issue with my agent. It took another week before they got someone else to administer the blood pressure. Two more weeks later the life insurance company requested that I redo the urine exams, this time requiring two of them back to back in a 24 hour period. Due to the 24 hour request the soonest the paramed company could schedule them out was a couple of weeks. Now I got this letter and I no longer have conditional receipt coverage. Is it possible to get said coverage renewed? Is the life insurance company acting in bad faith by dragging things out so long? I'd be happy to pay for more premiums on the conditional receipt to keep coverage in force. They never withdrawn the first premium from my bank account(which I let my agent know about.) I'd be happy to keep paying premiums until underwriting comes to a decision. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Jun 2018 06:29 PM PDT I mentioned to my doctor that I occasionally share (once every few days) drags of a cigarette with friends. I don't regularly smoke. I looked at my medical records from this visit and it says "current smoker", which concerns me as now I'm lumped in with people who smoke regularly. I am very, very concerned about how this will affect my insurance rates if I choose to apply for health insurance in the future (what about life insurance?) Is it unreasonable to ask the medical office to modify my health record to reflect a non-smoker status? If I don't do anything to the records, and quit smoking now, will I need to worry about this brief brush with tobacco affecting my future insurance premiums if I am honest on my app (as I plan to be)? Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Term life Insurance only or with living benefit rider? Posted: 28 Jun 2018 12:42 PM PDT I am trying to get myself a term life insurance of 20 yrs just for my 8 yr old daughter. I requested for a quote and they also sent me a term life with living benefit rider. I read through it. They define into three categories, terminal, chronic, specified illness. With terminal and chronic condition, you will get total 50% of your total insurance value. With specific, you will get 25000. I am in early 40's and healthy. Shall I choose to add the rider? I understand each person's scenario is different, just wondering if there is a inclination over one than the other from most people like you... Thank you! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Jun 2018 08:43 PM PDT I have no idea how to navigate this other than I caused an accident, and the two people in the other car were injured (one apparently had neck surgery and the other a back injury). My insurance is waiting on their medical records as the police report indicates that they were walking and moving around fine. However, should I expect my policy with these maximums to cover this? I was in the process of getting off this insurance when the accident happened because it was under my parents umbrella policy who I do not have a relationship with. I really do not want them involved or knowing because they are toxic, so I am wanting to know If the 250k/500k is likely to cover it as that was my own policy I paid for under the umbrella of my parents (so they could get additional discounts). Also, should I release my policy limits? What are the pros and cons? [link] [comments] |
Will Progressive Snapshot work if I rarely drive? Posted: 28 Jun 2018 07:43 PM PDT Thinking about switching to Progressive when my crap (but cheap) Geico policy expires in September. My parents have Progressive and are happy. I have two vehicles, neither of which I drive very often. I work from home, 19, licensed for two years. I have an older Challenger that I own outright and truck that is financed. I want comprehensive and collision on both and Progressive just quoted me at $2300/6 months. They suggested joining Snapshot when I purchase my policy. My question: If I maybe take my vehicles out 2-3 times within the 6 month Snapshot period, will that lower my rates from low mileage use (I'm also a safe driver and rarely even hit the highway) OR will Progressive give me some BS like "Not enough driving activity"? I've never heard of that happening, but I'm curious. [link] [comments] |

How can I find out if there are life insurance policies taken out on me? (x-post r/legaladvice) Posted: 28 Jun 2018 11:05 AM PDT I think my abusive ex bf might have taken out a life insurance policy on me against my will, consent and knowledge. I want to know firstly if this is illegal, and secondly is there some way I can look up all life insurance policies taken out on me and who owns them? Is there something I can do if it turns out he does have a policy on me? I am in the US but I can't be more specific publicly as I don't want him to find my reddit account. https://www.reddit.com/r/legaladvice/comments/8u5qtc/how_can_i_find_out_if_there_are_life_insurance/ [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Jun 2018 04:58 PM PDT who's at fault: I had just got in the car, started it, then a passing car came right up to my side, I was confused but I figured she was pressuring me to leave (hovering and making a point) as there were virtually no other parking spots on the street, it did not occur to me that she would just start backing into the space behind me, I was signalling to leave, I started backing up to get the hell out of the spot at the same time pretty much as she did to get in, she said I was sitting there "too long" (I was watching traffic duh LOL) and she just wanted to park (behind me), I got a big dent in my back bumper, her back side panel is scraped and dented, I'm a new driver, I realize in hindsight I should have just sat there while she did whatever but usually people who see someone is leaving their spot wait BEHIND the car leaving and don't sidle up to side (even though I later realized that was her starting to parallel park I guess?), or maybe even just signal that they are doing that, but I'll admit I was a bit tired, it felt like mutual dumb actions, I am a very cautious driver usually [link] [comments] |
Best options for P&C and life/accident/sickness licensing in GA Posted: 28 Jun 2018 03:15 PM PDT Hello, I'm looking at possibly getting a job as an agent at a local agency selling insurance. My prior experience in insurance was only as a customer service rep but I still have a lot of knowledge that I believe would help in selling. The agency is requiring that I get my P&C and life/accident/sickness licensing; up until recently I had my 4-40 Personal Lines licensing for the state of Florida but it expired in March. Are there any online courses anyone recommends that won't break the bank? The agent offering the job will reimburse me up to $500.00. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Insurance on a car bought in a private sale. Posted: 28 Jun 2018 12:42 PM PDT Hey all, Just bought a truck in a private sale, going through the process of getting it registered in Virginia and whatnot. A friend of mine said that I don't need to get insurance on the car immediately as I have a grace period of some time, 2 weeks, 30 days. I have Geico, I could call them and ask but I wanted to verify if this is true or no? The car was only $1,000 so I only need liability insurance. While I'm driving it here and there to get inspected and stuff, am I covered temporarily or do I need to get it added to my policy? [link] [comments] |
Speeding ticket consequences on insurance rates Posted: 28 Jun 2018 09:34 AM PDT At the beginning of summer I got a ticket on the highway for going 17 over the speed limit. In PA, that would usually be 4 points on my license. I just had my hearing with my local magistrate and the officer gave me leniency because it was my first citation. I was lucky enough to walk away with a reduced number of only going 5 over the speed limit which means no points to my license but the citation will still show on my record. Will this affect my insurance in any way? [link] [comments] |
FL - Leaky Roof, what to do next? Posted: 28 Jun 2018 06:41 AM PDT No sure how to best phrase the title but here is the LONG situation. My 2004 (according to the inspector I used when I purchased the home) roof survived hurricane Irma and I did not notice any damage. Fast forward a couple of months and we have had a hail storm and a bunch of rain/thunderstorms since. This is when I noticed that there are brown spots on my ceiling around the skylights. I call the insurance company and the adjuster comes out, tell him and show the areas, the gets on the roof. I wait a couple of weeks and my claim is denied. The reason for the denial is the deductible is higher than the repairs. They suggested replacing the skylights. I did my research and called a couple of roof companies and had the skylights replaced about 3 months ago. Fast forward to this week and after many rainy days in Florida, I notice my roof is leaking in non skylight areas and there are more brown spots on the ceiling. Do I call my insurance company again? What are my options if the insurance company denies my claim? Do I call/research roof companies to receive an estimate for a new roof replacement prior to contacting my insurance company? Do I bite the hurricane deductable and file a hurricane claim? My buddy recently replaced his roof and the guy he used was an insurance adjuster. He is trying to get me to use the adjuster for a new roof. My buddy signed off a AOB (which I understand is not well liked on this sub) and the guy used the hail storm instead of the hurricane. The adjuster trotted out an engineer and a roofing company. [link] [comments] |
