Update 2 - Washington State: Neighbor is currently video recording me and has a camera directly pointed at my bedroom window. What can I do?

    Original post Update 1

It's close to a year now that we've dealt with the worst of my neighbor. Almost a year ago, we achieved the success of having an anti-harassment order granted. That summer, he was arrested for harassing us, and he stopped with the cameras and the noises.

But something was a-brewing behind those closed doors.

Around early November 2017, we had a knock on the door one evening. It was an officer asking if we had heard gunshots in the area. We had not. Soon into our conversation, he mentioned it was our neighbor who called and complained. They were aware of the situation and assured us that despite the situation, they have to respond to all gunshot calls. I was honestly not surprised that after all the quiet, something started up again.

The next day, a police cruiser parked across the street from our home. I was expecting someone to knock again and ask about gunshots. No one came to the door and the officer sat across the street watching my home for over an hour.

The next day, I emailed an officer I had been working with previously regarding the situation. The officer told me that my neighbor had been calling 911 every single day on my address for gunshots. By the time I got an email back it had been a week.

Every. Single. Day. This man was coming home from work, eating dinner, tending to daily life, and calling 911 on us for shooting guns. The officer said he would look into seeing if this counted as harassment through a third party.

The new year came and went, and in early January, I emailed the officer back and his response was simply that the city prosecutor wanted to set up a phone conference to discuss the plan going forward.

The city prosecutor mentioned to me that at that point in time, my neighbor had still been calling 911 every day. Even the morning of the conference call. She said they contacted all of my other neighbors to see if they heard any gunshots, and asked if they would testify that they have not heard anything come from our property. They also plan to charge my neighbor with some counts of harassment and wrongfully utilizing emergency services. Part of his deal with the arrest over the summer involved him able to avoid jail time by having good behavior, and they are looking for their time back essentially. His arraignment date came, and his pre-trial was set. Came and went. It's being continued until next month.

I am worried that he will try to continue this case until the end of time. Our anti-harassment order expires soon and we will have to drag him to court once again to renew it, and spend more money. Things are starting to feel pretty dim again and honestly, the recent continuance knocked the wind out of my sails. All I can do until I am called as a witness/victim, is wait.

Is it possible to legally change a child's age? (New York)

    Posted: 11 Mar 2018 03:53 AM PDT

I know this question sounds crazy but allow me to explain.

My husband and I adopted our son internationally last summer. We were told that he was 5 but suspected that he was much younger. We were told that his small frame was due to malnurishment and his ethnic background but recently had a bone scan done and his bone age is 2 years younger than he chronological age. 3 going on 4 makes much more sense than 5 going on 6 when you consider physical development and developmental milestones. We are considering getting his age legally changed because of things like schooling. We are currently homeschooling but plan to enroll him in public school at some point and having his age match his grade will be better than having to put a 9 year old in 1st grade.

We have no idea what his actual age is because of his abandonment. The age his country gave us was an estimate. Does anyone have any experience with this?

My research paper is being plagiarized by a professor after I graduated from university.

    Posted: 11 Mar 2018 08:56 AM PDT

TLDR: My professor is using an old research paper my friend and I submitted in class and working on getting it published without telling us or including us.

    Hi All,

Created a throwaway to ask for advice regarding this topic as I have friends on reddit and don't want word getting out about this before I know what to do.

I graduated from an American University (think satellite campus)in the UAE in 2016. I graduated with a degree in International Business and Economics and during my final year at the university a professor had students in one of his course's enter the business category of a nationally held research competition. (The research paper was also to be submitted as a final project)

A classmate and I worked 3 months preparing a paper that was shortlisted and eventually was awarded 4th place within the business category. After the competition I didn't really think much of the paper other than my professor saying that he's very proud of us and that if we're interested he'd like to work with us and publish it after he polishes it up a bit. He made it extremely clear that it would be the three of us.

After graduating my friend and I got jobs at different MNC's where we've been extremely busy. In the meantime we do visit the university and catch up with our professors, however nothing regarding the research paper has come up. We still have access to our old emails and drafts as well as the final submitted paper.

Today while on LinkedIn I saw a post from this professor titled "forthcoming publication" with a picture of the first page of a research paper with a title, abstract and introduction extremely similar to our old paper, minus the names of my friend and I.

Some people who have read my paper and seen the linkedin post have told me to allow him to publish it and then follow through with legal action against him and the university. While others have told me to contact him directly and ask about the submission.

What should I do? Do I still have the rights to this paper although I did it while a student in university? I'm overall extremely confused of what action I can take and whether or not I should take any.

Thanks in advance for your help, I appreciate it a lot.

Sister (24) died under suspicious circumstances, we feel like the police have not done enough. What can we, as the family do, to make sure that her death is properly investigated?

    Posted: 11 Mar 2018 10:59 AM PDT

My purpose for this post is to gain a better understanding of what the law in Pennsylvania allows me to know regarding my sister's death and the police's investigation of her death, that has not been provided. There are some things regarding her death that don't seem to add up and I want to be sure that whatever investigation may be occuring is fully aware of all pertinent details.

My sister (aged 24) passed away unexpectedly, early this week. Some background: she has been a drug addict for as long as I can remember. Her drug of choice was opiates, specifically pain medication, but she has been known to dabble in heroin and other dangerous drugs. She had recently been out of rehab; I actually went to dinner with her the night before she passed and she seemed fine. I can always tell when has been using and she was sober when I saw her, which was roughly 12 hours before her death.

One of the things that doesn't add up is the fact that her car went missing right after she died. I was told that her fiancé went to bed early, woke up, and found my sister dead around 6am in the morning (he has to get up early for work). I guess sometime between finding her and when we saw him later that night, he noticed that the car (that was in the driveway, that nobody else had a key or access to) was missing. We have reported the car stolen but the police basically said "she's dead so technically she does not own the car and it is not stolen", but is that really how the law works?

Anyways, the keys were in the apartment, which would mean that somebody would have to enter her apartment to obtain the them since there was only one set of keys.

The next thing that doesn't add up is that her phone is missing. The police have not told us if they have her phone or not so we're not sure that they possess it, but the phone likely holds answers to questions surrounding her death. Do we have any legal rights to ask if they have the phone or not? Do we have any rights to access the phone? Can we insist that the police go through her phone? We suspended the phone service right after we found out she died, so nobody can call or text it.

The final thing that doesn't add up is that the autopsy came back inconclusive. Does anybody know what exactly this means? Does it take time to determine death from an overdose? What information do we have the right to obtain from coroner? Is it possible that they'll have to exhume her body? I just want to understand what rights I have as the adult sister of the deceased. What do I have the legal right to know about in regards to the investigation? Why are they unable to tell us if they have her phone or not? Why have they not told us if drug paraphernalia was found at the scene? What are the legal intricacies behind their behavior? Have the police been following proper procedure? What can we, as the family, do to make sure that my sister's death is being investigated properly? Thank you.

Private Security left 'warning papers' on my parked car's hood. Rained the same day and papers stained/ruined the paint. What are my options? (CA)

    Posted: 11 Mar 2018 08:52 AM PDT

Pretty straightforward just looking for some guidance, yesterday my 21' foot RV was parked on a street with no signs in orange county. I guess this area of the town (aliso viejo) has private security? And they left 2 warning papers that are bright orange on the hood of my car saying it needed to be moved within 24 hours. I did move it, but it had rained for a few hours before i got to the RV and during that time the dye from the papers they left stained the paint on the hood of my RV and won't come out. I've called them but they said they can't do anything over the phone so I'm not sure what my next course of action should be? Any suggestions? Do i file in small claims? not sure what to do. Thanks!

TLDR: Private security left bright orange 'warning' paper on hood of my car, it rained, now have two giant orange spots that wont come off.

Ex-Wife not following parenting plan and refuses to pick up our son

    Posted: 11 Mar 2018 11:27 AM PDT

    Throwaway just in case.

I'm not sure if this is the right place, but I desperately need advice. I have been divorced for a little over three years. When my ex and I initially separated, things were somewhat civil and we were going to work things out amicably. However, she ended up running away and taking my son with her. It took me almost a year with multiple lawyers and private detectives to finally track her down. When I did, we went to court and I was put the ringer to prove that I was fit parent. As you can imagine, her and her family made every accusation you can imagine. Everything was proved false. I spent thousands just to be part of my sons life. I was only able to get weekend and 4 hours a during the weekdays.

This brings us to today. I haven't been able to take him during the 4 hours a week so we worked out that I would pick him up earlier on fridays and drop him off later on sundays to make up the missed time. The reason why is because I need to work a lot of overtime just to make enough to live and pay child support. I've put myself in a lot of debt throughout all this and I'm barely scraping by. Whenever I have a day off I take him and anytime she needs to make a change I do my best to accommodate her request. I have only missed one weekend because I needed to take care of my sick mother in another state, which she has used against me multiple times.

Now here is where the real problem is. She has just been dropping him off on fridays, and REFUSING to take him back. I have missed multiple days of work already since the start of the new year because of this and I'm out of sick days. She just informed me that she wont be back until next week and wont pick him up. She says I need to "learn to be an adult and this will put my parenting to the test". Our decree also stipulates that I can take him for 2 weeks in may, but if I can't take him that I need to give her a notice with enough time. I notified her and she said she'll just drop him off and not pick him up like she's been doing. All my family is in another state, I have no money for a babysitter, I gave up everything just to be here for him. I really just want full custody so I can save the money for child support and really be there for him. What are my options? please help, I live in Nebraska. Thanks in advance.

Magazine is sending me stuff every week that I don't want and will not stop. I am trying to make them. Now they are threatening to sue me. (TX)

    Posted: 10 Mar 2018 05:00 PM PST

I live in a high-income area and there is a publisher who sends magazines every couple weeks that are just random filler articles about my city plus a bunch of ads from local companies. It also includes a $7.95 "price tag" printed next to the magazine's barcode, which is obviously false because it is not sold anywhere.

I do not want these and have asked nicely for them to stop, but they said that I can't stop them. They have letter carriers put them in every mailbox, so there is no way to exclude one particular mailbox.

So I sent this email to several of the advertisers in this magazine.

    Dear [Company Name],

I recently noticed your advertisement after skimming [magazine], which I receive at my home despite not paying for or subscribing to. In fact, I have contacted its publisher to request that it not be sent to me, but they have advised that due to their chosen delivery method, it is not possible for individual recipients to opt out.

I believe strongly in consumer choice and the ability to control the content that comes into my home, as Congress already allows for with legislation surrounding unsolicited emails, telephone calls, and in-person solicitations. I can turn off advertising on TV, the radio, and any other medium, but I apparently cannot prevent it from being inserted into my mail slot.

I am not sure whether you are aware that [magazine]'s circulation includes households such as mine who not only do not receive the publication by choice, but have actively attempted to prevent them to no avail. These do not seem like the ideal circumstances under which to deliver marketing messages. In fact, in my case, I find that it provides for negative brand associations rather than positive ones.

Given my feelings on this topic, I have decided that I will no longer patronize businesses who choose to advertise to me in this fashion, including yours. Companies should find respectful and consumer-friendly ways to distribute their messages, without forcing them it into people's homes against their will. If this has been a mistake and doing so was not your intent, I am happy to discuss my future business further.

    Thank you,

    Me

Anyway, one advertiser responded to me with a CC to the magazine's advertising manager. They said they had been under the impression that the magazine was received by willing subscribers. It also included a note to the magazine that their advertising rates do not justify a circulation that includes unwitting recipients, and that they would like to follow up with another discussion to learn more about the circulation breakdown. About a week later, they wrote me back again and said they had terminated their advertising relationship with the magazine on this basis, and would very much like to have me as a customer in the future.

A few days later, I received an angry C&D from the magazine saying that they are preparing legal action against me, and that any further interference with their business relationships will result in additional claims against me. Apparently, they have lost several advertisers because of me, and are not pleased about it.

From my POV there doesn't seem to be much of a leg for them to stand on. Everything I said in my letter was factually correct, and I think I have every right to let a company know that I'm not going to do business with them and why.

Is this something I should be concerned about?

Can I just give my mom’s stuff to good will? (Wisconsin)

We're being evicted, my name is on the lease, and she ditched everything to go to New York. I don't want to get huge fines for some company moving her stuff, but I also don't want to buy storage for her because she doesn't know how long she will be gone, and because I know for a fact that she will never pay me back. (Her credit score is potato) Can I sell a couch and give the rest to goodwill? (No, I don't care about her anymore)

[OR]Tree Law, Neighbor damaging old growth Doug Fir tree because it smushed their water line

    Posted: 11 Mar 2018 02:07 PM PDT

I live in Portland, OR and I have a 36in diameter douglas fir tree on my property line. I purchased this property about 10 months ago. The lot was split in the 1970's and the backdoor neighbors water line was put in partially under the douglas fir. As you can imagine, the roots grew and damaged their water line. They are currently outside digging around the trunk of the tree. I went out and told them to stop digging once I realized that they were chopping through 12in diameter roots with an axe.

I have contacted the Portland Bureau of Building Code and reported them for not having a permit. I have also called the City of Portland Tree Department and reported the potentially serious damage to the tree. Now it is sunday so I probably won't hear anything back from them until tomorrow.

I have contact with a certified arborist and plan on showing him the pictures of the damage and asking for advice on Monday.

Are there any other steps I should be taking to protect the tree and my property? Should I contact an attorney?

Had intercourse, being told its rape (NE)

    Posted: 10 Mar 2018 03:03 PM PST

To start this out, I am 16 years old, sophomore in high school. My girlfriend is 14, and is a freshman. There is 1 and half years of age difference between us.

The other day, I was helping her practice for track with her high jump at the track, and afterwards, she was telling me that she was turned on, wanted to do stuff, etc. Things led to another, and we had intercourse. Her parents found out, and Im being told by my friends that if the parents take it to court, that I will get charged with statutory rape. I have messages from her telling me that I didnt force her into anything, or pressure her. She told me that her father is coming to my house, and that its not going to be good. I dont know if that will change anything. Am I able to be charged, Or am I freaking out over nothing?

Downstairs neighbor complaining about "loud walking noise", multiple times to leasing office

    Posted: 11 Mar 2018 07:40 AM PDT

    Hi,

I've lived in an apartment in Downtown Atlanta for the last 6 months, with a roommate. The downstairs neighbor filed a noise complaint in February. Saturday, I got a voicemail yesterday that said another complaint was made for "loud walking"....

The first complaint I answered by phone, I mentioned that the noise could be coming from a nearby stairwell, or upstairs neighbor. Basically, that we are in an apartment and noise travels. Our upstairs neighbor has children and dogs, and I hear children running/playing near the stairwell often.

In the recent voicemail(2nd complaint), the leasing office rep says, "You said you weren't making the noise, but the downstairs neighbor is complaining about loud walking again".

What do I do here? I want to stay, and just signed a year-long lease that starts in a few weeks. I hate that I've already signed another lease because I don't like the accusatory tone of the voicemail or agent. I could fix using appliances at night, or washing during the evening, but 'heavy walking'....

My neighbor seems very sensitive to noise, and we can try to 'walk more softly', but I could see this getting anal very quickly.

This downstairs neighbor is also violating the lease by using a barbecue grill right on their balcony.

The smoke has risen up into our apartment before, we went outside to check the burning smell out of worry and I know it's a fire hazard.

Do I mention this now? And how do I respond to repeated complaints about "loud walking". My roommate is a big person, and can try to tread more softly, but is already very anxious.

Any help would be appreciated, ty

This is the message I want to send the Landlord:

    "Dear Landlord,

Thanks for your message. We believe that these complaints are either misdirected or severely oversensitive. Regarding the first complaint about noises, we suspect that the people complaining might have heard sounds from a different apartment or a nearby stairwell.

Regardings the second complaint about "loud walking noise", we have not been unreasonably loud. We make normal use of our apartment. We watch television at a moderate level. We talk at a moderate level. We do not make excessive noise. Correspondingly, we suspect that the complaining neighbors do not understand the nature of apartment living -- even moderate sounds carry. If they need utter quiet, away from the sounds of people walking, they may be better off in a standalone residence.

There is an issue we have had with the downstairs neighbor use of a BBQ grill on their patio. The smell of meat and smoke carry up into our apartment each time they use it, and the closeness to the building is a fire hazard.

We have invested in a decibel meter, that will allow us to log and monitor sound intensity, so everyone can enjoy their space in peace" Thank you, donttreadoneme

[update] Help! Wedding vendor is threatening to charge me for items I’m positive we’re returned

    Posted: 11 Mar 2018 01:21 AM PST

    Location: New Zealand

For those who offered up advice in my previous post regarding a wedding vendor threatening to charge me for some vintage glass items that I'm positive we've returned, she is now threatening to take us to court (https://www.reddit.com/r/legaladvice/comments/835j5w/help_wedding_vendor_is_threatening_to_charge_me/)

We sent an email to her, spelling out only the facts. The email was drafted by our friend, who is a commercial lawyer by trade.

She is saying that we verbally agreed to taking 2 extra glasses when we picked up -- but this is something that I do not recall doing at all. She is also accusing us of accusing her of being a liar, when in our email it literally just spells out the facts as we see them.

For those interested, here's the email chain https://imgur.com/a/SJLyb (names and businesses blurred for protection)

I feel like the way she's speaking to us is so unprofessional and honestly I don't want to bloody go to court over these stupid vases.

I guess now we just wait? Should I just pay her to get her off our case? It just shits me because I KNOW that they were returned.

[VA] Landlord trying to keep deposit because of the thermostat being left at 85 degrees F, and bathing my service dog in the tub.

    Posted: 11 Mar 2018 07:37 AM PDT

Hi, title says all. Among other things I'm attempting to contest, they are actively trying to keep my deposit on the grounds that the thermostat was 85 degrees F when I returned my keys and was fully vacated.

I've tried to do research if that's...an illegal thing to do? I don't think it is and it doesn't seem like it.

For the record I'm not super weird; on a good day I'll keep it at 80, but I have some health conditions that make me incapable of thermoregulating properly that I can prove, so I hope 85 isn't extreme or anything that's cause to damage the house (as far as it was mentioned to me it hasn't; just that it was at 85 and they didn't like that for some reason. I double checked my lease to make sure there wasn't anything about that in there).

One thing that I forgot to mention in the title is- there is one more thing I'm unsure of. They would also like to keep my deposit because they found dog hair in the bathtub drain. Nothing that clogged, just some strands. I use a strainer in the tub, and I only attempted to bathe my service dog once in there but it turned out he was way too big for the tiny tub, and I have receipts of taking him to frequently get groomed instead. I did truly only try to bathe him once in the tub, but is that wrong also? Should I not have done that? There's nothing in the lease about pets or pet specific things, because he is an active service dog and so this was an exception, so there isn't anything obviously about "no bathing dogs in the bathtub etc". Any insight on this would be really helpful, I just want to get all my ducks in a row.

    Thank you

[US - NYC] On a year to year lease as are my neighbors...if landlord raises my rent disproportionately to other tenants, is that discrimination?

    Posted: 11 Mar 2018 10:01 AM PDT

    Just wondering.

My rent when I moved in was 2300. Went up the next year to 2350. Year after that to 2700.

Building has 6 apartments. Top 2 have roofs so they are worth more.

Other 4 are all the same and the same price. Except I found out my rent went up to 2700 while everyone elses (in the non roof apts) went up to 2400.

I can't see any reason for this. Is there anything I could do, or is landlord free to set prices per tenant as they see fit?

Apt is not rent stabilized or controlled.

Is child support mandatory for the father if the mother has full custody?

    Posted: 11 Mar 2018 10:00 AM PDT

Florida. I was told by a lawyer I consulted with that the court decides this and child support is not something I can just defer. I am going to seek full custody of our 6 year old child, however I don't want any child support from my husband. I would also like to keep the house I bought after we married. The equity on the house is about $110k. Throughout the ten years of our marriage we have had separate accounts, this was upon his insistence. Although he makes 100k, the bills have always been primarily paid from my own money. My current income is $80k. In the first few years he contributed nothing. In 2012 he began to give about $500 a month. Then in the last 3 years he has grudgingly given about $1000 to $1500 every month. He has never covered the additional costs in home repairs and improvements. So in essence he gives almost the standard amount that would not even cover rent in a 1 bedroom apartment in our area. He is an extremely stingy person. He also had a severe gambling addiction for years which supposedly came to an end. These issues have made him protective of his own money and he becomes angry, verbally absuive, and at times the anger escalates into a frightening red mist if he is financially responsible for any large expense ie one year we did taxes separately and he had to pay back thousands. He nearly lost his mind. And still rages about it 5 years later. If he has to pay child support my life will be made hell. I just want to be free.

Tldr. I want full custody of our child, no child support, but I want to keep the house I bought after marriage. What are my options?

CT - Do I have any protections against my brother stealing from me?

    Posted: 11 Mar 2018 11:20 AM PDT

    Hi /r/LegalAdvice,

I am a seventeen year-old living in Connecticut. My younger brother and I have never gotten along well, and he has recently decided to get back at me after our (completely verbal) arguments by stealing stuff from my room. He has also recently "graduated" to stealing from my parents.

So far we have caught everything before it's been lost forever, but he has verbally admitted to planning to sell, pawn, or otherwise get rid of items of mine.

I have compiled a list of items that he has stolen below: * Laptop worth $1500 at purchasing, $800 now. (It's an Alienware PC given to me by Make-A-Wish)

    • Video games and various video game memorabilia. ($300 for the games (5 at 60 each) and $240 for the memorabilia (Amiibos, and some Collectors Edition Zelda stuff)

    • Unknown amounts of cash from me (I work in food service, so I have a lot of $1s from tips, many were missing)

    • Unknown amounts of cash from my parents

    • My parents iPad, and iPhone

My parents and I have put a lock on my door, but this hasn't worked as intended. The event resulting in me making this post is when, this afternoon my brother put pieces of plastic into my locked lock, effectively locking me out of my room until we can get into my second story window.

I know this post sounds very childish, but my parents and I are out of ideas. I don't know what I can do to protect my items. I'm just looking for suggestions, or avenues that I can take to stop this. As he is a minor (12 almost 13) I don't know what can be done.

I want to be clear, everything he's stolen from me has been paid for by me, except for a few video game items, which were given to me by Make-A-Wish a few years back.

Also, as far as I can tell everything stolen has been taken back (by my parents). But I don't feel like this is a viable long-term solution.

I know there are teenagers on here with much more important problems, but I appreciate the help from everybody.

    Thanks, Trainkid

    Received a w-2 from a employer I never worked for 2017

    Posted: 11 Mar 2018 12:02 PM PDT

I receive a w2 for the 4th quarter of 2017 from a employer I never worked for. It says that I earn around 60k from them, which I never receive the wage for. I'm going to fill out a form to IRS to report this problem. The company is in South Carolina. I lived in California from September to November. I can provide substantial evidence which can prove that I spent the vast majority of time in CA and can't possibly be working for them in North Carolina.

Can someone enlighten me on what is going on and what my best approach is.

My ex husband hacked my email and took photos to demand money

    Posted: 11 Mar 2018 10:01 AM PDT

    Hello everyone,

I'm an indian, who got married with a wrong guy who don't go to work and drink everyday. He beats me everyday in front of our child. So I thought to move away from him without endangering my son's life. I applied for a MBA program in France and moved to France on Oct 2016 and placed my kid with my mom with a agreement filed with court that his father cannot take him from my mom home. I fall in love with a guy in 2017, we are dating each other for a year now but the problem me and my current boyfriend took a few personal photos not too sexy like just kissing. My photos has been saved in Google photos in a email address I created in 2017 for applying jobs, which is not known to anyone only for a few of my friends here in France. Somehow my ex husband hacked into my email account and sending me my photos with my boyfriend. He is demanding to give him 500000 rupees in indian money that is nearly equal to 8000$ or else he will send the photos to my family and post it in internet. He also demands that I should give him my son or sponsor for my ex husband to come to France. The 8000$ is just for his pocket money then he wants money around 77000$ for giving these photos. Im just a student doing underpaying jobs to survive here. What are my options if i go to court for applying divorce, does he got an advantage of getting my son 8 years old or i have the advantage. The main problem is i couldn't apply for a divorce when i was in india because of his behavior. What are my options how can i deal with this? Note: yesterday my brother call him to speak for solving this problem, once he spoke with him. My ex husband called me again and said try to get the money from your brother i will give you a share.. He is totally physcho... Please excuse my english...

Question about custody with 7 month old

    Posted: 11 Mar 2018 10:14 AM PDT

Hey legal advice, this is going to be short and not so sweet.

Me and my ex boyfriend (who is still in college and now on spring break) have a 7 month old baby. We have many disagreements, especially about custody. I have not let our baby spend the night, I am still breastfeeding, but I don't know if that actually matters legally. Baby's father doesn't pay child support and recently quit his job. He also has never helped me out during the week. He now wants our baby this week since he's out of school, but wants our baby to spend the night so that he's not driving back and forth to get him.

Do I have to let him get him this week? Or let our child spend he night? He is legally the father, and has his paternity established. We have no custody orders or anything in place. I meet him once a week on Saturday at a halfway point to drop off/pick him up. Located in Georgia

Former Employer Paid me incorrect amount of money, will not fix paycheck, will not give me final paycheck. Minnesota USA

    Posted: 11 Mar 2018 01:29 PM PDT

Hello everyone! I live in Saint Paul Minnesota, where my place of work also is. I used to work at a restaurant, for roughly two years. I left to go on a trip for roughly 6 months (I was a part time employee, and at the time of leaving I was 16 years old) Upon returning, there was a new manager at the store, who being short on staff, re-hired me to my old position as shift manager. We had a verbal agreement that the amount I would be making is $10 per hour before taxes, which take I believe 8% from me, but i am reimbursed at the end of the year, because of how much I make. 2 weeks in the future I receive my first and only paycheck, and the hourly rate on the paycheck is only $9.65 I text my boss to get it fixed, he does not respond (note that at this time I am no longer working for this place. The day I received my paycheck was the last day I worked there. Now, because of how paychecks are filed, I was due to receive one final paycheck on the next payday. I go in and ask for the check, which they claim they do not have. Because of the sort of work environment it was there, i am assuming some form of foul play is going on. I am waiting for the next payday and see if my paycheck comes in then. However, I would like to be prepared for the worst. What I would like from them is the full amount of my original paycheck, (from 9.65 to 10.00), the second paycheck, and for the store manager to be reprimanded. There are multiple documented incidents of the current manager, who has employees under 16, working past 7 every single night, using knives, (which you must be 16 to do), and I have seen them using processing machines which you must be 18 to do. In fact, when I was 15 I often times worked past 7, and that was under the store owner. Thank you so much for reading, any and all advice is so very greatly appreciated. Have a wonderful day!

My manager just threatened to fire me (a supervisor at a chain of movie theaters) through text message for discussing the wages of another supervisor that were circulated through our establishment. Is this illegal? What can I do? I have the messages.

Edit: I live in Kentucky. Also, I'm an assistant manager working beneath a general manager. The general manager is the one who threatened to fire me.

Movie Licensing Rights for a Public Showing

    Posted: 11 Mar 2018 02:18 PM PDT

How do you report a bar that is showing illegal public viewings of movies they have not purchased the proper licensing for? Is it proper to report the illegal showings? Most of these movies are still in theaters or were just released and happen every week while being they advertised on social media. The most recent showing advertised for the bar is for next week and it happens to be "The Shape of Water." Thoughts?
