2nd day of VITA, already got bitched at Posted: 09 Feb 2018 01:09 PM PST lady comes in and tells me how she has an interview in an hour and a half and that she'd have to leave soon because appearently it was my fault that she had to wait 40 mins since we were down some preparers. She also needed to go back home to get dressed then drive to another town where the interview is. I didn't have enough time to finish, especially when it takes some time to get the busy coordinator to review the forms. Lol why do people bitch as if it's a college volunteers fault? It's unreal, bitching while I was plugging in her shit, as if I'm in charge. Don't they know we're volunteers? [link] [comments]
Staff I , am I going to be fired? Posted: 09 Feb 2018 06:53 AM PST I saw my OMP at a grocery store near the office yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn't want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything. He said, "Oh, like you're doing now?" I was taken aback, and all I could say was "Huh?" but he kept cutting me off and going "huh? huh? huh?" and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen golf balls in his hands without paying. The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like "Sir, you need to pay for those first." At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter. When she took one of the balls and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually "to prevent any electrical interference," and then turned around and winked at me. I don't even think that's a word. After she scanned each ball and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly. Anyways am I on the shit list? Posted: 09 Feb 2018 04:11 PM PST I am so confused how CPA marked for core 2. I did pretty good on MCQs, and got RC on the case writing and they failed me. I am planning to challenge the exam in the following term. Any advice on how to study/prepare the case would much appreciated. [link] [comments]
Your Opinion to help settle a disagreement Posted: 09 Feb 2018 04:05 PM PST When someone tells you they, "Used H&R Block", what does that tell you, what does it imply, what were the physical actions undertaken. Thank you. [link] [comments]
If I want to possibly open up my own practice one day, should I go for Audit or Tax in B4? Posted: 09 Feb 2018 07:31 PM PST I am considering opening up my own accountinf practice some time down the line. What would be better for me: Audit or Tax? Audit has better openings at F500s but if u do tax then u could open up ur own tax practice. I am more interested in doing financial work like bookkeeping and payroll and maybe a little bit of tax in my practice. Any advice is greatly appreciated. [link] [comments]
ACCT vs MIS vs Computer Science Posted: 09 Feb 2018 02:10 PM PST Hello, I have really been reconsidering my current major of accounting recently. I enjoy accounting and I'm pretty good at it but I can't see myself doing month end closing and reconciliations for the rest of my life. Although, I like the business school and the atmosphere of business in general. I have always been interested in computers and technology so I strongly considered making the switch to Computer and Information Science. I've been self learning some very basic programming and really enjoy it. Then that brought me to Management Information Systems which I never really knew what that was. I found out that it basically is a business degree with a focus on computer science. It seemed like the perfect option. I've been doing a ton of research on the differences and it seems like MIS is looked at as not as good as a degree as comp sci, but I could always minor in comp sci with a major in MIS. Thanks for your help! [link] [comments]
Posted: 09 Feb 2018 08:51 AM PST I turned down an offer from a F400 (is that a thing?) because it's in Debt/Equity Accounting and it's in my state I currently live in, and I'm planning on moving after this busy season. Am I an idiot? I'm certain the offer would've been at least 20% more than I'm making now. On another note, we're almost halfway through busy season. How's everyone holding up to this point? EDIT: A top 20 firm that's in my destination state wants to move forward with me for a face-to-face interview. After speaking with a recruiter they let me know that salary-wise, I'd see an increase in wage, but it's at the minimum of my desired range and near the max of what that firm would pay. Posted: 09 Feb 2018 03:55 PM PST Looooooong story short. I couldn't secure financial aid at this college as they fucked themselves over during a strike and TLDR they're in a big mess at the moment.... These are the sites of the courses that I was planning on taking. I would like to find material such as this somewhere online where I can follow up on courses and quizzes and exercises etc. I've been away from my university from my degree for over 3 years and I gotta review the material again before diving back into accounting courses! Any help would be so super greatly appreciated please and thanks! http://ccol.algonquincollege.com/acc2354/ http://ccol.algonquincollege.com/acc2234f16/ [link] [comments]

Canadian CPA - Taking REG to get US CPA License Posted: 09 Feb 2018 09:37 PM PST Hi There, I am a Canadian CPA looking to obtain my US CPA License (I recently transferred to the US.) In order to do so, I have to take the Reg exam. I have been using Becker and have painfully gone through all the videos and multiple choice questions once. I am kind of stuck at this point - what is the next step? Take notes on everything and redo all the MCQs? My exam is in early May and given the long hours at work I am not sure if this is the most feasible approach. Thanks for your help! [link] [comments]
How screwed are you if you go straight into industry out of college? Posted: 09 Feb 2018 05:25 PM PST Excluding F500s, of course. If you go to work for a small-medium sized company in industry out of college, have you committed career suicide? I can't stand living in Iowa for college, and I would be abso-fucking-lutely miserable if I had to stay here for another two years because public is the only way to go. I'm an average student at a state school, senior, 3.28 GPA, VITA, an A/R & A/P internship at a nonprofit, supervisor at a small on-campus store. Shit interview skills. I'll be getting my CPA 100%, no matter which route I take. Please don't tell me that I have to go public, I don't wanna die. [link] [comments]
For someone whose goal is to open a tax practice is starting a job in a small or large firm better? Posted: 09 Feb 2018 04:58 PM PST My future goal is to open up my own tax practice, I am currently finishing up my last semester of university and was deciding where to start my entry level position. I was thinking small firms since a tax practice would essentially be that size but large firms have lots of clients and maybe you can develop more experience. For large firms I was thinking more mid size like RSM, BDO, EisnerAmper, etc. I am not really into B4 that much. Anyone have any advice? [link] [comments]
Would anyone be like to do an interview for my college accounting class? Posted: 09 Feb 2018 02:43 PM PST As the title says, I need to interview an accountant. I find it a little bit audacious my professor wants us to get an interview in accountant's busiest season! The description of the assignment is as follows, "Team up with a class peer to examine a company's or individual's accounting practices and procedures. Your paper will answer the question: What is a typical workday like in the life of this accountant? You will need to interview an accountant, conduct research online or in journals or books, and express your findings and conclusions. Please submit at least 3 pages of content, double-spaced, comparable to 12-point Times font, and use at least 2 different references, including your accountant. If this isn't worth your time hopefully we can come to an agreement where i can compensate you for your time. I need this done as soon as possible because i'm a lazy fuck and always wait for the last minute. If typing is too much i can throw in my phone number too. cheers! [link] [comments]

Has anyone had significant career growth or opportunity for certifications other than CPA? Posted: 09 Feb 2018 11:43 AM PST Ultimately, it's pretty much accepted that the CPA is the "gold standard" of certifications and the greatest resume builder other than significant work experience. Additionally, I'm sure everyone has heard some kind of marketing tactic for the huge demand for insert other certification here. I was just wondering if anyone has any experience with any certifications other than CPA, that they felt really affected their career positively? In my experience, CISA has been a common replacement for CPA for IT audit positions, but other than that the certifications have just been bragging tools. EDIT: I guess I worded the question wrongly, but I wasn't intending to imply that certifications were necessary. I was just asking what certifications people felt added value in their career other than CPA. [link] [comments]
Unfairly brought up on a complaint Posted: 09 Feb 2018 08:15 PM PST Hey fans it me. Got an email complaint saying I spilt my Burger King cup in the lunch room and didn't clean it up. I told HR that people were just hating bro, but she litaly got mad and told me to stop calling her bro. But I didn't even go to Burger King it was that stupid interns Burger King cup. Feels cold. Posted: 09 Feb 2018 08:10 PM PST I've recently gotten a job at a CPA firm and they use SurePrep. But tbh, it feels like I'm taking two steps instead of one, and the verification process takes longer than just entering it in myself. Does anyone else have experience with this software? I would love to hear opinions from people with more experience than me. [link] [comments]
What Drinks Do You Have At Your Office? Posted: 09 Feb 2018 10:23 AM PST What drinks do you have in your office kitchen? Feeling like a pleb because all we have is Flavia coffee, water, and traditional sodas :/ [link] [comments]
Irrationally upset over a light? Posted: 09 Feb 2018 07:59 PM PST So the light next to me at work was flickering. A) It's annoying to everyone around it. B) I'm epileptic. I figure okay, tell the people who take care of that stuff, surely they will understand and help me out. They say they are aware and can't do anything about it, it's a vendor issue. They are not able to just unscrew a bulb or anything because wiring. Well, that's cool and all. What can we do now while we wait for the vendor? I can NOT be around flashing lights. The solution? They will put electrical tape on it. Whatever, you do you, just make it stop. So, I book a conference room and relocate. The whole day goes by and no one came to tape up the light for me. They did tape it up in the morning when I got in. I talk to our admin assistant for advice on what I should do if it happens again and she was not happy about the delay, nor the fact that they taped over it. She pushed the issue up and not 30 mins later GUESS WHO CAME TO UNSCREW THE GODDAMN LIGHT BULB. They lied to me guys. I told them I have a medical issue and they lied to me. I sent a novel to HR about my experience and how pissed I was that they brushed me off. As I left, the admin told me to come to her first about anything like that. "Its all about who you know." Why though? It shouldn't be that way. You can't mess around with disabilities and health in general. I know this isn't about accounting. With the stress of busy season and FAR creeping up on me in a couple weeks, everything is accounting in my life. Huge stressors, lack of sleep, and flashing lights are a no-go for Boe. /endrant I'm now going to look into how to get more involved with raising awareness in my office about disabilities... After the CPA exam, of course. Tips? [link] [comments] |
