Travel Insurance for Expat/Backpacker Posted: 30 May 2018 01:46 AM PDT Hey everyone, I am looking for a bit of wisdom. I am a British expat/backpacker who left the UK approximately 3 years ago. I have been living in Australia for the last two years. In the next few weeks I am leaving Australia indefinitely and travelling to Spain for 4 months (no fixed location) and on to New Zealand to live for the next 23 months. I am confused as to what travel insurance policy I am required to take out. From my understanding I do not qualify for Australian insurance as although my trip starts here I am not returning at the end of this trip, and similarly most British policies require you to start and end your trip in the UK (eg. Single/multi trip policy). So what's the deal here? Is there an insurance policy I can take out? Thank you for your guidance and assistance! [link] [comments] |
My health insurance is being denied Posted: 29 May 2018 06:19 PM PDT Pennsylvania U.S.A. So I got into a Motorcycle accident and I went to the hospital. No one else is involved. This pic is what Ive received in the mail. The first is my health insurence saying they're denying my visit because it was a motor vehicle accident. The second is my auto insurance saying they aren't going to pay it either. I knew the auto ins wouldn't, I don't pay fo it. So at the bottom of the first page its says to extend benefits I need those two things. Is the second pic all I need? Am I not understanding this at all? Any info would be great, and if you need more info, just post it, I'll get it to you. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 May 2018 01:49 PM PDT TL;DR - Was in an accident. Liberty mutual admitted fault, took my vehicle, and offered a settlement. Then stated there was a mistake and they aren't liable. Help! Going to try and make this as short as possible. I was involved in a 3 car accident in Texas. Box truck rear ended a car and swerved into the left turn lane as I was turning, causing me to collide with his lift gate. Liberty mutual rep stated they accept full liability. They towed my jeep to inspect for settlement and even offered me a fair settlement amount which I accepted. I was waiting on a FedEx label to ship them the title in order to proceed with payment. Now they called me today and said the rep made a mistake and they will not be paying my claim since I collided with the rear of the truck, even though the truck driver was ticketed at fault and swerved into my lane. They are now taking a very long time to respond to my calls or emails. I was told I would be responsible for the rental car they provided me if I continue to keep it past today. What should I do? Do I have a case against them since they admitted fault and liability and provided me a settlement in writing? [link] [comments] |
Question regarding hit and run claim Posted: 29 May 2018 11:54 PM PDT I have two motorcycles on my insurance policy: my own and my brother's. My brother's bike had been through a hit and run. It was witnessed by his friend and friend's family, since it was parked at his friend's house. I'm told that the people driving the car that backed into it were "shady" and refused to offer any information other than proposing to meeting at a shop to pay for repairs (declined due to "shadiness"). Photos of the damage as well as photos of their license plates were taken before they drove off. A police report was filed. It has been about a month since the incident, but after going through my own insurance to track down the owner of the other party's vehicle, the other party's insurance company refuses to pay for the repairs. They said that they're waiting for the police report to be finalized. Well it was finalized and they still won't pay. It turns out the person that the vehicle is registered to doesn't know who was driving the car at the time. The insurance company refuses to pay for repairs until they find out who was driving because of liability issues. And its been two weeks since they said that they've requested that information from the other party. This company is making it very irritating to settle this issue, constantly giving excuses as to why they're unable to settle our claim. Am I wrong for thinking that they should have authorized repairs by now? It's not our fault that an uninsured driver drove their car. What can I tell them? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 May 2018 08:35 PM PDT Practically new 2018 Subaru. Passenger door damaged. Still shopping it around but my inclination is to go with dealership's shop even though they said the entire door needs replacing -- 3k+ price tag. I'd hoped costs would remain under 1k (my collision deductible) so that I can potentially pay out of pocket, avoid a claim, premium increase (I have a spotless record), and a mark on Carfax report (almost guaranteed?). Not likely given the costs. The shop manager implied that even though I have a 1k deductible, the insurance (Progressive) can waive it and file as something.... else?. I've never heard of that. Frankly, I don't want to call them with a vague inquiry. Any input would be appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Coverage for Privately Rented Equipment Posted: 29 May 2018 06:30 PM PDT Hello everyone. I will be renting some audio equipment from a friend for an outdoor event, total value is $900. Wondering if there is a company who will provide insurance against damage or theft of the equipment under these circumstances? [link] [comments] |
24 y/o on parents’ insurance. What are my rights? Posted: 29 May 2018 05:27 PM PDT I am 24 and still on my parents' insurance plan. Blue Cross Blue Shield. I need to have a doctor's appointment that I believe will not be 100% covered. I'd prefer my parents not know about it. I made my own online account and requested that my EOBs be sent electronically (I was unable to have them mailed to my own address.) Is there anyway I can prevent my parents from getting the bill and have it sent to me instead? Do you have any other tips for young adults seeking privacy on their parents insurance. Changing fire insurance on home. Posted: 29 May 2018 05:24 PM PDT The past couple of years, Company A has been raising the cost of my fire insurance policy. A couple days before the policy ended, I signed up with Company B for their fire insurance. Company A sent me a notice in the mail saying I haven't paid by a certain date and that my policy with them was cancelled. It sounded like I was in the clear. Company A rang me up and informed me that I needed to pay to continue with their policy. I told them I already switched to Company B's policy. They asked me to fax Company B's policy to them so I had the agent from Company B fax them the new policy. Company A came back at me saying they don't trust Company B and that I have to fax them Company B's policy myself. This sounds shady but maybe I am missing an obscure law that requires me to personally fax my new fire insurance policy to the old insurance company. Is this required? I live in California. Does my residence affect my parent's insurance plan? Posted: 29 May 2018 05:09 PM PDT I am 19 and am under my parent's health insurance. I recently signed up for a STATE ID in Pennsylvania and my mom got mad at me for giving my temporary apartment address instead of theirs. She said it would take me off of their plan and make me independent. Is this true? Do I have to change my address to stay under their plan? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 May 2018 04:12 PM PDT Hello r/Insurance! I have a question in regards to car insurance, but first let me give you some background. In February 2017, my mother passed away. Her, my brother and me lived in an apartment in New York; I have lived in New York all my life and receive New York State benefits such as instate tuition, Empire BlueCross BlueSheild, etc. Ever since my mom's passing, I have been staying with my family in Texas much more frequently. I wish to purchase a car here because, in all honesty, I need one to get around and work; however, (as of now) I still attend school in New York State. This is where my confusion lies. I want to drive and have the car insured while I am in Texas (which I have made my "residence") but also want to make sure the car will be insured when I travel back up to New York when school starts back up again. How exactly do I insure this vehicle? Is there any plan that allows me to travel with the car and still be insured? Any help/guidance in this matter would be greatly appreciated! [link] [comments] |
Dental Insurance - who's lying? Posted: 29 May 2018 03:13 PM PDT My 9 y/o daughter and I went to the dentist for a routine cleaning back in March. I just now received a bill from the dentist. They covered most of mine and covered none of my daughter's. We have Humana Dental & Vision through my work. I call the dentist and they say that Humana didn't cover my daughter's claim. I call Humana and I talk to a gentleman and he says that my daughter is under my insurance and is covered for two cleanings a year and that there was a claim made on the date I stated I went for me but not for her. I call my dentist and the lady said that's not true (she so rechecked insurance for her and it is the current one) and goes on to explain how it's filed which I couldn't understand. She then says she'll refile but it will be tomorrow because the mail already ran today. Reason I'm upset is because I had a previous bill that's getting tact on to this from years ago when I wasn't responsible and no insurance (which I will pay). My bill says: Office Visit: $130 Adjustment - Ins. W/O Only 9-12-16: -$30 Payment - Humana SB 3-21-18: -$69 Closing Balance: $31 The breakdown is: EXAM - PERIODIC: $30 BITEWINGS-4: $47 PROPHY-ADULT: $53 Total Fee: $130 My daughter's bill: Office Visit: $99 Closing Balance: $99 The breakdown is: EXAM-PERIODIC: $30 PROPHY-CHILD: $49 Child Flouride: $20 Total Fee: $99 Just confused that when you have dental insurance I've always heard they cover cleanings twice a year but my dentist is saying Humana didn't cover when I called and they say they do? New driver looking to get car insurance.. Posted: 29 May 2018 01:17 PM PDT I'm a permitted 16-year old in California looking to get my license asap (I got my permit in February which means I'm eligible to get my license in August). My parents currently have Geico car insurance and if I were to be added to their insurance policy I would be considered a secondary driver for both of our family cars. Whether or not I get my license in August depends upon Geico being able to offer me cheap insurance. I called Geico yesterday to find out if they could give me a quote, but they said they can't really give me a good estimate until I have my license. I understand that as a new driver my premium will probably be pretty high, but I'm wondering if anyone might be able to give me a good estimate of how much it might cost to be added to my parents' policy. I'm hoping for somewhere in the ballpark of around $800/year (about $67/month). I've read online that insurance providers often offer discounts for having a high GPA (which I'm fairly certain I would qualify for) and for taking behind the wheel training (which is required by my state), but I'm not sure exactly how much these discounts would take off of my premium. I'd really like to know how much I'd be looking at for insurance before I get my license and I'd really appreciate it if someone here could help me out. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 May 2018 12:45 PM PDT Hi I moved to US 7 months ago bought a brand new rav4 and now paying 285$ a month for myself and wife through Geico. We have our US drivers license and as my 6 month of insurance is approaching to an end, I need to either renew or find another insurance. We are both 38 years old and share the car. How should we approach to reduce our insurance cost? We don't have any accidents or any fines. Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Where do I go to see if a company is authorized to do business in my state? Posted: 29 May 2018 08:50 AM PDT I am trying to get appointed with a company but I'm not sure where to find this information. It doesn't seem available on their website. I know other agents in my state that are appointed with this company but I was stilling wanting to know where to go to look for future reference. I just received my license this weekend so I apologize if this is a dumb question. I've looked through my book for the classes I took and it's not in there either. Thanks in advance. Injury as passenger, should I get a lawyer? Posted: 29 May 2018 12:01 PM PDT I was in a car accident a few days ago as the passenger, with the other car clearly at fault. I spent the night in the ER and still have minor symptoms that persist. My insurance said I have to do everything through the driver's insurance, but they are kinda giving me the run-around. And the driver of the car I was in isn't helping. Honestly I just want to know my options. I'm being told to see a doctor for a followup, but I'd think the ER visit alone would be covered in this situation. Should I contact a lawyer? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 May 2018 12:01 PM PDT Hey everyone, I will be writing my CAIB 1 Insurance exam this week and was wondering if anyone else here wrote the same exam before? I would really appreciate any tips as I only have a month to write 3 of these exams and cannot afford to fail any. Thank you! [link] [comments] |
Additional testing for diagnoses after accident Posted: 29 May 2018 11:43 AM PDT About six months ago, I was rear-ended by a vehicle going highway speeds while I was stopped. Initially I was stunned and very tired, and as my husband was due home from a six month military absence that same evening, I just said leave me be. A few days later I did go to the ER, was diagnosed with concussion, cervical strain and lower back strain. Over these following months, I took impact testing a few times and ended up in vestibular rehab for post-concussion syndrome and issues with balance and dizziness, speech therapy for memory and organization issues, was issued a new glasses prescription because my vision changed drastically due to my eyes no longer working in tandem, developed POTS from autonomic nervous system injury, and now have hip surgery scheduled to repair a torn labrum and torn ligamentum teres from the accident. (two months of PT and five months of near-total rest aside from normal daily movement did not heal it). I am seen by a cardiologist and am on meds with drastic lifestyle changes for what will likely be a lifelong heart/brain condition, I have about two months of balance therapy left before I'm at a "not going to improve beyond this point" level, I am seen by a neurologist because I've developed new and different migraines than what I had before, and I've had episodes of feeling extremely detached and frozen or losing time, which my neuro was concerned were seizure activity. So, it sucks. Yes, I have an attorney. My question is about some issues I've developed that have not been diagnosed. First, I have a large area of thigh on the same side as the hip injury that is numb. I can feel deeper inside but the skin is numb. I've had graston technique done on this area as part of hip rehab, and it nearly brought me to tears, but the EMG test came back normal. I don't know how that's possible, I can literally poke a pin in the skin and not feel it unless it goes to a certain depth. An EEG for the odd mental state sensations came back normal but I'm less surprised about that because I felt quite fine that day. However, I live in a very small rural area and frankly I'm pretty sure we get the staff who managed to graduate their courses. Not the staff who are truly skilled and highly competent. (they also missed the fairly obvious labral and ligament tears, as well as a partially dislocated collar bone after the accident, and I have a list of broken bones and diagnoses such as double pneumonia they've missed in imaging for my kids over time.) I'd like to get a second opinion for the numbness, which I know can be linked to lower back or hip injury, because we can't fix it if we don't know what's causing it. My neuro offered more PT for the numbness but that seems silly if we don't even know why it's numb and you're telling me objective testing didn't show that it's numb. (Neuro said it could be small nerve disorder instead of large nerve disorder, and not only is an EMG subjective, but it can't pick up small nerve issues anyway). Or it could be dysautonomia, which POTS is a form of. But I don't want to be seen as doctor shopping. Would it be viewed as shopping for a diagnosis if I have this looked at by someone at a larger teaching hospital, like I did for my hip? [link] [comments] |
Auto Claim Denied. Are there any further steps I can take? Posted: 29 May 2018 10:05 AM PDT We have a 10-year-old family car. About a week and a half ago, somebody pulled out in front of us, and stopped in the intersection. I had to pretty much lock them up, and the quick reaction from me prevented me from T-boning the guy. He would probably have seriously injured, and my family in the car may have been hurt as well. He simply gave us a little wave, and drove off. After starting up again, it became apparent that something was wrong with our car. I crawled it home, and took it to our mechanic, who discovered that the impact of the sudden stop had damaged the subframe. Fast forward to today, where the insurance adjuster denied the claim, calling it "wear and tear," and saying it "would have happened in a week at a stop sign anyway." Obviously, the force of the emergency stop was the main cause. We have had the same insurance company for over 15 years (home and auto), and I've never filed a major claim (once for a windshield, once for a repair to vehicle that had it's side scraped up). Do I have any worthwhile recourse, or is it just time to shop around? EDIT: Thank you for all the replies. I was hoping for a difference between "cause" and "contributing factor." It will make me re-evaluate the way I carry insurance in the future. [link] [comments] |
Figuring out what kind of health insurance I should get Posted: 29 May 2018 06:54 AM PDT Hi! I'm 20 years old and I live in CA. I need affordable health insurance that at least covers dental and vision. I have had braces before but ever since I moved to America, my retainers broke and no one in my family has made an effort to help me get new ones back when I was 16. I had an underbite so I'm kind of scared it will come back. But right now my teeth just has increased spacing between them and only a few are starting to protude outwards. My eyes haven't been checked in two years and I am having some trouble seeing clearly, so I think I need new prescription. I've always had bad eyesight and I just haven't been able to get a check up due to the prices that I may encounter without insurance. All in all, I would really appreciate any guidance you guys can give me. I'm not sure if this is the right sub-reddit because there is also a sub called internetparents. Thank you! Oh! I also have medicaid by covered California I think, but I'm not so sure how much it covers. I've only recently used it for just getting shots and vaccines this past year. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 May 2018 05:50 AM PDT Back in October 2017 I started a new job that offeres immediate benefits. Prior to starting with this job I used my vision insurance with my previous employer in September 2017. It is my understanding that they recommend you have an eye exam every 1-2 years. Our open enrollment period at my new job should be coming up sometime in September. Currently I'm paying $5.90 every other paycheck for vision insurance. I'm entertaining the idea of dropping the vision insurance once the enrollment period comes around since I won't be due for another eye exam for a while. Is this a wise idea? I'm 31 if age matters.
