Robert Greene's Laws of Power for Sale Success Posted: 01 Feb 2018 06:36 AM PST Author Robert Greene, famous for writing books like The Art of Seduction, The 50th Law, and Mastery, wrote one of the best books on power called The 48 Laws of Power. In it, Greene draws lessons from the most powerful people to ever live, including Machiavelli, Sun Tzu, and P.T. Barnum. At this link you can read 5 of them, I found them pretty useful: https://www.phoneburner.com/blog/robert-greenes-laws-of-power-for-sales-success/ [link] [comments] |
Give me some feedback on my elevator pitch? Posted: 01 Feb 2018 11:07 AM PST Hey guys, My lead gen company is picking up speed so I commissioned this whiteboard video. It wasnt very expensive, and its pretty basic. But I want to know if my value prop makes sense to people that are not me. [link] [comments] |
Have you ever been fired for poor performance? Posted: 01 Feb 2018 09:10 AM PST I am at risk of losing my first sales job after two years for poor performance. I think this job just hasn't been the right fit for me, so I'm looking at new roles with other companies, but I'm worried I'll be fired before I find a new job. Have you ever been through this and how did you deal with it? ETA: More details given in response to the first comment [link] [comments] |
Does anyone have experience with Winning By Design sales methodology? Posted: 01 Feb 2018 12:47 PM PST I'm trying to find out more about the Winning By Design method. What is their philosophy, methodology, etc? [link] [comments] |
Ever bitten off more than you can chew? Posted: 01 Feb 2018 12:44 PM PST I just started my independent agency, doing outbound sales for digital marketing agencies. My target clients are usually the smaller type, around 10 employees, that target small businesses. But, I just got in contact with a potential client who runs a bigger, 30+ member strong digital marketing agency who represents larger businesses like small manufacturers, and service agencies in the several $million+/year size. Naturally I'm a little nervous about acquiring a client that wants to go after those bigger fish than I'm used to. I'm sure this is a common feeling, and taking leaps of faith are what sales is all about, but I'd love to get some advice from the community. [link] [comments] |

When is the best time to tell a potential customer that you will price match? Posted: 01 Feb 2018 12:24 PM PST I sell for a construction company (B2C, B2B and B2Goveenment). I have competitors that do very similar work, and as such pricing is quite competitive. When giving prices, should I let them know up front we'll price match. Any time I do I feel like I'm letting them know I can go cheaper, but when they tell me they've got other companies they're looking at I feel a pressure to say it... [link] [comments] |
What makes you immediately click away from an email? Posted: 01 Feb 2018 08:34 AM PST What's a specific thing that immediately turns you away from an email because it looks spammy? I'm on a million email lists and I throw up a little bit when people use so much forced enthusiasm in their subject line [link] [comments] |
Confusing discussion with HR in the middle of my probation time Posted: 01 Feb 2018 12:17 PM PST Hey guys, Somehow this post is not directly related to our every day sales topics, but I hope it could start a discussion and also help me understand the things I am going to tell you now. On the other hand I think it is something everybody of us has to deal with either with customers or colleagues. I'm a sales guy at a company within the medical field in Central Europe. I'm in charge of customer care for our biggest and well known medical customers, as well as acquiring new customers. I just joined this company couple of months ago after being headhunted and just had my probation time interview with our head of HR yesterday. Before joining this company I worked basically the same before for 3 years after leaving university. My previous company had a really toxic work environment. I had to deal with loads of pressure, reporting and was being shouted at at least 2 or 3 times a week, even though sales was not at fault. I was trained to be focused on facts and drilled to perform no matter what. My new company is completely different. The management is kind of weak, but very concerned about employees satisfaction. Many crucial processes and sales related structures are not existing yet. They have high hopes on me, because I am the first sales guy in this otherwise very successful company and they rely on me to build up the sales department, also because the whole company seems to think my boss is not tough enough. Let's get back to the initial conversion, which made me wonder since yesterday. Basically our Head of HR told me, that he is impressed by my professional skills and my control over my emotions and temper. With the doors closed, he suddenly recommended me to be a little bit more myself during work - for me it sounded like he told me to be more rude and express my emotions towards my boss (C-level) and other colleagues -because I always seem to be highly focused and trained to not break character as sales guy by showing real emotions. He told me that everybody in the company is doing whatever they like without being punished whatsoever and I am allowed to do the same even though I'm still in probation time because he thinks I waste to much energy on being the sales guy I mentioned and I could eventually get sick by doing so. I am now really confused as to why he would say something like this. It almost seems like he thinks my boss and many of my colleagues are not fit for the job and are kind of out of control and he wants me to fix it by stepping up to take control. I would like to know from you, what you think he is telling me and I would like to know how you handle your emotions in sales and also private life. Do you tend to complain if you don't like something and how do you express yourself towards colleagues and customers, which actually deserve to be handled roughly? Thanks everybody for your opinions and feedback! TL;DR HR told me to be more myself and let out emotions during work, because it's wasting to much energy to control myself and he's worried I will get sick or get a breakdown in the end. What is a more rewarding sales job Stockbroker or real estate agent? Posted: 01 Feb 2018 10:24 AM PST I've been working in sales for 4 years, I'm in my early 30's, and I enjoy it for the most part. For me, I prefer the dynamic atmosphere and yes, the money... I can cold call all day until I'm blue in the face, and I am successful at it. I have sent out emails, fliers, hand-delivered brochures, and called headquarters for countless companies. I want to get in front of MORE people FASTER. There are only so many hours in the day. If I REALLY try I could probably touch 20 potential accounts in a day. I am already exceeding my sales goals, but I want to do more. I sell a service in which ALL business owners a required to have, on a contractual basis. The sales process is very long usually, so building up my pipeline is crucial. I recently switched from one company to another due to an acquisition, and I refused to work for the company that bought us out for my own personal reasons. (I guess that's not too pertinent to the subject.) How do I reach more potential clients? I can probably expense some sort of advertisement through the company, or trade services (radio stations?). If there are any questions I can answer to clarify my scenario, please let me know. [link] [comments] |
Engineering student, personality-wise I'm completely unsuited but I want to do it anyway. Posted: 01 Feb 2018 05:42 AM PST Basically the title. INTJ personality, computer engineering student. Over 90% in introversion and also in thinking, meaning less than 10% in extroversion and feeling. If anyone is familiar with the Big 5 personality test, I'm exceptionally low in agreeableness (1st percentile), low in extroversion (20th percentile, and exceptionally low in enthusiasm but high in assertiveness) but high in conscientiousness (87th percentile) and openness. I suppose my question is, are there many people here who were naturally introverted before beginning their careers. I'm not lacking in confidence and get a lot of female attention, so I'm not socially stunted or anything. Just someone who spends a significant amount of time on my own. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Feb 2018 08:12 AM PST I have an interview tomorrow for a sales job. I think I might have to do cold calling and door-to-door sales. This will be my first sales job. There is no salary it is only Commission. Do you guys think it is worth it/Any tips? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Jan 2018 08:02 PM PST Current work is more of an Account Manager at a large enough SaaS company and I am trying to move into an SDR or BDR type role, this is my first real job out of college (worked retail before this). After realizing 2 months ago that no matter how well I do at my current job, I have no future at my current company due to politics not in my favor and management just disliking me (some of it due to past actions I cannot change but have learned from), I know had to start my job search. One promising opportunity at a company that is a household in SaaS fell through the cracks despite a referral. Been reaching out and connecting with recruiters to set up opportunities but only been able to get 2 for start ups, both of which seemed scammy and pay was awful (30k OTE in a big city). I've reached out to recruiters who work for top tier companies out there but that has been a complete failure as well. I know I will deal with this on the regular when I go into software sales but its kinda different dealing with it right now in my situation. Going to work everyday is a drag now for me because of how toxic the culture at the workplace is (which led to me looking elsewhere) and I do not feel nearly the same sense of optimism I felt for my job starting out. What worse is I feel like I have made this sub into my weekly outlet because I hate life at my current job while the job hunt is ending up a total disaster, and I heard this is supposed to be the easiest time of the year to get hired. At this point, anyone who has dealt with this before have advice for me? [link] [comments] |
Transitioning out of a sales career. Any advice on suitable fields? Posted: 01 Feb 2018 01:05 AM PST I've been in commission based retail sales for 8 years and was recently let go from my latest job. Truth be told I started to fundamentally hate the concept of selling and I started to resent my own attitude What's a good field to transition to if I have the sales experience that I do? How To Maintain Your Network Of Business Acquaintances? Posted: 31 Jan 2018 09:46 PM PST I used to send a pretty short email to all my contacts. However, I usually lose interest because most of my contacts don't serve my short and medium term needs. Also, maintaining so many contacts this way made me connect superficially with each contact. However, I don't think it would be possible to have coffee with every contact to establish a better relationship. How do you maintain your network? [link] [comments] |
Will Companies Pay a Relocation Assistance for Sr Level Salesman? Posted: 01 Feb 2018 03:43 AM PST Basically, as it stands now I am a glorified "VP of Sales". I was a BDR for a company, did exceedingly well, and before I knew it they offered me a VP of Sales position at their sister startup. It's been a year and they are still not close to being able to sell this solution (still need to do more research, get a patent) I've also recently cofounded a company, but that's too young to even mention. I guess I'd be looking at a Sr. Sales role in IT (preferably IT security sector - IoT - or blockchain) The problem is that I am an American living in Europe making a small European salary. I know my skills and sales work match up well with any candidate.... But would it be enough for a company in a big city like San Fran, LA, NYC, Boston, Toronto offer relocation assistance? Is that realistic or should I not waste my time right now and save up for a big move (which could take a year or two) [link] [comments] |
Is there free lead gen emails out there like Elucify? Posted: 31 Jan 2018 06:45 PM PST Not sure if anyone used Elucify, but they unfortunately got acquired. You were able to get a few hundred email addresses for free per week. Any other services like that out there? [link] [comments] |
Recently Interviewed for a Sales Job at a Tech Company, got the job, but offer is late. Posted: 31 Jan 2018 02:06 PM PST So, I had an in person interview on Monday for a sales job at a small tech/software company. I definitely nailed the interview because the owner of the company texted me a really person message that night saying I did a great job in the interview and that I got the job later on in the day, and that I would receive an offer tomorrow (Tuesday). Well, its now Wednesday, 3PM where I am and I still have no offer. I understand the importance of patience but I also know that in sales you can't be afraid to ask for what you want. so, should I keep waiting for another day or should I call him and ask about the offer... thanks. My sales process as a new lead gen company Posted: 01 Feb 2018 12:34 AM PST Hi, I'd like to share my lead gen sales process and get feedback for improvement if you have any. An agent calls a list of businesses in a specific niche asking if they'd like to receive some customers. If the response is lukewarm, the 2nd line in the script clarifies who we are, where the leads are coming from, and that this is indeed completely free. The script then goes into info gathering. We get their important information, telling them it's better if we do the scheduling because otherwise the leads go cold if not called back and scheduled fast. Finally, we ask if they might be interested in working with us if they like the results they get. We're looking for an affirmative answer before we start the free trial. The free trial then turns on and we try to get 10 leads and convert half to signups. 3 of the 5 attending is a good result. All the signups are called or emailed to the free trial account's contact. After we hit our numbers, I give the contact a call and ask if they've been getting signups. If they sound content I ask if I've earned them as a client. So far I have won an account and lost an account. The one I won really needed the help so not sure if my process is really solid or not just yet. About payments: new clients are sent an email link to pay for a small setup fee and a block of 10 initial leads. After the 10 are used, another 10 are billed until cancellation. So that's what I have going now. Anything stand out as a place for improvement? [link] [comments] |
