Posted: 01 May 2018 02:30 PM PDT Busy season is over! I don't care what deadline is coming up, My firm-wide hour requirement went back down to 7.5/day last week. Unless I'm told explicitly that what I'm working on is urgent and that I need to put in extra hours, 7.5 is what I will work. On a new review this week, first year job. It's just me (experienced associate) and a senior out here And she's working til 10-11pm every night. I know because there are review notes. At 6 when I say I'm heading out, she says "OK" without breaking eye contact with her screen. Some people... What are your crazy co-worker stories? [link] [comments]
AMA Request: Kid in my FAR1 class who just turned in his final after 25 minutes Posted: 01 May 2018 03:51 PM PDT Did you have a copy of last year's test? Did you only need a 30% to pass with a C? Did you decide not to pursue a career in accounting after getting 10 questions in? I need answers [link] [comments]
Anyone work for a real estate company as an accountant? Posted: 01 May 2018 03:03 PM PDT Just landed a senior accountant role at a publicly traded real estate management company. I am not dealing with property accounting I was told but the GL side of it. I was also told it's very fast paced. What is fast paced for real estate? I had plenty of time for Reddit during my last job and would like to keep it that way. [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 May 2018 04:36 PM PDT This is a dream company for me, perfect in every way. I applied to the Senior position to kinda "shoot for the stars." I'd be happy with the Associate position. I don't want to apply (again) for the Associate position, because I think that looks bad (or does it?). Will they consider me for the Associate position or will they write it off/all or nothing kind of thing? This is a midsize public accounting firm in an office of over 200 alone. Posted: 01 May 2018 09:47 PM PDT I made a 65 on my final exam in intermediate accounting 2. I'll pass with a 70.77. I feel awful. When are you supposed to know when to switch majors? I think I'll make an A in Cost Accounting.....but I don't know man. I just feel shitty, and if its something that pertains to my major I should be making A's. There's a lot of pressure because I'm using subsidized student loans to pay for school and working part time as a staff accountant. I quit a full time decent paying job to go to school full time and finish early.(Edit: By early I mean earlier. I've been going part time for years now.) I just feel like I'm letting everyone, including myself down. I'm going to rack up debt, and then flunk out of school anyway. Anyway, advice would be appreciated but also just needed to rant. Career advice for 27 yr old. [CAN] Posted: 01 May 2018 04:51 PM PDT Hi /r/accounting, Just here to get some thoughts on my career. During undergrad, I majored in accounting but screwed around quite a bit and took a little longer to graduate. GPA was sub 3. And obviously, it was very hard to get a decent position in accounting. Networked within B4 and smaller firms but didn't hear back. So I decided to do my MBA that accepts undergrads with no work experience. I am now one year away from graduating and doing okay so far (3.5+ GPA) So here's where I am torn. I want to work in M&A or venture capital and hopefully, work my way up to private equity. All the transactions services line seem to require CPA. Do you think CPA is worth it? How hard or slow do you think the career progression will be without it? Thanks for your help Edit: I've also seen some new grad CPA Stream job postings for 2019 from Deloitte so far. Does anybody know if they will consider hiring post MBA for senior associates? 2.5 Weeks until I Sit for FAR...Best Way to Allocate my Time? Posted: 01 May 2018 07:44 PM PDT I just wrapped up F10 today and have the next ~16 days to review and take practice tests before my test date. Is there anything you'd recommend I do in particular in terms of how to go about completing a review? Obviously I will focus on my weak areas, but is there anything else I should consider? I've seen countless posts saying not to spend too much time on practicing the Becker sims because they're nothing like the real thing. Would most people here agree? [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 May 2018 01:35 PM PDT First time on this sub. I'm a senior in high school and will be going off to college next year with my major being accounting. I'm here because I was wondering what sort of mathematical concepts, and skills are useful/needed to be a good accountant. I know there are different types of accountants. I don't know a whole lot but right now I think I would want to be one that works for a company like Kevin in "The Office" rather than one that deals with taxes. Any response would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 May 2018 04:29 PM PDT Does anyone know where I could get online pdfs for the IFRS? Everywhere I have looked requires a subscription of some sort. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
