Looking back at reddit posts in 2008 Posted: 10 Mar 2018 09:57 PM PST I was a teenager during the housing crisis but it didn't feel like too long ago. I found some salient posts that highlight the sentiment around this time. History will repeat itself one day but the million dollar question is when. I also just watched The Big Short and as a result became an experienced speculator. I hope there is something for both bulls and bears to look forward to by looking back in history! finance.google.com/finance finally stopped working today Posted: 10 Mar 2018 05:57 PM PST A day that shall live in infamy. In all seriousness, will someone please start a company that charges me $10/month for a good Google Finance clone that loads fast? [link] [comments] |
What happens when a company issues new shares? Posted: 10 Mar 2018 10:06 AM PST I see that Tesla is continually issuing new shares, I understand that they get more cash from that but how exactly does this process work? Can they just say ok lets issue 100 000 shares and get some free cash? Does the stock price drop after having issued those shares because of dilution? [link] [comments] |
How much have you been earning per year lending your shares at IB? Posted: 10 Mar 2018 02:36 PM PST For those that have been enrolled to Interactive Brokers's Stock Yield Enhancement Program for some time, how much in percentage have you been making per year? What kind of stocks have been more profitable to lend? [link] [comments] |

Has anybody been looking into Cronos Group (Cron)? Posted: 10 Mar 2018 07:23 AM PST Cron recently hit the NASDAQ. It owns a few medical marijuana companies. Growing and selling. It's the only marijuana company available on the NASDAQ. I think this Industry will take off later. Curious how others feel about it Edit: If you know of any American marijuana companies tht are publicly traded that you like, feel free to talk about them [link] [comments] |
What stops a nation from massively selling put options on its sovereign debt. Posted: 11 Mar 2018 01:05 AM PST It's basically free premium income. It also lowers the risk of your debt making it cheaper for you to borrow and if you default well then the options are worthless anyway costing you nothing. Lets assume for a second that some country is actually doing this. Now my question is, how would this trade unwind. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 10 Mar 2018 04:36 AM PST It seems to have good returns and be really popular, but it's so tech heavy, why not just invest in a tech ETF and not limit yourself to NASDAQ stocks? The top 5 are in a ton of ETFs/MFs anyways. What am I missing? [link] [comments] |
If someone has 100% cash right now, should they wait until the recession to invest? Posted: 10 Mar 2018 06:51 PM PST Hey, So a friend of mine has quite a bit of savings, all cash. They've been sitting on it for years and years. I've been trying to convince him that he needs to do something with it. In the long run, my recommendation is just to have a buy-and-hold profile consisting of a few of the standard ETFs and some bonds. But my guess is that, since we're near the end of the cycle, it would be a bad idea to buy all-in now. My gut is to say something like: once the market drops around 15%, start buying a chunk of the ETFs you want to hold every 2 weeks until you've bought in. The other issue is bonds. Obviously bonds are in a bad spot right now. Am I wrong to say, though, that bonds are not worse than cash or money market, though? Would it be bad advice to advise him to start gradually buying into bonds later in the year, once we're farther along in the rate hike + fed bond selling process? Hopefully these questions aren't too hard to answer. I'm just trying to set him up with a basic set of investments that he can largely ignore until he's ready to get professional advice, and so on, but I feel like it's obviously bad advice to tell him to buy in at the tail end of this cycle. Best way to short the broad market, without getting killed by decay? Posted: 10 Mar 2018 08:11 AM PST Looking to switch all my holdings from a long to a short position, but those inverse S&P ETFs are more for day traders/very short investments. I'm looking for something I can hold for the rest of the year, without losing it all to decay. [link] [comments] |
Is The Boring Company a work-product of Tesla? Posted: 10 Mar 2018 10:20 AM PST It would seem that The Boring Company used resources from Tesla as it started up. Shouldn't it therefore be a work-product of Tesla and at least partially owned by Tesla? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 10 Mar 2018 11:29 AM PST Hey, so I'm just now getting into investing through Robinhood, I don't know if this is my first mistake or a good idea. Anyways, if got a job for at least the next 5 1/2 years where I make way more money than I need, and want to invest $150 a month, where should I start? I'm very new to this, only 19, and of course they never taught real life in school and my Dad hates the market so he doesn't have advice. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 10 Mar 2018 08:12 PM PST Anyone looked at or have any opinion on Accenture? Business is a professional services company, with most of their clients being in the Fortune 500, their competitive advantage is mainly their expertise, and Accenture could also be deemed a franchise. They have a service that is needed, there is no close substitute, and they are unregulated. Economic moat wise they have good intangible asset durability. Extremely high cash return on capital and returns on equity over 20% for over 15 years. Gross profit on total assets is 50%, they are a pretty efficient company. Low capital intensity $4.1 billion in net cash. Great growth prospects across multiple sectors. FCF DCF estimates about $150, current price is a little higher Concerns over the massive amount of competition and low barriers to entry, but Accenture is the most trusted and skilled. Has anyone taken the top 10 holdings of a high expense ratio ETF and just bought them directly? Posted: 10 Mar 2018 08:10 PM PST With tools like Robinhood, etc. doesn't it just make more sense to buy the individual stocks and avoid the ER? Take $TMFC for example... easy to follow and mimic, just rebalance on your own. Thoughts? [link] [comments] |
Can the entry and exit point be properly done using Market Depth ? Posted: 10 Mar 2018 07:30 PM PST Hi guys, I have a doubt whether this is really possible. I found a video in youtube saying that we can choose proper entry and exit price using Market depth. https://youtu.be/3atD0cam1rg According to that video, based on the High Volume Node on the Market depth the Price will obviously come to the HVN before making any big move. Mutual fund capital gains question...GFACX Posted: 10 Mar 2018 06:25 PM PST So I have 17,000 invested in GFACX by American funds also have 6 other mutual funds by them just using this one for example. I see that in December they distribute capital gains/divedends. This one does not have a divyield so guessing only capital gains would apply? If so is there any way to have a idea of what that number may be? Or just whatever the managers sell for a gain? Thanks in advance also if anyone has any of American Funds mutual funds would love to hear your input. [link] [comments] |
