Longest rally in history without a 3% pullback

    Posted: 26 Jan 2018 04:29 AM PST

This is by far the longest rally in history without a 3%+ pullback.

Historically, this isn't a super bearish sign. Some of these extremes were worked off by a 4% pullback or a small correction.

    $SHOP all the way?

    Posted: 26 Jan 2018 07:39 AM PST

Can someone here comment on SHOP, it's been trending, ever since Tim Cook visited their offices in Canada. There are obviously other reasons, but it's been sharply up

Quick Story on how I got into and started investing.

    Posted: 26 Jan 2018 11:23 AM PST

Bored at work so figured I'd share a quick story with everyone!

When I was in middle school my Dad gave me a couple hundred dollars and taught me some of the basics of buying a stock. He told me I could buy any company I want and it would be a learning experience.

Being the young Playstation loving lad I was, chose Gamestop ($GME). I don't remember the exact buy price, amount of shares, or anything, but after a few years (2-3 maybe??) I remember I nearly doubled my investment AND Gamestop did a 2 for 1 split!! I was thrilled, as I was only in high school. I remember wanting to sell it for a profit but my Dad was trying to teach me about long term investing (smart smart man).

Despite that I eventually sold all my position in $GME for a decent profit, not the nearly 100% unfortunately.

Now in high school I played World of Warcraft. Being the addict I was, I wanted to invest in Activation Blizzard! Used the money I had after selling Gamestop to buy as many shares of $ATVI I could at around $11.

To this point today $ATVI is my biggest holding, cheers guys

P&G worth to invest right now?

    Posted: 26 Jan 2018 12:28 PM PST

I was thinking about investing in P&G since a while and it has currently set a new 52week low (in Euros). So do you guys think it's worth an investment (roughly 10% of my portfolio). Currently I don't have any company from this sector. (It would be a long term investment for me.)

    Long $JD

    Posted: 26 Jan 2018 06:59 AM PST

Time to load up big. Easy $60-$80 eoy. What's not to like? Automated warehouse and blow up 11.11 sales.

Market cap is still low though. P/E seems trading a bit higher than BABA.

Not to mention our beloved Tencent and Walmart have significant stakes on it.

Energy Storage: Fluence - A Siemens and AES Company

    Posted: 26 Jan 2018 05:43 AM PST

In my opinion, energy storage is often overlooked when investors are seeking out green energy investment opportunities. Solar and wind energy is great, but in order to continue the shift towards this technology, energy storage will be needed; it is not sunny and windy 24/7.

Fluence - a Siemens and AES company announced "that it will be the supplier of the world's largest lithium-ion battery-based storage project, a 100 MW/400 MWh (4-hour duration) installation that will be part of AES' Alamitos power center in Long Beach, California serving Southern California Edison and the Western Los Angeles area."

I have a small stake in AES because I realize how important green energy storage will be for our future, and it appears they are one of the few companies to take action. Let me know what you guys think.

Thoughts on buying $LMT before earnings Monday morning?

    Posted: 26 Jan 2018 12:12 PM PST

Their overall history is strong and I can imagine a company like this would benefit more from a political environment we have now... Think it will jump enough to be worth investing a little?

Selling a stock vs holding to meet 1 year mark for capital gains tax?

    Posted: 26 Jan 2018 10:32 AM PST

I bought 67 shares of bzun at $26 in August of 2017. Currently trending in $38-$40 range. Happy with my returns but unsure if I should continue to hold for at least a year for the tax benefit. Is it worth it?

    Thanks in advance everyone.

    Thoughts on $SBUX

    Posted: 26 Jan 2018 06:45 AM PST

I bought in at $57.27 a while back and was up a solid 7%. They took a hit after earnings and I'm wondering if now would be the time to buy more or sell off while I'm still up. I'm fairly inexperienced and only playing with small amounts to get a feel for how things move. I appreciate any insight.

Edit: thanks everyone for your input. I decided to sell to free up money so that I can explore and learn other stocks; however, I will be keeping an eye on SBUX to see how different scenarios play out. More so than your direct advice, it is useful to hear the thought process others go through when making decisions.

    RV Stocks

    Posted: 26 Jan 2018 11:57 AM PST

I was scanning through some of the losing stocks today and noticed the RV sector--mostly Winnebago and Thor--are down big this week. I couldn't find any definitive news. Does anyone have an idea of what's happening?

I don't have any open positions in the RV sector.

    Hold Nvda through earnings?

    Posted: 26 Jan 2018 02:27 PM PST

A month ago I bought 29 Shares of Nvda @ 187.69 now @ $243.33 so up about $1600 bucks... I think Im gonna hold it for a while, but I learned from Earnings Plays with options, even good EPS and beating estimates doesn't mean the stock will go up... If during the Report they say " Next Quarter Prob wont be as good as this one because Christmas is over... " stock could go down, so... Should I sell right before earnings report or hold fast?

Is investing using margin really any riskier than taking out a business loan or a loan to buy and flip a house?

    Posted: 26 Jan 2018 07:26 AM PST

So here is my situation, long story short i used my 5 grand to invest in stocks (up about 5%, just started a month ago), now i just have margin of 5 grand if I want to buy more.

I am NOT a swing or day trader, of COURSE I realize using margin to day or swing trade is incredibly risky and a huge gamble.

I'm talking about using SOME of my margin balance to buy and hold long term good, solid growth companies like NVDA for example.

My brokerage has a 9.75% margin rate currently, so obviously I realize I would have to earn 15 or 20% to make it worth it.

The way I see it, aslong as you use it wisely to invest long term in good companies, I don't see how it's any more riskier than taking out a business loan to start a business or to buy and flip real estate.

    Thoughts?
