Anyone here with a CPCU or in the process of obtaining it? Posted: 24 Feb 2018 08:01 PM PST I'm considering getting a CPCU designation, a class or two at a time. I work full time as a bodily injury adjuster, which obviously is very busy so it may be challenging to do both at once. I guess I'm just looking for any insight or advice people can provide on obtaining it or the value of getting it. Or maybe a little motivation to begin the process. If you have it, how valuable has it been? And how hard was it to get while working? Any advice or insight into the designation and the door it's opened for you are welcome. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Feb 2018 05:18 PM PST I have united health care choice plus for my insurance. Anyways my wife went into labor at home and within 20 minutes of experiencing first symptoms she couldn't get herself in the vehicle and was experiencing contractions 30 seconds apart. I had to call 911 for an ambulance. We have two emergency rooms near by. One is 0.9 miles and the other is 2.0 miles. The hospital we were delivering at is the 2.0 mile away location and the drivers did not ask me so I had told them I would meet them at the hospital we were checked in at and where her obgyn would be at as well. 15 minutes later the baby was delivered in the ER. I just checked my insurance claims and it shows nothing paid by insurance and is $2516 but still says pending. (Only been 2 days) Does anyone have experience with United and ambulance rides? From what I can find it says they won't cover ambulance rides to a preferred location unless it's the closest. I wouldn't consider the location I told them a preferred as compared to medically necessary since they knew we were coming in already and had a room ready etc but you know insurance will probably be insurance here in the states. I'm just looking for anyone that has experience in this field who maybe knows what to expect for billing/coverage or if I'm going to get screwed. The ambulance was AMR company. [link] [comments] |
Rental cars and MasterRental credit card insurance Posted: 24 Feb 2018 03:37 PM PST My car is a big ol' piece of junk and is only good for putzing around town, so I'm renting a car next week to visit some friends a few hours away. Because of my car's condition, I don't currently carry comprehensive or collision coverage. For peace of mind, I always get the damage waiver at the rental place, but it nearly doubles the price of the rental. I'm considering changing my insurance policy to cover these two things, since a month of increased coverage is about as expensive as the damage waiver for just one weekend. My issue with that is, I don't feel like carrying this coverage long-term and am not sure whether it's that simple to change your coverage back after a month or two (if anyone has input on that topic feel free to chime in -- I have Geico). I rent on my Mastercard and am aware of the MasterRental benefit but I've always felt uncomfortable relying on it. Here are the relevant details from the pamphlet:
So my question is: does the MasterRental work as an effective substitute for comprehensive and collision, and if not, why?. There are some exclusions but I read over them carefully and don't forsee any of them applying (theft due to losing keys, drunk driving, unpaved roads, etc). Seems pretty cut and dry - any physical damage to the car that my insurance doesn't cover, they will, up to $50K, including reimbursing me for my deductible - but if I'm wrong about any of this I'd like to know about it. (Also, alternatively, could I increase my coverage and just get a really high deductible since they'll cover it?). Thanks everyone! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Feb 2018 12:58 PM PST New homeowner, first time dealing with this. Top unit in my building, after a ton of rain I came home and my hardwood floor was warped and separating near my exposed brick wall. No standing water so it was all underneath the hardwood floors. I have absolutely no idea where it's coming from, we just had tuckpointing done recently outside and my brick isn't wet on the inside. I called the HOA insurance and they told me to get an estimate of the work/damage and they'll send an adjuster out when I file a claim. The problem is, the wall is the HOA's property, but the windows are mine as a limited common element. I haven't contacted my insurance yet, because I would prefer the HOA's insurance cover it and don't want my rates to go up. However, my insurance wants to know immediately of damage, so I don't want the HOA insurance adjuster to come out and say that they believe it was the window that caused the damage and now I have to use my own insurance. My insurance also obviously wants work done immediately and they'll send an adjuster out after. I have a guy coming out tomorrow to look at it (maybe start work?). Do I just let him do his thing and then file a claim with the HOA's insurance and they pay me back? Keep my insurance out of the loop until I need to? Thanks for your help. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Feb 2018 12:49 PM PST When I was hired I was told my insurance would kick in after 90 days, which would have been Feb 1st. But I've been covered under my father's plan since forever so I didn't think anything of it. I wanted to go see the doctor about a few things on January 4th, told them I was still using UHC (As I've been using the past 10+ years), paid the co-pay and all seemed good. I then went to the eye doctor later that month (Jan 28th-ish) and one of the routine tests they did on me caused me to faint, hit my head on either the floor or a table and went to the ER to get checked out. Asked my dad to drive me and he asked me if my work insurance kicked in yet, which I was under the impression hadn't, and was told he took me off his plan in December. I was thinking about canceling the visit despite feeling sick, but ultimately went. I called my supervisor to see if she had any info on my insurance and she told me to call ERS, but they were no help, so I called Blue Cross directly and they told me my benefits were active on Jan 1st, and emailed me a temporary card and sent a physical card to me. Now today, Feb 24th I get a letter from the doctor I visited Jan 4th saying medical services were performed outside of my network and was paid at a rate below the amount billed, and want me to pay $200. and they've added a $5 fee because I've never arranged a payment plan with them, despite never knowing about this bill until 30 minutes ago So I guess I want to know is can I ask the doctors office to run this bill through my insurance, or should I call my insurance directly to see if they can work something out before the doctors? Or am I fucked and need to pay this off? [link] [comments] |
Turned 26, using vision insurance before end of month? Posted: 24 Feb 2018 09:35 AM PST I turned 26 in February. I confirmed with my Vision insurance that I won't get kicked off my parents plan until the end of this month. A few weeks ago, I also enrolled in my companies vision insurance (in preparation for getting kicked off my parents). So I have two vision plans for the next few days. I'm going to get some new glasses today. Is there any issue with using my parents plan since I'm going to get kicked off it in a few days anyways? Figured I would use it to get some new glasses since I haven't in the last few years. [link] [comments] |
New 17 year old driver looking for advice on car titles Posted: 24 Feb 2018 06:16 PM PST Hey everyone,
My situation: I'm a 17 year old high school student in Illinois who has a working car, a license, and no insurance. There is a 1997 Mazda Miata in our garage whose title is currently in my dad's name. He has not driven it for many years, and is willing to transfer the title over to me. I am unable to join my parents insurance plan: they have a plan that requires all drivers to be 18 or older, and I will not be 18 for five more months.
My questions: Should my dad transfer the car title to my name? What are the pros/cons of both? Will there be opportunities for cheaper insurance if he instead insures the car in his name with me listed as a driver? If he does keep the title in his name, what are the legal consequences for him if I get into an accident and the other party sues? If he transfers the title and insures the car under my name, what are the legal consequences for me if the other party sues? I'll provide additional information about my situation if it would be useful.

Posted: 24 Feb 2018 04:05 PM PST So my girlfriends car recently died and for the time being she won't be driving except for the off chance her mother lends her her vehicle to get to work. My question is, can my girlfriend cancel her insurance to help save money to buy a new car in the meantime? Her mother has insurance on the vehicle that would be driven. Also, we live in Rhode Island if that makes a difference. tl:dr - If I have a license and a registered vehicle in R.I. but am only driving someone else's vehicle(insured) can I cancel my insurance? Turning 26 in May, I need new health insurance Connecticut Posted: 24 Feb 2018 12:29 PM PST Hello all, so I have been under my father's health insurance (Anthem BCBS) through the state of Connecticut (he is an employee of the state) I have been really depressed and anxious lately so I have slacked off on figuring out what to do about my insurance. I am taking a few medications that I need to be taking indefinitely or I will literally die. So it is of the up most importance I figure this out. My life literally depends on it. For context I work from home as an independent contractor. So I have 0 medical coverage from work and I will have to find a private plan. I make more than 30,000 a year before taxes so I don't think I will qualify for government insurance. Nor do I think having that insurance is a good idea, I have seen people have horrible experiences time and time again. (Not having doctors in the area that take the insurance, being discriminated against because of the insurance, getting lackluster care in general because of the insurance.) So my questions are as follows:

Posted: 24 Feb 2018 08:49 AM PST Hello my boyfriend was on his way home from work two nights ago when another driver slammed right into his truck. The police was called and the other driver who's at fault was issued a ticket. Both my boyfriend and the other driver have Progressive and my boyfriend called them to let know of the accident but they are telling him that he have a deductible. I thought if you weren't at fault that the other persons policy would pay for the damages, so why would he need to make pay a deductible? Would they pay for rental as well since his truck would need to be in the shop? I'm very lost and looking for suggestions. Thanks in advance, TNesha [link] [comments] |
95 Prelude cheaper than an 03 corolla? can someone explain? Posted: 24 Feb 2018 07:28 AM PST I don't have a very good record and im 21 so keep that in mind while reading these prices. I have a 95 Honda Prelude as a daily driver and got into an accident that really would have totaled my car but i only have liability and cant afford any more claims. so my brother GAVE me his 03 Corolla LE and said if i can fix it i can have it. so i fixed it and got it quoted from Insurance. heres how it was: 95 Prelude currently a $579 a month 03 Corolla LE got priced at 631$ a month Why is it so much more expensive for a car that isn't even a luxury or sports car as compared to my 95 prelude that's considered a sports car? MY driving record is gonna have stuff start dropping off this year in December (which was my biggest accident where i didnt hit anyone but i went offroad, totalled my 08 mazda 6, and had medical bills cause my friend had a broken foot. really bad accident) [link] [comments] |
Question about Insurance Fraud? Posted: 23 Feb 2018 10:25 PM PST So if someone was selling insurance and placed an "Accident Prevention Safety Course" discount on there for an auto policy, and told the insured - Example: (not real) "So without the defensive driving course your price is $600 a month. If you take the defensive driving course within the next 2 days I can apply the discount saving you about $60 per month." "Do you realize i will NEED you to take the defensive driving course within 2 days or else the discount will fall off?" Insured getting policy - "yes I do and I'll take the course and send you the proof" If the insured agrees and says on a recorded line that they'll take the course, is that legally in the "okay"? Or is that insurance fraud by the agent for placing a discount that was never intended to be rewarded? [link] [comments] |
First car insurance (adult, VA) Posted: 23 Feb 2018 09:30 PM PST I was checking car insurances from major providers (Geico, Allstate, Progressive) and their quotes are too high for me - they all want $170-$200/monthly. Is there a better provider for inexperienced drivers? I'm in my late 20s and never held a driver license before. [link] [comments] |
