    Who’s fucking amped for Monday????

    Posted: 11 Mar 2018 08:14 AM PDT

Its gonna be lit guys. Start of the workweek bitches. I'm gonna fire up the calculator and do some work son. I'm gonna fuck some numbers up. Probably drop a few formulas here and there Just something a little casual. But then, imma hit it with the conditional formatting and shut the whole shit down. Might even throw in a circular reference just to get the panties dropping. But don't worry, me and excel are gonna play the game real smooth. We don't wanna break a rule when the ball is in action and have to answer to the !REF. Yeah bros Monday's gonna be lit

    I feel dumb..

    Posted: 11 Mar 2018 08:20 PM PDT

Fresh graduate here last May of 2017. So I am in my entry-level job at a mid-tier public accounting firm. I'm an accounting associate. I feel so dumb because there's like a lot of things that I feel like I don't know. I feel like I didn't learn anything from college. Is there any advice that you can give me to improve my actual practice in Accounting? Is it a natural thing to feel this way?

    it keeps getting better!!

    Posted: 11 Mar 2018 10:17 AM PDT

there is a "slush fund" account on my client's TB that had $3,000,000 of activity in 2017 and they have $2,000,000 of book income.

and for whatever reason, the fully depreciated assets and their respective accumulated depreciation have been removed from the balance sheet. There is no accumulated depreciation whatsoever but I just so happen to have depreciation expense on the P&L.

How to Become a Fraud Examiner?

    Posted: 11 Mar 2018 06:38 PM PDT

I'm getting my masters in accounting with an undergrad degree in a different field. How do I get a job as a fraud examiner? I know I can take the CFE after a couple years of experience in accounting, but what other qualifications do employers like the IRS look for?

Finally passed the CPA-Exam-hellion by the hair on my chinny chin chin.

    Posted: 11 Mar 2018 06:34 PM PDT

FINALLY, after nearly 8 years of starting the journey towards this darn certification, I passed the last of the four horseman of the apocalypse with a 75 in REG. Further, the last of the four sections was completed in 17 months and 3 weeks of the 18 month window. I never REALLY WANTED this darn certification but started this journey years ago to establish a career safety net. My studies, or lack there of, reflected the lack of true desire for this certification. Regardless of how some of you may view this, my mantra was anything more than a 75 was studying way too much. Overall, I took the exams over the course of three years and 13 attempts (you would not believe how many 72, 73 and 74s I got). With each attempt, I dedicated less time to it than the one prior. Regardless, by sheer perseverance and some luck, I finally completed all four sections with FAR-80, BEC-78, AUD-75 and REG-75. I can say I am finally done with these F'in exams!!!

For those of you struggling to stay motivated to finish the exam, let my experience be an example that it can be achieved...even by the most reluctant of us. Best of luck!

Accounting watchdogs find ‘serious problems’ at 40% of audits

One piece of advice you'd give your clients...

    Posted: 11 Mar 2018 05:49 AM PDT

It's Sunday. I'm in the office. Deadline is Thursday.

DON'T TOUCH YOUR PRIOR YEAR TB. Don't make any out of period adjustments!

If you send me your TB (which isn't even in excel... it looks like you scanned it because you don't know how to export)... and retained earnings doesn't roll, I'm not going to be happy.

    This is accounting 101.

Can you make it big ($150K+) w/o Public Experience?

    Posted: 11 Mar 2018 07:14 PM PDT

I'm in the middle of my last semester and so far no luck with public accounting firms - it seems that my last option is to get into a Staff Accountant role. I'm worried that I'm disadvantaged compared to the other folks who went into Public Accounting because the exit ops are better. However, I'm a hard-working accountant based on feedback from other internships and I am proficient in Excel & Quickbooks w/ just Internship experience already.

Should I work as a staff accountant for a year and try to transition into a large public accounting firm? Is that a realistic opportunity for me or are staff accountants usually stuck in that field for a long time?

Leaving current job for a large pay increase or attempting to negotiate a counter offer. What would you do?

    Posted: 11 Mar 2018 07:57 PM PDT

Tomorrow I could be expecting to receive an offer from another company for 34% more pay than I am currently making. I currently love the company I am at however I am underpaid and believe there is stagnant growth within the company. If I do receive an offer, I was going to go and talk to my current employer and see if there is a possibility for more pay within my role. What is the ultimate factor in why I should leave or not leave? Would the 34% pay increase make it an easy decision?

[CAN] Studying for CPA Assurance Module Exam

    Posted: 11 Mar 2018 10:27 AM PDT

The assurance exam is in a few weeks. I'm taking it during busy season so it's pretty hard to really spend much time reviewing or studying so far.

For the people that have taken the exam, any tips on what to focus on? What's the best way to study? I find the immersive cases don't really teach you much. I have the Densmore cases as well. Are those helpful?

Will they ask you consolidation or pension questions?

    Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

How much of what I learn in class is used in the workplace?

    Posted: 11 Mar 2018 11:59 AM PDT

Hey guys! I'm currently in my 4th semester of a 6 semester accounting course that has a work placement. Basically my question is what the title says. I currently have a 65% average (I'm above the class average last I checked) and that's mostly due to me living a college life. I normally don't understand anything until an exam where I binge study and do well and then forget it all immediately after. I nailed a 85% in Computerized accounting and many of the professors said that if we do really well in that then we should do alright in the workplace. This sounds like I don't enjoy accounting but don't get me wrong, I really enjoy accounting and the work! I'm just concerned about if I'm not going to be prepared for when I'm out of college.

If this is any help I'm not looking at rising up in big 4 or a firm, I'd really love to get into private accounting and I'm thinking of pursuing the ACAF while working because my course provides us credits towards it already. Any help is much appreciated!

As a pizza delivery driver, can I claim my miles on my taxes?

    Posted: 11 Mar 2018 05:46 PM PDT

I'm about to fill out my taxes in the next couple days. I've kept track of all my gas receipts, my time cards, and the miles I drive while working. Can I claim any of that? We only get 27 cents per mile. But I saw that the reimbursement rate on taxes was something like 53 cents per mile. Could I claim that extra 26 cents? Or did I waste my time. Haha.

Meeting with a recruiter tomorrow - what to expect

    Posted: 11 Mar 2018 08:07 PM PDT

Big 4 senior here who is meeting with a recruiter tomorrow to discuss some future career opportunities. I've had discussions with recruiters in the past over the phone, but I've never had a meeting with one in person. Should I expect more of an interview setting or more casual get-to-know-me session? Any glaring do's or don'ts?

Homework question help, Equity Method for equity investments under IFRS with significant influence.

    Posted: 11 Mar 2018 07:41 PM PDT

Completing a case regarding Accounting for equity investments between Renault and Nissan. The question is as follows:

"Using what you know about the equity method, give an example of something that would increase/decrease the market value of the investment, but would not likely change the value of the investment in Nissan on Renault's financial statements until a few years down the road."

Would it be something related to an intangible? Like a new patent or goodwill changing substantially? Thanks for the help.

At my wits end for AUD and FAR is expiring soon. Any advice?

    Posted: 11 Mar 2018 07:10 PM PDT

Scores have gone like this (RIP EWS award):

    FAR: 98

    REG: 94

    BEC: 98

    AUD: 72, 70, 74

I am seriously out of ideas. It just doesn't make sense to me and it's like people are just making shit up on the fly. In one instance, they say you can't do something, but then turn around and say you can. Let alone substantive tests that can test multiple things or at least offer some extra sense of assurance for an assertion, but there's one one "most correct" answer.

I just don't know what else to do. I've tried Becker, I've done Matrix and Ninja Notes. I've done a little over 10k MCQs. I've read the Becker book thrice. I've listened to the worthless lectures. Is there anything else that can be done that I might not know about?

    I'd appreciate any advice.

Anyone follow a serious workout meal plan while working big 4 hours?

    Posted: 11 Mar 2018 08:52 AM PDT

Ive been working out consistently for 3 months but the next step for me to gain more muscle is to eat 2000-2500 calories a day. This is mainly in the form of 4-5 mini meals.

There is stuff all over the internet but nothing I really seem to connect with.

Figured id post here to see if anyone has a good routine going.
