Clever strategies to reach people by phone?

    Posted: 03 Mar 2018 08:20 AM PST

Hey folks, I think this might be a bit of a dumb question, but I'm curious if anyone has what they consider a good strategy to help connect with folks over the phone? And by connect, I just mean getting them to answer the damn phone. I'll have stretches, sometimes of 100 calls without anyone even picking up.

I used to just pick an account and call, say, the 5 best people that my value prop would resonate with, and then jump to another account, another 5 folks, and then just continue on to my next account, and so on and so on. For the past quarter though, I chose like 50 people that I would just call on every day for like 2 weeks, and then call them at different times of the day. At the start of the quarter, it worked, I reached a few folks and it felt like I was on to something. Unfortunately, lately, its led me to nowhere and if anything, its shown me that some people simply do not answer their phones at all.

    .....

I'm going through some of the Jon Barrows training stuff, trying to get granular and better understand my own science behind my connection rates, as he would put it. My management wants us to make 50 phone calls a day (which is really stupid because its just an arbitrary number that our VP forced on us since day 1). I prospect into IT leaders from C-suite down to management, as well as procurement folks, also c-suite down to management.

Again, just curious if anyone has any sort of structure where they feel confident and felt, "Once I started doing x, it really helped me reach more people by phone".

    Thanks in advance.

Within 2 years I went from 0 sales experience, to working inbound calls at a call center, to being a top producer at a logistics company, and finally to accepting a job selling SaaS. I’m so happy that I had to share. Work hard to achieve your goals everybody.

How would you position digital marketing/SMM services to local businesses?

    Posted: 03 Mar 2018 01:42 AM PST

So obviously no business owner wakes up and thinks to themselves "gee..I wish I had some more digital marketing today."

The standard model of "sell the outcome" is getting kind of monotonous for me..the "outcome" of most local businesses is customers..but you can only say "would you like to get more customers" or "would you like 20 more consultations this month" before it starts desensitizing the close..

IMO I feel getting X more customers is definitely selling the outcome but it's not urgent enough..like it doesnt seem to hit the pain points enough.

One recent script I've been trying on restaurants are "Would you like to see a 50% increase of repeat customers this month?" or "Would you be interested in knowing how to reach your existing customers for your offers instantly and without spending any money on ads?"

I''m looking for more avenues I can use to get on the phone with local businesses as well as differentiate myself from being another marketing agency.

EDIT: My main lead flow channel is cold email outreach where I need to get these businesses interested enough to agree to an appointment with me.

How can I make sales reps comfortable without an office?

    Posted: 02 Mar 2018 01:19 PM PST

Hello, I own a SaaS company that's been in business 6 years. Prior everyone worked from home simply because I enjoyed my freedom and didn't want to be tied to an office. We're growing to a point now where in order to continue scaling I need to get an office and a real call center.

    Here's my Dilemma :

I am currently shopping for an office, but I don't have one yet. I would like to start hiring now. My ideal scenario would be to hire a few great sales reps, and have them work with me from my home (it's really nice), until we transition into an office a month or two later.

I would rent a conference room in a nice building and things for the interviews for a great first impression. This position will pay a minimal base pay, but be primarily commission. I was a top performing sales rep at other companies prior to starting this one. My concern is, my big thing was I wouldn't work at a company on straight commission unless I could see other reps making money and I knew I would have access to the same resources as them, leads etc.

So I feel like I am hitting two hard things here, 1) no office, so lack of credibility. and 2) No other reps. We have been in business for a while though, and we do have remote reps that have made money but they no longer work for me. The sales cycle definitely works, I can show recorded phone calls and I have the system very dialed in, anyone with some sales experience can see that it's the real deal. I also think the base pay, even though very minimal will help.

Anyways, my question is am I overreacting by thinking great people won't want to work with me until I get the office totally nailed down? Or is there some legitimate concern here? And IF there is reason to have legitimate concern, what are your ideas to help this?

Thanks in advance, and little side note. If you live in Los Angeles, I'm hiring!

    Selling DirecTV? Help needed!

    Posted: 02 Mar 2018 06:30 PM PST

So I've been with att for a bit now and I'm having some trouble selling Directv in particular, customers tend to say it's very unreliable when it isn't nearly as bad as it used to be, and are appalled at the dish. Now I sold it very well at my previous store where we had a less "rich" population but my new store where the area has many wealthier individuals, are giving me a really tough time.

How can I overcome objections without giving up?

I usually say no and just like drop it altogether or ask a little more and just stop.

Other individuals in my store sell on average about 4-6 a month. Compared to my 1... I've been in that store for about 2 months.

I hope this is the right area if not I apologize.

I turned down higher paying jobs. For those of you that stuck the course at one company for a longer period of time, I'd love to hear your success stories.

    Posted: 02 Mar 2018 02:00 PM PST

I'm a young guy, but I always thought that selling well, then moving on to a new company regularly is the quickest path to higher paying jobs.

I decided to stick it out at the company I'm at though, because I love the product, love the people, and I believe I'll grow here. Did I mess up?

How do you make time for your customers?

    Posted: 02 Mar 2018 12:55 PM PST

I've been doing PR for my company and recently I've been moving into more of a sales role.

I managed to find some red-hot-leads pretty quickly fast and closed with them, but between my existing obligations and maintaining my relationships with customers I feel pretty swamped.

What do you guys do to make more time for customers?

B2B Prospecting Tool, What Industries Would Benefit From This?

    Posted: 02 Mar 2018 12:10 PM PST

    Hello!

Choosing a position in B2B sales can be one of the most lucrative and beneficial career choices you ever make.

One of the keys to success, is to connect with as many of your ideal prospects as possible.

At our agency, we believe it is best for our consultants to spend their time wisely. We like to practice what we preach, and we strive to prospect efficiently and effectively.

We currently use Facebook advertising, and it has been very successful in producing a high quality lead flow, however there is one thing we have discovered to be an untapped gold-mine for B2B prospecting.

    I'm talking about LinkedIn.

There are numerous reasons why, but to highlight a few. -The average income is much higher than any other platform. -Users are looking to network, grow their business, and DO business.

This is where our ideal prospects are.

Initially we looked into LinkedIn Ads, we were steered away due to how expensive ad spend would be.

We needed to reach out directly to our ideal prospects, surpass the gatekeepers, and only speak to the key decision makers. We also wanted to eliminate the busy-work, so that our consultants could focus on working with warm prospects.

We created a proprietary service for our consultants to utilize.

With this service, we automated our LinkedIn prospecting efforts by running targeted prospecting campaigns on a massive scale; with any job title, industry and/or location of our choice. This includes a customized intro message, follow up message sequences, and the option of a monthly broadcast message to all connections for promoting specials, content, events, etc.. all crafted by our in-house copywriters.

***This is only available in-house. This post is not to promote this service, simply to ask for input and feedback.

We have allowed some of our current partners to utilize this service, and it has helped them grow and connect with their prospects in the same way. Consistently producing 12-26 warm prospects monthly, per account.

With a full team managing the operation, there are overhead costs, however our partners are fans of the $0 in ad spend.

So far, our partners have used this system successfully in the following positions: -Marketing Agencies -Insurance Brokers -Recruiters -Medical Device Sales Reps -Pharmaceutical Sales Reps -Merchant Services -Sales Coaches -3PL Brokers

After the positive feedback we have gathered from our current partners, as well as our personal success with this service, we are considering branching out and offering this to our partners in other industries.

I'd like to hear your feedback on a few things:

    1. What B2B (or possibly B2C) industries do you feel like this service would be beneficial in?

    2. What industries do you feel this would NOT be beneficial in?

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

Promising news in job hunt, likely leaving current workplace with psycho scheming sadistic manager soon. Any piece of advice from people who have been in this situation?

    Posted: 02 Mar 2018 07:18 PM PST

So I took PTO this past Wednesday and had two interviews that day. One was for a hot startup and the other was a phone screen with a manager at a well known enterprise, both came with promising news with the start-up asking me at the end when I will be able to start.

I also had a couple interviews last week too and heard back today that they want me on-site for one of them.

Don't want to count my chickens before they hatch but I am starting to feel more confident that I will be able to leave my current workplace, which is making me quite miserable, soon.

Now I work for a psycho, sadistic, and scheming manager and a couple of coworkers who are the same way, our team lead is like that and often likes to dig up dirt on people, probing into their lives outside of work as much as possible. I had one of my coworkers follow me home to my apartment complex to see which one I live in, scary.....

If you guys check my post history, my manager is a racist Hispanic guy who has talked about women in a terrible way in meetings, singled me out for being the only white guy on the team, has openly said he will hire minorities before whites any day, and then goes around calling others racist.

So I am getting close to where I put in my two-week notice, really doing it for our customers since I do not want to leave them out to dry, I am in an Account Manager role. Here are my questions:

1 - What should I be weary of? How can my psycho manager sabotage me during this time?

2 - If I am to be followed home by a coworker or even the manager himself, what should I do?

3 - What do I have in my arsenal to keep them at bay?

Guys, I really just want to leave this company in peace and transition out but think it might be tough with the racist sadist I am working under, all help will be appreciated.

Will changing my cell phone to a local number help increase my odds of leads answering my outbound calls?

    Posted: 02 Mar 2018 02:29 PM PST

Looking for your opinions please. I sell cars in a medium sized market and 90% of my leads and contacts have the same local area code. I conduct all calls with my cell phone in order to encourage the most direct line of communication. I have an out of state area code and I'm trying to determine if people are less likely to answer the call since it's not local. Thinking of changing my number to the local area code. Any insight is appreciated. Thanks!

Need an opening line selling to Tourists

    Posted: 02 Mar 2018 03:31 PM PST

I hand make fridge magnet souvenirs on small but powerful magnets . I print out images of photos I have taken of local tourist attractions and landmarks, that are listed as most photographed places in my city by tourists. Because I can make them at home whole while watching TV, there is no big time investment. I produce them for around .25 cents each and think they would sell really well to tourists at $1 each looking for a cheap keep sake of their trip.

I want to sell directly to the public. I don't want to get into the whole business thing, and sell to stores and get a business license and all that. I don't want to get rich, just augment my income when I retire.

    Questions about selling

Without setting up a booth at a flea market; I just want to have some magnets on a small piece of stainless steel sheet, small from craft store. Have a small sign on my bike and a display thing that says "Souvenir fridge magnets $1.00" or similar.

How do I approach people? What do I say? "Hey mister, wanna buy a Souvenir cheap?" Or just display and hope someone approaches me?

They really are cute and worth a buck, I just don't know how to flog them.

    Any help?

    Bill the magnet guy.

Need Help Writing a Business Plan to Land Dental Sales Rep Role

    Posted: 02 Mar 2018 12:02 PM PST

Guys, I just left a job interview for a dental supplies sales rep I really want to get into. I come from defense and educational sales. I sensed that they were impressed with my experience, they even had one nice comment about our rapport, but they were at the same time hesitant to give me any promising signals. One of the gentleman specifically brought up the fact that they had hundreds of thousands of product that I would have to be familiar with and that I would have to start in a customer service/inside sales role for 3 to 6 months just to get to a point of possible success. I of course agree, I do need some training as that's quite evident. But I also sensed that they may not call me back because of the missing knowledge gap. I really want this job though, and I think I would do absolutely fantastic in it so I'd like to go back to them with a business plan of how I will succeed, in perhaps the customer service role, but ultimately in the field. My plan of course includes a deep dive study to ramp up as quickly as possible in my knowledge base. Is there a structure that you guys could give me a tip on that would lay this out well? Also, what other tasks should I be including to make this plan as robust as possible. Right now I'm at two lines: 1. Take role - prove worth there by generating leads and 2. Grab a catalog and start doing the obvious
