    a serious WSJ warning today

    Posted: 28 Jan 2018 04:21 PM PST

An article was released in the WSJ how after missing out on the 9 year bull market, individual investors are finally pouring into the stock market.

This is often a sign of a market top. It's happens with the stock market before, the real estate market, the precious metal market and others.

Most markets are at all time highs and now retail investors have decided that they now want in. It's proven by the stats of E*TRADE, AmTd, Schwab and others.

I've been in the market for over 20 years. Retail almost always gets into it at the end of the hype.

If you read this, I urge folks to just be cautious with their investing. I'm not predicting a market crash or other sell off event at this time. However, if one were to happen it almost always occurs when the last people jump in, markets at the highs, etc.

The WSJ has given fair warning to all. Be careful everyone.

Capcom has gone up 47% since Sept 22

    Posted: 29 Jan 2018 08:25 AM PST

I normally don't poke around stock stuff.

But on September 22, 2017, Capcom showed off Monster Hunter World at the Tokyo Game Show.

It was instantly met with praise. Between then and the game's launch on January 26, 2018, their stocks went up 41%

Between the game's launch and today (January 29, 2018), their stocks went up by another 6%

Monster Hunter (previously only overly popular in japan) was aggressively targeted towards the western audience with Monster Hunter World.

The game was met with extremely positive reviews. On top of Capcom promising free content updates and no microtransactions.

With 5 million copies shipped in 3 days. (including digital sales)

It's hitting like a freight train.

With the game scheduled to be brought to the PC later this year. It might be something to look at.

Just thought this subreddit would like to know.

    AAPL, TXN, FIT

    Posted: 29 Jan 2018 07:51 AM PST

AAPL - Down 6% on the week, 2% monthly, evenish 3 month... bottom of this dip near or after earnings?

TXN - Down 7% weekly, dividend payment in two weeks

FIT - Likely to reach it's all-time low today or later in the week. Is it ever a buy and hope for company buyout? Or just watch it die?

    Opinions?

AMD always seems to crash after earnings. However, they've had a ton of demand these past few quarters. Do you guys plan on selling/holding/shorting?

Why has AAPL been in a free fall for the last week?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2018 06:45 AM PST

Why has AAPL been in a free fall for the last week? Losing about 2% per business day. Haven't seen anything in the news to suggest why.

Do you use apps, and what kind?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2018 04:51 AM PST

I'm wondering what kind of apps are out there for following your stocks. I'm using Yahoo Finance which I really enjoy. I was also wondering if anyone knows of an app that will help you calculate matrics like p/e p/b and peg ratio. So I can save time off calculating this stuff myself.

    Sold all my SHOP today

    Posted: 29 Jan 2018 07:50 AM PST

Hey guys. Just wanted to share this with you guys, definitely not an expert, just trying to get by. I had a good amount of SHOP, got in after the Citron dip (I made a bit from selling SHOP before that as well). I think there'll be a good chance of dipping before or after earnings. Since everyone and their moms have been asking about SHOP, and a lot of new investors have been coming to this sub and looking to start investing small amounts money, I'm guessing a lot of new investors are putting their money in (into SHOP especially). I think that if a dip happens (before/after earnings, either from profit taking or some sort of bad results), the price will go down extra hard from newer investors panic selling.

And plus I got a good amount of return, even if it doesn't dip, I'll lock in some profit and get the chance to redistribute or hold a bit more cash for later. That's my rational, could very well be wrong, what do you guys think?

    Taxes on ETF Capital Gains

    Posted: 29 Jan 2018 11:22 AM PST

If you buy ETF shares over time, how are year end capital gains and/ or dividend distributions taxed if you have held some but not all ETF shares >1 year? Should both dividend and capital gains distributions be a weighted average of the % total you have held > vs < 1 year?

I also read that taxes on capital gains distributions for ETFs are delayed until you sell though I'd like to confirm if this is correct for distributions or if it only pertains to capitals gains/ losses from selling the etf itself.

For dividends, Are they taxed as short term for portions I held <60 days prior to the dividend date? "For an ETF dividend to be taxed as qualified, the equity in the fund paying the dividend must be owned by the investor for more than 60 days during the 121-day period that begins 60 days before the ex-dividend date."

I'm not sure if i'm overthinking this or not but ETF taxes based on my currency understanding for somebody that dollar cost averages could get messy.

Note: I hold both Canadian and US ETFs.

    Good time to buy PCG

    Posted: 29 Jan 2018 10:18 AM PST

I am currently researching Pacific Gas and Electric Company and they seem to have decent financials as a long term company, as well as beating their EPS estimates this past year. The recent California forest fires have decimated the stock as of late though, and I'm wondering if this is a falling knife situation, or one that is a great buying opportunity.

I'd love to hear your thoughts!

    Dump Van guard VCN? ETF?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2018 01:58 PM PST

I bought back when it was at 32.43 but now it's crashing hard, just closed at 32.60 and I'm really tempted to dump it at opening tomorrow to prevent a loss, I've got like 15K in there.

I'm only 28, no debt and looking to make some quicker cash. Everyone on personal finance praises ETF's but they never seem to gain momentum, they get a little higher then always come back down. Would I be better cutting and running at break even/minor profit and putting that all into say...Visa?

What is the best & worst FAANG stock for the Earnings Announcement?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2018 11:28 AM PST

Anything a FAANG holder needs to worry about that would warrant a shuffle? This is my first announcement with a meaningful amount of cash invested so I'm nervous and excited but trying to prepare properly so that I don't bloody the sheets.

    Paypal's competitors

    Posted: 29 Jan 2018 07:38 AM PST

I'm long PayPal and am very excited for this earnings report as I think it will do well.

I was just wondering what you think of Venmo losing potential market share and customers to "Zelle". It's seems to have a large advantage over Venmo just based off it's supporters. It also doesn't make sense to me as to why Venmo would be entering the merchant side (i.e being accepted at stores) as PayPal already dominates that space. It's reported that there's around 100,000 new customers signing up on Zelle a day, it processes around $75 billion which is more than double Venmo and there's around 60 finical institutions behind it.

    What do you guys think?

    Time to invest in GE?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2018 11:01 AM PST

I thought $21 was a good time to buy then $18 but now that it's hit $15 I am seriously interested in getting in. I mean how much lower can it ever go. GE has been around for decades so I really can't see it getting crippled for much longer. Thoughts?

Can someone explain to me what's happening with OLED - is it just over valued?

    Posted: 29 Jan 2018 10:48 AM PST

My dad bought OLED mid 2017 and raved about its performance. On his recommendation I bought in when it finally started to dip back down last week, but given it keeps falling, I'm concerned that this is because it was overvalued. Anyone have advice? Think it will pass $200 per share again?
