As earnings season continues, one thing is becoming clear: tech is king.

Coming into Q1 releases, conventional wisdom was that sectors such as energy and financials would be the big winners. Tech, on the other hand, had largely led the moves down over the last couple of months, and was not often mentioned as a place to be. Energy earnings are, as expected, showing tremendous growth, which is hardly surprising if you so much as glance at a chart showing oil prices, while early in the season most financial firms did reveal the expected increase in trading profits.

The headline grabbers, however, have been in tech, and especially big tech.

The big four, Facebook (FB), Amazon (AMZN), Netflix (NFLX), and Google (GOOGL), collectively known as the FANG stocks, have all reported EPS beats, ranging from a penny in the case of Netflix to a massive 168% upside surprise from Amazon. Now that we have all their earnings, it is time to take stock, if you'll forgive the pun.

Do you think these 5 stocks will continue to be good investments?

Tyson Foods reported Q1 growth of 7.2% and then launched the Tyson Meal Kits in April that should boost sales further. Its also just bought American Proteins which should reduce waste and boost margins as the company recycles waste as pet food.

Tyson Foods is never going to rock the world but its trailing PE of 9 looks too cheap for a stock that could grow sales and earnings by close to 10%.

    Posted: 29 May 2018 08:10 PM PDT

Despite all the hate for snap it continues to be one of the most used social media apps among younger users. This stock went up short term and is now back at around 10.50... What do you guys think?

$KOSK set to fly some more tomorrow!

    Posted: 29 May 2018 07:57 PM PDT

I believe we will see $ZOES continue upward. By breaking $9 today it form a support and no real resistance until $11.50. The stock is way oversold. It has a market cap of 170 million on 380 revenue. RSI is 16 and the stock sold off further than it should. Also 98% insider and institutional leaves the float very tiny!

Bear Market ETF - Thoughts on HSD?

    Posted: 29 May 2018 04:50 PM PDT

    Hi everyone,

I heard of this ETF today, under the ticker HSD.

Looks to be a bear ETF that tracks the S&P500. If the SP500 goes down by 1 point, the ETF goes up by 2 points, and vise versa.

With the last decade of bull run running out of steam, and the turmoil in Italy bonds affecting the market, what do you guys think of this ETF to hedge against a potential recession / bear market / market crash?

    Any better options out there?

    Thanks!

    Option questions

    Posted: 29 May 2018 02:23 PM PDT

First, let's say you have a 6/15 call for $10 and Stock jumps to $13. Should you exercise your calls, and sell the stock, or would the gain be similar to selling your contract?

Also, how long does it take to exercise a call option early on Robinhood?

    Thanks for answers

What sort of strategy do you employ with your Roth IRA?

    Posted: 29 May 2018 08:01 AM PDT

I currently have both an individual brokerage and a Roth IRA with E*Trade. I've currently got about 15% of my invested funds in my IRA with the remaining majority in my brokerage. While I have a good number of growth names in my individual brokerage, I've been parking high dividend stocks (UNIT, QTS, TRTN, and JPM at the moment) in the IRA and DRIPing them. I'm 23, so my thinking is that several decades of compounding, tax-free dividends will be extremely powerful.

I'm curious if this is a fairly common strategy or if anyone here employs anything wildly different to take advantage of the tax benefits of a Roth IRA. Thoughts?

I agree with the angle on Blockchain vs Crypto

    Posted: 29 May 2018 11:18 AM PDT

Yes Bitcoin put blockchain into the lime light but blockchain technology on its own is FAR GREATER than just recording bitcoin transactions. For this reason I believe blockchain related companies should be doing MUCH BETTER than stand alone cryptocurrency mining/trading companies. One thing I don't like about it that this article mentions is the role banks will play...I think that's still a big question mark as far as how they will eventually execute . https://medium.com/stock-market-source/blockchain-is-the-future-report-60a8655f4ca

    Prices of stocks?

    Posted: 29 May 2018 08:07 AM PDT

Hi, very noob question. I have been trying out trading 212 and its practice account. With the stocks it just gives a number for the price/value, say 13.51 for AMD. I am using GBP, what are these prices of stocks? How can I know what it is relative to GBP?

Study: what happens next when the stock market swings in a very narrow range

    Posted: 29 May 2018 12:23 AM PDT

The S&P 500 has swung in a very narrow 1% range over the past 12 days. Historically, this is a slightly bullish sign for the stock market on a 2 week - 6 month basis (forward returns).

    Sold my stocks today

    Posted: 29 May 2018 03:30 AM PDT

I am in stocks for over 3 years. Student in Europe who is investing for the future offcourse. Normally i wo'nt touch my stocks at all. I divided them into the tech, food, materials etc. Just index funds. Today i decided to sell them, for me the market feels like it's gonna drop anytime soon.

I will definitely be wrong and the market will continiue to climb (it always does when i sell something). But right now i'm a bit more relieved then i was keeping the stocks.

Also curious what the more experienced traders/holders here are doing at this point. Let me know :)
