Posted: 30 May 2018 02:54 PM PDT OK, so we were out of town this past weekend and prior to leaving, our air conditioner was working perfectly. We come home and the thing is seemingly broken. We called a repair guy who comes and takes a look and said everything looks good until he looks under a wire cover and discovers that a frog somehow got into the unit and caused substantial damage (while electrocuting himself in the process). The air conditioner is shot, and I could no more prevent a tree from falling on my house or a deer from jumping in front of my car... We don't have issues with frogs (in fact, we never see them in our yard). Bottom line: This "peril" isn't listed in the inclusions or exclusions for coverage... What can I do? It's not an infestation. It's an isolated freak incident that I've never heard of happening to anyone else. Thank you in advance for reading my post! :) ETA: We have a "Homeowners Special Form 3" policy (whatever that means 🤦🏼♀️) [link] [comments] |
Question: Diminished Value Claim - NY Posted: 30 May 2018 09:21 AM PDT Back in January I was rear-ended whilst sitting at a light. The other driver admitted 100% fault. We both happened to have Allstate insurance. I ended up being out of my car for a month and a couple days for $9500 worth of repairs. I took it to a dealer to get a quote on the value before and after the collision. $12,000 prior and $9,000 after. The salesman told me he wouldn't even take the car because it has frame damage. I want to pursue a diminished value claim however Allstate is saying that I have no claim to anything as the car was fixed and NY state doesn't allow diminished value claims. The owner of the body shop owner told me to just keep bothering them about it until they give in and settle with me. It's been months and I'm sick of dealing with them and hearing that I'm not entitled to anything. What can I do in this situation? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 May 2018 01:39 AM PDT I had no idea they were sending me to an out-of-network facility and did what I was supposed to do because it's my doctor. Had I known I was being sent to an out-of-network office and would be paying that much for an MRI, I would have most assuredly gone elsewhere. Is it possible to negotiate the price down? Posted: 30 May 2018 09:30 PM PDT My girlfriend and I were driving in a Mazda 3, a pretty small car. We turned left on a green light behind a large white truck (Ford Explorer). Immediately after he turned, he stopped to try to parallel park. I stopped immediately behind him, probably about 6-ish feet behind. His truck is way higher than my car. I saw his reverse lights go on, but I couldn't back up any further (the intersection was right behind me). He began backing up, I started honking, he didn't stop (I honked for a good 3 seconds). He ended up reversing into me. The damage is small (a few scratches and a small dent), but the estimate is now $1800. We decided not to go through insurance because the damage seemed so minimal. We sent him the estimate, now he's claiming that he "looked it up", we're "both at fault" and we should cover our own damages. Now it's looking like this is going to be a battle, and insurance is currently somewhat out of the picture, unless I can get him to go back in. Is there any merit to what he said? I couldn't reverse, he had some space but couldn't see me at all. [link] [comments] |
Short term disability insurance Posted: 30 May 2018 09:03 PM PDT I have a couple of questions about these policies. I have my health interview for the policy I'm trying to buy in a couple of weeks.

Posted: 30 May 2018 02:34 PM PDT Long story short, a month ago my wife was turning left in our 2017 Subaru Outback (9 month old lease with 6k miles), when a 2009 Tesla Roadster smashed into her front passenger wheel. She's at fault, Tesla is totaled. That's all cut & dry. A tow truck quickly arrived and took our car to an "authorized Subaru repair shop." This repair shop seems fine, but when Geico sent over a used suspension part, the shop rejected it and had it sent back, claiming our car needs a new suspension due to its limited age and mileage. Geico says that suspension was fine since it had less miles than our car and are refusing to pay full price for a new one, and now no used one at that same price is available. So they are going back and forth with the body shop and we're stuck in the middle without a vehicle. We have 21 days of rental car usage through Geico which will be up at the end of this week. We've pleaded with Geico and with the body shop and they keep simply pointing the finger at each other. What can we do? Are there any options for us? Geico says the body shop is in the wrong, body shop says Geico is screwing us over. It's been a month and no repairs have been started to our car. Should we hire a lawyer? File a complaint with the California Department of Insurance? How do we get them to stop arguing and actually fix our vehicle? Thanks in advance. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Car accident claim. Am I doing this right? Posted: 30 May 2018 03:18 PM PDT Days are business days. Day 1: Accident. Hit in the side by another driver. Police comes, makes a report, issues citation to other driver. I drive home and that night and file claims with Geico (mine) and Liberty Mutual (theirs). I send pictures to both. Day 2: I talk to both companies and issue recorded statements over the phone (both). I ask LM (Liberty Mutual) about the timeframe. They say depending on when police report arrives, but said usually at least 5 business days. Day 5: Police report is available. I pay for and download it. Day 6: I call LM and ask if they got the report. They say no, because another company supplies that to them. I email them the report and ask again how much until an update. They say 2 business days. I get a follow up from Geico telling me they did not find me at fault. I also supply the police report to Geico. Later that day I get an official email from Geico that I am not at fault. Day 7: Today. Wondering if I should follow up with LM again. Other info: My car is low cost, paid 3k when I bought it 2 months ago. I am worried about it being totaled by this as a body panel and a door is damaged and won't open. Collision happened in WA. I reside in CT, other driver resides in WA. Questions:

Medical insurance not covering procedure while I was in mental hospital Posted: 30 May 2018 10:16 AM PDT While in mental hospital I was told I needed to get a series of ECTs as if my life depended on it. The dr and anesthesiologist were billed in network, just the facilities itself was billed out of network. Now this comes out to $20k+. Being in a psych ward having my brain receive shocks obviously didn't put me in a clear headed place. I must have but don't remember signing anything. Do I have any recourse? I don't understand what I should have done differently. I was in a hospital, in a very vulnerable place, doing what Drs were telling me to do. [link] [comments] |
Other driver avoiding insurance and paperwork, unsure what to do Posted: 30 May 2018 03:03 PM PDT Long story short, was driving my parents car in California and bumped someone's rear bumper. He got out and took my phone number and the car's license plate number, I got his phone and name and license plate. He left and said he would rather not involve insurance (it's an old rather beatup car he was driving). It's the first time I've ever been involved in any type of auto accident so I didn't know what to do on the spot so I parted way after we exchanged names and numbers. I asked about filing a report or exchanging insurance, but he said not to, and in my nervousness/lack of experience I didn't push it. He called and wants me to give him $750.00 cash for his bumper, which he plans on repainting himself after ordering a part that he claims is busted. I want him to go through my insurance, he keeps rambling about not wanting to and about the hassle of filing. How do I get him to simply go to my insurance with his claim instead of calling em about it? What happens if I do nothing? Should I file a report, and if so, what kind? Not sure what to do, I've never dealt with this before. I'm 23 in California if that matters, on my parents car insurance driving my dad's car. [link] [comments] |
Car backed into me in parking lot. What happens next? Posted: 30 May 2018 05:56 PM PDT I was driving in a Walmart parking lot and stopped at a stop sign. A gentlemen in a white suv didn't see me and reversed into the rear passenger side of my car. I have damage but not major. We exchanged information and then left. Should I have called the police? Is it worth going through insurance or will they claim it was 50/50 because it's a parking lot? This is in Ontario, Canada [link] [comments] |
Deductible question - California Posted: 30 May 2018 01:52 PM PDT My husband was in an accident a few weeks ago and the car is totaled. He was not at fault and there is a police report that says the other driver was in the wrong. We just received the settlement letter from insurance and they are taking our deductible out of the amount offered. We are fine with the amount that they're giving us for our car but believe that the other driver should be paying our deductible since she was at fault. Is this something that can be fixed just by simply asking the insurance adjuster for the extra? It's been incredibly difficult to get in contact with the adjuster so I wanted to see if this is even possible before spending another week trying to contact them. [link] [comments] |
Auto Quote: any gaps that I should be aware of? Posted: 30 May 2018 12:20 PM PDT I am preparing to accept a quote from Progressive for auto insurance. This is not something that I have familiarity with, so I am worried that I've potentially made poor choices when choosing the specifics of the coverage. My concern boils down to either omitting certain coverage or having inappropriate selections. I have an older car, probably worth only a few thousand USD. Do the below selections seem reasonable? For reference, I went with Progressive's default options, or 'recommended':

Damage to siding by third party Posted: 30 May 2018 12:03 PM PDT A contractor did some accidental damage to my siding (one side of the house) it now covered from the ground half way up to the roof with little speckles. They tried to remove the dots but without much success. I talked to a siding company who said in order to 'fix' it the whole house had to be resided, they cannot only do one side of the house as it wouldn't match the rest. I talked with my home owner's insurance and they said I could file a claim with them, but they would go after the guy's insurance/company. What would happen if his insurances does not pay up? Would my insurance personally go after the guy and he would have to pay out of pocket or would my insurance eat the cost? Are there any hard and fast rules how those things shake out? Car insurance for a resident with foreign driving experience? Posted: 30 May 2018 10:49 AM PDT I've had my French driver's license since 2009 but I just got my CA license. The quotes that I'm getting for car insurance don't seem to take into account my driving experience in France, so I can't afford them at this time. Do you know any car insurance companies that would probably give me a lower quote because of my general driving experience? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 30 May 2018 10:57 AM PDT 18 months with Progressive (homesite) and considering a change. Reading homesite reviews, I am concerned I should have an agent see my house so I don't have to worry about anything being canceled upon any claims. The numbers are artificially impressive but only help me if they pay out claims. Auto insurance claims to be down 400/year with geico for equal coverage but maybe somehow that will go up. I did accurately report our driving records as Progressive lists. Combined discount may not be as good as the best rate or coverage concerns. Low mileage city driver in older house if it matters. [WA] When does an insurance claim expire? Is mine expired? Posted: 30 May 2018 10:54 AM PDT A driver hit me mid July 2017. After about a month of back and forth with his insurance I had camera footage of my car being hit by the insured driver. They agreed to pay for repairs to my bumper but refused to admit the structural damage to axle was from the driver. I got frustrated and stopped being in touch with the claims officer. At this point is it too late to call back and still acquire money for the bumper damage? Haven't talked to them since early August. [link] [comments] |
IL - 2014 Audi hit by a delivery driver; what am I entitled to? Posted: 30 May 2018 09:10 AM PDT Okay, so two weeks ago a giant produce truck backed into my car and smashed up the front. They had Nationwide Agriculture insurance, I have GEICO. Because Nationwide's accepted full liability, I'm going with them for the damages. Now here's the thing: the estimate they wrote (that I brought to the body shop I want to use) doesn't use a labor rate to cover my body shop's work. Is Nationwide responsible for that? Secondly, in arguing for OEM replacements for my hood, grill, etc. is it usually enough to just have the body shop say that CAPPA replacements are not like kind and quality? Thirdly... diminished value. I know I need a DV appraisal from either the body shop or a third-party company. Is there anything else I need to know? Finally: the rental car. I know I'm entitled to a rental so that not having a car doesn't impact my life, but am I entitled to a rental that approximates my lost vehicle? (I.E. another luxury car rather than, say, a Kia Rio?) I'm just trying to make sure I'm not missing anything here: I freaking hate dealing with this garbage. Any insight would be tremendously appreciated. Thank you! [link] [comments] |
[Arkansas] Auto Glass Coverage Posted: 30 May 2018 07:32 AM PDT Last night as I was driving home, something hit my windshield and it left a small crack, about the size of a couple grains of rice and another large crack about the size of a nickel with a few other cracks extending from it. I am wondering if I am covered for this damage and if I claim it will it cause my rates to rise? I have full coverage through Allstate. I have been searching my insurance policy and the only blurb I can find regarding class coverage is the following: Auto Comprehensive Insurance–Coverage HH we will pay for direct and accidental loss to your insured auto or a non-owned auto not caused by collision. Loss caused by missiles, falling objects, fire, theft or larceny, explosion, earthquake, windstorm, hail, water, flood, malicious mischief or vandalism, and riot or civil commotion is covered. Glass breakage, whether or not caused by collision, and collision with a bird or animal is covered. The deductible amount will not be subtracted from the loss payment when the loss is caused by a peril listed under Coverage HE. Since coverage HE is mentioned in the previous passage, I am including it: Auto Fire, Lightning And Transportation Insurance– Coverage HE We will pay for direct and accidental loss to your insured auto or a non-owned auto due to:

Insurance for Motorhome Rental Posted: 30 May 2018 07:21 AM PDT Hey r/Insurance - I'm renting a motorhome in Texas next week, and just found out that my Geico auto policy will not extend to the rental for comp/collision. The rental agency offers NO coverage other than for 2 vehicle accidents. There are horror stories online about how they have 'found scratches' and people have ended up with $10k repair bills. We knew the risk going in but decided it was our only option to rent an RV. I have called every insurance company I can think of and about 12 local agents - and they're all telling me that their policies won't extend to a rented motorhome. I'm turning to you for help - any ideas? [link] [comments] |
Car Insurance Adjuster Didn't Respond, Check Expiring Posted: 30 May 2018 07:17 AM PDT My car was damaged by a storm two years ago. My insurer, Geico, sent an adjuster out who quoted the damage at about $1000. My next door neighbor's car was hit by the same storm and his repairs cost $4000. I called the adjuster multiple times about the discrepancy and left messages and never received a call back. I called Geico directly and they guaranteed me the adjuster would call back. In late December of this year, they sent me a check for the amount the adjuster claimed. I again tried to reach him but he never responded. The 1-800 rep tried to reach him and his supervisor but didn't hear back. In the meantime she suggested I get quotes and send them in. I got two quotes and uploaded them to my claim account, both came in at roughly what my neighbor paid for his repairs. I never heard back so I called them again and he still hasn't returned my call. The check expires on Friday, and in my most recent call they told me if it expires it goes to the state and I have to work with them to get it back, so I have to cash the check they gave me. But if I cash it, how will I get them to pay for the difference? This is $3000 they're trying to run out the clock on. [link] [comments] |
Bodily injury claim 6mos later? Posted: 30 May 2018 06:43 AM PDT Hey guys...this is my first time posting here. Excuse any formatting issues as I am on mobile. Thanks for any information! Back in June 2017 I was stopped about 5m behind the car in front of me at a light. I glanced down to light a cigarette and could see the car beside me start to move through my peripherals. Stupidly, I lightly hit the gas BEFORE looking up. I collided with the man in front of me. Like I mentioned - it was from a dead stop and he was about 5m kn front of me. I couldn't have been going more than 10km/hr - and even that seems excessive. (I drove a pretty terrible car at the time with slow acceleration). We got out, exchanged info out of courtesy but there was 0 damage to either vehicle and we both stayed we were totally fine at the scene. At the end of NOVEMBER 2017 (about 6mos later) I receive a call from my insurance that this man is claiming he is injured. Now I understand that injuries can take time to flare up and whatnot - but I'm having a hard time believing that this man is being 100%legit - (this may be irrelavent) ESPECIALLY because he gave me his business card and the company he worked for publicly went under around September. Just seems incredibly fishy and like hes trying to scam me. This claim is still under investigation. All the insurance company will tell me is that they're following up with treatment providers. My main question is - how long is this going to take? With a secondary question of - will I really have a bodily injury claim on my record for the most minor accident I've ever seen or been a part of? Edit - I live in Calgary, AB if that matters [link] [comments] |
Questions about first Cobra payments Posted: 30 May 2018 06:26 AM PDT I posted this in another sub but only received general info about cobra. There are specific answers I'm looking for, TLDR at the bottom. Lost my job 4/30 and cobra was offered. Marketplace insurance was going to be higher than cobra, my self employment income is too high to qualify for any help so cobra will be the best option. The cobra form said the last date to elect coverage was 5/31, so I sent in the form electing coverage on 5/18. I haven't made a payment yet. I don't actually need insurance right now, unless there's an emergency, and would like to save on the premiums if that's an option. I thought I had read that you could wait to see if you need it, and retroactively pay for previous months if/when you need it. Is that true? If that's the case, then I would let it ride until just before the 3 month mark to avoid the tax penalty. If my coverage ended 4/30, that would mean I could begin coverage 7/31 and not have to pay the penalty, since coverage for even one day of a month counts as coverage for the whole month in terms of the tax penalty. Is that correct? The wording on the form is confusing but it sounds like I need to make the initial premium payment 30 days after 5/18, and it needs to cover all months since loss of coverage. But the form also says it must cover each month of retroactive coverage "you desire," which sounds like I can choose to start coverage later and not pay for the months in between. If anyone can help me understand my options now that I've already sent the form in, that would be great. TLDR I sent in the form electing coverage on 5/18. What is the latest I can make the first payment, and the minimum amount that payment can be, without becoming ineligible for cobra coverage? [link] [comments] |
