The stock market is at an all time high. Should I wait until the next correction to invest?

    Posted: 10 Mar 2018 12:52 PM PST

I'm a 28 year old with a reasonable amount of liquid cash. I'm ready to invest however I am hesitant to dump money into stocks knowing that the market is at an all time high. Should I wait for the next correction or start now? I have my 401k maxed out FYI.

    Please argue

    Posted: 10 Mar 2018 02:21 AM PST

I'd like to see an argument for and against investing right now. I catch myself going back and forth saying "oh we hit a top" and "don't time the market". Can anyone expand on some arguments for or against investing as of today?

What do you guys think of DFS(Discover Financial Services)?

Seems like an undervalued company in the credit card space that also does banking and loans. Opinions?

What confirms your thoughts about a stock before entry?

    Posted: 10 Mar 2018 07:17 AM PST

When you find a stock you think looks good, is there any specific signs you look for to confirm you want to invest in that stock?

I've found a stock I'm interested in, employees reviews are high, good signs of growth, good earnings, good entry price, I've only found positive news, analysts all have buy ratings and pt 1.5-2x current price.

Just want to know hat signs you guys need to have "checked off" before you invest.

Thoughts on MRAM the company and the technology

    Posted: 10 Mar 2018 06:03 AM PST

I'm an investor not a tech head so I would like some opinions on some people smarter than me on the subject. What are some thoughts on MRAM? I don't believe the claims of replacing DRAM, but it seems like it should have a place in the market going forward from what I can tell doing my DD I'm going to open a small position Monday regardless but would appreciate any feedback.

How to approach purchasing a stock nearing the earning report date

    Posted: 10 Mar 2018 11:15 AM PST

    Good afternoon,

As somebody who wants to hold long, what is the best play on purchasing with the upcoming earnings (Specifically NTLA in this case) - Wait to see if the market gets spooked by potential -EPS ? Im leaning towards waiting until the report comes then trading after/pre hours on the 13/14th respectively

    Thank you

    PDT question

    Posted: 10 Mar 2018 07:00 AM PST

Interesting dilemma: I was well positioned for Friday's job numbers, and was able to hammer high delta SPX calls and so doubled my hobby trading account from 12k to 25k.

I am a part time options trader who has enjoyed the management and discipline of small accounts. I have never been flagged as a day trader, and carefully manage the weekly round trips. On Friday I had 2 round trips available, but three open positions, and I really wanted to close everything and lock profits before the weekend. But I knew I'd be flagged as a PTD once I did. So I sweated it out and closed everything once I was over 25k, just before the close. And am now via Ameritrade considered a PTD.

So this is an interesting problem to have. I only trade options, and don't plan on making round trips until I've built up the account cash margin. A few questions:

    • Does the FINRA flag apply to me or the account? Meaning, does the flag follow me to other accounts I open up in the future, or just this account?

    • If I dip below 25k I can still trade, but can't make round trip day trades, correct?

    • I can clearly see how PTD status could lead to emotional over trading. No bueno. Any of you have specific PTD strategies that serve you well?

Is Autodesk (ADSK) a good candidate for a short-term trading short?

    Posted: 10 Mar 2018 01:04 PM PST

Autodesk (ADSK) shares popped this week.

Given what I heard from the conference call, I didn't expect ADSK to do much. To me the headline was nearly identical to the headline last quarter... a beat on top and bottom lines... and subs were lower... essentially the same headline that cratered the stock about 15%.

While they did announced a layoff last quarter, there was no such layoff this quarter... so that's a positive... but, maybe balancing that was the guided lower this quarter vs. higher last quarter... which is usually a big negative.

Clearly the stock was on fire in the after market after this quarter's report came out... and that carried through to the next day trading as well... up almost 15%.

So I think it's swung too far. I can see the positives in the quarter temporarily taking out the old high (around $131)... but it just hit $140 today... that seem too much... feels like it should be trading at 125-130. (Notably today ADSK seems to be lagging behind the rest of the on-fire market.)

In addition, I wouldn't put it past Trump to roil up the markets again soon... and, there really should be a second leg down from the midi-crash of a few weeks ago... we have come very far very fast.

So, I think ADSK is a good candidate for a short-term trading short.

    Any thoughts?

    Thoughts on $BIG

They beat earnings but had some disappointing guidance Friday, so it dropped 10%. Otherwise the company looks solid. Seems like a good value. Thoughts?

Hello guys. What do you think about the stock Patriot One Technologies. I see this stock increase massively the next few years. Their technology can prevent actions such as school shootings and terrorism. They have also recieved financing from Canaccord which is estimated to be around 25 million $. This is a sign of a bright future in my opnion!

    Steel Stocks

    Posted: 10 Mar 2018 12:27 AM PST

What do you guys think about companies such as United States Steel (X), Steel Dynamics (STLD), and Nucor (NUE). The Trump tarrif talk has created a lot of hype, but I don't see it on this or other stock related subreddits. United States Steel and Steel Dynamic both have a strong buy rating from Zacks and both companies have good financials, with STLD leading the pack. Wouldn't it make sense that US steel stocks will see a significant rise in the near future?

Overview of a stock heavily portfolio, open discussion

    Posted: 10 Mar 2018 08:18 AM PST

Hi guys. I wanted to open up a discussion about tech stocks, and perhaps allow others to discuss about it. The reason why I'm comfortable showing the stocks I invested in is because I've beaten the S&P500 returns significantly the past 6 months and the past year. Obviously some people made much more, but I'm good w/ the returns I got.

    • Netflix: They don't just stream movies and tv shows, they're much more than that. They've revolutionized the game, I have yet to meet an adult [born in the 1990's] that does not watch Netflix's content. Their content is amazing & their vision for the future is optimistic. Only one that can stop Netflix's growth is Netflix. No, Disney will not stop Netflix, regardless of what they do.
    • Facebook: Zuckerberg is a gangster. I think FB is massively undervalued. With the upcoming Virtual Reality tech coming about in the next decade, I think FB will be the front leader of the virtual reality world, connecting people all around the world w/ the said tech. People were wrong about FB's acquisition of Instagram, they're now underestimating the impact FB will have w/ VR.
    • Microsoft: Cloud cloud cloud. As someone who works in a software company, I can tell you that Microsoft has done everything right the past few years. I think w/ IoT devices coming about, Microsoft will be a front leader w/ connecting devices with each other and allowing software companies to take full advantage of that tech.
    • Apple: I think everyone knows how dominant Apple is already. I think they have too much of a dominance for one to miss out on. It's become a religion for Americans, so there is no doubt on my mind that they will keep growing.
    • Google: Artificial Intelligence. They're so far ahead of companies, it's unbelievable. I think they hold the future of in the AI market.
    • Alibaba: E-commerce leader in China. A lot of people are skeptical about Chinese companies, but numbers don't lie. They are dominant in Asia, and I see them expanding heavily in other markets (A.I, e-sports, etc.)
    • Tencent: The FB of China basically, with additional influence over the game industry as well. E-sports is growing rapidly, and they'e investing heavily into it.
    • Visa: Solid company that will always have a place in my portfolio. In a world where we are moving away from physical money to digital money, VISA will not slow down its growth.
    • Paypal: Many small and medium businesses rely on Paypal transactions. I see Paypal venturing in other markets, a possibility for them to allow businesses to open up on opportunities. I don't believe they necessarily need to dominate on Ebay to grow.

There are obviously some other good companies to invest on. What do you guys think? Do you believe some of those companies can grow significantly in the following years? What are your concerns w/ Tech companies?
