Posted: 25 Jan 2018 09:00 AM PST This sub is a great resource for finding new stocks and allowing a fair debate over each company's merits that are brought up. Without this stock I never would have learned about SHOP, which has gained about 34% for me thus far. This place just seems more accessible than places like StockTwits, etc. and it's helped me a lot over the last year. Thank you all and happy investing. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Jan 2018 11:37 PM PST Used to day trade a lot in 2017 and in December I bought 3200 shares of lfin at $16.74. I sold it 10-20 minutes later at $17.40 for around a $2000 profit early in the day. Walked away feeling happy. Within the next day this song shoots up to $75 and is something I have never seen in stocks before. If I sold at the peak it would have been at $240k. However this is just so unreal and mind boggling that I don't even beat myself up over it. It's just silly. In reality even if I held, there is no way I would have held on to it onto the next day for the REAL spike. [link] [comments] |
What are your favorite ETF stocks? Posted: 24 Jan 2018 10:27 PM PST I just got into ETF stocks and bought the following DJD, FDRR, and LVHB to start... Also considering some ROBO. What other ETFs do you feel confident about? [link] [comments] |
How do the stocks work when the company itself is bought over Posted: 25 Jan 2018 02:10 PM PST So I'm still relatively new to stocks and trading, so I'm not sure this is a pretty straight forward question. I'm more specifically regarding to the recent bought over of CanniMed Therapeutics made by Aurora Cannibis. The companies said the new deal would amount to about $43 per share based on an implied Aurora share price of $12.65 and a 3.40 exchange ratio. So does this mean that if I had 1 share of CanniMed, that I would get 3.4 shares of Aurora? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Jan 2018 11:54 AM PST Should I just jump ship on Ford? Tanking extremely hard. I believe the special ex div date is 1/29 but at this rate I'm not sure if waiting would even be worth it. Any thought on what it could stabilize at? [link] [comments] |
What do you guys make of the volatility in the market this week? Posted: 25 Jan 2018 12:03 PM PST Over the last few months we've seen some pretty smooth sailing days. Markets open flat, make record close, rinse, wash, repeat. This week, the story has been different. Some pretty significant gaps followed by decent intra day swings. Just curious what everyone thinks [link] [comments] |
Who all is holding NVDA until ER? Posted: 25 Jan 2018 11:58 AM PST I see no reason why this doesn't seem like a good idea. I'm currently holding MSFT, PYPL, and FB for earning and plan to dump them on the 1st and go in on NVDA. Looking for opinions and everyone's plans with their earnings coming up! Greatly appreciated [link] [comments] |
Should I sell AAPL to buy NVDA? Posted: 25 Jan 2018 11:27 AM PST I invested $5200.00 total in the market a month ago and as a huge fan of tech stocks so I invested a grand each in AMZN, AAPL, MSFT, FB and GOOGL. I am starting to get cold feet on AAPL and it just seems to be lagging this year, NVDA seems to be hot and I see nothing but positive news about it. I could either A. Keep AAPL and use a grand on margin to buy NVDA or sell AAPL (I would break even) and use that grand to buy NVDA [link] [comments] |
Why is this Vanguard S&P500 ETF (VUSA) not actually tracking the S&P500? Or is it? Posted: 25 Jan 2018 02:17 AM PST I've been playing around with a few ETFs to get comfortable with investing in them, and have noticed that some, despite claiming to track an index, don't actually seem to do so very closely. An example is VUSA - which appears to be a solid S&P500, entirely replicated fund - but has a very different looking chart over the past month. VUSA: http://www.hl.co.uk/shares/shares-search-results/v/vanguard-funds-plc-s-and-p-500-etf-usdgbp Can anyone ELI5? [link] [comments] |
Best healthcare stock w/o dividend for diversification? Posted: 25 Jan 2018 08:25 AM PST Hello, I am wondering if the fine folks of r/stocks could help me find the best healthcare stock within my criteria. Rather than ETFs, I prefer to buy stocks with diversification (ex. Brookfield Asset Management for real estate and infrastructure, Berkshire for their broad equity holdings, BABA for both broad China exposure and tech). Does something like this exist in healthcare? I'm currently looking at Biogen, but am not sure if there are better alternatives. Thanks in advance for any help! P.S. As a non-American, I'm trying to avoid dividends to avoid a withholding tax. individual bonds or bond fund? Posted: 25 Jan 2018 01:41 PM PST I have 90% of my assets in VFIAX, so I'm trying to put 10% in bonds. Should I put them in a bond index fund or into individual bonds? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Jan 2018 09:43 AM PST Can't find any reason why there is such a big dip over the last week. Anyone have info on this? My stop loss sold it a couple days ago. I'm wonding if I should buy back as it is nearing the $164 support price point or if it might go lower for some reason. Thx. [link] [comments] |
LatAm Internet Plays - $PAGS (the "$SQ" of Brazil) and $DESP Posted: 25 Jan 2018 01:00 PM PST Any thoughts on these? I want to play the Latin America theme this year of the Argentina/Brazil economies being earlier in their cyclical recoveries. Bought $DESP around the ipo price ($26) and think it could go up 50%. Haven't bought any $PAGS yet though I like it more than $DESP, but it came out hot after the IPO. About half the market cap of $SQ and actually profitable. Hoping for a pullback, going to watch how it trades. A bit pricey for me here at $29. Thoughts on either? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Jan 2018 12:24 PM PST PYPL 35% SHOP 22% V 15% MSFT 11% CSCO 10% BOTZ 8% I know my portfolio is tech heavy, but I encourage suggestions! I have $1500 left over to invest. I am considering MTCH, TXN, CVS, SQ, or just increasing my current positions. [link] [comments] |
What are your favorite growth dividend stocks? Posted: 25 Jan 2018 08:15 AM PST ABBV? MO? What else is out there currently or even from decades past? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Jan 2018 11:51 AM PST Bought HMNY on it'd dip and I'm not sure if I should hold short-term or long-term. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 25 Jan 2018 07:29 AM PST I got a free share of Zynga recently, but I'm wondering if I should drop it altogether or keep it long term. I personally don't think they'll be staying up. [link] [comments] |
Is their a world wide economy ETF? Posted: 25 Jan 2018 11:11 AM PST An etf that tracks the worlds economy? Where holdings are distributed around the world and not concentrated in 1 county. Preferably listed on the tsx. [link] [comments] |
Where do you see Baozun (BZUN) going? Posted: 25 Jan 2018 10:53 AM PST Chinese tech has been a major hotspot for the last year. Where do you guys see this going? Its already up 22% so far this year and im debating whether or not I should hold it and not touch it, or take some off the table. Curious to see everybody's responses [link] [comments] |
What does the weak Dollar mean for Stocks? Posted: 25 Jan 2018 12:11 AM PST The Dollar is below 90, most of my stocks have lost about $3 each. Please explain, has the bubble popped? [link] [comments] |
Thoughts on Closed-End, High Dividend Funds Posted: 25 Jan 2018 10:44 AM PST What are your thoughts on Closed-End, High Dividend Funds. These are funds like $USA, where the annual dividend hovers around ~10% while providing market gains similar to the $SPX. If you look at the last year of the bull run, both funds had similar gains within ~1/2% of each other. How are funds like $USA able to provide such high dividends while keeping track the overall market returns. Do you think these funds are suitable long-term income generating investments? ELI5: CAD/USD rate and having a US Portfolio when your Canadian. Posted: 25 Jan 2018 10:39 AM PST Hello everyone, I just recently started getting into trading stocks. I've started out with a couple only(mostly US) and a few Canadian. The positions of my US stocks have been positive for the past few days but I think the rising Canadian dollar has been offsetting those gains.. is there anything I can do against this currency problem. Thanks for all the help in advance, I'm quite new to all this. [link] [comments] |
