Posted: 10 Jan 2018 02:53 PM PST This year i plan on doing some freelance work as a software developer. I may or may not get any clients. I will invest time and effort attempting to win contracts but i might not get any clients. Even without any clients and revenue, can i register a small business that provides "IT consultant services", and then write off certain expenses on taxes, associated with running a small business? Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Can one LLC carry insurance for 'sub-companies'? Industries differ slightly. Posted: 10 Jan 2018 02:21 PM PST I have a LLC for a web design/internet marketing company. In our line of work we do a lot of photography and print/offline marketing. We are looking to create two other 'sub-businesses'. We want all checks/payments to go through the existing LLC - web/marketing company. 1st 'Side Business' for 'Real Estate Photography' (we get a lot of business by referrals). This would entail taking pictures for real estate agents/brokers. 2nd 'Side Business' for 'Commercial Real Estate Marketing' - which is also site visits and picture taking, but also sign hanging (these signs are electric/light up). We would be launching two websites for these sub-companies, but I want them to be under the 'umbrella' of the main company. My goal is to simplify things by having all checks/payments/insurance costs go through the main company. For example: If you are a car mechanic, you probably have all invoices paid to one company. I just envision being a car mechanic who has a 'Oil Change division' and 'Car Detailing division' which get marketed separately from the main company, but all payments go through the main car mechanic company. Please let me know if it is as simple as I think. Thank you in advance for any time and expertise in response. [link] [comments] |
How does owning a business help your credit and finances? Posted: 10 Jan 2018 10:39 AM PST What are the financial benefits to owning a business besides the money? Ie . Taxes , credit score, other perks. [link] [comments] |
Requesting help: 900 cold emails and no sign-up Posted: 11 Jan 2018 12:32 AM PST Hey fellow founders! 1 month ago I founded a software startup which does online review management. Basically it helps other small business (barber, hairdresser,...) to get more positive reviews on Yelp, FB, Google. The idea is: 1) Upon leaving your shop the customer gets a business card containing a phone number 2) The customer texts this phone number to receive a discount code and whether or not they received a good service. 3) If they had a good experience they receive a link to leave a review on a desired website (Yelp, Google, Facebook). If they had a bad experience they receive a link to leave private feedback that only your business can see. I have set up a website for my startup where potential users can register for a 30-day trial. I promoted it here on Reddit and on several FB groups. In the last weeks I have sent nearly 900 cold emails to barbers and hair salons in the US. Usually the mail looks something like this: A better way to get you more customers! Hi, Have you seen the bad reviews on your Yelp account? I can help you to get more positive reviews and thus more customers. You can find more information about it here: www.reviewshift.com Feel free to reach out if you're interested in starting a free trial to get you more positive reviews. Regards, Jay Till today I 130 all-time views on my website and zero sign-ups. Nobody answered any email. Do you have any tips? I am open for everything, you can also send me PMs. [link] [comments] |
Transportation broker owns a large transport company....gives business to themself? Posted: 10 Jan 2018 08:36 AM PST Confused about how this works/how its legal and not a major conflict of interest. If you are a medicaid patient who needs to get to a doctor appointment, your case is put through a transportation broker to ''ease the burden on medicaid''. The transportation broker is supposed to divvy out transports. What confuses me, is that the transportation broker also has a transport division, so who do you think he's giving transports to? How the heck would I ever get business from them? TLDR: The guy supposed to be in charge of coordinating transport owns a transport company. [link] [comments] |

For businesses that took a bay in a brand new shopping center, how much was your build outs? Posted: 10 Jan 2018 08:12 AM PST I am setting up a business in a shopping center that was recently built. According to the owner he will do a basic build out and I am responsible for the rest. I have to install the electrical, plumbing and cosmetics. Basically I am getting drywall, air conditioning and a concrete floor. Right now there is nothing there in the bay. 800 sq ft. How much should I be estimating this to cost? It is just going to be a big office with a bathroom. [link] [comments] |

Seriously considering starting an automotive themed clothing company, need help with names. Posted: 10 Jan 2018 03:32 PM PST I've always been interested in the idea of owning my own business - and now that I have the additional income to support me in my adventure starting it. I've been tossing the idea around about a tshirt / apparel business that's automotive aimed. There's a few out there already, but one area I'm noticing that is seriously lacking for them are big & tall apparel. Most of these clothing companies stop their production at 2XL - some MAYBE run very limited supplies on 3XL. I'm aiming to go for that part of the market, while also producing a focus on female apparel that as my girlfriend would say "Sounds whoreish, or is too male orientated." I'm focusing on eCommerce and in person sales (I myself do atleast one to two car shows a weekend - maybe 6 a month, setting up a booth/back of the car display). Keep the overhead low, We've come up to 3 names, and each has it's ups and down - looking for some input on them.
Any help would be appreciated! [link] [comments] |
Creatively financing small business acquisition Posted: 10 Jan 2018 08:11 PM PST I work at a small retail chain. The owner (a good friend) is at retirement age and is beginning to look at selling the business. I know the business could support 100% financing but have no collateral. What are some creative ways I could get financing in order to buy the business? [link] [comments] |

quick question about llc shares and selling Posted: 10 Jan 2018 08:44 AM PST I've tried googling this to no avail. I have an llc, taxed as an scorp(if that matters in this case). I'm selling it to 2 individual, who are each paying 50% of the price. I have 5 shares, so each is worth 20%. Can I put both names on the shares when I transfer, or can only one be named as the recipient? If the latter, do they just issue more shares to even it out? thanks! [link] [comments] |

Greeting Cards Side Gig - What Printer and Card Stock to Use? Posted: 10 Jan 2018 01:12 PM PST I'm thinking of starting a side business in the greeting card niche. I'd be designing, printing, and shipping the cards myself. Does anybody else do this and what kind of equipment are you using? Inkjet printers seem to vary greatly in price and print quality. Any thoughts on printers and/or card stock are welcome! [link] [comments] |
In my opinion, this are the fundamental components I need for a successful brand. What do you think? Posted: 10 Jan 2018 07:49 AM PST Planning and Preparation Planning is crucial – it gives you the ability to capitalize when an opportunity presents itself. If you are not ready for the opportunity, your brand generally won't reach its maximum potential. Assessment and Monitoring To prepare for and find new opportunities, assess your company's strengths and areas for improvement with quarterly or annual surveys with your employees and customers. These recurring surveys will help you measure if impressions are changing over time. You can also conduct an audit of social and news media mentions keeping track of how and where your company is being talked about. For even more insight into what matters to your customers, consider monitoring for mentions of your competitors, too. Methods for Addressing Feedback Be open and receptive to customer feedback and concerns. Manage negative interactions if they occur. You can't hide from your issues, so don't ignore them. Complaints give you a chance to fix your brand – otherwise, it suffers in silence. Acknowledge issues, and fix what you can. Consistency and Commitment Consistency in tone, messaging, design and delivery are important as well. Good brands do what they say and deliver on their promises. The level of consistency you offer to your customers can help build trust and strengthen relationships. [link] [comments] |
Advice requested - Employees eating lunch at desks Posted: 10 Jan 2018 11:05 AM PST Hey guys, I've got a team of 10+ and a recent trend has started at the office. Instead of sitting and having lunch at a common space, people have started eating at their desks while "working". I've got an issue with this because a. it's distracting for people to eat while others our working because people naturally chat during that time and b. I don't think we should bill clients for time when people are eating. Has anyone had this situation and dealt with it? Thanks in advance for your advice. [link] [comments] |
