New Car New Policy While Old Car's Claim Still Open Posted: 05 Feb 2018 01:55 AM PST Hi Guys, I was in an accident possibly 25% at fault (0% fault if I am lucky), my old Mustang V6 is being written off (door & fender dents) and we would settle for ~$5k CAD. My adjuster told me to drop my car off at my neighborhood's body shop and he will send me a check. Now I need a car to work my manager job. I am going to buy a 2017 Demo car (new car) and shop for a new insurance policy. My last accident was in 2014 March 0% fault being hit-and-run. Any possibly that I would get denied a coverage? I have this open claim and it is going to take weeks. I know I have to declare there is an open claim with my current insurance company. But are they going to assume myself being 100% at fault until concluded otherwise? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Feb 2018 11:05 AM PST Insurance company wants a complete itemized break down for the cost of a new roof. The roofing company says this is unreasonable as they bulk purchase items and states a thorough individual breakdown would drive the overall cost up (this doesn't effect me as my hurricane deductible is met at $3400 regardless). I am unsure of the costs a public adjustor might have. Would you go the route of a public adjustor or find a new roofing company willing to meet the insurance company's demands? Thank you all. Received a letter from health insurance about accident I had Posted: 04 Feb 2018 10:07 PM PST Several months ago I was run over while crossing the street. Claims submitted to health insurance and I've now received a letter asking questions about the accident. I'm well aware of why and health care liens, but my questions here today is about how to answer the "who was at fault?" question. What happened was I crossed while the light was red, but stepped into the cross-walk while the hand was blinking. I knew I would have enough time to make it, so I went. The driver who hit me ran the red light (I looked up and saw the red light right before he hit me) and he told the officer he did not see me in the crosswalk because he was looking down at his phone. The officer who took the report botched it pretty bad. He did not include the fact the driver confessed to being on his phone, and even though two witnesses told him the driver ran the red light (which did appear in the report), he still blamed me for being hit. Additionally, the officer included in the report "answers" I gave to several questions which I can assure you I was not asked. These answers don't have any effect on fault, but it was clear the officer 100% bullshited this report. (For example, he claims to have asked me what happened and I said the car hit me and I hit the hood and rolled. Untrue, aside from the fact I was never asked that, I tried to jump out of the way the last minute so when the car hit me, I was propelled further to the right, the direction I was jumping in. I never hit the car hood and the report documents no damage at all to the car). I didn't pursue the driver in court because he's broke af and I can't pay an attorney to get blood from stone. Driver's insurance only covers 25k/person and I had 50k in med bills alone. Not to mention the fact I don't have the time or mental well-being to go through a trial. I have great health insurance and my whole copay was less than 100 TOTAL for everything that was done. My injures weren't that bad (mostly neurological, but thankfully temporary), and I was walking home within a few hours. Question is, how do I answer who was at fault? I didn't fight the police report because I never intended to take this guy to court. Should I just write what the report said or should I assert what I genuinely believe is true; that the driver was at fault? [link] [comments] |
How to make sure I have health insurance as I go to school and job hunt in a different state? Posted: 04 Feb 2018 01:35 PM PST I am currently a Texas resident with health insurance through my job. I am planning to leave my job in the next few months, and attend a 6-week course that will help me get certified to work in a new field. The course will be in a different state (Florida). There is a small chance I might be offered a job during the course but it is also likely I will be job-hunting for a month or three afterwords. I am not sure where I will be living at that point, I may be back in Texas or I may be in a 3rd state with family. The job I expect to eventually get would offer healthcare benefits. During this time, I want to make sure I have at least minimal health insurance so that if something catastrophic happens like a car accident I won't end up in horrendous debt or bankrupt. I am currently healthy and don't plan on using the insurance otherwise except for a single prescription that I could pay for out of pocket if necessary. My first instinct is to try to get healthcare through the Affordable Care Act and poking around on healthcare.gov makes it look like I would qualify to enroll in a special enrollment period since I will be losing coverage through my job when I leave the job. The part that confuses me is how all the moving around will affect my coverage. I don't know whether to try to find coverage based on the zip code where I'm currently living, or the zip code where I will be living for the six weeks I'm in school. And when the class finishes and I move states again it looks like I'd need to reapply for new coverage. Assuming I reapply immediately upon moving, would my coverage be continuous? Am I on the right track here? Is there something I'm missing? Thanks for your time! [link] [comments] |
Recently bought a honda accord and need help on what kind of coverage I should get. Posted: 04 Feb 2018 04:30 PM PST So I used to own a junker car and just had liability insurance. I didnt even pay attention what exactly they covered, just got something that was cheap. Now, I bought a new car and I feel like I should be more careful. Right now with my current insurance, it looks like for bodily its 25000/50,000, property 20,000, and uninsured motorist 25000/50,000. Not exactly sure what the "/" are for. I could call them tomorrow during their normal hours and get more info. However, liability and Full coverage has the same amounts, just that full has a comprehensive and collision 500 dollar deductible. I guess what I'm asking, what kind should I be shooting for? is 25/20/25 ( 50/ 20 /50) too low? [link] [comments] |
Is ACA (Obamacare) enrollment an option now that I lost my job? Posted: 04 Feb 2018 02:35 AM PST Hello. I apologize if this is such a basic/obvious question. I just lost my job which has provided my health insurance for the past 10 years. The last time I lost a job, I remember that COBRA was an option. If my understanding is correct, going on COBRA would allow me to continue to have the same health insurance that I had with my employer, but I would have to pay 100% of the premium. I have paid attention only casually to information about the ACA the past few years. One thing I do know, is that the open enrollment period is at the end of the year each year and that open enrollment is now closed. Here are some questions I am hoping that can be answered: 1) Is losing my job a "qualifying event" that makes me eligible for ACA coverage?2) Is the COBRA law still basically the same as it was 10 years ago -- i.e. I can continue with my current employer's plan as long as I pay 100% of the premium?3) If the ACA and COBRA are both options, what are the pros and cons of choosing each one? I have heard a lot about ACA subsidies for low income individuals and since my income is now basically zero, I am assuming I would qualify for ACA subsidies, but if I stayed on my employer's plan through COBRA, I am assuming I would have to pay the full premium with no subsidies.4) However, since I am nearly 50 years old, I assume that to enroll in an ACA plan I will need to fill out an application and because of my age and medical history, the premium may be higher than what I would pay by staying on my old employer's plan through COBRA. Also, I am assuming ACA enrollment (if I am eligible) would allow me to choose from multiple different plans where as with COBRA, I can only stay on the plan I had with my previous employer.5) I don't want to start a political debate here, but I have heard a lot about Donald Trump and the Republicans basically wanting to "destroy" Obamacare and I know they have taken steps to weaken the law. Will Obamacare still exist in the coming months? If I am eligible to enroll in the ACA, should I even bother?Any information that could be provided regarding my health insurance options at this point would really be appreciated. I just lost my job on Friday and I am still trying to process all of the changes that are in store for me going forward. I live in the Portland, Oregon metro area in case that is relevant. I know that our state tried to build its own ACA exchange (Cover Oregon), but it failed. Therefore, I believe I would need to use the Healthcare.gov website if I want to explore my ACA options (if there are any). Thank you for any help that you may be able to provide. [link] [comments] |
