My roommate borrowed my motorcycle and possibly caused an accident (CA) Posted: 04 May 2018 04:26 PM PDT I let my roommate borrow my motorcycle the other day, got home five hours later and it wasn't in the garage. Called him, his brother picked up, said he was in the hospital with broken ribs, he's sorry, blah blah blah. I am insured through Dairyland. Called the next day and filed a claim, told them what I knew (the above) and gave them all the contact information they needed. Visited him, got the story: He was preparing to lane-split at a stoplight, another driver abruptly changed lanes in front of him, he slowed down and prepared to go around them but they apparently panicked and slammed on their brakes. He was going slow, but was accelerating (expecting them to finish their lane change) and when they slammed on their brakes he hit them from the side at the corner of the vehicle. Got tossed under a truck, ambulance came and carried him away before he had any time to exchange information. He has not talked to my agent yet. I've got a rental (motorcycle was only transportation), I had an appraiser come by today, I'm working with the total loss agent on id-ing all the modifications. The police report won't be processed for 10 days, so neither I or the agent has a line on the other driver. Other than that, is there anything else I can do to prepare for the shitshow that this is likely to be? With me being the insured allowing him to ride my bike, am I liable for anything if he is found to be at fault? Based on his description of events, who would you guess is at fault? Misc Details:

Overcharged by Dr office, What can I do Posted: 04 May 2018 06:02 PM PDT Hello I recently got into the world of health insurance and came across some discrepancies on my bills by accident. I'm not sure how to format this or what info you need but I'll try my best. I live in AZ and have insurance with Cigna through my work and set up some Dr appointments. I was looked through my EOB(explanation of benefits) and my first few visits added up with 'Amount billed' 'Discount' (through Cigna) then what ' I owe'. However on 2 appointments both with the same physician the 'what I owe' section from Cigna and what I paid the provider have some discrepancies. My first appointment I was told it's $250 for new patients so that's what I paid, However on my EOB form it say's I only owed $183.05 a $66.95 difference. from there I was told each subsequent visit would be $160 until I meet my deductible (I haven't). So i went back a month later paid the $160 at the office but my EOB states I should only owe $110.44 a $49.64 difference. I contacted Cigna and they told me that for no reason should I ever have to pay more than what my EOB says I owe but it's something I need to dispute with the Dr's office. is that true? If so how would i go about that, just confront the front desk person and ask for a reimbursement? Or is there some reason they would be allowed to charge more than what my EOB say's that I owe? because currently it looks like I've been overcharged $116.51 to date and will continue getting charged more than my EOB say's I should. Quick side question, I haven't received a bill in the mail from a lab that did some blood work over 2 months ago that my EOB say's I should have paid for. Does it ever go to collections or report as late to the credit bureau? Because I don't even know where to go to pay it and I'd rather not get a bill down the road with late fees and extra charges. Thanks, TLDR: Paid more at Dr office than what insurance say's I needed to how do I resolve this? [link] [comments] |
Insurance adjuster altered documents Posted: 04 May 2018 03:58 PM PDT I just called my insurance company to follow up on an accident from several years ago. They denied my claim after I got in an argument with the adjuster. The adjuster sent a letter 2 days later that was a thinly veiled admission of the retaliation. The letter they now have in their files has been altered and is worded in a very clinical fashion as opposed to the original letter I'd received. How should I proceed? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 May 2018 08:14 AM PDT Hi, just a few questions, i understand each person here may have different experiences based on their jurisdiction, but any help or insight is helpful.
Q: The term compensation is quite vague, so I assume it refers to commission? If, the person does not receive compensation, and lets say is a salaried based employee at head office, it doesn't meet the definition of an insurance agent anymore, since it's not doing it for compensation, because it is salaried and gets paid either way for putting someone into an insurance contract or not with the insurer.
Q From reading the legislation in my region, professional advisor means an auditor, actuary, a lawyer, accountant, appraiser, architect or engineer, or a person of membership in a profession that would be credible, and person who is a member or works in a professional capacity of a body corporate, or other association in which the person is a professional advisor. Is an underwriter considered a professional advisor? Q In your jurisdiction and/or common practice, can a person enter into a contract of insurance with an insurer through a salaried employee and/or officer at the head office? Can it go the other way around? without the intermediary of an insurance agent? What medium of communication would be involved here? [link] [comments] |
Should I file an auto insurance claim? Posted: 04 May 2018 04:25 PM PDT Long story short I was in bumper to bumper traffic and I hit the car in front of me leaving light scratches on their vehicle. The victim asked if I would like to just pay out of pocket to fix his vehicle since damages were very minimal and I agreed. No police report was filed. I understand the risk and also how generous this person was and I will make sure their vehicle gets taken care of. My car however didn't fare as well. Front bumper cracked, along with a headlight and the grill and repair is going to cost me just under $2000. The collision company thinks I should call my insurance and see if my rates would go up if I were to file a claim instead of paying out of pocket. Do I have to tell the insurance company that I hit another vehicle in order to file a claim? If I have a clean drive record and file a claim is the insurance company overtime going to increase my rates above and beyond the amount ($2000) that I could pay out of pocket to fix on my own instead? If I call my insurance company and don't even file a claim will they somehow still flag me and increase my rates? I'm not rich but I can afford the $2,000 costs I would just rather use the insurance I pay for if it's not going to hurt me in the long run. [link] [comments] |
Disability revoked - how best to appeal Posted: 04 May 2018 07:27 PM PDT I'm looking for advice on how to appeal a disability claim that was recently terminated. I have a disability stemming from a prior illness that makes me extremely tired and causes significant joint and muscle pain, especially in my hands and forearms. My insurance company has decided that even though my doctors have noted that my symptoms are brought on and made worse by use of a keyboard, I should be able to return to work. It is probably important to mention that my job prior to going on disability was almost exclusively writing. I was required me to write 500 page very technical reports about medical/scientific topics on strict deadlines. This doesn't even factor in research, note taking and editing throughout the whole process. Their solution? Voice to text recognition software. Prior to this my insurance company was paying me long term disability and honestly nothing has changed medically since they terminated it. How can I argue that voice recognition software isn't a viable method for writing technical reports in an open office environment? Apologies if this is the wrong sub for this post. Thanks for any help! (PS: Before anyone points out this is contradictory to be writing this; the post was written by my lovely SO) [link] [comments] |
Neighbour's roof tiles scratched my car Posted: 04 May 2018 06:01 PM PDT So thanks to today's high winds in Toronto, my neighbour had a ton of roof tiles come free and some hit my car, scratching the roof. What can I do in this circumstance? I have photos of the tiles and damage. Do I approach my neighbour, report it to insurance, what comes first? [link] [comments] |
Dentist did a procedure thinking it would be covered, it wasn't. Posted: 04 May 2018 03:44 PM PDT My dentist knows what my plan will and will not cover, he's made comments about it before. I had a chip along the backside of my front tooth. We didn't do anything about it because it wasn't bothering me, but he said eventually we should probably fill it in because germs and food can get in it and it would be harder to brush out. So a few weeks ago we ended up filling it in. He said it would be covered. Something about it was not (build up? I believe that's what the statement said) and the portion not covered is nearly $300. I never would have agreed to it had I known. Has anyone ever gotten their insurance to budge on anything like this? Should I contact my dentist's office and see if they know anything about it (their office is closed Fridays, otherwise they'd be my first call. Insurance office is also closed)? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 May 2018 02:58 PM PDT I'm 16 and in my state (WA) you have to have had your license for 6 months before you can drive people who aren't family. Will insurance pay out if I get in a crash while my friend is in the car? [link] [comments] |
[NH] Health Insurance Claim Denied Posted: 04 May 2018 02:54 PM PDT I will try to keep this post succinct while still providing sufficient detail. If anything that I write is unclear, please let me know, and I will do my best to edit this post. I am a graduate teaching assistant and am finishing my first year in the program. As a graduate TA, I was given health insurance at the start of the academic year. The process just involved an email from the school telling me to enter my personal information into the system, which I did. I then immediately received an electronic copy of my health insurance ID card. After a few weeks into the semester, I was considering getting a physical. The insurer was a different company from my previous health insurance, and I worried that my primary care provider would not be in their network. So I called the company and said something along the lines of, "I have insurance with you guys and was wondering if Dr. Smith and ABC Hospital are in your network." I was told that they were, which was great! I did not end up booking the physical right away, since I'm terrible with those things. I ended up having the appointment this past January. It had been a couple of years since my last physical, so my PCP ordered some labs in addition to the physical exam. Well, I received a call today from the hospital saying that I had an unpaid bill from that visit...for over $700. I started to freak out a little, since I do not have that kind of money as a graduate student. I called the insurance company to see why they hadn't paid the bill. The customer service rep directed me to a website that had a PDF document of the full terms of coverage. She directed me to a line that said that preventive services are only covered at the university health clinic. I couldn't deny that it was there. I feel like an idiot for not requesting a copy of these terms when I first got the insurance. I had never heard of insurance only being covered at a single, specific site. So I thought I had covered my bases by calling to find out if my hospital was in-network. The rep told me that I could fill out an appeal to see if they would cover it. So, my questions are:

Phone Insurance Claim Question Posted: 04 May 2018 02:40 PM PDT Hi - I'm doing a bit of research, and wanted to ask folks who have experience in the phone insurance market and/or has worked for a mobile phone insurer. How are claims types usually distributed? For example - 1) what % of claims is for lost/stolen phone, broken screen, damaged battery, water damage, etc. 2) if the claim types are not captured this way, how are they done and what's their allocated %? Thanks BFH [link] [comments] |
Have Progressive Insurance, but no Motorcycle License - Insured? Posted: 04 May 2018 01:31 PM PDT I have full coverage on my motorcycle through Progressive. Recently the front brakes on my Harley malfunctioned, locked up, and threw me off the bike. The bike is significantly damaged. I have a driver's license, but don't have the Kansas Motorcycle endorsement on my license to operate a motorcycle. Will Progressive still pay the claim? No serious medical injuries, just the bike damage. [link] [comments] |
Husband may need surgery. No short term disability insurance. Posted: 04 May 2018 07:27 AM PDT My husband was off work for about a month due to a knee injury. He is now back at work with restrictions, because his initial surgeon thought cortisone shots would work. They aren't, and he's going next week to get a second opinion. His company does not offer any sort of disability insurance, we have to purchase our own policy such as Aflac. (That's the only company I know of, I'm not sure if there are others) He used up all of his vacation time and sick leave for the month of April when he was off. If we get disability coverage for him now, would we potentially be able to file a claim as soon as a few weeks from now, even though it's a pre-existing injury? What questions should I ask to make sure I get the right policy, and are there any specific companies I should look into? Located in Ohio. This is my first time dealing with this type of thing, and am not sure where to start. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 May 2018 07:53 AM PDT I have a house that I'd like to throw regular events/parties at. It is zoned for residence but has a fairly large atrium (at least a few thousand square feet) that is large enough to host shows/performances, is tall enough for aerial workshops/performances, fitness workshops, movie nights that are open to the community, parties, and other stuff one could do with a lot of space. I've found Special Event Insurance, but that is based on a single event for a set number of days with a set number of people. I also found Venue Insurance but that sounds like I'd need to zone for commercial activity and register a business. Is there another type of insurance I should look into in order to make sure my home is covered when doing these public events? Most of the events will be free and done for fun with friends. I think if I start charging for entry for some of these events, that probably puts me in a "commercial" bracket which might require either rezoning the atrium for commercial activity. Some questions I'm trying to figure out:

rental car after being rear ended Posted: 04 May 2018 07:47 AM PDT I was rear ended at a stop sign on April 20th other person's insurance accepted fault and got me a rental. They claimed my truck a total loss, made me a offer that I refused. Now they are taking a long time to make the second valuation report, but telling me I need to return the rental car as they have already extended it twice. My question is can they make me return the rental before we settle the claim? Sorry I know I missed a lot of details probably, if you need more info please ask. [link] [comments] |
