What are some of your hobbies? Posted: 27 Feb 2018 09:24 PM PST What are some of your hobbies you like to do outside of work? Do any of you have a non accounting side business? What do you do to relax? [link] [comments]
Posted: 27 Feb 2018 07:10 PM PST I have been given a project where I am to reach out to operations about a charity program an office runs and pretend that I am learning about the program so I can recommend process improvements. The program has separate bank accounts and is run outside of the accounting team. The truth is, I am actually going in to investigate the program for any fraud as we have heard the record keeping isn't exactly great. At this point we don't know much about the program. I will have to befriend the people from operations that I have never dealt with (I deal with other business lines), convince them that I am only doing this as a means of improving efficiencies and not let them suspect that I have other motives. I have never worked in forensic accounting or even in public accounting. Do you guys have any universal tips that may come in handy? [link] [comments]
Audits of Publicly Traded Companies Posted: 27 Feb 2018 06:37 PM PST I am considering trying to leave the firm that I work at to work for a larger one that does audit of publicly traded companies. Right now I only audit nonprofits and non-public for profit companies. I have several years of experience and will soon have my CPA. How have you guys gone about switching firms and do you like the knowledge you've learned from auditing a publicly traded company? [link] [comments]

Those in government, how long after interview did it take before you got the offer Posted: 27 Feb 2018 12:44 PM PST And do you work in state or federal? Had an interview at the state level two weeks ago today and the guy said he hoped to make a selection 'within two weeks' so i don't know to think because i did well in the interview. HR said they haven't been told of a hiring decision as of yesterday. [link] [comments]

Posted: 27 Feb 2018 06:22 PM PST Is it really worth going through all this blaw? I've read mixed things on this sub about how much blaw is on the exam? Also, any other tips for me as this will be my first exam ever? [link] [comments]
Unfunded reserves in public accounting (Canada) Posted: 27 Feb 2018 09:19 PM PST Hi, just looking for a quick explanation as to the purpose of unfunded reserves, i.e., why would a municipality make an allocation for a reserve for say equipment, but not fund it with cash? [link] [comments]
Big 4, how to Improve acting and being weird? Posted: 27 Feb 2018 03:14 PM PST I am a very weird, shy and introverted guy, the details that make me weird/introverted are irrelevant. I don't know how to behave now, I feel like I've hit a wall after 5 rush seasons, like I used to be borderline autistic before and now I am still almost the same. I've been Senior for 2 rush seasons and I feel like I'll keep beeing Senior 1 forever. I stutter too much, I genuinely speak weird, and I realized the stuttering as an adult. This makes it hard to explain stuff to Staffs under me, or discuss matters with clients, or explain myself. Then I am a certified loony who has been involuntarily sedated (with injections that hurt like a bitch)/tied in a psych ward. All this shit make me think maybe I picked the wrong career, even if I keep being promoted or getting raises Then I am "INTJ", if I think I am right on X nothing will shake that and I actually think I am mostly wrong. I do procedures my way because I've deduced they're efficient in my head. Then a Staff tries doing a WP his/her way and I just waste lots of time trying to accomodate to this way instead of saying "just do it my fucking way, yours is not fucking efficient". Then I am extremely insecure and try to be excessively polite and project a passive and insecure aura and this shit bothers me. I have to restrain myself because I am naturally an asshole. I'd just say staff "just do fucking X my way and it will work, I don't want to waste more time than needed just to be nice". I call everyone older than 30 "Mr./Miss". I call all managers this way too. I have had many managers tell me "stop calling me Mr." [link] [comments]
How hard is it to join the FBI with a bachelor in AC + a CPA? Any info? Posted: 27 Feb 2018 08:04 AM PST I just realized I can't really see myself going through the entirety of my life having just sat in an office wasting away and working on a computer for ridiculously long hours lol ): I feel like this sub let's me see into the life and minds of people currently working in this field and everyone seems to hate it or they're living soley for retirement or to provide for their fam... (not that there's anything wrong with that) But my parents won't let me switch majors again and they're paying for it so idk what I can do... or what I'd even switch to if I could The FBI seems like it could work.. I looked up the requirements and I've never smoked weed yet so I won't be disqualified like most of my peers. What are the biggest hurdles to joining the FBI as a special agent? I looked up the requirements but I figured maybe someone here had a more in depth experience or something? [link] [comments]

How much can you expect to earn if you opened your own CPA firm? Posted: 27 Feb 2018 02:51 PM PST If you did standard tax returns and bookkeeping for high net worth individuals and small businesses, what can you expect to earn if you opened your own CPA firm. I am interested in opening my own firm in the future and am curious of the potential salary. Thanks! [link] [comments]

How well respected is Intuit in the tax world? Posted: 27 Feb 2018 07:38 PM PST I was somehow able to get an internship with them this summer as a tax intern. However I have no idea what kind of exit opportunities they have. Tax analysts with the company are supposed to read all current and upcoming tax law changes. And work with the coders to find a way to put it into their app/software. I'm sure there is a ton of more things they do but that's pretty much what I got from the whole interview process/research. Have any of you guys worked at Intuit before or know anyone that has? This sounds exactly like what I want to do, but i still haven't worked there yet and would like to keep all options open. I know this sub is 90% big 4 or ex big 4 but did you 10%ers work at Intuit? Side note but have any of you guys ever had imposter syndrome in regards to just a simple internship or job? Even though I had time to digest that I actually have this internship and that it's not a joke. I still can't believe I got it and feel like I'm going to fail. [link] [comments]
Posted: 27 Feb 2018 07:23 PM PST So after doing some research about studying for the CPA, it seems like the big learning component comes from the MCQs, possibly more important than the lectures and learning material. And if that's the case, how thoroughly did you study the material? Did you learn it until it was a no brainer or did you just push play, took some notes then hit the nose to the grindstone on the mcqs? [link] [comments] |
