    [California] Difficulty Contacting Uninsured Motorist

    Posted: 05 May 2018 08:46 PM PDT

I was involved in a not-at-fault accident with an unlicensed, uninsured motorcyclist. I have his information given to me by a police officer who handled the collision and exchange of information, and from an incident report.

However, the insurance claim side has been very slow due to the bottleneck of not being able to confirm that the motorcyclist was in fact uninsured. Is there anything I can do on my end to speed things up?

First Time Homeowner Insurance Question (new roof claim)

    Posted: 05 May 2018 01:32 PM PDT

Need advice, first time homeowner here so I want to make sure I am doing the right thing in regards to home insurance claim.

We live in Orlando FL and recently had a hail storm in our area. Everyone in my neighborhood has signs from different roofers, etc and everyone I talk to is saying that now is a good time to get a new roof since the hail storm. It's cheaper than the 2% hurricane deductible.

So I contacted my insurance directly and opened a claim, and they had a roof inspector person come check the roof when I wasn't home. I know I had a good amount of hail damage because they marked up all the hail damaged spots w/ chalk. Fast forward 2 weeks, insurance company called and said I qualify for a new roof after I pay the $2500 deductible... here's the kicker, they said they would cut me a check for $11500 and I can get the roof fixed myself (by finding a roofing company myself) or I could let the insurance company use their own in-network roofer, and if I go with them they will give me 10% off my 2500$ deductible. What would be my best bet here? Should I let them fix the roof or ask for the check? Also what other questions should I ask the insurance company? Thanks all!

[CA] First time filing a claim, have some questions.

    Posted: 05 May 2018 11:08 PM PDT

    Hello,

About a week ago, I was driving on the freeway to go visit my parents. This was night time. I was behind a truck that was carrying some wood on it. The small pieces of wood fell off the truck and dented my roof and damage a little bit of my bumper. I pulled over and I did not get the license plate number of the truck. I don't think the driver knew anything fell off his truck.

I spoke with my agent and she said it should be comprehensive, so I filed a claim due to it not being collision and my premium should not increase. The adjuster for the company will contact me on Monday as I had filed the claim on Friday. I had never been in an accident or file a claim before. There were no witnesses since it was night time and no one was around. Is there anything I need to know when I speak to the adjuster?

If there are also other tips and things I need to know, then please let me know. Thank you.

    Four Cars car accident.

    Posted: 05 May 2018 10:38 PM PDT

Hello Reddit, (I hope this is the right place to post this)

Today I was involved in a four car car accident and I've got so many questions and I'm really unsure how this will all work out. This was in the state of New Mexico

I've got really crappy insurance (according to the internet and reviewers) Dairyland is my insurance company and the reason I went with them is I was in a accident three years ago and the accident was my fault (side swipe) and really can't afford to pay 100+ a month on liability through progressive and geico (I had Geico when I side swiped someone)

I was at a stop sign that lead to the highway and a Nissan truck pulling a trailer was pulling into the road that I was on and a Ford focus had stopped and given it distance so that it could get in. I was originally going to pull forward and go onto the highway but I wasn't sure if the ford was going to go into the second lane and merge back into the lane I was going to turn into. A chevy silverado wasn't paying attention and braked to late and slide into the ford which pushed it into the trailer which caused the trailer to push the nissan into my Toyota Rav 4.

The ford was totaled, the silverado is totaled, the nissan was able to be drive away from the scene and they towed my car to a local tow yard till everything is figured out? (They said I can check it out monday and get it or see all the damage) The front bumper is broken in half and things are leaning against my driver side tire (I dont know the exact damage of my car besides the front end being hit, my overflow for my radiator being knocked off. They'll they need examine everything by taking the tire off and checking all that stuff) I happen to be at the wrong place at the wrong time really.

7 People where taken to the hospital, 4 by ambulance and 3 by family members. The ages ranges for all 7 people, the youngest was a 12 year old girl. I didn't go to the emergency room due to just being shaking up and having adrenal rush. I did go to work without much of a issue, just tired and maybe sore tomorrow.

Since this is effecting 4 different cars including the person who caused the accident, I honestly don't know where to start. The lady who caused the accident admitted she doesn't know what happened, she didn't see the car stopped. I talked to her a bit, she seemed sorta aware. I just talked to her to make sure she was okay. She later did end up going to the ER. I had to explain to her the accident twice because she couldn't believe that it happened.

I wasn't able to get any insurance information, plate numbers or names. The officers on scene made sure we were out of the way of those who were injured and away from each-other so that they could get our story instead of someone just agreeing and putting the blame on her. They did say the lady in the silverado is at fault.

Once everything was done, I went home and called my insurance company like the cop advised I do. They gave me a card with the officer who got our stories. It had a report number and crash report that I gave to my insurance company so that they can get the story. The officer told me that it might take till monday or tuesday for the whole story to be typed up and be submitted.

My questions are: What are really my options here? I have liability on my car, I don't know what kind of insurance the lady who hit us had, she did have insurance though. But I'm worried that something might have to come out pocket, I've got a really unknownish car insurance and I don't know how to handle if they make me pay for anything. I do own my Rav 4.

If this could take months, how do I go about getting a rental car? Does it go through the silverados insurance or my insurance? Does insurance reimburse another insurance for a car rental if it comes down to that?

if my car ends up with a salvage title due to the accident, is my car pretty much worthless *I bought it for 10k, 3 owners, 112k miles, all mechanical paperwork and updates on recalls*

Theres a lot of stuff I feel like I'm missing on asking because I've never done this before. If anyone knows the questions I should be asking my insurance and the other person insurance please let me know cause I'm still so stressed out about this all that I know I'm missing out on questions that are important and need to be asked or steps to be taking to getting everything resolved.

    Thank you so much~

    [Utah] Cant drop health insurance

    Posted: 05 May 2018 10:37 AM PDT

I work in Salt Lake City at 2 different places. I have worked at a hotel for the past 3 years, but due to me getting a much better job (starting Feb 20th), I work part time (5 or 6 days a month, if that) at the hotel now. The new job I got has much better insurance so of course I opted in for it and figured that because I'm working part time at the hotel, it would fall off. I thought this because it states all over the place when getting it that you must work so many hours per week (which I do not) in order to maintain it.

Well it turns out they never did drop it, and when I had to go to the doctor I was met with a surprise that I still had it and am being forced to use it if I want to use insurance. They tried to use my new insurance, but they were told that because they are my "secondary" insurance that they refuse to be charged for it. This makes very little sense to me.

I contacted my manager at the hotel and asked him to get in contact with the person in charge and cancel it, and her response is that she can take off medical, but dental cannot be removed because I'm still eligible due to being part time.

Am I missing something? I am not allowed to remove parts of the insurance I have because I still work there? I don't want it anymore, shouldn't I be allowed to remove it? I wondering if my only option is to just quit there and call it good.

How does claiming an accident work?

    Posted: 05 May 2018 07:08 PM PDT

Long story short on a situation that happened a month ago:

Car was parked by the parking lot. Other guy came out of parking spot and backed into rear passenger door. He admitted fault (said he couldn't see the car in his "blind spot" even though the car was 100% directly behind him) Left a notable dent (nothing major but visible) and scuffs. He apologizes multiple times and showed me his registration / insurance (we both have GEICO).

Never been in a situation like this so I call my father (I use his insurance but drive multiple vehicles). He tells me to settle it out of pocket but the other driver says he has no cash and he'd rather have the police come and go through insurance. My father tells me I would have to pay a deductible of $500-1k and rates will go up. Pretty positive we have the most basic of insurance coverage also. Is this actually the case if the other driver admits 100% fault? I have to come out of pocket for an accident that he caused and admits to? Especially if we both have the same insurance company? I'm curious as to how this should have / could have been handled.

Was hit this morning and was not at fault. what are my next steps?

    Posted: 05 May 2018 05:04 PM PDT

This morning, as I was driving a car pulled out in front of me . I honked and swerved to avoid a collision but the other driver still hit me. they were at fault so I got their insurance information and filed a claim with their agent. This is the first time that I have ever been in an accedent so I wasn't sure what the procedure was for accedent claims. I have pictures of the small intersection where the accedent took place along with photos of the damage of both vehicles. my insurance office is closed on the weekends so I'll have to wait until Monday to speak to my agent. I don't want to file a claim with my insurance because i dont want my premiums to go up and I'm not at fault for the accedent.

I've filed a claim with their insurance, what do I need to do to prepare for the insurance adjuster? will their insurance pay for me to get a rental while my car is being repaired? Do i need to file a claim with my insurance? should I have called the police? is it too late to file a police report? What are my next steps? what more should I do to make it as easy as possible. the other drivers car is a 2003 BMW and they have geico. I have a 2017 Hyundai elantra sport and I'm insured with Allstate.

[North Dakota] insurance company falsely reported an accident as at fault on my CLUE report

    Posted: 05 May 2018 03:21 PM PDT

I had an accident in 2016 where I was rear ended at a stop light and found to be not at fault. Never paid a copay and went about my life. I've had two other accidents/claims both not at fault. Now I've realized my 6mo premium is almost double to that of my peers (27F) and when shopping for insurance I was given my CLUE and realized what was making it so high.

What are my options? How can I fix this? Am I entitled to reimbursement for whatever extra I've been paying in premiums? I tried contacting my insurance company and they gave me the runaround about contacting LexisNexis but eventually the representative told me, "I agree with you on this. I think you should talk to your adjustor directly" and gave me his information.

I want to have my ducks in a row before I tackle this on Monday and any advice is greatly appreciated.

Looking for new car insurance that offers GAP Insurance.

    Posted: 05 May 2018 01:30 AM PDT

Recently our car was totaled, and we're going out car shopping tomorrow. GAP Insurance saved our butts on the last one so we definitely want to get that again. We previously got it through the dealership, and I've heard it's cheaper to get it through your car insurance company. My car insurance company(geico) does not offer gap insurance, but I was looking to switch as soon as we got a new car anyway.

Can anyone suggest some reasonably priced car insurance companies that would offer this option on a used car?

Geico is refusing to tow my vehicle.

    Posted: 05 May 2018 10:39 AM PDT

I bought towing insurance the morning of my car accident, and they are refusing to even tow it until they "review whether or not I was insured at the time of the incident.

I got insurance on the Jeep a week before the crash. I got motorist insurance the morning of the accident because it's a requirement to license my vehicle, and noticed towing insurance was really cheap and got that too. I got my vehicle licensed in the morning, so I have no clue why they cannot just call the state and ask them, especially someone at the sheriffs office who checked my VIN. It's been almost a week since the accident and the jeep is still sitting at a shady place in town the entire time.

What use is insurance if you can't fucking use it?? If someone steals shit off of it can I hold Geico responsible? Is there anything I can do for them causing me extra worry?
