Where did you get your loans refinanced at and did it go well?

I'm really curious to see who went with what to refinance their loans. I hear some people say not to go to SoFi, and others say they had a great experience with them. I'm really skeptical about StudentLoanHero.com because it seems they REALLY want you to refinance your loans.

So what's your experience with refinancing loans. Did you graduate? Would you recommend these banks/lenders to anybody else? What is something people should know about these groups?

There is legislation out there proposing the end of the loan forgiveness program. How would this impact those of us working towards forgiveness?

I started my repayments this year, so it's far off to begin with. But this new tax plan and other legislation has me feeling hopeless about paying off my student loans. Would I be grandfathered into the current program?

    Borrower Defense Question

    Posted: 03 Dec 2017 10:46 AM PST

Hi, all! Info in this sub has been super helpful. Hoping for an answer to this question. My husband attended ITT. We were waiting for the court decision to be finalized, but with borrower defense possibly on the chopping block, decided to apply separately for it. We applied on 11/21 online. I called the hotline on 11/28 to check status, and was told nothing had posted. They asked if we had received a confirmation email or confirmation number when we submitted the application online, and I don't remember seeing one. No confirmation email was received either.

My question is, do we resubmit a paper application? I know it can take up to 90 days to process the application, especially with the numbers they are getting now. I am just worried that we didn't get any confirmation of receipt....if it is cut and we don't have it in, we won't have a shot, right?

Also, does anyone have advice for private loans and dealing with borrower defense?

    Thanks in advance!!!

Is my estimated monthly payment going to go up or stay the same?

    Posted: 03 Dec 2017 03:41 PM PST

Right now I have a loan, at 10.750%, at $32,306.14 with a max repayment term of 15 years (180 months.) The calculated monthly payments, according to Sallie Mae, will be $376. Now for some reason my school never sent Sallie Mae a letter stating I'm no longer in school so the website says my payments won't start until June 2018, versus what should be starting next month. Now I'm hoping that what will happen is that date stays the same and that will give me more time to build up a savings and I could potentially put all the money that would go towards my loan payments to a specific loan and snowball them (I have many other student loans.) My question is, is that $376 based on what I would be paying now or what I'm expected to be paying starting in June next year after another 7 months of accumulated interest? FinAid.com says that it's currently calculated out to be $362 a month, so I'm assuming it'll increase by $14 next year? Or is it just $362 right now and it will rise come June?
