Negotiate Offer from Uniters? (the furniture coverage company) Posted: 25 Jan 2018 03:44 AM PST So I don't know if anyone here knows about this, as this isn't typical insurance, but I figured I would ask... We bought a sofa and loveseat set and got the damage coverage because we have two small destructive children. They have recliners built into them, and the spot where the arm meets the back (like where your elbow is) ripped apart. Called Uniters, they sent a tech out, tech said they would order a new arm. About 6 months later, they send me an offer to either give me $300 or replace the sofa through the store I bought it from, as they can't get a replacement arm. Well, the store I bought it from doesn't carry that line anymore. But if I take the $300, there is no more damage coverage on the sofa. I read the fine print and they say that if you take a cash settlement, all the coverage on that item (not just the damaged part) is now null and void. Anyone know if they negotiate? Was either thinking of asking to still have coverage on the rest of the sofa or to increase the cash value, as if a tiny human does take a scissors to it, that will cost money, and that's why I bought the coverage in the first place! I tried calling them once but was on hold for a while and wasn't able to wait it out, so I figured I would ask here before calling again. [link] [comments] |

Insurance Claims Adjuster Trainee Posted: 24 Jan 2018 03:20 PM PST I have an interview coming up with Progressive to be an Insurances Claims Adjuster Trainee. I've read a lot about what to look for, and to focus on the STAR method of interviewing. I was wondering if there's any other additional advice that can be given, or if there's any specific questions that I should prepare myself for. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Jan 2018 04:22 PM PST I have a bit of a two Part question. About where to get insurance and what's covered: What are the best insurers providing small business insurance for an e-commerce company? I've had troubles getting a quote, every time I try the big companies (The Hartford was one I tried) I'm rejected as soon as I state the business is e-commerce. Any suggestions? As a followup, I've had some legal trouble lately with a cease and desist for trademark/copyright infringement. I hired some lawyers and the infringement claims turned out to be pretty weak, we reached an amicable agreement to add some statements to my website to further show that I'm different from this other company. My question is (1) would this legal expense have been covered if I had insurance? (2) Do I need to disclose this to the insurer and will I be unable to get coverage because of this? (3) Will I be covered if this company brings another claim or is this like a "pre existing" condition that's not covered? Any help is appreciated! Thanks! [link] [comments] |
[CA] Protecting higher value vehicles from UM DV losses. Posted: 24 Jan 2018 01:33 PM PST How do folks who own high value vehicles manage the risks presented by the 15% of uninsured drivers in California? If the vehicle is totaled GAP insurance can mitigate some of the risk, but what if the vehicle is not totaled? I have spoken to three insurers and all three have told me there is no way to recover DV from an uninsured motorist incident except by taking the other driver to court, and being uninsured motorists it is a foregone conclusion that they have no money. Do folks driving Bentleys and Ferraris just accept this risk? Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |
How do I handle a taxed gift from employer on an home insurance contents claim? Posted: 24 Jan 2018 03:39 PM PST The company I work for gave me a taxable gift that was not used for work. I did pay taxes on it, but did not pay anywhere near the value of the item. This is done as a sort of bonus from time to time in my company. I doubt I can get someone to talk to the insurance agent in a reasonable time frame nor do I have a receipt or contact. I do have proof of ownership in the form the box/manuals and serial numbers. When I filed the claim, I explained slightly but think I might have confused them when I told them the value on the product/original cost but forgot to mention it was a taxable gift so I didn't necessarily pay that cost (I was pretty cloudy in the conversation after just having a major burglary in my home and almost losing pets, I spent a lot of time making sure she knew I really wasn't sure of the values and ages off the top of my head). Anyone have any advice as best to approach this on the content spreadsheet or with the agent? I was surprised to see all the information she asked me WASN'T in the sheet she sent me, so I feel very nervous that somehow something I said by accident might be used against me. This is my first time ever submitting a claim so its all new uncharted territory for me. [link] [comments] |
Homeowners and Auto Help Please Posted: 24 Jan 2018 07:07 PM PST My wife and I are in the middle of a 30 day close on our first home and are learning all about the different parts of homeowners insurance. We were given three options for liability (100k, 300k, and 500k). We almost never have anybody over to our home and would only hire licensed and bonded workers to do anything on the property. Is 300k enough? That's what we are leaning towards to try and save a little bit. They also mentioned ordinance or law coverage. One agent explained it to me as if half the house burns down and the other half isn't damaged in any way but the county requires the entire house to be rebuilt, then only the damaged portion is covered. However, with Ordinance and law coverage that would kick in for the other part of the home. One agent stated I would be fine with 10% coverage and another agent said they would feel wrong suggesting anything other than 100%. Any input? Feel like 100% should be obvious, but who knows, I'm new to this. Since we have never owned a home or really had any assets we have always had pretty low liability on our cars. We drive an 2005 Escape and a 2013 Focus. We have full coverage on both with a $100 comp and $250 collision deductable. Our liability is at 50k/100k. We pay $1,818/year for our cars in Phoenix AZ (Much higher than when we lived in Washington). Our insurance agent said that to go to 100k/300k it would be about $140 more a year and to go to $250k/500k it would be about $200 more a year. Anyways, I just wanted to reach out to all of you on here to get your input before just taking an insurance agent's word for it. Any advice or input you may have would be greatly appreciated! A year later my wife got a check for recoverable depreciation made out to us...what do we do now? Posted: 24 Jan 2018 02:48 PM PST Before we got married my wife's house sustained Hail Damage. She had it repaired and filed a claim. Everything as far as we know was sorted out. A year later we get a check from the insurance company made out to us and a seperate check made out to us and the mortgage company. The roofer texted my wife saying he needed that money and would send someone over to get it...again..the check is not made out to him. We depositied the check because any payment made out to him would need to either be sent by the insurance company or a check from us.... My question is...don't we need something more than a TEXT MESSAGE from the roofer to show what he is owed if anything? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Jan 2018 06:25 PM PST Hello! Photos of their car after accident: https://imgur.com/a/g0Bmj?s=sms I was involved in a minor car accident when I rear ended another vehicle. We checked their bumper and it seemed okay except for maybe this black faint paint chip/scratch. I can't even honestly say that wasn't there from before because it was so minor. No cops were called. Either way, we switched insurance and I asked if they wanted to do this without going to insurance. They wanted 500$ cash (which is also the price of their deductible if they choose to open a case) to resolve the accident without a claim. I thought 500$ is a too much for something like this. We didn't agree on a price so we both drove off and they said they will contact me after thinking more about it. They have contacted me again asking for $400 and we wont go to insurance. Can you guys take a look at the pictures and give me advice? I still think $400 is high but I'm no estimator. I don't think they really want to go to insurance because that's $500 gone (and maybe a monthly increase?) from them for a minor incident that is , in my opinion, not so noticeable. However, I am at fault and it's my responsible to resolve this situation without screwing them over (even though I personally feel they are trying to make a quick buck off me being a student.) I don't think a new bumper will be necessary. I can see a small paint job for the area or maybe it can be buffed out? Please help me out! Thank you! [link] [comments] |
General insurance exam - Canada Posted: 24 Jan 2018 02:22 PM PST Living in BC specifically. Will have the opportunity to take a 5 day "crash course" starting on the 29th. I also have the general insurance textbook to study from (picked it up Monday). Final exam is on the 5th. Home insurance claim process after 3rd party estimate? Posted: 24 Jan 2018 09:13 AM PST Hi. I have water damage in my house and have submitted a claim to my insurance company. They sent out someone from a 3rd party contracting service, who then created and submitted an estimate for the work to be completed and said they will have a project manager contact me for a walk through. I want to go with local contractors I have had work on my house in the past. What would the process be? My insurance agent said they made a check out to the 3rd party contact company/mortgage lender and myself and sent it to the contracting company. When I asked if I need to send in bids from my local contractors the insurance adjuser said "Only if they differ from what was allowed by the 3rd party contracting company". So once I get bids from my local contractors, providing they come in lower than the estimated amount, what do I do? Contact that 3rd party contracting service? My adjuster? Let the contractors work with insruance? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Jan 2018 05:33 PM PST I put my two weeks notice in a week and a half ago. My employer has 14 people, but I read that in Nebraska they extended COBRA for business with under 20 employees. I was working with HR to get my COBRA lined up, but today less than a week before I lose coverage the HR person came back and said they would not cover me under COBRA because I left voluntarily. I read that COBRA covers both voluntary and involuntary loss of jobs. Am I wrong? What do I need to do next? I make too much money for marketplace coverage, it would cost over $2500/mo for less coverage. [link] [comments] |

Trouble getting reimburse from Edison after a power surge Posted: 24 Jan 2018 04:48 PM PST Hi All, Seeking advice regarding getting reimbursed from Edison after a power surge fried some devices in my house. The cost to replace everything that was destroyed is near $800. I spoke with their claims guy today, and on top of being a giant asshole he also offered me way below value of my stuff that was destroyed, even though some of this stuff was only a few months old and I had to go buy new stuff to replace it. He told me to hire a repairman to get a quote to fix the broken stuff (most of which I've disposed of now, because I don't have space to keep it around) and submit the estimate to him and he would decide if they're going to pay to repair it or replace it, whichever is less. Or I could accept the pittance he was offering me now. He wouldn't put the offer in writing, which made it seem even more sleazy. Any advice on what I should do? I really need to get reimbursed for the stuff I had to replace, and I don't want to accept this scumbag's low ball offer. [link] [comments] |
T-boned by a red light runner. How do I get made whole here? Posted: 24 Jan 2018 08:14 AM PST Red light runner T-boned me in an intersection. Totally other driver's fault. Admit's fault to the cops, its all in the crash report as well. My car is very likely a total loss, estimated repairs are going to be 10 grand. I've only had the car for three weeks. So what happens now exactly. Will I get enough to pay off the loan on the car and then be SOL? Does the other drivers insurance pay off the loan, and give me anything for being out of a new car? Never had any kind of accident before and I'm freaking out. [link] [comments] |
Going through IFV treatment had a few issues with insurance not sure how to go about fixing them. Posted: 24 Jan 2018 02:59 PM PST My wife and I are going through IFV treatment the doctor checked our medicine through our medical insurance and not our prescription card(CVS). He told us it wasn't covered and we had to start the medicine that day so I called insurance the next day to at least see what was covered. It turns out it was covered but had to be through CVS. For medicine going forward they switched but why didn't they know to go through CVS wouldn't my medical benefits have pointed them to that? Anyway my main problem is that CVS told me that there was a way to get this covered under my deductible. I am in the process of filling out the paperwork but I just noticed on the receipt given to us from the pharmacy it has "Not reimbursable through third party insurance claim purchased through Manufacturer discount". Does this mean what I think it does that my insurance company can't reimburse or apply this towards my deductible because of the discount we went through? I have insurance from my job, which is a huge tech company. [link] [comments] |
Question about comparable cars used to determine value Posted: 24 Jan 2018 01:45 PM PST I have recently totaled my car in an at fault loss of control accident. My insurer used 3 vehicles to determine the payout. (about $3790 - I paid 5300 for the vehicle.) I noticed that each one of them was over 300 miles away from me in a different state. Could I use this information to possibly get a little more money back for my car? Thanks Edit: I should add that it's a 2003 Mazda protege with 38000 miles. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Jan 2018 05:43 AM PST So the title (hopefully) says it all. TL;DR - Was in a hit and run in December. Got the full tags and ID'd the driver within 30 minutes for the police, but offending vehicle's insurance is refusing to pay claiming the owner (not at the scene) says the vehicle was not even in an accident. Looking to figure out what mountain we need to climb in order to get their insurance to cough up for the repairs? Additional details:
Not looking to get a payday from insurance, just get the car fixed, and get what small feeling of vindication there is from that. Any recommendations on how far this needs to go or what information is likely needed to help push their insurance company to make good on the claim? Edits:

[GA] UHC employer insurance, leaving job. Posted: 24 Jan 2018 11:11 AM PST I'll try to keep this as concise as possible. My boyfriend has United Health Care through his employer, and coverage will end on Thursday his last day. However his daughter had the insurance approve a 30 day inpatient stay for treatment earlier this week. Will the insurance still pay after approving or will the coverage stop? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Jan 2018 09:40 AM PST I currently drive a 2009 Toyota 4runner and I pay X amount for insurance. I was looking into get a CPO 2017 Subaru Imperza Sport and it was gonna raise my insurance by like $500. Question is that I really need a new ride soon so what year of a car should I look at to bring down costs? Is 2016 still too new? Do I have to go as low at 2010? I don't mind paying a bit more for insurance but considering that I was gonna have to also have a car payment, it got out of hand fast. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
