My manager told me to go home at 10 PM, am I going to be fired?

    Posted: 23 Feb 2018 06:50 AM PST

Last night my manager told me to go home at 10 PM. Should I be worried? Should I start brushing up my resume and look for another job?

    I can’t take this anymore- Big 4

    Posted: 23 Feb 2018 08:04 AM PST

This is living hell I hate this so much, I come home back every night at 8 in complete depression and anxiety, this is the equavlient of being a slave in the 21st century. Everybody here has fake ass phony personalities and pretends everything is amazing and alright, only bullshitting themselves. Everyone telling me, oh I should be so thankful for this opportunity!! God bless that you got this position! Hell no, only a brainwashed sheep could love such a role, what a shame to waste your creativity and life in front of spreadsheets and stinkie papers. I think I rather go out in the woods and become a monastic then live this boring drying ass life

Are you regretting every choice and decision that has brought you into an accounting career? Are you freaking out? Have you ever "snapped" and gone off into the deep end? How did it turn out and what changed in your life?

    Posted: 23 Feb 2018 05:58 PM PST

I am seriously regretting every choice I have made that caused me to become an accounting major. But I know, at this point, there is no going back. I have to just push on and work til I die.

FLEX DAY FRIIIIIYAY: PARTY PEOPLE WHERE YOU AT?!

    Posted: 23 Feb 2018 05:40 AM PST

How are you planning to enjoy your #FlexDayFriday?!

I am going to the gym to work out my pecs, maybe do a few bicep curls. Then I am going to assert my dominate and knock out 20 minutes on the treadmill next to the cardio bunnies to show off my extremely ripped and roman god like chesticles.

Then I will go home, throw together a brotein shake with some strawberries, berries and a banana, chug it down in about 2 minutes.

Then, you guessed it....BEACH TIME. Have to get my active cardio in with mandatory shirts off. Suns out, guns out, skies out, thighs out fellas.

Probably stop by Nobu in Malibu and get some bomb ass sushi with my stunner shades. All the bitches be 'mirin.

Finally, I will make it home before traffic, and go through my Rolodex and pick which lucky woman will be lucky enough to be afforded the opportunity to ingest my semen.

    What are your plans?

Seniors & associates - what can managers do to improve your life?

    Posted: 23 Feb 2018 01:07 PM PST

And don't tell me "give me the day off"...stuff that is realistic please.

Background: I've got a top class team on a big job that is fully committed to the cause. I do my best to recognise this by being a cool manager in return but pointers & inspiration would be appreciated anyway.

Should I start my internship if I know I will only be there for 2 months?

    Posted: 23 Feb 2018 06:28 PM PST

I just accepted my internship at a bank starting next Monday. I was very thrilled and was planning to stay there long-term(they said that the position can lead to full-time).

Now my finance took a job in another city and planning to move soon. I am thinking of moving with him in May.

Is it a good idea to just work there for 2 months, or I should tell them the truth? (It's a internal audit position that I really want to know if I would enjoy doing) When should I bring it up if I start my internship anyways?

    Historical CPA Pass Rates

    Posted: 23 Feb 2018 04:27 PM PST

Does anyone know where to find data on historical CPA pass rates? I was just curious because I know it has changed a lot over the years and am wondering if the current pass rates ~50% each exam are similar to ones in the 1950s for example.

Seems like it is nowhere to be found. (In contrast there is data back to 1963 for CFA exam pass rates on Wikipedia).

Should I sit for the CPA exam, or apply for jobs?

    Posted: 23 Feb 2018 12:37 PM PST

Hello Friends! TLDR: Recent grad, no Acc. experience. I have free time and want to get into the field. Should I sit for and pass the exam (I'm eligible) in the hope of being the most qualified entry level applicant, or just focus on any and all opportunities to gain accounting experience?

Long Post: I am a recent Accounting grad, 22 years old, without accounting experience. I have previously worked as a wilderness guide, and in the service industry. My summer work in college was all outdoors focused.

I was bicycling and hit by a car Nov. 29th, and was severely concussed and not working for some time. After being shaken up by that experience, I have decided to try to live a less risky life and use my degree to get into public accounting, preferably tax. I am in Southern California.

I worry that my lack of accounting experience makes me non-competitive as an applicant right now, especially given my lack of accounting networking while in school. I have scheduled my first test (BEC) and am devoting my time to studying, but wonder if my time is better spent trying to network and apply now, before sitting for the test.

Thank you all for your time. Any advice is much appreciated!

Whats the path of an accountant??

    Posted: 23 Feb 2018 06:22 PM PST

So I'm currently majoring in business and I'm taking my first accounting class and I'm kinda digging it. My only thing is I don't know what the different paths I could take in accounting.

My goal if I pursue accounting is to work for a B4. I'm in the socal area so there seems to be a lot of options around here. But after the B4 what can I do after? Is this a chance of earning more money at at or after working at a B4? Living in California 55k just doesn't seem like a whole a lot.

Tips for J&J FLDP case round

    Posted: 23 Feb 2018 09:26 PM PST

Having the case round in around a week's time. Its an FLDP position that is not based in the US, so it's not a "superday" type of round, but what I was told was that there will only be 1 case study exercise spanning 2-3 hours. What kind of topics are normally used for cases in FLDPs? I come from a business/finance background, so I'll admit that my knowledge in accounting is pretty basic as I have only taken a couple of accounting classes in business school. Will case study topics/questions be very technical and heavy on accounting or would they be more qualitative in nature?

Also, would the job scope of FLDP positions be primarily focused on accounting?

Public to Private and back to Public

    Posted: 23 Feb 2018 08:58 PM PST

How many people in here have made the move to industry and then back to public?

I made the move back 6 months ago after spending 2 years in industry and I couldn't be happier.

Do the Big4 firms heavily donate to universities?

    Posted: 23 Feb 2018 11:18 AM PST

A conversation in another thread prompted this question in my mind.

I mean, so far almost all of my accounting professors have promoted the Big4, leaving out all the horrible stuff I know now about them, why do they do this? Why do they plant the seed in every accounting majors head that Big4 is the ultimate goal?

They also have all pushed grad school reaaaaaallly hard. I get this, recruiting for grad school has a direct benefit for them. In fact I've noticed almost every advisor pushes grad school- it's a hustle. But what benefits or incentives do professors have out of pushing the Big4 so hard???

Best I can figure is either A) the big 4 donate A LOT of money to a lot of universities, or B) it helps the schools rep to say they are recruited by big 4, so in turn they push to deliver many naive, baby faced applicants.

    FAR Exam: blanks or 0's?

    Posted: 23 Feb 2018 05:49 PM PST

I took FAR this week and on my last teslet the first SIM said to use 0's for cells that didn't require adjustments and the second SIM said to use blanks, but then my third didn't specify so I wasn't sure what to do. I ended up putting 0's.

What's the general consensus to do on the CPA exam if not otherwise specified? Obviously it's too late to do anything about FAR if I should have left them blank but I'd like to know for my next exams.
