I worked in Growth Equity (<100M enterprise value) since graduation. Left that now, and have been working for a few months as an Economist.

I like investing (thinking about businesses and markets is fascinating) and jobs where you need to really research and think deeply. PE didn't give that to me (it's just process process process) and an economist career is challenging, but i miss investing.

I'm thinking a career in equities analysis could really be a great match for me. This has been after trying to learn equities (using /r/securityanalysis, wso and /r/investing) for a few months (didn't really have time while i was in PE). Have yet to stick my beak out and get a job, but apparently i'm in a good position.

Thing is, i've been hearing mixed opinions from people who work in the industry. Was wondering if someone who is or know a professional investor could give a frank opinion on the industry?

What independent ways are there to assess the value of a company to quantify an equity offer?

Is anyone aware of any independent ways or online sources to assess the value of a company to quantify an equity offer?

    I have knowledge of

    - my assigned shares vs all shares

    - the latest 409A evaluation (which translates directly into the strike price?)

    - the strike price

    - the price per share the investor paid in the last round for preferred

Any pointers to sources or ways to get a neutral and independent evaluation of series G company appreciated; trying to baseline the offer that is equity heavy to my current package.
