    $AMZN doing too much ?

    Posted: 27 Feb 2018 06:51 AM PST

IS there such a thing as doing too much?

I've been holding off on buying Amazon as I think it is overpriced and they're trying to be an expert in everything.

It also seems people are investing far into the future with this stock.

What are some comparable companies in the past that successfully did what Amazon is doing?

    China stocks today

What stocks are you particularly bullish about?

    Posted: 27 Feb 2018 01:06 AM PST

And perhaps why that particular company. I'll keep it short, I'm an undergrad in a club at my Uni which combines the club funds for investment.

Currently, a littler under a third of our portfolio is cash, I'd love to put that chunk to good use. Overall we're sitting at a 13% return on the year; after Monday, up just under 2%.

    Thoughts?

    ETFs Vs Mutual Funds

    Posted: 27 Feb 2018 12:20 PM PST

    Hey guys,

I understand the fundamental difference between an ETF and a mutual fund (ETF can be bought sold throughout the day), But can someone give me pros and cons of investing in a mutual fund vs an ETF?

Is the primary difference that ETF's are more liquid in the event that you need to pull out your money? What are the penalties/risk in selling an ETF/Mutual fund in a short period of time? Thanks for all your guys help!

$CRON - First Nasdaq Cannabis Listing to Begin Trading Tomorrow

    Posted: 26 Feb 2018 02:47 PM PST

Cronos Group (TSXV:MJN, OTC:PRMCF) to begin trading tomorrow on Nasdaq Global Market after being elevated from the Nasdaq International Designation program. The first of Canada's licensed producers to do so.

At the end of last year the $MJX ETF (now $MJ) launched, which started a rally in the Canadian MJ sector as it was the first pure cannabis play available on NASDAQ.

I feel like this brings even more legitimacy to the MJ sector moving forward as it opens more investment avenues. Any of you plan on trading this?

Disclaimer: I currently hold a position in MJN

Where to Find Historical Gold Data?

I'm unsure if this is the right subreddit to ask, but would anyone happen to know where I could find historical gold data (ideally in excel format) in the form of 1-hour prices, 30 minute prices & 5-minute prices?

I've only found data for Minutely, Daily, Monthly & Yearly so far.

Help Analyzing a stock (To learn)

    Posted: 27 Feb 2018 09:29 AM PST

Would anyone be kind enough to analyzine a stock for me and then explain what they did so that I can do it myself in the future with different stocks?

For the sake of this experiment, i've been looking at:

    Patriot One Technologies Inc. (PAT.V)

Patriot One Technologies Inc., a technology company, develops radar device and software solutions. The company offers PATSCAN CMR, a cognitive microwave radar concealed weapons detection system to combat active shooter threats before they occur. Its solution is used for applications in public and private entrance points, and entrances to mobile environments. The company is headquartered in Vancouver, Canada.

This technology seems very useful to me, which is why I am interested in it.

    Thanks in advance!

Can and will index funds be automated in the near future? Or are they already?

    Posted: 27 Feb 2018 12:58 PM PST

My understanding of an index fund is that it's a fund made up of all the stocks in a particular index for example S&P 500 and a fund manager would put all this together. Obviously the fund manager doesn't have to pick the stocks, or do any form of analysis, yet they still generally perform better than managed funds. Will we just get rid of fund managers all together, as I'm sure a computer could manage a passive fund.

Edit: an index fund may not be made up of ALL the stocks in a particular index

Tax Report related - Wash loss disallowed

    Posted: 27 Feb 2018 12:53 PM PST

If amount of wash loss disallowed is greater than amount of loss, do I have a gain? I have lost money during 2017, but for some reason, it shows as I have a gain. The amount of gain shown in the system is equal to the amount of wash loss disallowed minus amount of loss. I am wondering if this is in error, or expected.

    EA for my portfolio?

    Posted: 27 Feb 2018 12:42 PM PST

Recently started diversifying my portfolio and stumbled upon EA.

Currently down almost 2% and was considering picking up some shares. I am slightly familiar with the company and how they run, but am curious to hear what other people think.

Looking at their charts, I think they've got some decent growth. However, I also notice that they are not a dividend stock. Most of my portfolio consists of dividend stocks.

I would consider my risk tolerance to be medium to medium-high. Thoughts?

    Thanks!

    Company Oprtions?

    Posted: 27 Feb 2018 12:39 PM PST

Hello! I'm not sure if this post belongs here but I figured I'd take a shot.

I'm leaving my company and have the option to buy a fair amount of shares. I believe in the company but don't have the necessary capital to front to buy all of the shares that have vested.

Does anyone know if it is possible to buy company shares and flip them for a profit? Or, is this a bit different where if I were to buy my shares I'd basically have to sit on them until something happened with the company?

    Thanks!

    Algo Bumps?

    Posted: 27 Feb 2018 11:39 AM PST

So, im watching the tape very closely on my dashboard, both the DOW and the Nasdaq.

In watching the live tickers, the stocks usually move in a somewhat delayed but synchronized way.

But then, in the middle of both indexes declining, a Single massive Blip shoots BOTH of them up at the exact same time with incredibly unusual volume.

    WTF is this?

There wasnt any news or anything and they carried on their own decoupled movements right after, but for that 1 second, something huge moved both of them up massively, at the exact same time.

Can anyone enlighten me as to what this could be? It was a 1 second blip out of nowhere and affected both the DOW and Nasdaq.

edit: For anyone that has a means to backcheck it happened at 2:32pm.

    When to sell MU?

    Posted: 27 Feb 2018 10:29 AM PST

No, this is not /r/wallstreetbets. Yes, I actually bought MU.

I bought it in late Jan, rode it through the correction (10% drop), and now have an 11% profit. My original exit strategy was to sell near the 5 year high ($49.89). I thought of selling early at a two points, but held off due to positive news and a chart pattern suggesting upward movement (both paid off).

Should I stick with my original exit plan? Or is there potential for a higher move?

    Transportation Stocks

    Posted: 27 Feb 2018 10:18 AM PST

My 3rd post on the topic, but i really don't see how the Transportation sector gets so little discussion on here. You guys have missed out on a 400% upside on $XPO, 100%+ on SWFT ever since the SWFT / KNIG merger (ticker $KNIX), FedEx had a great run last year... etc. Just wanted to put this out there in case anyone was looking to diversify.

The transportation industry is going under HUGE changes right now, especially on the TL / Flatbed side with the new E-Log mandate that just passed.

Why is Ford still down 18% while the market has mostly recovered?

    Posted: 26 Feb 2018 08:35 PM PST

I looked to see if this is a sector thing, but its not. Other automobile companies have recovered. Ford is almost full on bear. Is it their choice to keep a dividend of almost $0.15 with 4 billion outstanding shares that is hurting their valuation? What gives? Their balance sheet isnt terrible, and their quarterly statements show a stagnate but still decent revenue stream. Their net margins seem to vary but have been about 5% for a dew quarters now. What am I missing, because I must be missing something. I dont check the news as much as I should.

Thoughts on 3x leverage etf’s such as (GUSH, FNGU)

    Posted: 26 Feb 2018 11:51 PM PST

I have traded both and their inverse pair. I have always held for a day a less. Thoughts on this type of ETF and holding for extended blinks of time? I have found its easy to find when there is momentum and oversold or overbought. I use RH so I am limited by the only type of trades being BUYs but can buy their counterpart if I am bearish.

Change my views on $BAC and other big bank stocks

    Posted: 27 Feb 2018 08:47 AM PST

Everything I've read is that the financial market and in particular $BAC will have a great year or 2 for 2018/2019. I am trying to convince myself to buy into big bank stocks but I'm still bitter about the whole '08 crisis that were caused in part by their shitty lending practices.

Since I'm failing at convincing myself to buy, maybe the community here can talk me into it
