[Update] My daughters mother was in a car accident and is in a coma, her grandparents are not letting me see my daughter. [AZ]

One thing I can say before getting into the update is if you are separated and have children, make sure there is an official filing in your states family court that determines paternity (that you are, in fact, the parent of your child) and that you have some form of custody on file with the court as well. Even if it is a joint custody form with only a few hours of visitation it is a document that shows the police that you have some form of custody of your child. The police outright refused to help me in my situation without showing proof of custody and paternity from the Arizona Family Superior Court.

Here is a link to the original post: https://www.reddit.com/r/legaladvice/comments/762kne/my_daughters_mother_was_in_a_car_accident_and_is/

    Update:

Recently I was able to get an official ruling from the court and feel more comfortable posting an update publicly.

I was able to pick up my daughter from her grandparents home the next day with filing a "Motion for Temporary Order Without Notice." The Motion requires you to fill out quite a few other motions and schedule a joint custody trial as well as create a parenting plan before you can submit it for the judges approval. I had to explain, in writing, to a judge why there was an emergency factor involved with me needing to pick up my daughter immediately and the judge, after reviewing my motion, had to draw a temporary full custody order that I could show to the police and other parties involved to allow me to pick up my daughter.

I talked with a lawyer who was nice enough to tell me the names of the forms I needed to file and how/where to file them without charging me a fee. The down payment for starting a custody case was quoted to me at over $2000 with the other lawyers I talked to before they would even look at the case and another lawyer offered to just charge a per court appearance fee but not help with any forms/paperwork as a cheaper option. None of those options really worked for me so I took the first lawyers advice with the forms I needed to file and did everything on my own.

I was lucky I had a few hundred dollars available to spend to file this order. I was lucky it was a weekday and the courts were open. Do not count on being lucky. File joint custody paperwork with your state immediately if you have children and haven't done so already. Do not put yourself in a position where someone can take your child and you not be able to do a thing about it.

After receiving temporary full custody things were pretty straight forward. The document expired every 30 days so there were status conferences set with the court every 30 days until the other party could appear in court.

I am happy to say there is now a permanent custody agreement in place officially and if anything happens in the future it won't be such a nightmare, I won't feel so helpless and in fear of my daughters safety, and I will be able to show proof that I am legally responsible for her. Hopefully I never need to use this document for this reason again but please don't end up in my situation and file official custody paperwork with the court in your state if you are unmarried and have children. It may save you from a situation such as mine.

Edit because I didn't make it entirely clear: For those of you concerned, my ex has woken up and was able to attend court which is how there is now a permanent custody agreement in place and she seems to be making a recovery.

Stillborn delivered in Sept in an out-of-state hospital. Been waiting on remains for months. Come to find out, body has not been cremated and still in morgue. No one from the hospital reached out to us until I did some digging. Do I have a case to present?

    Posted: 01 Feb 2018 09:40 AM PST

A little background... my wife and I had a stillborn last fall. We signed the forms to have him cremated and delivered to us since we lived in a neighboring state. I called a couple months later to find out the status and was told that they would reach out to me regarding the shipment of remains.

It had been nearly 5 months now when I still had not heard anything. I actually posted on r/babybumps to see if this timeline was normal. It was blatant that this was not the norm, and I went into panic mode to try to contact the hospital to find out what was going on.

Come to find out, I was told that this hasn't been shipped because a form that was needed wasn't signed. Not only did anyone from the hospital not reach out to us about this, I was told that the body was still in the morgue and had not been cremated.

The lady gave me a bunch of excuses for this, apologizing, blaming it on a new system, etc., and I reached out to Risk Management to inform them of this. They definitely got the ball rolling and are getting this taken care of so we can have some closure, but other them majorly dropping the ball, is this something to bring up as a suit to make sure there is oversight on this and it won't happen again in the future?

tl;dr - hospital botched making us aware of document needed to cremate body. Body has been in morgue for nearly 5 months without us knowing.

Edit - Looks like I left out location in Title. This occurred in TN. I live in NC

Boss wants to forgo pay for anyone who has not worked a minimum of 8 hours

    Posted: 01 Feb 2018 08:44 AM PST

Im fairly certain this is illegal but, im not sure which laws govern it. I plan to go in to talk with the person who handles our pay once i get an argument together. I don't plan on getting a lawyer unless this really escalates. I live in Wisconsin USA, if that matters at all.

Edit: i guess this was solved. Thanks for the quick response. This was much simpler than I thought.

Sister rear-ended someone, but they left the scene.

    Posted: 01 Feb 2018 05:55 AM PST

So, I just got a phone call from my sister who told me she had rear-ended a woman on a back road while headed into our work. The lady and she both got out of their cars, the other woman told her she didn't have time to deal with this, got back in her car, and left. My sister is still on scene, she is calling the insurance company and the cops, but I want to find out what kind of trouble she is likely looking at. This happened in Georgia (United States), so if any one can give me a rough idea, I can see about helping my sister out. Thank you!

My sister was recently harassed and stalked. The stalker was caught outside where we were eating.

    Posted: 01 Feb 2018 09:31 AM PST

(California) I would like to start out by saying that, yes, we will be contacting a lawyer. I just want to be well informed for the meeting.

Backstory: Around 2:00 yesterday my sister received multiple messages from a person she met at a football game a little over a year ago. She was 14, now she's 16. He is now 19 years old. When my sister responded, the stalker told her she "smells nice" and he wanted to meet her again. Up to this point the messages were amusing and we assumed it was just a prank.

However, he then told her he was heading to our house and he was only a few minutes away. He sent us our home address (I assumed it was to intimidate us) before she blocked him. He never showed up and we (foolishly) dismissed it as a weird person.

This is where things got bad. I took her out to Olive Garden for dinner. While we were waiting for our food she got another text from a different number. He claimed he was actually nice. She said she was going to block him but before she did, he sent her a dick pic. He then told us the correct location of where we were eating. We ended up calling the police and the stalker was detained.

That brings us to today. We have filed for a restraining order, but that isn't good enough for me. What can (and should) we do?

I was fired for emailing HR about my pay. Was I wrongfully terminated?

    Posted: 01 Feb 2018 12:17 AM PST

I was a personal assistant to the president of a Company. After working 60 hours my first week, I submitted my hours to him when he requested. I carefully wrote out the spreadsheet, included hours, duties and date. This having been the first job where I have to submit my hours in this nature, I highlighted the fact that I worked 20 hours overtime (even wrote the exact time when the overtime started). The following day, he lets me know that "at "Company Name" over time is only paid after having worked 80 hours in a two week period." I instantly googled it, found that such practice is illegal, and sent an email inquiring about this issue to the Director of HR. She said that I was absolutely correct and that she would let Mr. President know. Instead she just forwarded my email to him. The next day he confronted me. First he talkeddown to me, saying he was wrong about the hours, then he completly did a 180 and began yelling at me saying "How could you go behind my back?" And then screamed at me some more until he fired me. I worked 80 hours in the span of 9 days for this, everything was going well, until he flipped out over my inquiry to HR.

This is happened in New York City.

Interview with PizzaHut and the manager said he would have to pay me less for a manager position because I was a female. Is this sexual discrimination?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2018 05:17 PM PST

(Texas) He disclosed the male employees pay before telling me that even that I had more experience then the male employee, I would only be paid $0.50 less then him. I reported him to HR but they have yet to call me back or do anything.. what can I do?? because I'm sure I'm not the first female he has done this to..

[Atlanta] I'm being forced to move out because HOA won't allow my property owner to lease the unit he owns.

    Posted: 01 Feb 2018 10:28 AM PST

Yesterday I received a call from my property manager on behalf of my property owner. I was told that I have 30 days to move out because my property own lost a case against the HOA. It was ruled that he is not allowed to lease the unit. I'm currently residing in Atlanta, GA. My lease is up in April 2018. Is there any legal action that I should take?

Ontario, Canada Employees Right to not be photographed

    Posted: 01 Feb 2018 07:32 AM PST

Throwaway because people at work Reddit.

We had a customer make a video at are store recently. She was with a group of friends from England and was showing our shop (admittedly it is a bit of a touristy shop with lots of nick-nacks on the wall).

One of our staff became very irate at being filmed and demanded that the young lady delete the video. The cashier spewed things like "invasion of privacy" and "did have his permission to be filmed".

I know that out in public the cashier would SOL because there is no reasonable expectation of privacy. But what about in a private buiz like a store?

As the owner of the shoppe, do I need to have it in writing that employees may be video/photographed while working? Is my cashier correct that he has a right, while on the clock, not to be videoed?

If someone could point me somewhere that states this it would probably help... my cashier fancies himself an armchair lawyer.

Mechanic never told me my car was broken into (NC,USA)

    Posted: 01 Feb 2018 05:51 AM PST

I went on vacation for 9 days in December, and had my car dropped off at the mechanics for some routine maintenance. Car was dropped off on 12/20, and picked up on 12/30.

A month later, I received a 'victims impact statement' from the local D.A. asking for any ways I was affected by a breaking/entering and larceny which I never reported or knew of. I called the court, and they informed me someone was caught breaking into my car while it was stored at the mechanic, and was caught with $1.25 from my center console.

The mechanic never told me this happened. If they did, I would have combed over my car right when I picked it up. There was no damage to the car, so I assumed it was left unlocked by the mechanic.

Is there any law that the mechanic has to report this to me? This is less a restitution seeking question, and more a curiosity question. I know the mechanic was probably trying to avoid telling me since it would sound bad that my car was left unlocked, but honestly, I would have preferred being told upfront.

Left a review on someone’s FaceBook business page and he posted my address online

    Posted: 01 Feb 2018 10:53 AM PST

So, I was driving down the road and this guy comes barreling past everyone and cuts me off and is just driving very irrationally so I left a 1 star review on his page because if you're going to drive your company truck around don't act like an ass in it. He then posts on my comment about never doing work at my my parents house with address and my apartment with address on his public business page. Is there anything I can do about him posting my addresses online?

Also is it legal for me to leave this review even if I never had his sevices? He was in his work truck driving.

Trying to move out and roommate claiming 50% of property in "common area" -- even though she paid for none of it? [Alberta, Canada]

    Posted: 31 Jan 2018 10:25 PM PST

So, I moved into this place with this girl a few months ago. We moved in at the same time, both of our names are on the lease. The place was unfurnished. Within weeks of moving in, I bought a 75" TV (~$3500), and a $1500 sectional. These went into the living room, and we both used them a lot. (Also bought a bunch of furniture for my bedroom but that's not in dispute. I even bought her a new laptop and a smaller TV for her room, but I don't care about those.)

Now, I'm planning on moving out and I want to bring these things with me. I have the receipts. My roommate is claiming that her accountant told her, "Under Alberta law, anything in the common area is communal property" and so she 'owns' 50% of the sectional, and TV, and I have to either leave them or reimburse her half the cost of the items.

This smells like bullshit, and I laughed at her face when she brought it up. She doesn't dispute that I paid for these items, but she claims she has partial ownership under Alberta law anyway. I could not find anything like this in my research. I'm still a little concerned; I'm moving home to Ontario, and I'm going to have a cross-country moving company come pack and ship the items for me. What if she claims I'm not allowed to take these items? If she calls the cops, this seems like a civil dispute, and it seems like they might just enforce the status quo (i.e., keep the items where they are) or otherwise refuse to weigh in. Any advice? Is there a way I can make sure the cops side with me, if they're called? In case it wasn't obvious, my roommate is batshit crazy and that's why I'm leaving.

    Convicted felon seeking advice

    Posted: 01 Feb 2018 09:30 AM PST

Hello all! I am brand new to reddit so I apologize if I do anything incorrectly, I am just desperate for some advice at the moment. This is going to be an extremely long post detailing what led up to my felonies and why I am struggling so badly right now.

I am a 23 year old woman living in central Alabama. In 2014 (when I was 19) I was living in Kansas and was convicted of two counts of reckless aggravated battery. Sounds like I beat this shit out of someone, right? It's actually quite a story.

At the time I was very emotionally unstable and due to a lot of things falling apart in my personal life I became suicidal. I had a manic episode (had no idea I was bipolar back then) and got in my car got on a highway and purposefully ran my car head on into an oncoming truck at 90+ mph. Sounds insane and it makes me cringe thinking about it still, but when you're having a mental breakdown you're not thinking straight. I didn't think about the possibility of hurting someone else because all my brain could focus on was my overwhelming need to die.

Luckily no one but myself was hurt (scrapes, bruises, broken foot). Of course when the paramedics came I was in a state of shock and utter distress screaming about how it didn't work and telling them to just please kill me. I was 19 and having a mental breakdown but of course when I went to court they used this as a confession to a crime instead of a plea for help. I spent two weeks in a psych ward where I was diagnosed with major depressive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, borderline personality disorder, and bipolar disorder.

I was kicked out of my house and living in a halfway home throughout the court process which ended with me being convicted of the two felonies in December 2014. I was given 18 months probation and large amount of restitution. I served my probation (done May 2016) and paid the fines.

All of this is in the past, but I am now 23 and mentally stable. I'm working as an assistant manager at a fast food restaurant because that is the only line of work I could find with a record. I've been told by my therapist that I should have never been convicted of these crimes because my case should have gone to mental health court. I was 19 when this all happened, my family disowned me and I had no one looking for me and my best interests so I went through criminal court instead.

I want to get my felonies expunged but was told that I cannot get them off of my record until 2021 and that it will cost approximately $10k. I am working overtime at a fast food joint driving myself absolutely insane because I know that I could be doing something so much more productive with my life. I don't want to keep fiddling my thumbs and saving money for three more years before I can actually try to do something with my life that doesn't make me miserable.

In short, I am really hoping someone out there knows what the hell I can do to get my felonies expunged early or anything along those lines. I honestly don't even know where to start. Any advice at all would be amazing, even if it's just advice on how to stay sane at this point. I've been battling depression for years now and my bipolar has been flaring it's ugly head recently as well.

Thank you guys for taking the time to read this!

[GA, US] Worked for a startup, never signed any ownership or employment agreement, now laid off with sale potentially imminent -- Do I have claim to my IP?

    Posted: 01 Feb 2018 08:17 AM PST

I've worked for a startup for the last few months. I was one of four employees, there are two members on the board. During my interview, we agreed on a payment amount per month, and on an amount of equity that I would receive in the company. As this was my first experience working at a startup, we did not (or I do not remember discussing) a vesting schedule, although I was told my ownership would vest immediately if we were to be sold. Nothing was ever in writing, not during this meeting, and not after this meeting. I had qualms about this, but I was told by the CEO and CTO that the reason it wasn't in writing was for us to "stay agile during the founders round, so that if any investors come in we don't have to dilute our shares." -- The only thing I ever signed from them was an NDA during the interview. I was also enticed by their agreement that, should we be acquired, I would be part of the team and in the acquiring agreement.

I've been paid monthly, via a handwritten check for each month's work. Not that it matters, but I've been putting in 70+ hour weeks for months straight, trying my hardest to help the project succeed, as I believed that I was part of the team. With my background I was filling a gap in their expertise, they were having to contract out the work at a high hourly rate before I joined.

Anyway, yesterday I was brought into a discussion with the CEO and the two members of the board. The first discussion regarded what I believed my vesting schedule was. Now, for some reason I had thought someone had told me 0.25% per month, which I realize is extremely accelerated, but I know I was told it at some point. I do not believe it was ever made clear during the hiring interview. They expressed concern at my belief, which is fair, and then informed me that it was intended to be 0.25% per 6 months. I felt I had no choice but to agree, at which point they informed me that as of this month they are out of funding and I would be let go immediately, and be able to walk away with 0.5% ownership.

Although I guess a heads up isn't required, I expected a week or two of courtesy to start getting my resume out. What I suspect is that, as I had just completed the next round of hardware design and firmware development was at a stable point, they no longer had a need for me, I was never considered part of the "core team" and I was never to be included in any acquirement.

What concerns me is that, although we have both a mergers and acquisitions attorney and patent attorney who work for the company in return for equity, getting everything in writing was never a concern until this week. I was told yesterday that both lawyers are coming in today to get everything in writing, which seems to indicate that something is afoot. If the company was simply "out of money" then, why would it matter now?

I don't know what I can/want to negotiate for, but if there's some sale eminent next week, I want to make sure that I wasn't pushed out for a better deal for everyone else but me.

My question is, do I have any grounds to negotiate on the fact that I never signed anything? What ownership do I have of the IP I developed in the last few months? Is there some inherent agreement that I entered legally when they paid me a check and I came to an office every day? I've tried to Google this and all I can find seems to be literature that says that IP transfer usually relies on a written agreement between the employee and the employer. -- All of the work was done on my personal laptop, using either personal or open-source software, using my own equipment. Really the only thing I used of the company's was some soldering equipment.

Thanks for any advice, I appreciate it!

Apartment Complex maintenance left balcony Door open during subfreezing temperatures, now I have a big heating bill before I even moved in.

    Posted: 01 Feb 2018 09:30 AM PST

Long story short, to get apartment my wife liked- we started paying rent on an apartment ~12/27, but did not move into Apartment until Jan 15th. I didn't have keys for the apartment until Jan 12. Whoever was doing maintenance in the apartment left the door open and now I have a power bill of $106.00 for the dates of 12/27-1/08.

To repeat, we didn't have keys during this time period, nor had we moved in, this was heating an apartment where they left the back door ajar.

The Apartment building just said they would not reimburse because our lease had started on that date, even though we weren't even in the city.

My SO's(M30) baby's mother(F25) intentionally rammed into my(F26) car with here during a drop off of their child

    Posted: 01 Feb 2018 10:16 AM PST

My boyfriend and I headed to a neutral location to drop off his son to his sons mother. He walked the baby in his carseat to her car and she proceeded to threaten him with kitchen knives and then got in her car and front ended me face on, just in time for my SO to jump in my car.

She got out of her car and he got out of mine telling her to stop and she took her knives, stabbed my tire and started jabbing at him, have that he was able to dodge though. I got out of the car with a hammer and hit her windshield with it.

We all got back in our cars and then she scraped the side of my car, turns around and rear ends me twice to the point of totalling her own car! Police came and we both told our stories. She said she "just wanted to scare us". She's facing multiple charges and I have to go to court tomorrow to testify.. Is it in my best interest to tell the court that I hit her windshield? Can I sue her for emotional distress due to this obvious threat to my life?

There was a crash, and my work laptop got smashed. Employer and insurance can't agree about who forks over the cash.

    Posted: 01 Feb 2018 05:19 AM PST

    Location is [TX]

I got in a car accident. My car got totalled, and my work-issued laptop was destroyed. The laptop belongs to my employer, but I was expected to take it home so I could work from home if necessary.

Insurance says they're not including it in the settlement with my car because it wasn't my laptop. My employer says it does need to be paid for, which is reasonable.

It's a $2500 laptop, and I don't really have the money to pay for it. Is insurance supposed to compensate me for the cost of the destroyed laptop, even though it's not mine?

EDIT: Sorry for the confusion, it's the other driver's insurance.

Colorado - landlord is breaking the lease because she wants to sell the house. I’ve moved out and now she’s contacted me, saying she’s going to evict me and put it on my credit line. PLEASE HELP

    Posted: 01 Feb 2018 11:35 AM PST

Here's the story: I moved into a place with two other girls, one of which is the landlord's daughter. We had signed a lease together that is through August 1, 2018. My roommate, the landlord's daughter, is flunking college and has to move back home. So now the landlord wants to sell the house by June 1st and wants us all out by the end of April. I had never signed a new agreement to stay until April.

So, my dad gave me some shit advice and told me the landlord is breaking the contract by selling before the lease ends, therefore I am not obligated to stay 'til it's convenient for her because I had not signed a new agreement. I have proof via text message of the landlord stating she has intent to sell the house by June. Is she breaking the contract?

I moved out a couple days ago because I trusted my dad and the situation at the house was very volatile and uncomfortable with the other roommate. Now the landlord has contacted me saying I'm wrong, she never broke the contract, her stating she wanted to sell the house was merely a discussion, and she's going to put me through the eviction process and put it onto my credit line. Can I fight this? Again, is SHE breaking the contract? She has my security deposit and pet deposit which will cover two months worth of rent. Should I just pay February rent and tell her she can kiss my ass and use my deposit money to cover March and April rent? What can I do?

Thank you for reading, I appreciate any advice!

[Virginia] Girlfriend's license suspended due to clerical error, now her driving record says "*** ATTENTION: PREVIOUS DRIVING WITHOUT LICENSE ***" despite the charge being amended.

    Posted: 01 Feb 2018 12:04 PM PST

Girlfriend was pulled over for speeding, cop also charged her with driving on a suspended license. After talking with DMV, they realized it had been suspended due to clerical error and the charge was amended to driving without her license on her (which is still bullshit but whatever). However, now here driving record says "*** ATTENTION: PREVIOUS DRIVING WITHOUT LICENSE ***" real big at the top, despite that not being the case. Would anyone know if this is something that can be fixed (and how), or if she is just stuck with it?

Ex wiped out my saving account after 4 years, has no idea they still had access. What can I do?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2018 09:40 PM PST

It says it's transferred to a random account. I panic and call Wells Fargo. They told me that my ex had insufficient funds and they closed his account, and took the rest from mine. I haven't spoken to this person in a year, and when I went to the branch, they told me he no longer had access to my account. I am furious. Of course now when I am trying to contact him he isn't answering. What can I do?

Landlord has cameras (with audio) placed feet from my front door, pointed at my porch and can see in. Is this legal?

    Posted: 01 Feb 2018 01:44 PM PST

I recently moved into a rental house with my boyfriend. The landlords house is next door, just a few feet away. The first night here, I noticed 2 cameras mounted on his house, both facing my front porch, front door and an open front window. I know this type of camera has audio, because it's the same kind that is used at my workplace. The camera is literally 2-3 feet from my front door and viewing my porch, which would be quite private, if not for the camera. When I open my front door, the camera can see into most of my unit. I know that it's legal for people to record public places and common areas, but this seems a bit much to me. Also, upon moving in, we've been here for 2.5 weeks, and he's found excuses to come into our place 3 times already. One time he implied he'd be over for dinner at our house a few times a week before we know it. I feel a little invaded. Is it legal? I'm in Medford Oregon

OHIO - Was awake, aware, and in pain during surgery. Should I hire a medical malpractice attorney?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2018 04:37 PM PST

First, some background. I have a rare genetic disorder called Ehlers Danlos Syndrome. It's a connective tissue disorder which effects my joints, eyes, skin, digestive system, and how medication affects me. For most medications, I have to take a much smaller dosage, except anesthesia. With anesthesia, I require more than the recommended dosage and it often takes longer to take effect.

I've had 17 surgeries and I always make sure the anesthesiologist knows about my EDS and my reactions to anesthesiology. There's been a few times when I've been awake and aware during surgery and told the anesthesiologist and they've quickly remedied the situation.

Because of my EDS, I developed subcapsular cataracts in both eyes. I'm 46 and just had my second cataract surgery. My first one was in 2015 and was a breeze. My doctor was well versed in how to handle my condition. Other than feeling the needle for the retrobulbar block, I remember nothing from that surgery.

In October of 2016, my vision in my right eye became cloudy and I knew it was time to get my cataract removed. I called the original doctor who did my first surgery, only to be told that he had retired and the new doctor didn't take my insurance. They suggested I call my insurance for a referral, who referred me to a local cataract surgeon.

I went for my consult, explained Ehlers Danlos Syndrome to him. He told me that he was familiar with EDS and that he would make sure I was comfortable. I told him about my experience with the retrobulbar block and he told me that he didn't feel that it would be necessary, that he'd use lidocaine drops and twilight me. I told him that I was very resistant to lidocaine and usually required 5-6 times the usual dosage. He said he was confident that they could keep me comfortable. They scheduled me for surgery the 27th of December.

When I arrived at the surgery center, they took me back to the preop area. I met with the nurse, who went over everything, including my EDS. I then met with the anesthesiologist and the nurse anesthetist. We went over the procedure and my EDS. I explained to them my reaction to anesthesia and how much lidocaine I usually need when getting dental work. They both said they were confident they could keep me comfortable. The anesthesiologist said he'd have things ready to completely put me under, but felt that wouldn't be necessary. We discussed the meds he'd be using (lidocaine drops and ketamine) and asked if I'd had any adverse reactions to either of them, other than needing a higher dosage. After that, they took me into the operating room.

While they were prepping me, the nurse anesthetist asked me how I was feeling. I told her a little on edge, so she said she'd give me something to relax me. She pushed something in my IV and I waited... and waited... and waited... nothing. As they were draping my face, I told them that I still was on edge and she said that they were getting ready to give me the anesthesia and that I'd soon be "very very relaxed". I felt the burn of the anesthesia going in, but I didn't relax, I didn't feel any different. The doctor came in and I told him I was still awake and aware. He told me that I might feel that way, but that I wouldn't remember a thing. He then started surgery. It was excruciating. I kept telling them over and over that I wasn't comfortable. The anesthesiologist kept pushing drugs, even propofol. In spite of my pleading for him to stop and get me comfortable, the doctor continued. By the end of the surgery I was sobbing. When I was to my breaking point, the doctor said "One more minute and you'll be done. I'm putting in the lens." At that moment, I felt as if someone was shoving a fork in my eye and then pulling my eye out of my head. I must have passed out for a few minutes because the next thing I remember is being wheeled into recovery.

As soon as they got me into recovery, the room filled up quickly. The director of the surgery center, the nurse anesthetist, the anesthesiologist, and several other people were in the room. (But not my doctor). The director of the surgery center was profusely apologizing with a print off from the internet in her hand about Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, telling me that they'd use this as an educational experience and how that my case would be up for review. The anesthesiologist and nurse anesthetist were in there going over the amount of meds they gave me and how they tried to get my comfortable. I asked why they didn't just stop and get me comfortable or knock me out. The anesthesiologist said that the doctor wouldn't stop and allow them to get me comfortable. At that point, my doctor popped his head in and said he'd see me the following day for my follow up. I was sobbing at this point and I asked him why he didn't stop and allow the anesthesiologist to get me comfortable. He said that it was because the globe of my eye was open and it would have been dangerous to leave it open. He acted surprised that I was so upset. I think he honestly thought I would forget what he'd done. The surgery center director apologized again and they sent me home. On the way home, the drugs all finally kicked in and I slept most of the rest of the day.

The following day, my daughter (who is pre-med) took me to my appointment. I was a nervous wreck on the way there, in the waiting room, and in the office. His nurse took care of most of my visit, other than the doctor peeking his head in. I tried to ask him about the surgery, but he was out the door. I scheduled for my two week follow up and left.

The morning of my two week follow up, the office called and said that the doctor wouldn't be in and rescheduled it for a week later. At that appointment, the same thing happened, the nurse took care of me and he popped his head in and talked to her and told her to reschedule me in two more weeks.

That appointment was supposed to be today. This morning the office called and rescheduled me for February 16th. I don't know if I will be going to that appointment.

Every night since surgery, I've had horrible dreams, replaying the surgery. Even when the dreams aren't about the surgery, I have nightmares about someone ripping my eye out of my head with a fork. I'm sleeping less and less, waking up in the middle of the night in a panic. I've also started having panic attacks at random times during the day. I've scheduled an appointment with my general practitioner to discuss what happened and to possibly get medication for my panic attacks and to help me sleep.

Sorry this ended up so long, but any advice would be appreciated.
