People who have published an app, what is something you wish you had known or done early on to be succesful?

    Hi everyone,

My partner and I are preparing to publish an app by the end of the month. Its kinda like a social network. We are really excited and been working hard on it for a while. That being said, we are nervous about it as well, what if noone uses it, which is our ultimate fear. We feel our product is pretty in demand and thing it will be well built.. but you never really know...

People who have launched an app, or something similar.. what is something you had done or wish you had known? Basically we are just asking for advice, and just want to pick the brains of the expierenced people. Wether its a logistics thing, a philosphy thing.. anything. Would love to hear stories of peoples expierences as well! Thanks so much!

How to get 2000 email leads in 10 days with 100$?

    Posted: 07 Jan 2018 08:03 AM PST

    Hi starters,

I'm running a startup about mobile app and I'm struggling getting email list for my app.

I've done many strategies such as: raise a giveaway campaign, make landing page for sign up, submit our startup to beta testing sites, active in social channels. But the email list is not enough.

Is there any different strategy? Does anyone have the experience on growing email leads and it works? It's ok if the strategy has too pay up to 100$. Please give my advice because I have no experience on it.

    Thank you in advance.

Is there a way to use the bad reviews left on your competitors fb page ?

    Posted: 08 Jan 2018 12:44 AM PST

We are a digital payments startup from india. I see that one of my competitors (a very big company) has a lot of 1star reviews on their fb page. Is there a way i could use them for my benefit.

Can i show them on my fb page / website ?

Can i run a poll to my audience asking them if they had a similar experience (and showing those bad reviews to them)

Can i comment on those bad reviews as my page and tell them about my service?

Any small way to capitalize on these will be useful as long as i don't violate any facebook terms

    Thanks

How to Handle Deposits on Future Service?

    Posted: 07 Jan 2018 08:30 PM PST

I'm working on a service product that targets High Net Worth Individuals. It will take a couple of years to get operational, but there are limited customer slots available and we'd like to get some early traction - deposits on future services would go a long way on the funding front.

The question is: Do we put all the deposits in escrow and make them refundable? we're talking about $100K deposits and only about 500 slots.

Some have recommended making the deposits non-refundable, but I'm not sure about that.

    Any thoughts?

Setting up a gaming related online startup that is similar to Fiverr. What do I need to do in order to be legally approved in order to both send and receive payments? [UK]

    Posted: 07 Jan 2018 09:07 AM PST

About a month ago I started working on a website to connect gamer to coaches, specifically in the world of eSports. The beta interest is starting to get a good amount of traction and even some medium sized Youtubers involved. It's built on Wordpress and Magento so the build of it will be safe and secure, although it will be using Paypal to take initial orders.

My question is: What do I need to do in order to legally receive and send payments? I would assume that I would need to set this up as a company? Do I need to have legal terms that coaches would have to sign up to in order to receive payments?

For context I'm based in the UK, 26 yrs old and have a full time job in a web agency.

College sophomore looking for help with startup!

    Posted: 07 Jan 2018 12:48 PM PST

Hey /r/startups, I have an idea and I'm not sure how to bring that idea to life in the most efficient way. I'm currently a sophomore college student in a fraternity at a big state school. The dues for half of the fraternities at my school are over 10k a year and a lot of this money goes to parties and the alcohol for these parties. The majority of the alcohol consumed is vodka and currently every fraternity and organization is paying $14+ for bottom of the shelf potato vodka. I want to start my own vodka brand to replace these shitty plactic bottles of popov and taaka. From what I see I have two options. *Buy bottles off of a wholesale website, make my own labels, and find a local distillery that will fill the bottles. By doing this I would go around getting all the necessary documentation but I would be saving money until I can afford to have these documents done. The lack of documentation would not effect wether or not the fraternities would buy these bottles of vodka, but a concern I have is wether or not I would be able to find a distillery that would fill the bottles without proper paperwork. *Try to raise enough money to have everything done properly using a contract bottling company. From what I understand the contract bottling company would file all the legal documents from the paperwork for the label to the paperwork for the vodka itself. The problem I see with this plan is that the people I am contacting to invest in my product would like to see results and after contacting companies I am seeing that it would cost no less than $15k for the smallest possible order (including paperwork). Another thing I have going for this idea is that one of the alumni of my chapter is the creator of one of the largest vodka companies in the U.S. and is constantly at the house for events, my plan is to talk to him and see what he thinks. Is my idea to start a vodka brand completely crazy or is it doable?

How to structure LLC's and DBA's to maintain anonymity/legal protection?

    Posted: 07 Jan 2018 01:58 PM PST

I'd like to start a small business where I buy and sell land. I plan to buy the land from private sellers then turn around and sell them to other entities, either business or private individuals.

I need to make sure my buying arm is totally separated from the selling arm to make sure none of the land owners have any idea what I am planning to do with the land once I have bought it.

While I don't think I'll be needing to be worried about getting sued constantly, I know I should have at the very least an LLC in place to protect myself. However, I have read that DBA's can be sued as if they were sole proprietor entities. I've also heard that places like Wyoming have built in LLC protections. I am located in Minnesota.
The question is, do I keep everything in Minnesota to keep it simple? Or perhaps make 1 LLC in WY and have it "own" a separate LLC in MN?

Any reason to NOT do a WY LLC, such as foreign business fees or whatever it's called when you file out of state?
    Thanks!
